    Starting my journey

I checked with my insurance then since I didn't need a referral I attended an online info session with my bariatric program then had to take quizzes lol then I scheduled an initial visit with my surgeon who I've had before for another issue and my program legit handles my 6 month visits in house I need a psych eval and a letter of support from my Pcp also need a my sleep study and a month of compliance on my new machine but that's it Sent from my SM-T380 using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. No, totally agree! I am still drinking Protein drinks. But there is only one brand/flavor a like, and a few I can tolerate. I know I'm going to burn out of them sooner or later! On another thread this was recommended - Bariatric Fusion Meal Replacement - Unflavored. Said it is flavorless mixed in most things. I'm going to order it and hope it really is undetectable!

On bariatric pal you will get negative remarks but you will also get positive and supporting feedback which I found priceless at the start of my journey. Don’t take it personally. For me I wanted to lose 90%of my stomach and I think I did, if not more! I hated food as much as I loved it! Look what it did to me and I blamed everything on food instead of looking deeper. Now I can only eat very little amounts (about 2 ounces at a time) but I’m not sorry. I feel fabulous. I feel sexy, happy and healthy. Good luck on your journey if you need support we are here for you. I promise.
  4. I paid my deposit and scheduled for VSG surgery the week of March 20th. I’m having issues with joining the center’s private Facebook group. I request to join, but my invite has been pending for the past week. I’m not sure if this is a huge issue and the coordinator keeps checking on it, but never responds why I can’t join. This seems like a minor issue, but it’s starting to make me re-think moving forward with this facility or doctor. Does anyone else have recent experience with Alo Bariatrics or Dr Alejandro Lopez? Any recent positive or negative experiences?

    Revision

Any news on your revision nikki2524? Are you feeling any better? That's strange, that nurse telling you since your body wouldn't use the calories to go ahead and eat anything. Doesn't sound like any Bariatric nurse I've ever met. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. Well I thertainly hope not, I missed the star in the East the last time. Besides Bariatric Surgeons tend to,get bent out of shape by such proceedings. That's why they caution against pregnancy for 18 months, you have to get healthy yourself before you go incubating another generation. I know major surgery can make you erratic as all get out but most, ladies on here complain about too much, not too little. If Auntie Flo doesn't make a visit before the end of the month maybe you, need to visit the gynecologist. Best to you. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

    April/May 2018 Sleevers!!?

You are right this is a very serious process and the effort that we are putting ourselves through to go through it is the real deal! We have to give support to each other and in some situations tough love. Just because the sacrifices are nothing to play with and the amount of money, time and emotional energy itself is a lot. There are some forums specifically for those who are seeking information or the interest alone in the surgery and that may be a better place to find the answers to the questions being ask. Not to say we won’t help but this one is more so for those who are already in the program and are having surgery around the same time (April/May) so we can share our journey and support each other. However, with all that being said I recommend her and anyone seeking information to contact your local Bariatric Center and go to a seminar these are no cost to you. They are set up to help you understand the basics. Good luck to everyone and I hope this is something we don’t have to continue to address. Let’s continue to support and keep it positive
  8. Agree with Creekimp. It may cause a bit of a later surgery date, but in the end you would be getting what you wanted so it would be worth it. Call the surgeon’s office as soon as you can and discuss your concerns. It shouldn’t be a huge issue really as most bariatric surgeons perform both surgeries. Make sure you let us know what happens.

Where are all the single cat ladies?

Bless his [emoji307] he looks like he could use some feline bariatric surgery, on the other hand, if he's happy and content that means a lot. Give him love and pets from me! Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

    Not taking my vitamins

I use Tespo vitamins. They have a bariatric version and i picked that up. I have only heard good things about it. I am only in my first month, so I dont have blood work results yet. But I get to skip taking pills, which is nice and it works toward getting in my water.
  11. If I were wanting to do this more economically I would consider Bariatric Pal MX and. Dr Illian. Although there are doctors in Texas, Louisiana, Michigan and Florida that are more budget-friendly, Alex Brecher will be having his revision to Mini Bypass at Bariatric PalMx, and it isn't because of economic issues because he could afford any US or Canadian surgeon. He knows the staff there and trusts them with his own health. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Are there any Bariatric Pals from anywhere else in Africa? I'm sure South Africa is not the only place on the continent where such surgeries are done? Please post and tell us about your surgeries also. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. Not a bit:) Some outrageous number like 50% plus of the stomachs they remove for bariatric surgery show signs of chronic gastritis when they send them in to histology. They found chronic gastritis on my endoscopy, too. As long as you don't have helicobacter pylori...there shouldn't be any issue. My doc said I probably got it from taking a lot of ibuprofen. It did not affect my sleeve surgery. Had my endoscopy, and was sleeved 5 weeks later.

    Does your stomach feel normal?

I buy the Bariatric Fusion meal replacement powder. It is intended/sold as an actual meal replacement product - i.e. just add water and that's your meal, but I started out getting it because they sell it in single serving packets and I wanted to try something without spending $40 or more on a huge tub, in case it tasted awful. I figured out that each tablespoon of it has 7 grams of protein (I figured out all the macros for my food journal, but don't remember off the top of my head). At first I just added one tbs to various things to test out the texture/flavor. I put it in Vitamin Water and while it didn't add a texture or different flavor, I feel like it may have made it taste a little sweeter or something - I'm not exactly sure but I didn't like it. But I can add it to literally everything else - yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, oatmeal, homemade frozen protein pops & fruit pops, and it has no added flavor or texture to me whatsoever, and being up to 3 tbs per serving, has really made it easier to get my protein in. I'm buying it by the tub now. Everyone is different, but I highly recommend it.
  15. Congratulations on catching yourself before the ultimate fall! That's huge! You are still a success because you've kept more than 50% of your weight off. You're even just a success for catching yourself before the fall. Now just go back to the bariatric basics of protein first and follow this. You'll be back under control in no time.

Had my Three Month check up

Great news! It is SO nice when you ease into only seeing the surgeon’s people once a year. I do my PCP in March and the bariatric people in October. It beats the hell out of monthly appointments!
  17. I am curious if anyone else has experienced severe headaches when they started the pre-op liquid diet? I cut back my caffeine to almost nothing before I started. I am having between 700 - 900 calories a day on Bariatric Advantage. Thanks in advance.

STOP Hair Loss and Thinning Hair!

It is a dream for most people to have full, thick hair especially when they notice that thinning hair and/or hair loss is visible. Most bariatric surgeons will tell you the hair loss is only temporary -- but most patients will become quite alarmed to see the many strands of hair at the bottom of their bathtubs day after day. Causes of Hair Loss and Hair Thinning Following weight loss surgery, our bodies must adjust to a lesser amount of calories. Only those organs that require nutrients the most will receive them. Hair is not among those organs. Hair strands also retreat into a state of temporary suspension after weight-loss surgery and do not produce new strands. The condition is temporary, and you don’t need to be concerned about losing all your hair. Likewise, thinning hair is caused by deficiencies in our nutrition; for instance, low iron levels in the body causes hair loss. Treatment for Fuller Thicker Hair The causes of hair thinning and hair loss can be treated using natural elements like supplements and essential oils. Additionally, remedies for thinning hair or loss include reducing stress, having balanced hormones, eating a great diet and so much more. 20. I thought you might say it fit me better, just a week to seminar#1 gosh I hope I like what they say. I want to stay in the bariatric groove and keep moving forward. Post-op anxiety

Generally when you are released from the hospital after surgery, you are given a Bariatric Discharge Instructions. One of the sheet that I received was titled When to call your physician. One of the potential hazards after surgery is the possibility of blood clots. They can form in the veins of your legs and then move up into your lungs. Therefore one of the times to call you physician is Shortness of breath or calf pain. Your description of your symptoms soreness and pressure around my lung area. So review your discharge instructions and see if any of the listed symptoms match your symptoms and if so contact your surgeon's office. It is better to err on the side of caution.

    Post op question

According to the internet: Nausea and vomiting are the most common complaints after bariatric surgery, and they are typically associated with inappropriate diet and noncompliance with a gastroplasty diet (ie, eat undisturbed, chew meticulously, never drink with meals, and wait 2 hours before drinking after solid food is consumed). If these symptoms are associated with epigastric pain, significant dehydration, or not explained by dietary indiscretions, an alternative diagnosis must be explored. One of the most common complications causing nausea and vomiting in gastric bypass patients is anastomotic ulcers, with and without stomal stenosis. Ulceration or stenosis at the gastrojejunostomy of the gastric bypass has a reported incidence of 3% to 20%. Although no unifying explanation for the etiology of anastomotic ulcers exists, most experts agree that the pathogenesis is likely multifactorial. These ulcers are thought to be due to a combination of preserved acid secretion in the pouch, tension from the Roux limb, ischemia from the operation, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use, and perhaps Helicobacter pylori infection. Evidence suggests that little acid is secreted in the gastric bypass pouch; however, staple line dehiscence may lead to excessive acid bathing of the anastomosis. Treatment for both marginal ulcers and stomal ulcers should include avoidance of NSAIDs, antisecretory therapy with proton-pump inhibitors, and/or sucralfate. In addition, H pylori infection should be identified and treated, if present.
  24. Oh I'm praying you get a great report sweetie!!! I'm so excited for you!! How many weeks was this appointment again? Me=Short term memory! Mine ended up being 1 week + 2 days. I have a second f/up next week. Don't cheat this weekend, and keep doing your Full Liquid Phase 2 ok?!!! I'm glad you like reading about my food exploits. For the longest time, I've been concentrating on quick 10 minute meal fixes, cuz it was so hard to stand more than 10minutes at a time. Now that I can stand longer, I just don't have the will to be in the kitchen for hours on end! And still want to keep the food contact to a very purposeful 10 minutes to get real foods either in a slow cooker or on my plate! LOL. I hope you will keep jumpin' in and reading/contributing with some of your own wicked feats of kitchen strength here!!! Maybe this can become a "dump site" for great bariatric food ideas??? Wouldn't that be awesome!?!
  25. Day 10 Post Op - 219lbs (-3.4lbs Post Surgery) I slept really well again. And woke up full of energy, calm, and very happy! The pure act of chewing and eating savory food yesterday really calmed me down and made me content with my post op experience. I explained to my surgeon that although I would be content with my current liquid diet and not complain, I'd probably gladly sacrifice small rodents for the opportunity to advance to savory Stage 3-Soft Foods. She laughed and said, how do you feel about eggs? I told her that I'm pro-egg and then smiled and admitted that I'd been dreaming of a perfect 6.5 minute soft boiled egg with a spoonful of avocado floating on it! She said, go for it! Well, it felt like I won the weight loss surgery lottery!!! So this morning I fully intend to have my soft boiled egg and tablespoon of avocado! Score baby!!! I'll give a full report! Lunch will be my leftover cheesy soft scrambled egg from last night, and I think dinner will either be another soft boiled egg, or perhaps my dijon egg salad on a low carb cracker. I use low carb tortillas and cut one into squares the size of wheat thins. Then you place the squares on a paper towel and nuke at 20 second intervals, turning them onto the flip side every now and then until perfectly crispy and just beginning to brown. That's about 1 minute total in my microwave. Then store in an airtight container and use 1 or 2 for cracker subs. They're perfect for egg or chicken salad, perfectly low carb, and not too fiberous--melting in your mouth quite as easily as saltines, only without all the carbiness! I love an egg fast and even wrote a crap ton about Egg Fast Diets on my old blog. So many great egg recipes, but some of them are a bit advanced for my early Stage 3 Bariatric Diet, so I will just be content with playing by my doc's rules! Maybe I will revisit them and revise them for the low fat bariatric diet approach one day. I hope I will continue to lose and not begin the 3 week stall early on account of beginning the real food phases early! But if I do, I'm emotionally prepared and have my big girl panties standing by!
