Yes I was self pay. Its ok. I am use to the question. I have been up and down with weight for years and I have heart disease and high blood pressure in my family so I decided to stop it before it starts! I am very happy with my choice and feel great.

I'm not judging at all. How were you able to get surgery w a low BMI? I am also 5'5 but had a 37 BMI w high blood pressure. We're you self pay? I am super happy for you. 135-145 is my goal weight
  3. Hi everyone, so last year August I spoke with my primary care doctor about getting weight loss surgery. We both agree its the best choice for me.I did all my classes with my nutritionist & got approved for gastric bypass surgery. My surgery date is April 19 but for some reason I'm scared. I read a few entries about people regretting doing surgery & some horror stories. I read stories about people gaining back weight & others in n out of hospitals for various things.I'm scared. I'm terrified and honestly don't know if I should continue this journey. I'm 5'7 273lbs. I try so much different weight loss pills/diets and none work. I want to get the surgery so bad to save my life but at the same time I'm scared it's going to make it worse. I'm having mix feelings about this, anyone ever felt this was before surgery? Please help!!!! Sent from my SM-G925T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Scared/second thoughts

Being scared and nervous can make you question your decision. Normal pre surgery jitters. I’m sure your surgeon gave you the statistics and risk/complication facts. Your team is going to take good care of you and manage your pain with medication. The pain is temporary, your results will be amazing. As for all the horror stories, I think its human nature to gravitate toward the negative posts. It will fuel your pre surgery aniety. Try to balance things out by reading the positives. Surgery before and after’s https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/297668-i-want-to-see-before-after-pics-contd/ Success stories https://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1298-weight-loss-surgery-success-stories/ NSV's https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=NSV I think many of usthat have bounced back from surgery quickly and had no complications don’t get represented. People that are maintaining no longer need support leave the site. Most people posting are in weight loss mode, a few with complications and people that have gained weight.

    -51 pounds up close

Amanda - Wow! I can really see the weight loss in your face. Congratulations and keep up the good work!
  7. I am scared too. My revision is next week. I would guess most of us who are doing a revision are scared of failure. How could we not be? But it is also exciting because it does have a higher success rate and gives us a better tool with which to lose weight.
  8. I am a revision from band to bypass and honestly bypass for me has been soooo much easier than the band ever was. I am below my goal weight and loving life!!! Good luck!
  9. When I had to stop using the band, I gained 40 pounds in 4 years. That's when I decided on the sleeve. I can't help you with the other questions. I was private pay...sorry!!!
  10. I am having my surgery on Sept. 6th. when I initially went to a dr. I went to a satelitte for the surgeon in the county I live in (about 75 + miles from hospital). I weighed 388 lbs. I was told to follow the South Beach Diet and that was the last time I was weighed in or saw a Dr. for 6 mos. I myself went and got the psych eval when I learned my ins. required one but by that time I was 4 mos in and also learned that I needed monthly weigh ins with my PCP. oops I continued dieting and called the surgeons office and was given an appt to see him. That day was 5 mos. after my initial weigh in and I had lost 80lbs. My ins comp. waived the 6 mos weigh ins since I had wrote down everything I had ate and proved that I could lose weight and follow a plan. t has been a month since that weigh in and I know I have lost another 8lbs. So keep positive and talk to your surgeon!
  11. Ya my physician and NUT said its healthy for the surgery to drop some weight, but nobody could answer the 'will i disqualify' question lol. I definately don't think ill drop 70lbs lol. If i do then I will only have 30lbs left to get to goal and wont need the sleeve lmao! That would be funny. But no your right i guess it will all be ok and work out correctly! Yes they said the same, they just want to focus on my behavior and if it has changed!! The changes you made are good! Did you gain a lot? I think you will be approved. Gaining wait is the reason we need the procedure
  12. Nothing. Your weight is going to fluctuate while your body gets used to the changes. DO NOT WEIGH YOURSELF EVERY DAY! :smile1: I know its hard not to, but you need to give your body a chance to regulate to the changes. Every single person is different. Get your Water in - your body will retain everything it can if you don't give it enough water.

    Please help...slipped band

Thanks Susan...That is encouraging news. I am going back in a week and my NP is hopeful that that will be enough time. Well, I am hopeful (but I am also a realist). I think I can handle a week but A MONTH!!! I am so afraid of gaining the weight back. I am going to continue my work outs as I have been with hopes of continuing my weight loss. I'm curious, did you gain during that month? Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me. God Bless
  14. Did anyone have a tummy tuck at any time PRIOR to surgery? I had one after I was sure I'd stay at the weight I lost 8 years ago. Now my tummy is relatively flat, but I have gained a HUGE butt and thighs. Does it make the banding surgery more difficult? Did you lose weight proportionately?

    Food Journal

Just thought I would post a link for this great food journal I have used over the years. Site - www.doithome.com It is downloadable so it is much quicker than journaling online. You can download it for free but if you pay for it (I think it is 39.99) you can customize it to the amount of weight you would like to lose and for different diet plans. It has a great food list, but you can add to it if what you are not looking for is not in there. Just thought I would share for those who journal. =) Shawna

    Plateaus...

Hi bevanfranks - One thing that I've recently discovered is that you need to make sure you are getting enough Protein and enough calories in per day. I was actually eating too little per day. Also, when you're weight changes you may have to change things up a bit as far as calories go. You may want to eat a couple hundred more to see if that gets your weight loss going again. Seems strange, but it works. Good luck moving past this plateau! Karyn

    Plateaus...

I'm so glad to read this response. I was considering asking my doc about weight loss coming in spurts, at my next appointment. My weight DEFINITELY goes in spurts- then it halts a while, then I lose again. Each time it halts, it's disheartening, because I'm always afraid the loss will stop. I guess I have to just keep going, eventually the scale will move again!
  19. on surgery after my 6 mo. monitored plan required by Aetna! Glad to see a Fifties group -- looks like successes and some problems with our group. The surgery is scary to me -- but even scarier to my husband who isn't really happy about me doing this. I live in Georgia -- my doctor is Dr. Champion in Marietta GA.......I need to lose 80 lbs.....and the doc says I'm borderline qualifying for surgery - not sure exactly why.....but they told me if I lose move than 13 lbs during this 6 months, I'll no longer qualify.....so tell me what's a girl to do????? I've been doing a lot of reading on this forum and am very glad I've found it -- I think I'll send my hubby here to do some reading as well. He is really very concerned -- but since he's a mere 155 lbs soaking wet and couldn't gain weight if he tried....he really cannot relate to what I go through -- so thanks for being here!
  20. I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but I'm supposed to drink one ounce every fifteen minutes. Which leaves no room for anything else. LOL the pain in the incisions are breathtaking, and my stomach feels like it's cramping sometimes. Im in more pain than i thought id be. Ive noticed that I can drink about one and a half ounce before I get full...super full. And I notice that i don't have any cravings... But I would like a crunchy taco right now, just to have that crunch sensation. I promised my doctor that I wouldn't weigh myself before I see him again. My appointment is on Tuesday. But already I can tell that I've lost some weight, just by looking at my neck. One chin down, one more to go LOL. Getting my Protein in is a HUGE challange. liquid stuff is Disgusting. But... If I mix New whey Protein tubes with Water it tastes like crystal light....go figure. One thing I can't stomach is Jell-o... Ugh gross. But other than this I am doing well. Ready to get some cream Soups cause this broth ain't cutt'n it :-)
  21. I was banded in January 2008. Always looking for someone to be a lapband buddy/mentor. Even though I have support from my family and coworkers, it is nice to have outside support. If anyone is available, let me know!! I am only 25 pounds from goal weight and could use that little extra support, just like anyone else.
  22. I'm 5.5 months and just came out of a difficult stall. It last 3 weeks. I seemed to gain and lose the same 3 pounds for a month. So very frustrating. In back to losing again. But it's definitly getting harder.

Newbie .. Surgery buddy ? Advice?

Great to read so many threads addressing issues we have faced and continue to face in our community. I am lesbian, married for 15 years in July. My partner has always lived a healthy BMI. I need to lose about 160 lbs. It's hard to believe that I'm carrying around a whole person's weight. I think WLS surgery is courageous. Since deciding to have the surgery last xmas, I have lost 72 lbs. I had my surgery, after extensive dietary preparation, on April 18, 2016 and am almost 40 lbs down from then. This experience is more amazing than I could have ever imagined! Exciting, challenging and rewarding. The people who love me were invited along in my journey, the rest I leave behind permanently because I don't need their negativity or judgement derailing my life. To all, proud to be one of your sisters! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  25. I'm with Kalipso, you could be eating to FEW calories. When I was on weight watchers they drilled this into us, and if you walk etc you need to add more points.
