Almost 1 week Post-op !

Hi! well as of right now I am 1 week post-op. I was banded Jan 30 and in surgery from 9:40 till 10:07. I am having a hard time with still being on an all liquid diet. Any suggestions?

Long-Term with the lap band...

I've been banded just over 2 years and no problems other than being too tight for a few weeks and that was easily fixed by having a little Fluid taken back out. I know at least 2 other people who've had their original bands for 10 years or more and have had no major problems.

Do it on your own

Yes, and every time I lose it "on my own" I gain back about 10% more than I lost. Dieting has made me morbidly obese! I think what you say is just right. I haven't told anyone yet but I pprobably will when they ask. I just don't know if I will be as nice as you about it!

Personal Victories

My 1st goal is to lose 10% of my body weight (28#'s) I was banded 1/16 and am down 11#'s pre-op and 11#'s post-op ... So I only have 6#'s to go. When I reach my 1st goal I am going to get blonde and purple highlights in my hair LOL ... It feels a little strange to reward myself with a new hairstyle but its better then food !!! and I am just not going to waste money on new clothes for a few more months =0) Good luck to you on your journey =0)
5. People started noticing about 20 but now at 50, my clothes are big and my face has shrunk. I measured the other night and my neck went from 19 to 15. I'm being very evasive about questions. I answer the how much weight question. And I say, "no carbs, no sugar, small portions, low calories" to the "what are you doing". None of that's untrue. I do the quick "thanks" and change the subject too.

Cheated On Pre-Op Diet

my friends think this is so easy. have surgery, lose the weight, no work at all. the preop is so difficult for me. I too cheated 10 days out. I am hoping the fear I feel about the surgery being called off keeps me on track. I am in a panic that I will fail.
7. Hi! Another Tennessee sleever here :-) I had surgery on October 4th, so I'm about 10 1/2 weeks out. Pre- and post-op combined I'm down 56 pounds. Woohoo! My surgeon is Dr Spaw, and I couldn't have been happier with my surgery experience.
8. I felt so terrible the first day after my surgery. I was depressed, miserable, and constantly questioned myself on why I would have done this to myself. I was angry with myself and felt as if I ruined my life... It was terrible.. I am about 10 days post-op, I love lost over 23 lbs and am Adjusting well to my new lifestyle.. Hang in there!!!
9. 21 days on liqued diet and 8th day on clear liqued diet and i dont think i can see anymore chicken broth yuk, I dont even want to smell it ughhhh Im afraid if i skip drinking the broth it might cause a problem i have 5 more days and then i go back to semi liquieds I think i can even have a hard boiled egg and tuna. Whats even more frustrating I have only lost 5lbs since surgery 5/02/2011. I have seen some people loose 10-15 7 days post op... Should i skip the broth?
10. Hi I'm Dawn. And I'm also from NJ (near Atlantic City). I'm the mother of 2 grown boys. And my surgery was 10/23/09. Would love to be your buddy. Feel free to add me as a friend or email me. Congratulations on your surgery and your weightloss. I was 304lbs I am now 210lbs. Lapband surgery is the best thing that I have ever done for myself. Look forward to hearing from you.

Dr. Benavides

Dr. B did my LapBand 7 weeks ago. He's one of the more experienced surgeons in the business.......the clinic that I went thru for all my pre-op work referred me to him because I was 'special' (senior citizen, heart condition, etc.). I had my surgery at the hospital in Decatur (only place he works that my insurance would pay for). The nurses/anesthesiologist/staff seemed very skilled - said they did 10 LapBands every Monday morning. The whole thing was flawless......I was in at ll:00, out at 2:30. Never even had so much as a gas pain afterward. I've had haircuts that were more traumatic! (The hardest part was trying to get on the damn surgical hose!) I've had one follow-up visit; he said come back in 6 months, but he gave me instructions to call him any time I needed to. (I'm getting my fills at the clinic that did all my pre-op work).

Hoarding and Morbid Obesity

New Yorker Michael Hebranko poses another medical mystery. Twenty years ago, at 1,100 pounds, he was considered the fattest man in the world. "I could eat two dozen eggs," Hebranko said. "Thirty-six pork chops, 24 frankfurters. I've eaten two dozen bagels at one time with two packages of cream cheese. I'm never full. I'm never, never, ever full." Then, in the late 1980s, with the help of celebrity dieter and exercise coach Richard Simmons, Hebranko miraculously dropped from 1,100 pounds to 200 pounds — in only 19 months. He became an overnight success, appearing on a Simmons workout video and becoming a motivational speaker to the super obese.

washing machine

Silly is good with me. As big as my middle was, it must've taken a lot of energy for me to ignore the way it got inbetween me and the washing machine, my car's steering wheel, the kitchen counter, you name it. I also somehow managed to ignore the high tide mark of dropped and dribbled food grunge on my clothes. I think I'd rather have 10 silly little NSV's than 1 big one. Not saying I'd refuse 1 big one, but the little ones sure make me appreciate my new and improved quality of life. Whoever would've thought that weight loss would improve your relationship with your washing machine?!

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Looking for a BUDDY

Hi everyone, how is everyone doing????I fell like I`m at a plateau...I had my surgery on 4/26/10 and was losing 1 to 2 lbs a day for about two weeks.I have no restrictions as of yet...I go for my first fill 6/29/10 and I hope this will HELP.I would LOVE any help I can get....
16. I had a fill on Friday 3/19/10. I am pretty tight right now. I can only keep liquids down. Sometimes if I drink Water too fast it will come back up. As tight as I am right now, I know I will be on liquids for a while. I am curious. If you were ever too tight, how long did you stay on liquids before the band loosened or you went in for a slight unfill? It has taken 10 months to get to restriction and I do not want to lose it. If I can endure for a fews day, then it will be worth it to see the weight come off. Thanks for your responses in advance.

Dr. Awad was my surgeon. I was sleeved on 12/19/2012 and am down 111 lbs. so far. I think he and his staff are really great. His office manager is one of his sucessful cases -- she's not only a great walking billboard, she's also a really wonderful and helpful lady. I have nothing but the highest regard for Dr. Awad and his whole team. in fact, I drove about five hours to have him be my surgeon after I saw him in a documentary about weight (and researched him). My plastics before and afters

Thank you - I want to share because I know it inspired me to see the results others had before me! I have a philosophy about picking surgeons that I developed as a result of the sleeve and applied to my plastics journey too. While we have a responsibility to advocate for ourselves, they are the experts. I decided to pick surgeons who have the results i want, have a great track record (safety and results), someone I can communicate with etc and let them make the detailed decisions. I feel like part of what i am paying for is their expertise and judgement. It is like bougie size for sleeve - at some point I had to "let it go" that my surgeon used a larger one than many I heard about and it worried me. He had his reasons and I am so glad I trusted as I have had great results and no complications with my sleeve. I had alot of concerns about implants because USA docs told me that the gummy ones wouldn't work well for me and that over the muscle was a bad idea. Well, that is what I got (and I did ask for Dr Sauceda's reasoning to help me understand) and the results are great. I can understand if others think this is bad as that is certainly what got pounded in my head by my USA consults. Same with the thigh lift, same with how the procedures should be staged. I listened to various opinions and arguments, and tried to understand the risk mitigations and then decided to trust... Plastics is a journey of trade offs and had I staged my work over 3 different surgeries I wouldn't be done till 2016 or later, would have had to figure out time off from work and help around my farm while I recover 3X instead of once, I might have gotten even better results (who knows), would have cost alot more, but I am so pleased with my results and it is just behind me now...whew. Pros and cons, plusses and minuses... we all need to decide what fits best for us. I had 6 weeks off from work, was cleared to start returning to normal physical stuff at 6 weeks (beyond walking and light exercise) and was cleared for everything by 8 weeks. Reality - it was more like 10-12 weeks before I felt up to vigorous or intense things but some of that was in my head because it felt weird as nerves came back to life (tingling). Recovery from the lower body lift is a big deal and I didn't have any complications.

My plastics before and afters

I am 8 months post op. I still have some belly numbness but otherwise no real "after effect" of the plastics. That might be permanent and I do have sensation it is just slightly numb. For awhile I felt like I swelled alot but everyone around me told me I was crazy. Then I realized that the "numbness" is what made me feel that way. I really don't get any more swelling then a typical woman - salty food and a bit of heat and I get a few pounds. Not much has changed except I lost 10 pounds since my plastics. I lost 5.5# of skin but that took like 4-5 months to show up on the scale due to post surgery swelling... that and I was so darn hungry that I ate alot while healing. I was kinda frustrated comparing measurements but i realized that one of the reasons they didn't compare well is that all that excess skin made it hard to accurately measure. sorta like putting a measuring tape around Jello... how firmly do you hold the tape? Now I am firm so measurements are consistant. According to the tape measure I didn't lose that much from plastics but I wear a way smaller size and I look smaller so I think that I pulled the tape firmer with all that excess skin I guess. Bottom line - I am SO GLAD I did this. It really changed my appearance and makes me feel normal looking. I went out dancing with a social group last weekend and i just felt like a normal woman in the crowd - without shapewear...woo hoo!
22. I relate. I'm 10 days post op now and sooo tired of the full liquids LOL But...there's a saying I keep having run through my mind, "Don't give up what you want most for what you want now." It helps me stay on track
23. I clearly remember day 6, I was planning on calling my doctor on day 7 even though I had an appt on day 8. On day 8 I arrived at the doctors, when the support staff asked how I was I started crying, my first week was nausea, diarrhea, pain and I thought I had made a horrible mistake. After seeing the doctor and learningmy pain was normal, my nausea was going to get better I felt so much calmer and reassured. I had to crush my antidepressant pills and some other daily pills, I said the same thing you are saying. I was in the habit of taking all my pills as soon as I got out of bed, I thought it necessary to cont. to do that. So every morning my day started off adding these damn pills to shakes and running out of room. I can't quite tell if you crush pills or your mess r liquid. The best product I found to mask the flavor was carnation instant milk sugar free, it was hard to find, found at Walmart, chocolate flavor really strong. By week 3 I could swallow pills so I became happier. Also if you r doing 4 oz on day 6 this might be causing your nausea. I was doing 4 oz too, I dropped it down to 1-2 oz and felt much better, much, much better, then in a few weeks I was up to 4oz and could tolerate it. I AM SO HAPPY NOW, I am at 10 weeks, still have some nausea but I think I just need to eat slower or??? GOOD LUCK
24. This is the post I made on last Saturday when I was one month post op. It took awhile to put my feeling to words but it ended up saying what I was feeling so I am going to copy it here. It answers the question for me and what I have received so far from the procedure. The title of the post was One month post op and "The Thing" I am one month post op today. Yay me! Life is so good! Surgery and recovery have been ideal. Did 3 weeks of liquids and 10 days so far of soft foods and learning how to treat my new tiny tummy. I have been good to it thus far by following my post op diet to the T. My new tiny tummy has in return, treated me exceptionally well. I believe we are going to get along just fine. My stats after one month are 13 lost on pre-op and 17 lost since surgery. Again, yay me! 'Now for "the thing" My stats are NOT the most important thing!! WTF?? I didn't see that one coming! At all! I have not lost a single pound in over 10 days. I know by the million and ten OMG! I'm 3 weeks out and hit a major stall what is happening to me my surgery didn't work threads that the chances of my scale getting in on that action was was pretty high and sure enough, my scale is determined to be the life of that party. This too shall pass. What I didn't see coming was "the thing". During this adjustment of not losing weight, my way of thinking has taken on a life of it's own. My brain did not freak out, didn't run for the nearest Taco Bell or Margarita with Mexican food. Every time I stepped on the scale, my brain would say your body is going through a huge adjustment and it will catch up. Be patient. I would step off the scale shrug and think yep, still adjusting. No big deal. Maybe even a good thing? I have made huge changes and I am still adjusting to them, so to be fair, my body needs time to adjust as well. I am listening to my body, giving it what it needs and it won't fail me. I know this now. I have never known this before. When did this happen? I don't know but it is coursing through me and I plan to never let it get away. One month out and I feel different. I physically feel better, I know I look better, but most importantly, my outlook and new knowledge feel so powerful and I know that I am in control. It may take my body longer to get to the healthy weight that it needs to be but "the thing" is, it will get there. I know this to be true now. Finally.
