  1. Hi All I am 3 weeks post op and at the weekend I bent over too quick and was not aware of my posture and got a sharp pain under my left rib where my stomach is. I have had no pain since I came home from the hospital. Now it hurts in that area when I twist or bend. I would describe it as a muscle type pain/bruise pain. When I'm sat still it only hurts now and then. I've called my Doctors but cannot get an appointment for 2 weeks. Anyone else done anything similar?

    Where’s the weight loss??

I agree with everything liveaboard15 said. Plus you may have started your three-week stall a little early. I did as well - mine was weeks 2 & 3 (most of us have our first major stall sometime during the first month of surgery. We call it the "three-week stall" because it's usually the third week, but not always). Just stick to your plan and stay off the scale for a few days....

    Where’s the weight loss??

You are doing great. Not everyone looses a ton of weight quickly. Some are slower than others, some are faster. and remember you will hit stalls along the way where you wont loose much or any weight at all for a couple weeks or so. Just stick to the program and you will do great. This is a long process.
  4. Ugh. Today marks two weeks since my RNY. First week I lost 10 lbs. This past week I lost 1.5 lbs. I don’t understand how this is even mathematically possible when I’m eating no more than 600 cal/day on average (no issues getting fluids in, no constipation, eating mushy foods now and getting most of my protein in). The logical side of my brain knows this is a process, but the emotional part that misses McDonald’s fries is feeling like this tastes a lot like Weight Watchers 🙄
  5. Good Morning everyone/anyone-that-reads-this, 1st time poster here. I had surgery on Feb 10th so i'm in week 5. I have been following the guidelines. Week 3 I tried baked chicken thigh. Super small bites (size of a pencil eraser). It seemed to be going down ok but then I felt sick and had to throw up. My stomach has not really tolerated solids since. I had my 1 month last week and the surgeon said to reset. liquids for 2 days, puree for 2 days, then soft for 2 days. I tried a greek yogurt this morning (that I had been able to tolerate) and after 1/3rd I felt sick, like the food wanted to come back up my throat. I'm only hitting about 400 calories a day. is that normal? I hate this sick feeling whenever I eat I feel like i'm never going to be able to eat a solid again. Sorry for this rambling post I'm just scared and frustrated.

    changes to...um

Hi there. I had a revision from sleeve to mini bypass about 6 weeks ago. In that time, I've had quite a bit of diarrhoea and loose stools. Sorry for the TMI. It's really gross to me, too. My poop is green and smells UNHOLY. Is this going to last forever? I traveled to the Uk over the weekend and I was concerned about toilet access. Can anyone advise? Thank you.

Post op food- Low carb wraps

All you can do is try them. I still find processed carbs like breads, rice & pasta too heavy & filling. Had a single duck pancake at yum char today & groan & I’m almost three years out. Others successfully eat low carb breads, etc. but many do only from maintenance. Check with your dietician to be sure too.

    Post Op - Effects

For many, the purée stage occurs in weeks 3 & 4 then soft food begins in week 5. But every surgeon has their own plan & some vary them according to the needs of the individual patient, their recovery, health history, etc. You may be feeling weak from the low calories or not getting in enough nutrients & be lacking in something like iron as @fourmonthspreop suggested. For me it was because my blood pressure was very low & I was getting the odd hypoglycaemic episodes. Oh yeah cottage cheese is awful. Have you tried denser slow cooked soups made from meat & vegetables & blended very well then strained. You’ll get more nutrients in that way. I was able to have instant rolled oats made on milk - make them pretty milky & runny. (The instant are more processed & less dense. I went on real ‘steel cut’ oats from the soft food stage.) Try blending poached chicken thighs with gravy or stock. Also try blending tinned salmon or tuna with Mayo or other liquid sauce. I even had some baby food a couple of times.
  11. We all have our natural fluctuations. Fluid, hormones, constipation, etc. Mine is a kilogram (2.2lbs). Never really noticed it before because I rarely weighed myself. You may have been the same. Now because we weigh ourselves more regularly & record our weight, the fluctuations are more noticeable. As long as your weight loss trend across is going downwards, all is good. Doesn’t matter if there’s little hitches. Stalls happen. The first usually occurs around week 3 & can last 1-3 weeks. Frustrating & stressful when you see no weight loss, but a very common part of the weight loss journey. They do end & your weight will start to drop again.

Weight Gain 2 weeks post op

I’m thankful I found this thread from a few years ago. I’m two weeks post op today and have been having a little weight fluctuation since starting on puréed foods last Thursday. I lost 18 pounds in my first week after surgery, but then put 3 back on, 4 back off, and 3 back on. I know I shouldn’t be weighing myself daily but I haven’t been able to stop doing so. Hoping this is normal and overall I’ll drop a ton moving forward!

    Feeling kind of devastated…

I am 4 weeks today from my breast reduction and panniculectomy surgery after a 105 weight loss and maintenance for more than a year. coming up on 62 y/o. Surgeon removed 6+ lbs. I was a DDD and told my surgeon I wanted to go as small as possible without increasing any risk. He thought a large B or small C. My focus was on my quality of life 5-10-15-20 yrs from now. I could feel the difference in my neck and back within just a few days. I have not shared w many that I was doing this. vast majority don't know what I had to do to manage the excess skin and boobs. don't expect most to really even notice. but if they do, they do. what is important is how I feel and I feel great! I am grateful for each step of this journey and thankful for the improved quality of life it has given me.

    January 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hi dear! I had surgery 1/31 and in the same boat. Lost 31 since surgery, but I’ll go a whole week and not lose. I’ve noticed that when I have my period I don’t lose any weight, so that’s been 2 weeks right there with no movement. im trying to up my water intake, and up my exercise to daily. I got up drinking too much juice for my sweet fix. So I’ve cut that way back again. how many calories are we supposed to be eating each day?

Stalls are normal I had one at 3 weeks post op for about a week. Another lady I know at 4 or 5 weeks had a 3 week stall despite getting in her water, protein and exercising. Don’t get discouraged it is part of the journey. When I would have stalls before the surgery when trying to diet I would change my eating for one day. Example if I was doing no carbs and after 2 weeks stalled then I would increase my carbs just for the day and it seemed to help. Now since I had the surgery when I had the stall I just kept the course and weight started coming back off. I had sleeve feb 7th and I am 37lbs down 10 from pre-op liquid and the rest after surgery a little slow to me but I have had some issues and have been unable to tske in protein up until recently. I am now able to drink protein water so hopefully my energy and activity will begin to increase for increased weight loss.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I also notice this, and it was also last week when I was away from home. I think it's because I wasn't doing protein first. I ate half a tuna melt sandwich all but two bites and panicked that my restriction had disappeared overnight. Of course it hadn't - turns out carbs first is not the right way. Now I'm back at home I'm feeling the restriction again - just the same as before. I will need to plan better next time I'm away from home. I'm almost 5 stones down on my highest weight. I feel amazing. I have always yo-yo'd so I have ALL the sizes of clothing to go back through on the way down. Once I reach a steady weight I'll invest in some new stuff, especially for work. Turns out 10 year old work clothes look like they were in fashion 10 years ago. 🤣

Hello surgery was 1/27 vsg .. down 32lbs from surgery 42 all together … I’ve noticed I’ve had numerous stalls .. im getting super discouraged.. has anyone dealt with anything like this? How much has everyone lost since surgery?
  18. I had a 3 week pre op of non carbohydrate vegetables, 1 low fat yogurt, 1 piece of fruit and 40 oz [ 2 pints] of skimmed milk. I had sugar free ice sticks and I was allowed coffee, thank the gods for that. I cook, I researched the food I could have really well. It was still the most torturous time of my life. As I was self pay, I didn't dare cheat but oh boy, was I a happy woman when the day came to have my op. In the end I lost 15 pounds eating salads, Thai broths with veg and water noodles in and lots of roasted vegetables with aged balsamic vinegar. After 4 days I wasn't hungry just very very bored. Stick at it, Your time in food prison will soon pass

    Regret and Depression

You had surgery 10 days ago? It's not uncommon to have 2nd thoughts right after surgery. When you combine post-surgical pain, the shock of the change in diet, possible post-surgical depression, and a lot of other factors, it can take a while to feel "normal" again. Don't assume you'll always feel the way you do now - take it a day at a time. Week three was when I turned the corner. Best wishes!

Walking and having somebody percuss your back/shoulder or wherever the trapped gas. It was explained in a video I watched from my surgery center. My surgery is next week, so I have no first hand experience though

    Small NSV

That’s a good feeling—I got on my motorcycle for the first time two weeks ago and have discovered I actually need a new helmet because it’s loose around my face now.
  23. Is it making you cough? The only reason I ask is because I had acid reflux and I was coughing up foul smelling, brown/yellow phlegm. It turns out I had inhaled stomach acid into my lungs in my sleep and had developed bacterial pneumonia. I was in the hospital for a week. Please get it checked out especially if it’s the result of a cough.

Pre-op diet, hungry, not losing weight

You’re going to be really hungry, unfortunately. I had to do it for three weeks and was pretty miserable the whole time. Try to fill up on sugar free beverages which will make you feel more full and keep things moving.
