Hi, all! I have my final appointment with my surgeon and his P.A. next week. At this point, I have jumped through all the hoops and such and am looking forward to setting a date. In all my research I have had a hard time getting solid stats on the VSG. What I am looking for is: * success rates for two-year, five-year and ten-years out As long as I am at it, complication rates for the same periods of time. I realize that VSG came about as a pre-surgery procedure for a more serious surgery (duodenal switch, right?). Can't quite get a date (i.e., the year) for when they consciously did the VSG without the intention of doing the 2nd part of the surgery. Could someone help with any of those? Thanks for your help! HELP! Been told to stop Optifast by GP
ididit34 replied to whisper43's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is the weight loss a surgeon requirement or an insurance requirement. I'm just asking because I'm scheduled for surgery on the 26th and I only have to do a liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery. I wasn't given a specific amount of weight to lose. -
I've been taking biotin for one week. 2500 mcg twice a day. I'm still shedding but maybe now quite as much. I'm interested to know how long the difference might take.

Thank you Chandi. You have done an amazing job. Do you have any advice for us freshly sleeved people? In particular, so many people on hear are worried about stalls or slow weight loss. I am constantly reading that people are worried they are doing something wrong and won't be able to lose their weight. I would love your input.

Hi Morgan, You have come to the right place for help and support. First of all, I'm sorry for Doctor laughed at you and told you that you were too young and just need to lose weight. That infuriates me to no end. Nobody has the right to say that to anyone else. It sounds like you have had a weight problem you whole life, like most of us here. People who have never been overweight tend to find it hard to understand why we are obese. They make assumptions that we're lazy and all we do is eat. That's so far from the truth. If you went into your Doctor's office for any other medical reason do you think he would have laughed in your face. Absolutely not! When I started this journey, the first thing I did was research. I then found a local information/support group for lapbanding. When I called to register I was asked questions about my weight, height, and BMI. The woman sent me some info. in the mail. The information session was great because it walked me through the steps of everything I would have to go through such as consults and so on. Things have moved very quickly for me already. I went to my first meeting on Augsut 24th. Since then I have had my psych. consult, nutrition eval. and my consult with the surgeon is scheduled in two weeks. Find a surgeon in your area, ask if they have a bariatric coordinator. He/She will be able to assist you in what you need to do next. Search this site, you might be able to find someone from your area who can give you more info. I have met someone who lives about 5 minutes from me who has been so helpful. We have actually met and walk together at least once a week. Sorry for rambling, I wish the best! Jenn

I would let it go until he says something else. Some other things to consider are things like yeah, you only have 4 weeks left in his class, but is there a chance you could get him again? If there's a very low probability you'll have him as a teacher again, I'd probably let it go altogether, (unless he says something else, or something more innappropriate). Also, if he's really just flirting that's one thing. Completely different than intending to bait you to get a better grade, you know?

Kayford, I know this is an old msg, I was wondering how you are doing? I started Byetta a week ago, not banded yet. Are you still banded and on Byetta.

Tomorrow, I start my 4 week Optifast diet. That will be the hardest part for me!!!! Getting banded through Sparrow Weight management in Lansing. Anyone else go through there?

Flying affecting the band - I hadn't even thought of it. hmmm. I am flying next week (first time post banding) and although the duration is not bad 3.5 hrs, there will be a significant altitude change from here to my destination. So, perhaps my issues (if I have any) will be compounded - or maybe they will cancel each other out! I guess I will know next week. I hate the thought of my first holiday in about 3 years being less than ideal because of my band!

I am always joking when the cat walks on a phone and it dials that they are calling out for pizza! I wanted to make sure you know that even a little splenda or any artificial sweetener is toxic to dogs and cats and can actually kill them. Their livers cannot metabolize it. My dog looks so mournful now at not even being able to taste the shakes! Wonderful first post- welcome to the forum! As with above I want to make sure you know Cheech could die if he has artificial sweetener of any kind- his liver will not metabolize it- this means splenda, nutrsweet, aspatamane and xylitol- absolutely lethal to animals. Here's hoping your date comes soon! I am two weeks post op and love my sleeve. I also do You Tubes if you need some encouragement.

Are you happy with your sleeve plication surgery ?
nikki c replied to chowchows's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I am band over plication and I love it. It's the best thing I even did! Was operated on on 6/27 and had no complications. I had a huge hernia and that did cause me pain afterwards. I am eating about 1/4 - 1/8 of what I used to. I wake up and weigh myself everyday, and almost every morning i'm down a pound. When I did WW I used to pray to lose one pound a week! Now it's DAILY!! My doctor plans on filling my band in my 4th week. He wants me feeling little to no hunger. I already have excellent restriction, though. I was torn bw band plication, VSG or just the band. I'm so happy I chose band plication! -
So Confused About This Whole Lap Band "insurance" Process...
2bSMALLER replied to Coalminerswife23's topic in Insurance & Financing
When we submitted my paper work the first time , Aetna denied me after about the 3rd DAY. I had some missing paper work. We then had to appeal that. The lady who sets every thing up went out on sick leave so my paper work was set aside. Anyways , a few months went by before it was submitted again. The insurance companies have a certain amount of time to give a response . 4-6 weeks is what they are allowed . You may get an approval within a few days, few weeks or 4-6 weeks. We submitted my paper work the beginning of October , I was approved I think October 21st . Surgery was December 1. -
Hello Future- I am sorry you feel shafted. I hope that your wait is not extended by to many days. I guess you can be thankful that you are able to receive surgery and have a chance to loose unwated, unhealthy weight. My doctor is 5 1/2 hours away. I am blessed to have found him and I plan to utilize the travel time by thinking about my menu for the following week, writing in my journal, talking to other lap band friends, etc. Driving that distance to your doctor will probably be the easiest thing you will do in this new journey. This will be an extra expense due to the price of gas and I can justify it as I will not eat near what I previously did. Explain to your boss your situation and perhaps he/she will work with you. Just continue to work towards to being a healthier you. Good Luck!! God Bless, Grammy

embarassing and potentially dumb question...
amonroy replied to snereb27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I have PCOS and i've lost 70 lbs. I can tell you that the growth has slowed dramatically but I still have it in all the places on my face (chin, cheeks, sideburns, mustache) that I had before. I usually get waxed now about every month from a wonderful lady and my stylist who experiences the same problems so I don't feel so embarrassed going to her. I used to have to wax once a week, then it went to twice a week. I still think I want to look into the laser treatment on my whole face lol! -
Well, I've officially joined the club!!

I'veread So many posts like this, I really shouldn't be even writing this, but I just needed to vent, y'all! Upping my Water and Protein should help-at least I didn''t gain, right? I'll try and remain positive!.. -
4 weeks out ~ starting to get an appetite.
carolann0117 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 weeks out from my surgery (Dec. 27th). I noticed this weekend that I'm really starting to get an appetite. I was at a conference this weekend and wasn't allowed to bring in food. soooo looking for the most "mushie" food I could find, I found myself eating 3/4 of a tuna sandwich. I guess from reading everyone's posts here, I was surprised that I was able to eat the bread. I have lost only a few ounces this week . I was very spoiled by losing so much so fast.. now I seem to be slowing down. I also started doing some serious walking this last week. I don't know if I'm gaining muscle and it's out-weighing the fat loss, (or what)... ?? Does this mean I'm soon ready for a fill soon? I'm getting nervous that I'll hit a plateau. Other than my worrying about feeling hungry and not losing .... I'm feeling GREAT!!! How are you all doing/did at 4 weeks out??? -
B12 is a great idea. Even better than the chewables are the sublingual (under the tongue) ones. I got mine at CVS. I learned a valuable lesson, though. I took it after dinner and had a terrible time sleeping. Three am trip to Walmart to work off the energy, lol.

How soon can I have a glass of wine?
aneffie53 replied to liannatx's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I waited about 3 weeks but regularly (3 times a wk) have between 2-4oz. Just seems to be all I want. However, last night I tryed a sip (and I mean a small sip) of Grand Marnier. Which is undoubtedly the worst thing I've tryed in my 3 months banded. It will not pass my lips again, it burned my stomach like it was on fire and I almost vomited immediately (which would have made it burn going back up). So only a little wine for me from now on. -
Scared to death now and having doubts...
lrw26 replied to musicalmomma's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi.. I know how you feel. I had surgery 4 weeks ago and am doing very well. Have lost 28 lbs since my worst weight and I keep losing am down another pound this morning (have to change my ticker). I only started reading he boards after the surgery but if I had before I would feel like you do. I think you have to remember that many who are here are lookign for answers to problems and that the majority have none. I have had none of the problems you talk about and I am so determined to make this work I do everything I have been told. Follow everything to the letter and I will not fail. Dont worry about it but be aware that the band is only a tool and that you have to work with it and be motivated. It is easy though since it changes how you feel about the food. Try not to read about all the big problems, I am doing fine but get the same reaction you do when I see some of them and it scares me. I am very happy that I had it done, I am already fitting into clothes that I bought but have never been able to fit into. Last night I had what seemd like heartburn like soemthign was stuck and maybe I ate something wrong but I am fine now and the other pound down made me feel good. Convince yourself that you will not fail and don't read the bad parts unless you have problems later. I am older than you are so look at this as my last chance, I was not always overweight only the last 15 or so years and I want to be my old self. Think positive and feel good about your decision.. I feel I am rambling and repeating myself but I can feel what you are feeling. I am no longer hungry, get satisfied with the tiny portions and don't crave candy and diet coke, it just doesn't bother me to even look at others eating it.. I may be back if I think of something else. Feel free to send me email if you want.. Lise -
Long term overseas travel 4 months post op
higher replied to Nikkinee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi @@Nikkinee - wow! What an amazing couple of years you have planned. I am not a WLS vet, I'm just a month post-op but I'm a world traveler myself and having been to most of those locales I can tell you I can't wait to go back post-op and *really* experience them properly. I missed out on so much by being too sluggish and overweight. I've also spent a significant amount of time in various Mexican regions- don't worry about Mexico! Yeah, tortillas abound but the fruits and vegetables are SO SO fresh and they prepare world class Proteins. You'll never miss out on spectacular flavor. I was just in DF a couple of weeks ago and some street vendors told me it's trendy for chilangos to order taco fillings to go with a fork- no tortilla! So that's what I did and it was DELICIOUS. Keep us posted on your travels! You'll do great. -
Feeling frustrated and depressed
mythreechildren2001 replied to queenmab's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I feel your pain. I was sleeved 7/12. I lost 18 lbs the first 2 weeks and nothing these last 2 weeks. It's frustrating and makes you wonder if you'll be the 'one' that it just doesn't work for. I'm trying to be patient, but that's not my best personality trait so it's not working out for me so well. I guess we just have to keep hanging in there! -
pre-op diet help needed
happymama2014 replied to docbree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kaiser gives a specific pre op diet 1200 or less calories. Protein, veggies, whole grain, fruit. Protein first. Then veggies etc...They only do shakes the month prior to surgery because they want people to learn to eat healthier first. Im 41 and I can lose 2-5 a week eating under 1200 and EXERCISING...even if it's just a brisk walk but it's easier for me to do circuit weights at the gym than walkng and it builds muscle and burns more fat faster. But replacing meals with shakes you should melt off lbs. good luck. I'm trying more shakes because I'm stocking up for post op so I'm hoping to melt a few extra each week. I get my surgery date this week -
good morning all! so heres my dilemma...im 15 weeks post op. and ive been doing fine. the past couple of days tho, where my stomach is located ive been having random feelings of like "tightness"..u know that feeling u get in your stomach when u gets nervous??..like that but its where my stomach is...its not because im hungry either, cuz it does it randomly throughout the day. dont wanna worry if its nothing...but any idea what it COULD be..? thanks for your input!~

I would be glad to help one on one (I guess since I'm in my 40's I'd be the parent-type mentor :biggrin0:). I am just over 5 months out, but I know what it's like to research and endure the first few weeks of lots of questions. Also, feel free to ask your questions - lots of people can chime in and offer their advice.
