**How soon did you get your first fill????**
txjanaa1 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good morning all, I had my surgery on 5/22/08 and did the whole liquid diet till day 7 and then am now on the "mushies" stage till day 30. I have found (in my sick head maybe) that there are actually alot of food that can "become" mushy (that should be a whole other thread ). The first couple of days eating mushies I found that I was getting VERY full VERY quickly. Like after about 8-10 bites or less. NOW.........it seems as though I never even had the Lapband??? What the heck is going on here? I know that once the swelling goes down that you start to feel hungry again and nothing really tends to get stuck, but I really didn’t expect it to be this quickly. My port is still sore when I push it, so to me that means...maybe...that I am still a little swollen?? So I should still get full quicker??? My mind is beginning to play tricks on me BIG TIME!!! Back to the fill question.... I am not scheduled to get my fill till 6/24/08, which would be 32 days after surgery (I want it NOW!!) How soon did everyone get his or her first fill?? Also, has anyone had or having the above situation? All replies are very much appreciated! -
Pam - Good for you for exercising!!!! That is a key for sure to losing this ugly weight and becoming healthy! I just got back from FILL #12 - I think and I honestly believe this is going to be my last fill. I thought Fill #11 was, but I decided to go back and get a little more. This time he filled me only 1/10th of a cc, just a few drops. I wanted to tell you you, I got there at 10:58am and did not walk out the door until 1:44pm. So, it took almost 3 hours! About your port side, I know it is tender but by the 29th it will be less tender. He finds the port side with the x-ray, and ten draws a little dot so he knows here it is, so he doesn't poke too much. I can't wait to see how it went for you. Make sure you come back and post! I'm looking forward to watching your progress. The good news is, he is using a different formula to numb you up, it is WONDERFUL, no sting at all. I said why did you wait until my 12th fill to do this, lol. Anyhow, I am hoping this fill takes me to my goal!

I hope my post is appropriate here. I had my surgery May 19, 2008 and I have yet to need a fill. The doctor says I am losing weight at a rate ahead of the curve and that he won't fill me until my weight loss slows down. (50 pounds including pre-op fast.) The problem I have is that I am hungry most of the time and can eat more food than is probably okay. I do reach a point however, where I can't eat anymore. Just wondering if anyonoe else has had this experience? I should just be happy I haven't needed a fill yet, right?

I was banded on May 31st and had my first fill on July 16th. I was leaving on vacation four days later, so my doctor was conservative on my first fill. He only gave me 2.5 ccs in a 10 cc band cause he didn't want me to chance me being too tight and being 1400 miles from home. I am going back this week and hoping to get to 4. The only problem foods I have discovered is RICE. OMG. If all food gave me the same feeling as eating two bites of rice, then life would be good. As it is, I can basically eat anything. The quantity is not as much as pre-band, but I know it is way too much.

Wow thanks for that I am a 22 and hope to be a 10 in 6 months......this site has helped me get through so many low points since my surgery. There is a light at the end of the tunnel!

I'm a bit slower than you lot, sounds like, but I'm still on the right path downward, and comfortable with it all. I'm in (loose) 16 and large sweaters now, soon to drop to 14 in pants. I've lost 70 lbs since the beginning of July, and I still want to lose about 45 more. I suspect I'll reach goal right around 10 months out, maybe as much as a year. Hang in there, everyone!

Thanks for the replies everyone. It's very encouraging. I think tonight I'll try taking my antinausea med and painkiller and see how it goes. What is the walking supposed to help with? It seems to give me gas pain in my shoulder when I walk for 10-20 mins -
Anyone else just starting this journey

@@cassandra I'm nervous too, not for the same reasons you are but I have my own demons that I fear the will disqualify me for, so we're in the same boat. All I can do is read these boards and pray that it won't be a problem, my initial consultation with the surgeon is Aug 10 -

Kaiser South San Francisco Dr. Robert Li
christysara replied to sarahisgreat's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I have my psych evaluation today and a little nervous about it but I'm sure it will be fine. My surgeon isn't requiring 10% which I am thankful! I only had to lose 10lbs but every surgeon is different. Right now I am sampling different vitamins and protein shakes to find which ones I like. I wish Kaiser offered a starter package of these things to make sure I am picking the right ones but they don't [emoji30] There are so many choices! Which surgery are you going to choose? I chose the sleeve. As for the carbonation... I am right there with you... I understand the reasoning but I don't like it. I no longer drink carbonated drinks and it has been hard but not as bad as I thought it would be. Have you scheduled your classes yet? What did you think about Rick the nutritionist? -
Has anyone tried 10 minute trainer? If so, does it work?

Anyone eat not-quite-mushy foods during the mushy foods stage?
commishnyse replied to Kele_Kana's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had tuna (4oz.) with Home made roasted peppers chopped up about the size of a pea...then took about 6 croutons cut them in half.. and would have the tuna with roasted pepper on top with a piece of the crouton..and it does not bother me. and i hear about liquids and mushy foods not being able to stay down, I'm not getting it can there be something wrong w/ my band? I feel like i can eat solids too i took a bite of my wife's pizza right after i finished my tuna and nothing..mind you I was banded 10 days ago.. in other words i don't feel like i have to blend anything.. -
So I am officially on the no calorie liquid diet until midnight tonight, and I begin my life changing journey at 8 am tomorrow!!!

Preop Jitters: State Of Extreme Nervousness
Claudia2012 replied to Claudia2012's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Quick up date.. I’m 9 days post op!! I can’t believe it!! Time flies.. My surgery went well.. the worst part of it was the air/gas left inside the cavity. I couldn’t sleep, lay down or sit down right after surgery. It wasn’t extreme pain, but more of an extremely uncomfortable feeling. So I took my Dr.’s advice and I walked! I walked about twice an hour starting from around 6:00 PM to around 10:00 AM the next day At that time I was able to lay down. I slept for about 2 hours. I was released soon after at 2:00 PM and that night at home I slept well.. no pain, no discomfort.. Most of the air was out of my body. Overall I feel that I’ve been extremely lucky. The most pain I felt was what felt like a pinch on my incisions and minor, probably unrelated back pain. No other symptoms. It feels too good to be true.. Thank you so much for all of your help and support. -
I Kno This Might Be Sick But
karenb4729 replied to mbasile's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
10 days... I ended up needing Milk of Magnesia and then Miralax. I took Miralax every other day for about two weeks to just keep going but now I have no problems and have a movement every day. Just remember along with the protein to try to get in some whole grain to keep things on the move when you are able to eat. -
Haven't blogged in a while, I just have a hard time thinking of things to say - I'm basically a gal of few words. Anyway, I do have some news today. I've been having a lot of trouble with my knee for the past year and a half. Cortisone doesn't help it at all anymore and it is almost impossible to get much exercise other than swimming (which I do almost every day for an hour). Anyway, I'm going to have total knee replacement on my right knee. If you were to look at my full body pics you would see how crooked my leg has become - it is not an illusion. So, while I am a bit bummed out at having knee replacement surgery at age 56, I am really happy that I will finally be able to walk around again. I find it totally amazing that I have been able to lose 70 lbs when I can only walk (painfully) 10 minutes at a time. I just keep telling myself that with the weight loss and the new knee, this summer you will not be able to see me at all I'll be moving so fast! Surgery is March 9, I took the earliest date I could so I can recover and get moving!

I figured I would be a slow loser due to my age and relatively low BMI when I was banded. I have been pleasantly surprised to have been able to lose 10 lb a month so far. I haven't weighed myself since February 6, but I think I will probably hit the 10 lb mark this month too, based on the way my clothes are fitting. I don't exercise much or regularly, though I always just move a lot, walk when I could ride, walk fast, generally bustle around. I also don't set goals, not even the 10 lb per month thing. I get too discouraged if I fail, which perpetuates the failure. I would like to hit my final goal weight by the end of the summer, and I have about 20 lb to go. I am pretty restricted, so I can't eat much at a sitting. I probably don't ever eat more than 1/2 cup of food at a time; it is just too uncomfortable. I watch my calorie intake and try to stay below 1000 a day, which isn't that difficult because of the good restriction. So the answer is, as usual, we are all different. What works for one doesn't work for another; what is necessary to lose weight for one doesn't matter for another.

Forget "Emotional Eating"...Think "Learned Eating"
Jachut replied to Warren L. Huberman PhD.'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Makes heaps of sense! I find the term "emotional eating" a very annoying overused excuse for people not taking responsibility for their own behaviours - which as you rightly point out means identifying learned eating patterns that are not helpful. Tying it up neatly to "I saw my dog get run over wehn I was 10 so I cant help but eat to squash my anger and misery" is just too easy. Admitting "this is a behaviour that I can control" is not so easy. But people dont seem to realise that controlling it by degree is an achievement too! We dont have to totally obliterate every bad eating behaviour, we just have to try to make enough difference to our intake and enough difference to our output to reach a new balance. Its not an all or nothing thing. How disappointing about the newborn analogy though. A bottle? Tsk tsk. What's wrong with a breast? Sorry, lifelong member of the milk mafia here. -
the support group in my opinion was awesome. I have a great support system in my "partner/wife" but she has never had wls so i needed someone who has gone through it to ask questions and get affirmation. I understand the emotional part. It's a lot of money for me out of pocket, about 7g and I don't spend money on myself normally. to be honest i don't do hardly anything for myself that is one reason this is a difficult decision for me. But I know I will not be the only one to benefit from this. Good lord 200lbs that is awesome. there was 2 people in the support group I went to who had the sleeve, a man who had it 10 mnths ago and was down 182lbs, and a woman, older than me who had it a year ago and was down 82lbs. so i have HIGH hopes for this to work for us!!!!!!
