This right here. I shouldn't have even posted but I do feel like we need to be honest with each other. Yes I have yo-yo'd and all the things with increasingly more weight gained. Yadda yadda yadda. But surgery is a very traumatic experience.
  4. I think we went with the lap band as I’m just over BMI 30s, thin legs and arms but hold all my weight in the middle with fatty liver and diabetes so as I only have like 60-65lbs to lose lap band seemed good option.
  5. Wow, wow, wow! I have noticed changes in my gait as well as foot dropping. It has intensified over the last weeks. I am seeing a chiropractor and it is helping. He is also having me work on stretching my hips. But this is exactly it. And yes, I've been crossing my legs too much. I am now really working on not doing it. Although I don't fit the definition of really skinny as I encountered in the articles I read, I have lost a disproportionate amount of weight from my legs since surgery which may have impacted the fat pocket that @MandoGetsSleevedreferred to.

    Sick all the time

Well I know something has to be wrong! Thank you. don't get me wrong the weight loss is awesome but not if I can't leave my house because I'm so sick. That is not living. 🤗

    Weight Training Options

I use hand weights and Velcro leg cuffs. I also have a weighted vest hoola hoop and I use a yoga bolster to get full range of motion. I also have a couple of large stretch bands to work inner muscles, and indoor bike. The bike was the big investment but worth every penny of stress release it provides! I go to an in person yoga class that helps with core/balance and it costs more than going to the gym. I think you will get value in whatever you choose as long as you use it. You are worth it.
  8. Has anyone tried the Tonal system for workouts at home? My husband wants to get one that both of us can use, to build more fat-burning muscle. Any feedback? TIA!

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

How do you stop losing weight? I still have about 20 pounds to go for my goal. But was wondering what happens after that?
  10. I went vegan - raw vegan - this year and lost a great amount of weight but wanted to be as full of vitamins and nutrition as possible before surgery. I think I might get some spinach and berries and do a green smoothie. My labs look great - just saw my endocrinologist Monday. My BS is 112 - I was awitched off all my meds to just metformjn and sugars have gone up but very slightly. She said my body is responding so well to the liquid diet that she is stopping all meds before surgery and doesn’t think I’ll need them again after that. I follow up January 10th with her. I tried vegi broth and chicken broth which was terrible. Finally got some low sodium v8 juice that should help. 14 day count down to surgery now! I’ve made it this far I’ve got this!!! 😀
  11. You look amazing!!! And I think you look great at your weight! Great job and thank you for sharing!!! I’m having the sleeve didn’t even know if the mini until joining this forum.

    Baristatic App?

Baritastic does not have a paywall. What you see is what you get. I was a long time MFP user and made the switch because Baritastic is linked to my surgeon's office. They can review my food journals, weight, measurements, etc. Makes getting feedback/answering questions very easy. That aside, I think its just about on par with the free version of MFP. You can set individual macro goals, create meals, input recipes, etc. There are far fewer ads, which I appreciate, though I do think the food info database is slightly less comprehensive. But even still, I've been able to find suitable entries for nearly all foods, having had to submit manually only once or twice. I like that it is a "one stop shop" for weight loss stuff; I don't have to keep other apps for measurements, vitamins, etc. Its tailored well for WLS patients, and has less of the junk that MFP has that I never used anyway.
  14. At the end of the day its your choice, i didnt tell anyone because i didnt want negativity to make me change my mind, when i got to the hospital i was scared and basically changed my mind. The nurses and surgeon treated it as pre op nerves. I wish i didnt do it. I am 5 months out still tired, feel unwell most days struggle with what to eat most days but i have lost weight although that has stalled already. I also find myself slipping back into my old habits....so for me I should have tried good old fashion diet because the habits that got me fat arent going to be stopped by the sleeve. Sorry i know you wanted positive encouragement but i think its important to know all possible outcomes. At the end of the day its your choice and you will be anxious about no matter what anyone says. I had no negativity before but i still freaked out. Sorry i am probably not helping i will delete my comment if you want.

    Percent of Weight Loss Predicted

If I’m working it out correctly I’ve lost 103% of my excess weight. Starting weight was 266lbs, goal was 147lbs and I’m weighing around 145lbs.
  16. Artificial sweeteners continue to feed your desire for sweet. They’ve many other negative issues too. And you’re right, they seem to be in everything these days. Monk fruit is being pushed as a better alternative but it doesn’t stop the sugar cravings either. Neither do natural sugar alternatives (honey, coconut sugar, molasses, etc.) which are still basically sugar with slightly different glucose & fructose content. The weight loss stage made it easier to cut out or greatly reduce added sugar & sweeteners. I was only eating protein, vegetables, dairy & fruit after surgery so little opportunity for added sugar & sweeteners. (I stopped shakes from day 1 purées.) I prep most of what I eat from scratch myself. It’s the only way to control the ingredients. I carefully check the ingredient list & nutrition panel on any products I do buy. I avoid sweeteners but know there’s some in the yoghurt & protein bar I eat but that’s all. I’d rather choose products with low quantities of real sugar than artificial. I don’t drink carbonated drinks like colas, etc. or juices. I only have cakes, sweet biscuits or desserts, etc. a couple of times a year. I have a glass of alcohol about once a month. Our bodies do need some glucose. I get most from naturally occurring sources: dairy & fruit. My daily intake of added sugar is harder to define as total sugars on nutrition panels include naturally occurring & added as one total. I don’t add any myself. I know there’s 2-3g in my salad dressing & 1g in my crackers & about 6g if I use a condiment like mint or teriyaki sauce (couple of times a month). My desire for sweet has changed greatly & sweet foods are crazy sweet now. This is just what I do. Others may have better suggestions, alternatives, experiences or made more changes. It just depends upon how much you’re willing to omit or reduce from your eating plan & if it’s sustainable for you.

    November 2021 surgeries

Hi all, New here. RNY on 06/11/2021. Surgery day weight of 201 pounds. Today 08/12/2021 weight of 174 pounds 🎉 Surgery went well and not really any issues other than struggling to eat as much as my dietician wants me to
  18. 100% agree with @Jaelzion. I had tried many diets & eating programs & lost hundreds of kgs. I’ve run, walked, swam, biked 1000s of km. The 60-75kg weight fluctuation I’d struggled & fought to maintain for decades suddenly became 91kgs & I could not shift a single kg. I could see what was ahead of me & it wasn’t good physiologically or psychologically. The 31kg (67lbs) I needed to lose was a lot on my short & smaller framed body & more of a challenging given I was 54 & menopausal. That I lost 42kg (92lbs) has been a blessing & I’m thankful every day. And yes it was worth the $10 000 out of pocket cost (Australian health insurance is pretty crappy.) But I can understand your feelings this close post surgery. It’s all very scary & many question their decision the first couple of weeks. Hopefully, as the weeks pass you’ll feel more positive & confident about your surgery & what you’ll achieve. All the best.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Hello fellow April Sleevers, I met with my surgery team for my 8 month follow up appointment yesterday. Wow, can you believe it. Time has flown. I'm doing good. I'm at goal. I dont want to get any smaller. So, the past 2-3 weeks, I've been focused on maintaining versus losing any more weight. I have to kick myself in the behind a little. Water intake and strength exercises could be better. I'm still eating on plan. No cheating. The dietitian asked me about the holidays. I was like, oh please, I could care less about all that food stuff. I walk by tons of candy, pies, and cakes in the grocery store and none of it calls out to me. Food is everywhere these days. I feel blessed that I just don't have any craving or desire for foods that wont help me with my goals. As we move into a new month, December, how's everyone doing? Anyone concerned about the holidays this month? Would be great to hear from folks as we bring 2021 to a close soon.
  20. Had you never tried diet and exercise previously? If not, you're right, it might have been premature to leap right to surgery. But most of us who have had WLS have tried for years to permanently lose weight via all kinds of eating plans and all kinds of exercise plans. And many of us HAVE lost hundreds of pounds over the years (or decades), only to gain them back, plus extra. You know the quote about the definition of insanity? There comes a point where you know in your bones that "one more diet" or "one more workout plan" is not going end any differently. If you really believe you can lose the weight on your own, then it might be too soon for surgery. Most of us were long past that point by the time we had our procedures.
  21. About 6 months ago, I started randomly tripping/falling. I've had knee surgery several times (including total knee replacement) so I really assumed it was related to previous injuries. The falls were being caused by a condition called "foot drop" and I was referred for a nerve conduction study (interesting experience!) to see if the nerve was damaged beyond repair. If you aren't familiar with drop foot, it's basically where your ankle/toes are always pointed down and sometimes drag. The first question the doctor asked me was "Have you recently lost a lot of weight" - First thoughts... RUDE... I figured it was because of my loose skin (which even I don't think is too horrible). When I responded with "YEP, 100lbs" - His next question "Have you been crossing your legs a lot?" - Me: YUP, it's awesome... haven't been able to do that comfortably since I was a little one!" - Doc: "Well, here's your problem: peroneal nerve dysfunction." He then proceeded to let me know that he sees quite a few WLS patients with this issue and wishes that this was something more widely known. Apparently there is a "fat pocket" that protects this nerve. When we lose weight quickly (vs gradually), in some it goes away completely and leaves that nerve more "exposed" to damage. Looks like I'm going to be a lucky one and it's not too far gone to resolve with some physical therapy and some electrical stimulation. So, if you notice that you start to feel some numbness in the top of your foot and have a difficult time raising your ankle and toes after sitting for a bit with your legs crossed, just be aware that it *could* lead to something more serious.

    This surgery is bullshit...

So again, this is a tool to use. It is not a quick fix nor is it an easy way for you to lose weight and still keep your bad eating habits. It changes your physiology to make your weight loss chances more permanent. The rest is up to you. Now this is going to sound harsh but it is on YOU to do the research about any procedure before you have it. It is on YOU to do what is required to make a procedure like this work. To proclaim it bullshit because you don't want to put in the work is not placing the responsibility where it belongs. What are you eating? Is it fried food? Carbs? Cookies? Chips? Are you getting any exercise? Because if you are still eating garbage and sitting around on the couch then, yeah, you're screwed.
  23. I get that. I have been trying to decide about this for 2 years. I agree with you, but then I look at my age and increasing health issues, and how much harder it is to lose weight on my own each year that passes. And that's why I am (hoping) to pull the trigger on Dec, 15. But after seeing all the meds and nutrition/supplements problems/issues, and that just the calcium is going to cost $40/month, etc, etc., etc., I think I must be an idiot. BUT, I also need to get two other abdominal repair/procedures done AT THE SAME TIME which was another factor in thinking I should get this done since I'd have all the risks of those 2 procedures, anyway. I hope you recover quickly and it works out so much better for you (and me!) than you think. Let's keep in touch!

This may be an unpopular opinion, and I may be biased because I am 5 days post-op, but I wouldn't get this surgery to lose 50 lbs. This is my opinion I know everyone is different and has their own health considerations, but I am just wondering why I went through this horrible traumatic event to lose a smaller amount of weight (60 lbs or so). I paid out of pocket and should have spent that money on a trainer and food program. Idk. Take this with a grain of salt as I have said I'm fresh out of surgery.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

The only one that I have been sharing meals with is my husband and he is happy to because he now calls me his cheap date (haha). As for going out with friends, I found that if I just order an appetizer then I have fewer leftovers and I can still get my own plate. I had the same situation with the weight loss, for some reason I went back and forth from 217 to 218 for a week. But finally this morning I was down to 216!
