Well I can tell you that you shouldnt be eating bread right now. Its not considered a mushy. We all feel lousy when we don't lose. Stop weighing yourself everyday. Weight loss is going to stall. It's inevitable. It will happen even to the best dieter. Mushies should be protein not starchy carbs. I know a lot of people eat mashed potatoes on mushies but I don't push that. It's not a point of stopping when you feel full its a point of stopping when you feel satisfied. You have to look at that in a different way now. For now give up the carbs and concentrate on protein. If you have to eat carbs then try Quaker weight control oatmeal. Its sugar free and has 7 grams of protein. Eat eggs and I wouldnt eat salads (chicken and tuna) even with reduced fat mayo. You are trying to get your body in ketosis which is the only way you are going to burn fat. Dannon light and fit greek yogurt has no fat and 14 grams of protein. You have to decide do you want bread or do you want to burn. I personally want to burn my fat not hold on to it.

Protein, water vs calorie intake.
jess9395 replied to Pinkpeonies1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do some searches on here for favorite Protein shakes and do some taste tests! There are hundreds out there I'm sure you can find one you like. Took me a LONG time and I don't like most of the ones people on here rave about, but I just kept tying! Personally I like the Syntrax Matrix ones (mint cookie and Peanut Butter cookie are my favorite) and the BSN syntha 6 ones (Mochaccino, orange cream and vanilla milkshake). Keep trying! At your stage I was doing two most days and Greek yogurt to get my calorie and protein count up. -
I've been lactose intolerant most of my adult life and can tolerate cheese and yogurt but not milk or much ice cream (now I don't eat it at all). I have been drinking the Premiere shakes recently and haven't had an issue. Your mileage may vary. You may want to try some protein powder in your yogurt or mixed with crystal lite. That's a bummer. Hope you feel better soon.

Post Sleeve Nutrition

Most of those foods are on my nutritionists list as okay. That being said it is: 2% cheese Peanut Butter is okay in moderation since it is high fat and I watch brands for sugar content coffee Add-ins such as creamer is higher in sugar and some people drink a little coffee with their creamer Greek yogurt in and of itself is high sugar but the Greek 100's are excellent pretzels and chips are a slider food, they don't fill you up and are empty carbs Baked goods, sweets and pudding are high sugar and fat. SF pudding would be a better choice if you gotta. My nutritionist and surgeon say for me to get 60-70g of Protein and no less than 900 calories at this point. I am to eat 3 meals and 2 Snacks. I don't have to count the rest as long as I get protein first, non-starchy veggies second and starches last if there is room. I do a Protein shake for breakfast on the go, lunch is 3 ounces meat and 1 ounce veggies, snack is a Protein Bar, dinner is 3-4 ounces meat and 1 ounce veggies, evening snack is 1.5 ounces fruit. Other than my protein shake in the morning I only drink Water. It is all about the choices we make. Good luck! -
And all of a sudden my shakes make me sick. I drank them since day 1 post op and only the past three days, after only 2 or three sips, it sends me flying to the bathroom in a sweat and coming out of both ends (sorry tmi). I've heard of lactose intolerance after surgery, but I've been fine with skim milk, cheese, yogurt, and all other dairy. Thoughts? I use the premier protein shakes from Costco.

Ok to eat this amount of food or this type of food?
Jessyca replied to eejaydiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded two days before you and am also on mushies. I find that yogurt and cottage cheese are good for protein but aren't that filling. My dr allows us to have fish and tuna. I find that tuna salad fills me up immediately. I had 3cc put in during surgery but I still find that I am hungry. My 1st fill is scheduled for 5/9. -
Wow! I cant believe it has already been almost 2 weeks. It has been really easy so far. No gas pain, no real pain from surgery at all. I have lost about 35lbs since the preop diet that started on January 10th. Im going to list a typical day of my foods. Please give me your opinions below on whether or not it is similar to what you can eat or if its more or less,or if Im eating the right types of meals and Snacks. Any input would be awesome. Breakfast. Protein shake Mid Morning - sugar free Yogurt or a scrambled egg lunch 1/2 can or so of soup(usually campbells chunky type) Mid Afternoon - small cup applesauce dinner More Soup or turkey chili snack sugar free pudding cup(occasional) 50-64oz of Water per day. Your opinions would be appreicated!

Today marks two weeks. The good: down 9.5 pounds, no issues with BM, taking all Vitamins, meeting liquid goals, feel good, pants fitting better, getting more energy and yesterday I ate lunch out with my hubby (panera we shared a pic two-I had 1/2 of the creamy tomato Soup (no croutons) and he had the rest). The bad: getting bored with yogurt and I just can't tolerate "sugar free" anything, not meeting Protein goal every day and I miss eating out. I am a band to BP so I know my weight loss will be slower than others so I am okay with where I am. Every Monday I take pics of myself in my undies (for me and no one else to see) and I am starting to see a difference. I am looking forward to my next "stage" and visit with my NUT on Thursday. Here's to hoping everyone has a terrific Tuesday.

Professional Pics Of Me At Goal! A Present To Myself!
Forensikchic replied to Forensikchic's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks everyone! Advise for newbies.....Follow the instructions from your surgeon. You have a certain window of opportunity and you can fall off the wagon (slightly) later...Now is the time to seize the moment. Remeber to keep your carbs low and your protein high! It pays off! When you get to mainenance, you can up your carbs some then so you will settle out. You will always have to keep protein high though so might was well get used to that and find high protein things you LIKE> I dont like some things like yogurt and eggs. I wont eat it and the beauty is I dont have too. I can find things that I like and tailor it to me! You can too! Focus on Protein! That doughnut can wait til maintenance! I do eat a cookie about 5 nights a week with a little milk to satisfy my craving for sweets. It works for me and its a cookie, not a bag of cookies, like before. Thats my secret to being satisfied. If we have cake or doughnuts at work, its rare, so I will partake a little and thats okay because its not weekly or even monthly.. its a rare occasion and sweets are ok as long as its not overboard. I am carb sensitive so I have to build the cookie into my plan for the day, so I dont go over my carbs.. I use the 70/70 rule.. no more than 70 carbs and no less than 70 protein. HTH. -
Next Step: Mushies. What Are Your Favorites?
TeenaD replied to LapBandSoccerMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow I'm on mushies, and I'm not allowed mashed potatoes or ground meat. Boo for me! I have been eating a lot of scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, oatmeal. I do pureed chicken and salmon at dinner, but...yuck! My favourite mushy vegetable is peas. They're actually good. -
Need some feedback about daily diet

You should still be in the soft food stage. Try mashed potatoes, refried beans, yogurt, cottage cheese, apple sauce, soft cooked veggies, and oatmeal to name a few. -
Need some feedback about daily diet
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to szavala22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm no doctor or nutritionist but 400 calories a day is way too little. I see no veggies and no fruit in your daily menu. That would be the first place I'd try to start adding in some calories. I also see no dairy, which is another food group you definitely need for calcium (unless you're lactose intolerant). Adding a cup of skim milk or a Greek yogurt would be great. I would take your food logs into your nutritionist, they'd be the best person to help you adjust your daily routine. Best wishes. -
you need to have at least 60g of protein per day. I drink isopure. I hate that taste before on pre op diet but this is only drink which goes down fine after surgery in the beginning. 15g of protein per 8oz bottle. and I also counting it as liquid For shakes I am drinking Atkins advantage but from 11oz container I only can finish 5oz at the time. and I need to wait another 2 hours. I don't want to have more. are you allow eat yogurt? looks like you are on the second week. if yes. might be try mix Greek yogurt with either water or skim milk and add protein powder. It has less calories then atkins shakes. and in 2 glasses has 60 g protein which I need per day.

The first week i was advised to drink water, crystal light, proteins drinks, SF popcicles, SF jello and chicken broth. When is your follow up with the NUT? I was given a packet that outlined my diet but the first week you will lose the most since its all clear liquids mostly. The 2nd week i was able to add in greek yogurt, and SF pudding. You do need to get some protein in as you cant just be drinking water. Try adding broth's and check out different protein drinks..ive been drinking Isopure Zero Carb (40 g of protein a bottle), Good luck!

14 Days Post Gastric Sleeve Op, Bored With Protein Shakes, Extremely Fatigued
jenni_867 replied to Lisa821's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Are you ready for the next food stage? How about trying some soft cheese or cottage cheese in the blender? I also bought some flavored greek yogurt and sugar free yogurts. I feel better now that I'm getting "real food" in. I was also feeling pretty tired too..... Hope you feel better soon! -
First week or two post-op...how much protein did you/are you getting in?
oldoneyoungagain replied to sageandcoyesmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still seem to be in the mind set I have to drink clear liquids, so thanks BBdoodle for making me rethink what the heck. So later will fix a chocolate, almond milk, with some greek yogurt and make a smoothie. My doctor wants between 70-80 gms of protein. Right now I'm drinking 34 oz of crystal light and protein and sipping that takes hours. -
Tonight, after a particularly long day, I came home in a bit of a foul mood and started contemplating what to have for "dinner" (the quotations due to me being only 2 weeks out today with very limited choices) and ended up making a cup of miso Soup from a mix I bought at the health food store. I had to post the outcome of the evening on the forum, because I knew it was the only place where people would understand. Background info, I saw the doctor this morning and she said I can try advancing to slightly fuller liquids like yogurt or cottage cheese, being very careful to see what I tolerate. She also recommended, due to our gallbladders being stressed on such a low fat diet (apparently they need fat to function? Learning stuff every day), that I add a tablespoon or so of olive oil to Soups, to increase the "good fats" in my diet. So, feeling brave and desperate for a change in menu, I added the oil and also about two tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt to my soup, even though I've been pretty fearful about advancing my stages. My insurance sucks and I have major anxiety about causing any problems. Well... It. Was. Amazing. The olive oil made the soup taste just a bit richer. The yogurt was very broken down by the warm soup and the pieces I fished out pretty much just melted in my mouth. Whatever - I feel like I just ate a meal fit for a king. I had to get up twice and putter around, to distract myself from eating too fast. But it went down great! I just had to share. That bit of yogurt was the first thing I've had in a month with a consistency thicker than milk or Water, and that feels like a HUGE victory!

Post your daily routine for food.

I love that you're on your feet all day. That can only help/speed up your weight loss. I agree that 600-700 is not enough calories for you a) because you're a guy, and because you put out so much energy during the day. With the Protein shakes as Snacks I would think you would be taking in more calories. I would try to find a shake that has twice the calories in, perhaps, the same volume of liquid or a little more if you can't drink it all. I imagine, since you're working, your shakes are pre-packaged. I know there are some larger/higher calorie shakes out there....or maybe you should try to get down 1.5 or two shakes for snacks. When I have time to use the powdered stuff I use Body Fortress Super Advanced whey Protein Drink. Two scoops of that and 8oz nonfat mile or milk sub will give you almost 600 good/lean protein calories = added energy/strength as well as healthy weight loss. As you are on your feet all day - you are surely burning those snacks and could use more to sustain you. As I'm single and don't cook/create meals (hence, creature of habit) lol, I do the repeat thing also. As such, I've been googling stage 2 & stage 3 bariatric meal ideas and have found some interesting stuff. I still don't know if I'm going to "prepare" anything, but there are ideas out there. You can even add "low or no cooking" meal ideas which may allow you to do a weeks worth of prep on your days off. Try adding 1/4c low fat cottage cheese and/or greek yogurt to your meals also as they are lean/good protein sources. -

I am in Greece at the moment and am surprised by how much protein focused items that are available in the supermarkets. I am having some delicious protein yogurts that are way better than at home. I don't do shakes but there are masses of them here too. Good quality brands too. I am sure that France will be the same. You will get good soups like consommé and, fish and stews. Omelettes, eggs cheese and milk are great go to foods. Enjoy yourself Sent from my Lenovo TB-J606F using BariatricPal mobile app -
I was banded on 7/11/08 and have not had a fill yet either. I am also tired of eggs. I have started eating greek style yogurt as it has more protein than regular yogurt. I doctor it up with fruit and/or flavored Torani sugar free syrups. It seems to keep me full for a few hours.

I do A LOT of greek yogurt too!!! I mix in some blueberries or raspberries and some splenda...it really is yummy!! Funnything...I go by Amybee all the time...and I went to ASU...just thought it was sort of a coincidence!

Soup recommendations?

Bone broth is really good for you! As far as a little but if something warm, Trader Joe's has low sodium choices that are yummy. You could add some Greek yogurt to it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I haven't had surgery yet, but just from past diets, when I have cravings I just try to make a healthy version of that food. A few examples Tater Tots- Baked Cauliflower Tots (A lot of the recipes have bread crumbs and cheese- I just use egg whites to bind and and garlic and herbs to season) Cheesecake- Greek Yogurt cheese Cake with an Almond or Hazelnut Crust - Basic quantity for a simple greek yogurt cheesecake is 1 cup greek yogurt to 1 egg- I usually split this in half or fourths. Bake for 40 min @ 350. For the crust just blend up some nuts and or rolled oats in a food processor. Cheeseburger - use lean meat- mushroom for bun For ice cream- use almond milk and make a "frosty" Things like that!
