This is super normal. I'm 3 months out and still have sluggish days. At 1 month post op you're body is still using energy to heal. It gets better.

Thanks for explaining...I need basic cooking lessons...and a smaller crockpot for next year (there'll be on 3 of us left if DD finds a job after college). I'll put that on my wish list. Thanks!

Like every other kitchen tool, a great deal depends on how it's used. If you have the right amount of moisture to cook the meat, you can really soften up a tougher cut. However, if you overcook without that necessary moisture, you'll end up trying to swallow the equivalent of an old leather shoe, strings and all. My main problem was that I had a huge old crock pot made to feed a large family that would hold six quarts. Trying to cook the much smaller amount I needed for only two diners wasn't working. I never thought it was possible to burn chicken in a crock pot until that day. I now have a tiny 3 quart crock pot that does very well for just Dante and I. I'll reserve that big crock pot for when I make chili, spaghetti sauce, and Pot Liquor Stew.

Ok, I've read about people going back to work as soon as the next day. My doctor even said most people go back in a week. Well, I returned to work after 2 weeks in part at the insistance of my bosses one who is a urologic surgeon the other a Pharm D. I had alot of trouble the first weeking getting out of bed or a chair but I have a back problem and with the adomen cut I needed someone or something to pull up on. Plus I was very weak. Apparently even a little pain med holds on to me for a while and makes my mind very cloudy. I spoke like a drunk. Anyway, I went back on July 14, and left about 30 minutes early. I was so tired I couldn't sleep. I did much better today and I made sure I started my day with a protein drink to help with my energy. I had an abnormal liver biopsy with my band and I saw the liver specialist on Monday. He ran some additional blood tests so I will know more later. Overall I feel good. I still need a nap about 2 pm everyday but I'm thinking it may be due to low sugar so today I drank some juice and I didn't get sleepy. Before the band I was always hungry and was embarrased to eat until I was full. It is absolutely liberating not to be a slave to hunger anymore. I love not ever feeling hunger! I do feel thirst but hunger is gone, and without the hunger, I can lose the weight. I wish I had done this years ago!

I am just over two weeks out from surgery, and I get so hungry at times it makes me feel almost ill. Yep, physical hunger, not head hunger. I still have head hunger, but I am trying to ignore that demon. Anyway, I caved. I just had what I think to be a cup of tortilla Soup, soggy tortilla strips, rice and chicken included. Unbelievably, I still feel some growling in my big tummy. And I wish I could say that was the only solids I have had but it isn’t. Though in very small, chewed-to-goo, quantities, I have screwed up a couple of other times in the last couple of days too. I know my food went down though. I feel everything just go “kerplunk” into my big tummy. Especially liquids, of course. I don’t feel anything in my mini-tummy and no problems eating anything. I guess all the swelling has gone down. I have no restriction that I can tell. I expected this, of course, but not so soon. What have I done? Did I just totally screw something up? Could I have done damage? It seems like everyone else does so well on their post-op diets. I feel like a heel. Help? In other fantastic news, however, it feels great to burp big again. Yea!<O:p</O:p OK, I am off to drink some Water or something. Thanks.

Most post-op diets follow the below schedule: Week one-two: Full liquids (some surgeon's require Clear Liquids for one week or part of one week). Full liquids for me included low-fat yogurt without any chunks of fruit or seeds, broths, Lipton cup of Soup cream of chicken, Protein drinks, milk, 100% fruit juice diluted 50%. Week Three: pureed foods- anything you can blend to the consistency of baby food. Still no foods with chunks and no solids. Week Four: Mushies- soft foods. eggs, oatmeal, grits, tuna salad. Week Five +: Slowly start adding normal foods to diet, paying attention to feeling satisfied. Keep in mind that the diet is to make sure your band settles properly. The band is sutured in at the top of the stomach and so the diet is used to prevent the stomach from churning (something it does when you eat solid foods). For the safety of your band and future health, you want to follow your post-op guidelines to a T so you don't cause any issues out of the gate.

Just freaking great!!!!! Hubby wants to go to the Southwestern Beer and Picnic Festival in Scottsdale Arizona this week. Grrrrr, 3 weeks banded and he wants me to watch him taste test all kinds of beer and food... while I do what? ((sigh)) but he is darn good to me, so I guess I will just go for the exercise of walking around. (they also have a Absolut Vodka taste testing tent there, is that okay for bandsters?) Good news is that the food tasting are very small portions. Bad news is that if I get sick I won't really know what did it. Oh, who am I kidding? I am eating whatever right now with no issues at all. Man, that first fill can't come fast enough!

Port Discomfort When Bending Over
sandradee0124 replied to StormRoyale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its pretty new for you. Give yourself more time to heal and recover. Check with your doctor, but I was told not to do any core or lower body exercises until 6 weeks out. I had that pain too, bad. I stretched something. I actually called the doctor and was told to not push too hard too soon. The pain was about week 3 and went away in about a week. I used the heating pad at night -- that helped as well. Take care! -
Port Discomfort When Bending Over
someuser replied to StormRoyale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm currently 2 weeks out and I have sharp pains around my port when bending over, or even turning my torso. My dr said that I'm still healing and take it easy. He doesn't seem too worried. -
Yay congratulations!!! I am 12 weeks out also and have lost 46lbs. Go us!

I have a wonderful 4 year old rottweiler who thinks he is a lap dog. He is well over 100 lbs. I got him from the local OSPCA. He had been adopted out twice before and returned. As soon as my dh or I sit down he jumps up and sprawls across our legs. He loves my grandchildren (3 and 1) and lets them crawl all over him. Even lets the 3 year old ride him . Austin pretends he is a cowboy and Yoda is his horse. All my rottie needed was lots love. Not an aggressive bone in his body. We have had him for 2 wonderful years and cant imagine life without him. -
I'm 2.5 weeks out of surgery and my doc says I can resume Vitamins and supplements. However, I'm a little hesitant because a couple of my pills are kinda big. My metformin 1000mg is the largest. Then I have fish oil liquid gels, etc. Now obviously I can cut the pills but then they have sharp edges. Also I can crush and I can have liquid versions but they taste awful. The pills are easy. And considering all my other energies directed toward diet and recovery, I'd like to have a break and just down the pills. So, any dangers or problems going for the pills? Any stories about going back to pills out there? Thanks in advance. __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com

I have after my first fill. I have had 3 so far on english muffin and then again on chicken. Need to chew these more or forego althogher. Well I won't forgo chicken. If it's mosit, or in soup or has sauce on it, then no problem. Still must take small bites and chew well. The PB is very uncomfortable, but it came pretty fast. Some of it would come up, then still some pressure/pain, then I take a small sip of water and that seems to give it the needed fluid boost to help it come up.

Question Regarding Size (Xpost)

Tiff, thank you so much for you words of wisdom. I have pretty much read all of the threads on this board, and am very impressed by your journey. You sure have been through it all. I am hoping that my journey is less eventful. I am leaning towards the single procedure. I have 3 y/o twins and an 8 y/o, so less down time is better for me. I am also going to ask for a smaller bougie, I just figured it out and 150 cc is about 5 oz, and I think I would like about 4 oz in the end. I also called my insurance, and as long as there is a problem with my band, they should cover it. I currently have a prolapse, so i think that is problem enough! Thanks for getting back to me, I will keep reading along with you all now that I am going to be a sleever!! I'm so excited!! Patti -
Following your surgery journey! Continue to stay strong as you're an encouragement to those like myself still in the pre-surg work up process. Sounds like you're staying the course and being patient with yourself. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I can't begin to tell you how much it helps. I have 3 upcoming appts. this week. Will continue to follow .... take care and have a great up-coming week.

Advice/Help Appreciated: Is this normal? 9 Weeks PO
Loz77 replied to Loz77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey MsMocie and catwoman7, Thanks for your replies! I was given 5L of PlasmaLyte and 3 bags of potassium before the anaesthetist would put me to sleep yesterday. Unfortunately but fortunately, they found nothing to explain why I feel this way........although today I’ve felt better.......but then again I always do a bit after receiving fluids. I try to keep on top of it but the fullness and nausea hinders me and I get back into this viscous circle. I just want to be my old self again! MsMocie, has was your GP visit? catwoman7, I appreciate your thoughts, it’s good to know I’m not alone! L x -

my whole abdomen was LOUD for a week after surgery. however, nothing really happened in the diarrhea department until day 8 post-op. guess I was a little backed up. just try to stay on top of your pain in general, taking a reliever every 4-6 hrs and sip slowly. better safe than sorry! good luck and i hope you feel better! -
Soft Food Diet Suggestions Please :)
AliveAgain replied to bella143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Laughing Cow cheese is also good, some non/low-fat Greek yogurt, small curd cottage cheese (w/ a little unsweetened applesauce, like 1tbsp), SF pudding made with 2% milk (you can add protein powder!). I could only do a single soft poached eggs at two weeks, and I'm still turned off by canned tuna and chicken. I also made a roasted cauliflower mash (any recipe online works) and added protein powder, it was pretty tasty. -
Hi exoticheart. Thanks for your reply. I haven't been told by anyone NOT to worry about blood clots, lol. That's why I asked how long after a surgery can one take that off their list of things to worry about. I'm glad you posted the info. I'm sure that it's not going to help much since surgery is in a week and 3 days, but after what you said, tomorrow I will not be smoking any more. I have a 7 year old that will be waiting for me to come home to him and take care of him so I'll do whatever I can to cut my risks down. Tiffykins, thanks for the info. I forgot about the ROSE procedure for RNY patients, great idea to post there!! Hope to hear from some more of you all!! God Bless! Krystal

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor surgery June 23rd!!!

Hi Fiona---yes I will answer any questions you have!! The sweet spot is just something you know when you get there...for me I get full after eating a very small amount---maybe 1/2 cup. I cannot overeat anymore---it is even hard for me to overeat icecream!! Not that I eat a lot of tha tthese days...but as an occasional treat. IN the first few months of my surgery I could eat anything, sandwiches, Cookies, etc. I really had to diet a lot and really watch my calories. Now, I still watch what I eat, but I don't worry too much if I eat something a little unhealthy because I can only eat a little. With each fill I was a little more restricted--but it was n't until the 5th fill that I really felt restriction and then the 6th fill was my sweet spot. If you are filled too much you may not be able to keep any foods or liquids down. You may throw up a lot, etc. I do throw up sometimes, but I just have to be very consious of my eating. Hi Gettinginshape! Congrats on the weight loss thus far. I love Dr. Fielding. I go to the dinners he puts on every couple of months--so much fun!! I do exercise. I go to the gym 4-5 days per week for 1 1/2 hours each day. I do about 40 mins cardi o and then strength training. I still don't love it but I do it anyway. I started exercising about 6 months after banding. I just wasn't motivated before then. Good luck to everyone! -

Hi Patsy. I was banded 4 days ago and am happy to answer any questions. I am going pretty good so far. I am in Australia - 33 years old with 3 kids. I am in surprisingly little pain. In fact I have decided to go back to work earlier than planned (tomorrow). Vomiting happens I know. But what was different is that before at the first sign I'd throw up once, wait an hour do it again and maybe an hour later once more. (I'm talking stomach flu here.) Since being banded at hour one I'd feel ill but not produce anything at hour 2 the same thing; no vomit, I'd feel worse. At hour three I violently spilled the entire contents of my stomach. Sex happened when it felt better than it hurt. About the end of week 2. My daughter was 5 and I told her leading up the surgery that I wasn't going to be able to carry her. I gave her extra pick ups and we had a ceremonious one last carry. She got it later when I said, "remember I can't carry you now?" The last super thing held no appeal for me because I knew and now KNOW that there isn't a thing out there I can't put in my mouth now. So I just tried to get the nutrition I needed. As for your insurance and self pay questions, I'm clueless. And I'd not stick my stuff on my insurance's website. If you need to track you info, create a word document or something and do it that way. Just one girl's opinion.

Just a toddler taking the first baby steps
sandibly posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello, I just joined and wanted to introduce myself to you. I am a 42 year old wife and mother of 4 teenagers. I am now approx 125lbs overweight. And I am finally ready to admit for the first time in 20 years. I can't do this by myself. Looking back on one of my old journals about 3 years ago, I actually started this process of possible bariatric surgery to help me with my Quest for better health. I had the consultation scheduled, but after a month i had lost 8lbs on my own. so i called and canceled. well, i am now at least 50lbs heavier than i was 3 years ago. so what will happen to me in 3 more years? will the weight keep increasing?? For the past 3 years i've had asthmatic type symptoms that landed me in the hospital, this past year i was also in for stomach problems, i've been dealing with high bloodpressure for the past 5 years, now my knees are bothering me so much it is slowing down my exercise schedule. I have a family history of obesity and complications. 3 out of 5 brothers had or have had 150-200lbs. to loose at one given time. 3 of my brothers are type II diabetics. My Sister has at least 50lbs to loose. My dad died at age 52 from a 4th heart attack, my mom died at age 58 being at least 150lbs over weight.... let me be honest with myself......... this doesn't look really good for my future!!! I've tried weight watchers, atkins, personal dietitions, personal trainers, and although i can loose weight...... i seem to stall at the 20lb mark :scared2:! So on June 10th i go to the class at Woman's Magee Hospital in Pittsburgh Pa. and I'll go from there..... i am scared and excited at the same time, I want to hurry up and slow down............ I hope i find support and information on this website. thanks for listening
