OMG!!! 5 days before I'm "sleeved"!!!
DallMike replied to MKK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there. I've been there too. Guess what, I'd do it again! , My knees and ankles have stopped hurting. Those tinglings in my toes and fingers signaling oncoming diabetes are gone. I've turned down the pressures on my cpap. I dragged out pants and shirts I haven't worn in 2 years. And yes, everyone at work is commenting on how good I look, face is thinner, look younger, etc...I'm only 5 weeks out!!! Found your answer yet? Keep reading the forums, that's what I did. I got good answers from a lot of folks too. -
Need advice on my post op diet
tenseintexas replied to Nikkinee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That would scare me too! But people always advise to follow your dr orders my diet said Clear Liquids first week- then other liquids then anything---- so I tried real food two weeks after surgery and boy was that a mistake- I immediately went back to liquids for an extra week. I guess puréed meats are kind of liquid but yuck . Hahaha Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

OVER A MONTH POST OP AND NO CHANGE!

I was thinking of doing weight watchers. The program requires you to track and I am able to weigh in once a week on the same scale. What you guys think? -
June 18 Lap Band, now 2 weeks post surgery. Today I finally went to GNC to look for alternative protein shakes. The ones I had bought before were from NorthStar Weightloss (online) and were 8 oz/ 18g protein, BUT they made me soo bloated and gassy that I dreaded having to drink them. Today I bought GNC shakes that are 12 oz/ 35g protein and so far no bloat - I might actually like these. First week and a half, I stayed with liquids (water, vitamin water, jello, broth) and now I've switched to some stage 3 babyfood meals (not as bad as I thought), big people applesauce (to crush pills into), and mashed potatoes last night that were FABULOUS! I have no hunger but I am still very sore at 3 of the 6 incisions, especially the port one, and don't have much energy yet. I haven't taken naps in decades and I often want one now (might be lack of caffeine). First week I was down 5 lbs, not sure how much more yet. My first fill is scheduled for July 15 (just short of 4 weeks post-surgery). I'm a tad anxious as to what that will change...

I wear a panty girdle, brand name "Control It" bought at Kohl's, everyday for work. It just makes me look better in my clothes, and I like the feeling of being pulled in that it gives me. I have a huge surgical hernia going down the lower abdomen from three previous surgeries (they always cut in the same place), and it helps it not hurt as much. I was also sent home from the lapband surgery with an abdominal binder, and I put that on sometimes at home for extra support. I've worn the binders off and on around the house for several years, since I get one every time they cut into my abdomen. As soon as I lose a bit more weight, the hernia is getting fixed as part of an "abdominal wall reconstruction". It'll be better than a tummy tuck, since insurance should pay.

My approval process was 6 months (Aetna Insurance requirement). And yes I lost 32lbs before surgery (3 week pre-op diet) and another 10lbs in the first 2.5 weeks post-op. I probably would have lost more if i followed the liquid diet, etc.. But I ate mushies on the 3rd day, and had cake a week later, etc.. Which as I later found out, is fine with my surgeon. Today is my 3 week post-op, I haven't weighed myself yet, I don't obsess over the scale. People's reaction is enough for me. Everybody who sees me is like "OMGOODNESS, you look smaller every time I see you" (they dont' know I had the surgery) For example, my Pastor's who hadn't seen me in a month (they're based in ATL and travel to PHX) were amazed, they were like you don't look like the same person. LOL lil' extreme but I guess there's a big difference between 1.5 chins and 3 LOL... I would definitely encourage you to get the band, I LOVE mine.

So I had my "official" 2 week post-op check up and I'm down 42lbs. I was just "sure" I'd hit the 50lbs mark but I'll take 42lbs. This puts me in the 200's a number I haven't seen in ages...I think high school, well and most of 2006. I was in the 200's then that cruise did me in and the scale has been climbing since. But I'm in the 200's and for me is a BIG deal, not as big a deal as the 100's will be but still a huge deal! I have noticed that my restriction is becoming less. I have 3 cc's in my band currently (put in day of surgery) but I still get very full, off of not much at all. 2 scrambled eggs or 1 packet of oatmeal still sustains me. Still on the protein shakes, still coming up with crazy new recipes for them like my "apple pie" one I made last night. But regardless of what I eat, I'm at that 42lbs mark, but my dr says it's right on track because that means I'm losing about 2lbs a week now which is what I'm supposed to be losing. I took my steri-strips off today and I have almost NO scaring. Dr. Nirmul did a good job. the 3 small incisions are invisible, 1 is completely invisible, I'm not even sure they cut there, the one under my breasts is almost invisible and the one on my right side looks like a small healing cat scratch. The port incision is healing nicely and is pink, but will heal quite nicely. I'm very pleased. I've been distracted for about an hour or two from writing this so I totally forgot what else I was going to add.. so I guess this is a good of place as any to stop... Oh and in other news, my love interest is coming home EARLY. He wasn't supposed to be home til oct, and I thought I would shock him with the new me... but he'll be home in a matter of weeks, probably just in time for valentine's day. We'll see how it goes. I'm in faith that it will be excellent and he'll just go through this change with me.

I went out and bought an abdominal binder during that first week. For some reason, my incisions felt better when pressure was applied. So, it did help with that. I didn't do it for looks, just so that I felt better.

I quit soda over a year and a half ago and my surgery is in 2 weeks. What i did was a replaced coke with coffee. I never drink my coffee with sugar and just a little half and half. This kept me from having the caffeine withdrawal. I drank like 2 pots of coffee to start because I needed to replace the void of not drinking soda. For a carbonated drink, we got a sodastream. I was able to carbonate Water and add poweraide zero drops to it. So it was like a flavored soda but no caffeine or sugar. Then I slowly transitioned from the carbonation to just regular water with the drops in it. This is all i drink now. I still had my coffee but cut back to 1 cup a day. I am not completely off the caffeine as i prepare for my surgery.

Can you allow yourself to "cheat" once a week on the Low Carbs, High Protein Diet
Quinny posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded 5/6/2010 and had lost only 35 lbs by Febrauray of this year. Well, I got on tract on Feb. 1st eating less than 25 Carbs and at least 60 grams of Protein a day. By February 10th I had lost an additiona 8 lbs. I decided I could cheat on the 10th because it was my 5 yr wedding anniversary. I didn't do too bad - had a little popcorn at the movies and maybe 10 chips and queso - ate 1/3 of my grilled chicken and shrimp and a small portion of dessert. The question I have is if you eat 25 grams or less of carbs a day and then eat a bunch in one day - have you seen your weight increase on the scale a few days later? I was at 237.5 lbs on the 1st and then at 229.5 on the 10th. Since cheating on the 10th, I have gone back to 25 grams of carbs or less a day; but, I weighed this morning (4 days later) and scale showed 231. Anyone had this experience? I thought if I did really well all week I could "cheat" once a week; but, not if the scale is going to do this each time. -
Need advice on my post op diet
Bufflehead replied to Nikkinee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If I were you I would try it, but in very small amounts. Do not try a half a cup! Start with less than a quarter cup and start with things that are easily digestible (yogurt, cottage cheese, fish) do not start with things that are hard to digest like vegetables! If it gives you trouble, switch to full liquids for a week and then try again. Good luck! -
Food is everything
sillykitty replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Love this post Ash! I agree, food is everywhere. Food and alcohol is embedded in my work life, they are embedded in my personal life. Go out on a date, let's meet for a drink. My mom meets me for lunch on weeks I'm not traveling. Extended family BBQ for birthdays and holidays. Out to dinner with friends. Vacations focus on delicious and unique local foods. With work going out for a meal and drinks is invaluable for building relationships that can't happen across a conference table or the phone. I have a love hate relationship with my restriction. I love that I am satisfied with a couple of ounces of food. It is still crazy to me. But that is such a small amount of food it is absolutely noticed by dining companions and wait staff. I hate the attention it draws. I absolutely feel strong every time I ignore the bread basket. Each time I order the chicken vs. the pasta dish. I honestly never thought I was capable of making good choices over an extended amount of time. I do really miss social drinking though. It is a big part of my work life. I feel very self conscience and awakward drinking my water while everyone else is having drinks. -
Best Thing I Have Ever Done
Beyon Sleeve replied to DebbieDeb's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
DebbieDeb you have made great progress so far! Don't give up! I know the mention of exercise can sound like a four letter word, but it is a piece of the weightloss puzzle. I started out slow with walking 20 mins a day 3 days a week. Now, after 6 months I'm running 4 days a week, but that was MY goal. Find YOUR goal and do it (literally write it down and put it on the fridge...I did!) You've got the ultimate tool to help you! Grab a buddy to walk with you. You CAN do this, girl! Stay strong, stay focused. -
I haven't weighed myself, im only 5 days post op, I will wait until I go to my 2week visit. I feel if I lose 25lbs in 3 Weeks I would jumping with joy. I would be so worried if I were you. Stress doesn't help losing lbs. Sent from my DROID RAZR using LapBandTalk

3Rd Week Post Op, Food Suggestions.
JoeyyMerc posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm doing pretty good, started my pre op diet at 414.5 now i am around 385. Anyone got some suggestions on what i should start eating this week before i try solids next week. I have done eggs, string cheese, juices, protein shakes, Broths, and water. I bought sugar free pops, pudding, and unsweetened apple sauce help me out on some other things. -
Its what I just did, ugh. On Soup no less. I can eat bread, I can eat rice, I can eat red meat. But I cannot eat vegetable soup. Why do I persist in trying? I'm late for an appointment now. PBing is not pleasant, but not too dreadful either. Its more inconvenient (and embarrassing if the need occurs in public). Its not uncontrollable, you're not likely to puke at the dinner table, but it is annoying to be locked in the bathroom with everyone waiting for you. Thank god, it doesnt happen often for me, only a couple of times in three years.

Are you happy with your sleeve plication surgery ?
forensicmary replied to chowchows's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I am 61/2 weeks poat gatric plication. i lost 24 lbs with preop. i am stalled out currently for 2 weeks. I am happy I lost a pant size but have come to the conclusion that unless I am motivated and vigilant I will not loseall the weight. I would like to lose 80lb total. This is not a easy task. I get mad that I spent the money and sometimes wish I would have been moreb in control of my eating. This surgery did not change how I use food to cope, my absorption of food or give me will power. It gives me a full feeling and I am hungry less. The surgery is a tool. I havent made myself vomit but I have been very uncomfortable. I am determine to get where I need to go and be healthy. It is however obvious to me at this stage that I have more to learn about food combinations and the mental part of weight loss. -

TX40 replied to chowchows's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I totally agree...I am 4 weeks out and have lost 25 lbs with preop....I have been stalled for over a week and have gotten very frustrated. I totally agree that it takes work on MY part as well, and the surgery was just a tool...just like with any tool..it wont work on its own..you have to use it....put it to work..I havent been exercising, or doing very well with my Water intake which I think is key. I am still very happy that I had the surgery, but am a bit disappointed in the weight loss up until now....You are SO right with the surgery didnt help how I FEEL about food...and my relationship with it....that's where the real work comes in for me. I am looking into a support group in my area for gastric surgery since I know I cannot do this on my own...thanks for sharing your story since it really spoke to me as to what I am going through right now...best of luck to you! I could really tell with fill number 2, on my first fill I was a little scared (not knowing what to expect) and only had 2.8cc's put in but I went last week and I now have 5.4 cc's in and oh what a change!! Had my first PB this weekend! That is okay though I have also lost 3lbs since Thursday!!:clap2:

I have primarily talked/posted with my November 07 group since we are all in the same time frames, but it is exciting to see so many close to my age having similar issues. I have done pretty well. Recently had problems and went on liquids. Just today I am going to try some real food. I am in need of a slight unfill, but my Dr. is out for a week or so. I would love to know if anyone is from East Texas.

What Kind Of Weight Loss Should I Expect?!?!?!?
karenmartin replied to Bethel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, everyone is different. I walked a lot the first year I had my surgery. Week 1 I lost 12 lbs and then I lost 2-3 lbs a week. Then it went down to 1-2 lbs a week. I had some weeks at 0 lost. But at the end of the year I lost 160 lbs. .... Different situation, my sister also had a gastric bypass and over 1 year has lost 65 lbs. So everyone is different. My advice is to truly have a change of heart with your relationship with food, never ever cheat.. Meaning don't "find out" if you can still eat candy or push for that extra bite... If your brain finds out you can cheat the system You Will. So don't cheat. Last, walking or exercising really does make a giant difference in how much you lose. So don't just sit on the couch waiting for it to fall off. You'll still lose weight but you won't get the results you're looking for...anyway, enough blabbing. Good Luck!! You're a new person now!! So exciting! -
Citrical makes a calcium citrate and offers it in new petite sizes (read the packaging as they also offer regular sizes/got it at Wal-mart.) It is about half of a regular calium and I have been taking that since banding one week ago and things are fine.
