    Shakes make me ill

I like the Crystal Sky too, but I like the roadside lemonaid even better. You can get a sample pack and try all the nectar flavs. The Cherry wasn't too bad. The apple tasted just like green apple jolly ranchers to me. They are a nice change from the milky type stuff. When at home where I can use the blender I like to toss in some yogurt, about 4 frozen strawberries, vanilla Protein powder, some ice and 2 sweet-n-lows. I used to drink an Atkins shake every morning, but they changed the flavors to make them "new and improved" and they now taste very bad to me.
  2. Today I started my "VERY STRICT" 2 week pre-op liquid Diet. All I can say is Thank Goodness I am off for the next days so I can get the routine!! My diet SPECIFICALLY tell you what to have at every meal. AM: Protein Drink Supplement 1 cup skim milk or light yogurt MID MORNING: Fiber Supplement (5 gr fiber in Water NOON: Protein Drink/Supplement Fiber Supplement 1 cup skim milk or light yogurt AFTERNOON: 1 cup raw veggies w/ ff vinaigrette dressing DINNER: Protein Drink Fiber Supplement EVENING: Protein Drink 1 cup skim milk or light yogurt Total of 100 oz(minimum) liquid (including all liquids above). Plus u can have UNLIMITED broth, sf Jello, decaf coffee/tea, crystal light, sf popsicles. And this is the menu for 14 days...... Pray for me. I mean I am all for structure but hmph. So far I have not detoured (and I dont plan on IT!!) but I am 8 hours into the day and i can honestly say I am NOT hungry. Only time I felt a tummy rumble was this morning and I just drank some water. It seems simple but I am constantly looking at this paper trying to make sure I haven't missed anything! Or planning my next drink! LOL Wish me Luck!!
  3. I cab go between meals without thinking about food (and I don't have a fill yet). I have set times I eat so that heps regulate my body-it works for me. I eat at 8am (usually a shake) at 1pm and again at 6pm. I canhave ight snacks in between like yogurt, SF applesauce, etc. but I save my snacking for 9pm and have something yummy and I canhave a ittle more since I didn't snack throughout the day (usually 1/2 banana on top of SF choc. pudding, cool whip. I also have water throughout the day. I do think the band helped with with snacking. Have a veggies tray set up for quick muchies. Good luck!
  4. Good luck! My surgery date is the 23rd so we will start our journey together. I hope you aren't as nervous as I am. This forum is an amazing source of information but also scaring me a bit! I have tried a bunch of protein powders and most are kinda lousy. I did like the Biggest loser vanilla and chocolate though. Put it in the blender with water, milk or even greek yogurt with some artificial sweetener and some ice and it's pretty good.
  5. Thanks k8! It's an old nickname from college and yes...my eyes are blue. I started my pre-op diet last wednesday (2 weeks prior). It's about the same: 3 protien shakes, 1/2 oatmeal, 1 sugar-free Jello and 1 pudding,1 fat free yogurt, and 1 unsweetened applesauce. No caffeine and no soda. As for the chart, it's pretty simple to put in the tracker. Just go to TickerFactory.com to customize your weight loss tracker. It will give you the code to use for web forums and blogs. Copy this information and then go to Profile>Change Signature and add the code in the Edit Signature block. Let me know how it goes. Keep in touch. It would be great to have someone to talk to as we go through day by day.
  6. Tomorrow marks 2 weeks since my surgery. On Tuesday I get to start soft foods (after 2 weeks liquids). My doctor recommends cottage cheese, yogurt, flaky fish, etc. for this phase. For those of you who have hit this milestone, was was your first soft food? Thanks!
  7. I didn't start puréed until week 3 and solids until4-5 weeks. Everyone has a different plan. I would stick to the plan your doc/nut gave you. Most of what you are feeling is called head hunger. A few ways to deal with it are to stay busy, walk, drink plenty of fluids, try different types of puréed foods. Cottage cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs, creamed soups ect
  8. Cottage cheese. Sugar free jello. Broth light yogurt. Tomatoe or v8 juice not v8 fruit juice tho. Sugar free pop cycles.
  9. You can have Protein with just about everything you eat right now, Nofat greek strained yogurt has 23G per 6oz. if you blend this with whey protein isolite which is another 25-30G per serving, you can get all the protein you need in just a couple of your many meals each day. I would also suggest not knowing all your particulars that 60-70G is very light, especially if you are working out with weights at all. I would encourage you to maybe double that, But check with your nutritionist first. Keep up the good fight.
  10. You are less than a week out from surgery. At this point just do your best. You are still healing and depending on how tight you feel, you may not hit your goal everyday. For my mushy foods I was only allowed soft Proteins which included yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, tuna, sliced lunch meat, other cheeses. So the Protein was not too hard to get in. Enjoy!

    Grocery Shopping??? Help

I would say yogurts , sugar free Jell-o, Banded April 5th 2012... my journey begins..
  13. Don't think I've lost a ton in my 3 month supervised diet but I have been saying goodbye to my "friends" pizza, pastas, corndogs, fries, soda etc I wish I could say I've followed a strict diet but I know I'm going to do great after surgery... It's nice to "part" with these foods and go on with my life! I have to say I have fallen in love with Greek yogurt especially Fage and will eat that for dessert any day! Yum! I love watermelon and my Nut says its fine since its not junk and a great source of Water so I eat that for Snacks. I love tacos and have omitted the shell and just crumbled three tortilla chips on for crunch...I had jaw surgery last year and was on soft foods for over 6 months...I have to have crunch up until this surgery lol

    Surgery tomorrow!

I personally haven't been very hungry. Today is the first day I've noticed it. 4 days post-op and I've been having the low carb Slim Fast shakes (dr approved); each one has 20g of protein. Also Greek yogurt and sugar free pudding with protein mixed in. I think it will get harder but I have to use mind over matter. In about a week I can start adding soft foods so I just have to focus on that!
  15. I followed a pretty basic diet of approximately 1200 calories per day pre-op. I was on the diet for about 4 months. Here's the gist of it: Breakfast: 2 Proteins (1 oz. lowfat meat, 1 egg, or 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese is one protein), 1 dairy (1 cup fat free milk or yogurt), 1 fat (1 tsp oil or butter or 1 tbs. lowfat mayo) 1 fruit, and optionally 1starch (slice of bread, cup of sugar free low calorie Cereal, 1/2 cup rice or 1 serving oatmeal) Lunch: 2-3 proteins, 2 vegetables (1 cup raw veggies or 1/2 cup cooked is one veg), 1 fruit, 1 starch, 1 fat Dinner: 3 proteins, 2 vegetables, 1 starch, 1 fat, and 1 dairy

    Soft Food Suggestions

bake or boiled sweet potatoe, cream of rice (alot smoother than cream of wheat), boiled chicken thigh (shredded) you can make chicken salad or mix a little with your refried beans, mash potatoe and turnip or parsnips (boiled) mix together with a littel salt and peper is so good! Hummus, yogurt, cream of brocolli (low sodium).

    Protein shakes

Are you doing preop diet? I added Greek yogurt. Go for Fage or chobani because they have a lot of Protein in it and that will keep you fuller longer.

    Rumble In The Jungle......

Aside from sf jello I cant think of anything that's not dairy, ie yogurt, pudding, cream of wheat etc.
  19. Ouch! Sorry you're having issues. Honestly if it were me, I'd be concerned. Protein drinks can be fairly insulinogenic for some of us with blood sugar issues. My BGs do go up when all I'm consuming are protein drinks. But more importantly, the Fairlife milk and yogurt also have carbs/sugars that may be affecting you. What kind of sauce? Marinara? That can also have hidden sugars. If it were me, I'd try dropping the milk first and replace it with ricotta cheese (the lowest grams of carbs you can find with it). Next I'd drop the yogurt or switch to the lowest carb Greek yogurt (plain) that you can find. I'd also test FBGs, pre-prandial, and post prandial until you know what your BGs are doing when you wake up and in response to your meals. It may mean that for right now, you still need your medications. Hopefully they will go down again once you are on solid food and can limit highly insulinogenic foods in favor of dense proteins, low glycemic veggies, small amounts of healthy fats, and low glycemic berries (if any fruit). Hang in there!

    2-days post op - Meds?

I am 3 weeks postop. It’s very difficult! I hope you are crushing your meds - very necessary. Don’t be swallowing whole pills at this point. The med for acid reflux should be a capsule that you can open up. I put the crushed meds on a little yogurt to get it down. You can always call the emergency line for your surgeon or talk to your pharmacist. You are getting rid of the gas from surgery. - will take a while. Take care!!!

    High protein shakes

I doctor my shakes so much with other things that I don't have a clue what the powder taste like alone, ha! I use Walgreen's brand of chocolate and vanilla and I add Dannon Light & Fit yogurt. The dark cherry with the chocolate protein powder is delicious! I also use sugar free Jello pudding powder for added flavors. Lemon is great with the vanilla. Hope you find one that works!!
  22. I am now on day 2 of my pre-op diet, surgery in 12 days. In my anxiousness to "be ready" I bought cases of Protein shakes, soy milk, V-8 mini cans, a variety of fruits and berries, and high protein Cereal & a dozen greek yogurts. GUESS WHAT? None of that is on my pre-op diet and the rest I can't have until 6 months after surgery! I had just read too much and thought I knew what was going to be ordered- I WAS WRONG! So once again, remember---research, research, research---but always take YOUR doctor's advice BEFORE buying anything!

    Back to work -_-

How far out are you and do you have a frig at work? I am on the mush phase and take Soup or turkey chili for lunch. For Snacks, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, Protein shakes (I like Muscle Milk in a pinch). I tried Peanut Butter but it seemed to have too many calories and not be worth it. Hope it helps.

    Back to work -_-

i go back next week so have been thinking about this too. I plan on string cheese, greek yogurt, protein drink (ready made, i use pure protein from walmart) and either some rolled up thin sliced deli meat or chicken salad....thats enough food for breakfast, lunch and snacks.......

    Pre surgery diet

mine is basically...Average 1200-1300, calories per day carbs 175, Protein 85, fat 12 g 2 shakes a day, 2 Soups a day (can have chunks), 1 yogurt, 1 pudding. I can add a similar meal if hungry, take away a meal if nit hungry. There are guidelines for the Soup calories etc, and the pudding has to be fat free and sugar free. Yogurt is no sugar added. I received a 14 day sample pre op meal plan which helped a lot. Some things alternated in week one: oatmeal, carrots, small apple. I have a sample meal plan for post op meal plan 2 weeks
