    HUGE NSV... had to share...

That is a great NSV. I noticed everyone in all the stores are more helpful now . . . strange what a difference a few pounds makes.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

I'm with the rest of you that I've been busy with the holiday preparations already but I wanted to take a minute to share a NSV for me -- I pack away my holiday sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. from one year to the next and I found a couple 1X things and said well, maybe next year and just for grins said let's try it on and see how tight it is -- it fit! OMG! I'm wearing a 1X red sweater to work today... woo hoo!

    HUGE NSV... had to share...

I think it is a fabulous NSV and so great that you can shop at your favorite store. A medium is a very exciting accomplishment - so nice not to be "large" even though we are not at all defined by our size. Feels good anyway and enjoy!

NSV Thread for the May Bandsters!

2 MAJOR NSV'S FOR ME, PLEASE! 1. OK, I may have cried  in the shoe section of my local department store yesterday! For me this is a HUGE NSV!!! For years I have been dying for a sexy pair of tall, pointy toe black leather boots -think: the friends episode where Monica spends like $1200 on a really hot pair of boots and they were gorgeous but she couldnt walk in them and Chandler ended up having to give her a piggy back ride around NY. Anyway i could never find a pair that I could zip up over my calves...That is until yesterday! YAY! And they are not even wide width or made for large calves!!! They are so cute, I cried!! I even made hubby take pictures of them on me in the middle of the shoe section and send them to my mom's cell phone for her to see, lol! 2. According to my newest BMI reading, I am OBESE. Yes, I know most people would not be happy with being called obese, but for me, coming from MORBIDLY OBESE, being just obese..this is HUGE! CAUSE I AM NOT SO HUGE ANYMORE, YAY CHIQUITA!!! (Chiquita is my band, hehe...) Keep it up May Flowers and Shrinko De Mayo's we are doing GREAT

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Ok, I know I said I wasn't going to be online today, but had to share this NSV... We received about 1-1/2 feet of snow overnight... yuck! I helped my DH shovel the driveway, and I wasn't tired, winded or achy! I did about 3/4 of the driveway as he dealt with the cars and played with the kids. In the past, if I did any shovelling, it would only be at most a 10th of the driveway. Not that I like shovelling, but wow, this is cool!

NSV Thread for the May Bandsters!

I bought a snugger pair of Lee's 14 jeans...DH told me to go get a smaller size because they were hanging off my booty. Well, I got a 12, tried them on for him, and he still said they were too big. Actually, they fit perfect, but have boot legs...he doesn't like that and told me to go buy some skinny jeans or straight legs. Why this NSV? Because he's NEVER requested me to wear one particular thing...and I like this (for now-ha!) On top of that, he ordered me a Victoria's secret catalogue...TF!!!!!

    HUGE NSV... had to share...

That's a great NSV for you. However, for me, if the salespeople had been snooty with me prior, I'd be shopping elsewhere!
  9. Since I've hit an 8/10 size-wise, DH has been letting me shop a lot... my favorite place EVER is Ann Taylor. I couldn't wear their clothes before, and when I was a 12 or 14, the salespeople didn't give me the time of day. Well, they do now. A couple weeks ago, we did some major damage at one of the stores, and DH found a dress that he just HAD to have for me. A nice wool dress, fully lined, VERY fitted. They didn't have my size, so he found one at another store. I went there to pick it up and was shopping for a sweater to match another skirt I'd purchased earlier. A salesperson was making recommendations, and found something I liked. She looked at me, up and down and said, "You're a medium, right?" Well, YES, I am... and somebody from snooty Ann Taylor noticed! Praise be to God! I just had to share...

Hello StLouisGal, I just wanted to comment on what you wrote about shopping. I too have the energy to shop this year (too bad not as much money, lol) . . . but it is SO different from this time last year. I remember one day in particular, when it was really cold out - my hubby and I parked far back from the mall (those bad shopping crowds!), and we had to hustle across the parking lot, in some very bitter cold winds. By the time we got to the mall, I had to sit down, I was so out of breath. Then I started to panic attack - I felt like everyone was staring at the "fat lady" who can't even walk without getting out of breath. I really started to feel sick to my stomach, my heart was racing - all of which just escalated my anxiety. I told my husband I couldn't stay - we had to leave. I felt like I was gonna throw-up. Luckily I have a very kind husband who was very understanding - he didn't make me feel bad, he just went and got the truck, pulled it up to the entrance so I wouldn't have to walk back across the parking lot again. I was afraid to go shopping again (especially malls) for a long time. Ouch, painful memory. But it really makes it all the more sweet this year, when I can zoom across the parking lot without a problem, stay on my feet for hours, and any anxiety is non-existent. It amazes me what a difference a year has made. Truly one of the best NSVs, but not so good on the money! I'm plodding along too - weight loss has slowed to about a pound every other week. Not so good, but I'll never be giving up this fight! If I have to swim uphill then that's what I'll do. Hang in there with us - love you too! Have a Very Merry Christmas (or whatever you Celebrate )
  11. Fellow Notorious Novembers - Hi! Banded on Nov 17th, had my first post-op checkup and doing well. Weight loss to date is 24 lbs, including 10 pre-op. Things are moving a little slower now that I'm on mushies, and since I'm healing, I don't feel as much restriction. Gotta step up the exercise to keep my weight loss moving at a faster pace (I am trying to lose 10 lbs per month on a regular basis until I reach my goal) and being careful what I eat. So far, mushies have been easy - hot cereal for breakfast, soup or chili for lunch, and a similar dinner. Chicken has gone down easy, haven't tried pork yet, and well-cooked beef is okay as long as I eat very small bites. Tried deviled ham (made ham salad) and that was okay, but sometimes the crackers I like to eat it with cause me trouble... Biggest thing I miss is bread - it doesn't go down very easily, unless it's crackers in my soup or something like that, because they get very soft. Found out I chicken soup! Experimenting with different soups - mostly clear and occasionally with veggies because they are so soft. I miss my protein shakes to a certain extent, because with them I KNEW I was getting my protein in...now I have to plan it more carefully. My latest NSV - wearing a "standard" XL top and skirt from Spiegel - something I NEVER would have tried before my band surgery...

    What to tell work/coworkers

The question to tell or not, gets less and less important as the weight comes off. Your self esteem goes up, your medications go down, your life is brighter as you get into small clothes and all the other NSVs. It is funny when I quick smoking, I found that when I told people they seemed to push smokes my way. When I told people I had the band, they pushed food my way or made snide comments. Now that doesn't happen when I say with confidence no thanks and give no explanation. My small point being made is - why do we feel we need to give any explanation but we do? As someone posted, when people comment on her weight loss she smiles and replies "Thank you".

Single digit! I would love to just get into a pair of pants with a double digit number with 1 in front instead of a 2. I am getting there. Yeah for all of the NSVs. Sorry that you have been sick Susan and Diva.

Mine's not as great as your NSV, but here's mine: Co-worker brought donuts today and I didn't peek/look/yearn/sniff/want any. Oh, and of course the goodies are starting to come from outside companies and I haven't touched a thing. :whatchutalkingabout

What a great NSV SMS! WTG!
  18. Hey Ladies...y'all are too funny! People at work have started to notice that I'm losing - one of my coworkers has the bypass and she's been the most supportive and complimentary - gotta love her! My hubby notices little changes as well, and my DD. No one else knows I had the surgery in my family, plus we live a few states away, so by the time I see them again (maybe in the spring of 09) I will be much farther along. Had an NSV today - my size 18 pants are fitting beautifully - no pulling, gapping or binding. Can't wait to get to size 16's, which I haven't seen since high school! Congrats to all those moving through the phases - I am just starting mushies this week after 2 weeks on liquids. I did start cream of wheat last week (thinner than normal) and have the clearance from my surgeon to go back to my regular workouts, which I'm really happy about. Can't wait to buy smaller clothes (just a few things at a time while I'm losing) - I'm virtual shopping the sales and by the time the post-Christmas sales come along, I'll have a GOOD reason to shop!:whatchutalkingabout

I've been out and about and haven't had time to come to the board. I am still going strong, although the weight loss has slowed to about half a pound a month, mmmm, in other words nearly non-existent. I'm not complaining, I am thrilled with my results so far and I am not gaining weight like I have after previous diet attempts. I have actually had the energy to go shopping and do other things that I have not previously had the energy or desire to attempt so that is a great NSV. Glad to hear everyone else is plodding along, We've come a long way in the last year. Happy Holidays to all. Love ya!

PJTP - I am having a terrific morning!:cursing: Congrats on being 'carded', BBK - that must have felt great! Traffic woes - I had to drive to work the past two days and I'm soooo glad I'm back on the train today! I HATE driving in rush hour traffic - people abandon their courtesy and goodwill and drive like maniacs! I have a fairly powerful car, and can drive in triple digits if I need to, but dang - every single day?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I stay out of the fast lane unless I'm passing - I don't want to be in the way, and I don't want anyone else in my way when I'm trying to pass...plus you get noticed by the state troopers less when you're in the slow lane  My dad drove semis and a taxi for a while - talk about an *ahem* adventurous driver! My mom said she wore holes in the floorboards of the passenger side of our family cars because she was forever 'putting on brakes' when riding with my dad. My hubby says I inherited his driving sense...:hurray: Though I grew up in Michigan and CAN drive in snow and ice, I don't particularly like it...the SUV drivers who think they are invincible make it dangerous for those of us who know that no matter WHAT vehicle you drive, you lose contact with the road and it's all over... NSV - My size 18 pants fit beautifully this morning...no pulling, no gapping and no stress. Looking forward to dropping down to 16's for the first time since high school - maybe by the end of the month!:cool2: Have a terrific day, everyone!:tt2:

    Thanksgiving Week Review...and a NSV!

Congratulations on your success. It is a wonderful feeling to find that clothes fit you now that you wouldn't dream would ever fit. Keep up the good work. I can cross my legs now comfortably (weird feeling first time you do it) and I was thrilled when I went from women's 22 to womens 16. I wore some pants I had gotten out with my sister and told her they were new. She said I needed to buy some more as they were too big! The waist band still fits so I keep them for exercising. I bought some misses 14s (women's only go to 16, at least in Blair's catalog) but soon they were looking roomy, so I bought some 12s and they fit! I couldn't believe it! I bought a new winter coat from L L Bean and ordered a large as their sizing is M 10-12, L 14-16, and I wanted room to layer. It was perfect. I ordered some jeans in 12 and then decided to live dangerously when I found a pair I liked in the SML breakdown; I ordered medium, which is the 10-12. They fit! I wear scrubs at work (originally 2x) and had bought a bunch of large (there is an outlet near work, everything mostly around $10 each) and they were okay for a while, then started looking too big, so I went back and bought some medium tops and pants. I tried them on at home and the tops were ok but the pants still looked too big. I said to myself, I can't possibly be a small, no way! I took the pants back, and said I wanted to try on a small before exchanging them. Well, it fit! I don't think I have been small since I was 12! My coworkers are very supportive. Now they tell me I look like a stick and not to lose any more, but I am an avid walker, and the proof is in the pants! I am still in shock. My hospital has an annual reunion for bariatric post-ops and this is my first year as a post-op (my sister had RNY a couple years ago and took me as a guest; something must have rubbed off on me) which is this Sunday. They have door prizes and bariatric friendly food. Then they have like a class picture of the post-ops. I am so looking forward to it. I hope you get to experience all the things you listed, and have that NSV of trying on a size you never thought would fit you. It is a very, very cool feeling. BTW if you like pizza, I dreamed up a crustless pizza recipe that I would be happy to share with you, if you are interested. Let me know.

Where is all the CT Lapbanders??

Hey CT Banders! Sil - congrats on your date - you're going to do SO well! Heather - I'm just getting to mushies...doing well so far, but it's only been two days  I'm finding that 'more liquid' is better than 'more solid' so far. Had chicken risotto Soup yesterday and with the mushy veggies and soft Pasta, had no trouble whatsoever. Allie and Sharona - I hope to duplicate your results! I'd love to be down 45 lbs by my birthday in February, though I'm not going to destroy myself by pushing it too hard. My current goal is to make 230 by Jan 1st. First post-op appointment this morning, band support group tomorrow night. I'm loving my new banded life so far...making better choices with food, fighting the head hunger a bit (that's the hardest part) and people have already started to notice the weight loss! Had a NSV (non-scale victory) over the weekend - bent down to tie my gymshoes before walking the DDog, and realized my tummy wasn't in the way any more! It's definately not FLAT yet, but it's going down, and I'm so excited!
