    It was NOT gas pain.

I has a similar experience but mine was a pulmonary embolism in my lung. Excruciating painful and took them too long to diagnose on my opinion. Spent and addition 10 days in hospital. Terrible. But no surgery regrets

    Quest Bars

Can I just take a minute to rave about Quest Bars? Cause I LOOOVE Quest Bars. I know, I know, not everyone shares my affection - some don’t care for the taste, or maybe they don’t dig the texture. 20 grams of protein? Yes please! 15 grams of fiber? Yes please! CHOCOLATE?! Hell yes! If you haven’t given Quest Bars a try, what are you waiting for? *hint* take them out of the wrapper and warm in the microwave for 10 seconds- HEAVEN!

    Loss Reports

First, the obligatory disclaimer: remember that everyone is different and will have different weight loss rates. Age, starting weight, genetics, height, complications all factor in to each person's weight loss rates. Second, a thought: Instead of just total units lost, probably a more telling statistic would be maybe BMI (which factors in height), or Percentage of Total Body Weight Lost (but this doesn't take into account lean muscle changes...), or Percentage of Inches Lost in certain areas of body measurements (but everyone carries their weight differently...) Lastly: Anyhoo, with that said, we are human after all, and we can't help but compare and be curious: ** Note that I am on the vertically-challenged side of 5' 1" ** Highest weight: 235.0 lbs (10-Oct-2018) BMI: 44.4 (morbidly obese) Surgery weight: 223.2 lbs (24-Oct-2018) Today's weight: 148.8 lbs (26-Mar-2019, 5 months + 2 days post op) BMI: 28.1 (overweight) % of Body Weight Lost: 36.7% (-86.2 lbs) % of inches lost chest: 25.0% (-12.0") % of inches lost waist: 28.7% (-12.5") % of inches lost hips: 22.2% (-11.0") ** Yes, I keep track of EVERYTHING. You should see my spreadsheet **

    ❤MARCH 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I can give you three right now without any straining, while I lay in my bed this fine March Morming! #4 A Happy Ch8ldhood memory would have to be sitting on my Daddy's shoulders at parades. It seems like my little town had parades often, Easter, Memorial Dayn 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, a Thanksgiving/Christmas plus anytime,a Local son or Daughter did anything noteworthy. I felt like I was an Empress, or at least Princess of the World up high when I could watch everything. It gets boring looking at adults rest ends all the time. #5-A friend who really knows me. That would be my friend Robin. When I finally got up the courage to tell someone I was diagnosed as high functioning Autistic ( Aspergers). After years of feeling and being told You aren't right, or defective, it was both scary and liberating to get an official diagnosis. And Robin was the second person I admitted/ came out to. First one said " Funny , You don't look that retarded!" And it is not at all the same thing. Robin smiled sweetly and said " I have known for years, I just figured You didn't want t9 talk about it but that someday you would!" I cried a little, she hugged me,because at that moment I knew somebody knew me as I was and loved me any way! And what a Beautiful Gift that was for me. And lastly what would I tell the 2018 Frustr8? Hang tough, stay striving towards your target. That seminar you attended on March 9th 2018 will bear you something wonderful . O.S.U. will want and accept you as a Bariatric Candidate. And everyone on every level will be kind and welcoming. I know you are impatient and worried you will never receive your surgery, after all you have been trying since August 2015, put that Evil Former Program and the heartaches it caused you behind you, you may even grow to Forgive the Rotten Ex-Surgeon that turned you down after going through his program not once but twice. Oh you may never totally forget but you'll forgive him enough for closure. And as you finish up requirements this one requested you still will feel wanted and incrediblely like you've "come, home "after a l9ng journey away, maybe similar to the Prodigal Son in the Bible. And in due time you will meet your new surgeon, Bradley J Needleman MD, even his name sounds impressive and this is a Cookie who does know his stuff, he wouldn't have become Chief of Bariatric Medicine and Metabolic Weight Loss without it. He will not find you undeserving, will believe you have the commitment to see it through and best of all He Will Not Find You Too Old. And on September 5th at 7 AM you will receive the surgery you are seeking. And he will not leave huge wounds on you, you will even peek when you wake up to make sure you had surgery after all, because until that moment you still will fear somehow the surgery will be aborted. And your recovery will start out good, but when trials come you will prevail over them. Oh it will be an odd type recovery but as the saying goes YOU HAVE TO BE AN ODD NUMBER TO BE NUMBER ONE! And you didn't start this undertaking to be run- of - the mill but rather outstanding. And you will lose the weight Cabbage Water, diets and all the diet pill interventions. could not do for you. And You are worthy of love for you are incredibly strong. I will be waiting in 2019 until you rejoin me and we display an United front to the outside world! So up on your pony Cowgirl, this is a race you can win!😜👍🌈

  10. I had gastric bypass on 12/02/17. My start weight at consult was 384, my surgery weight was 369. I now weigh between 182-185. This was my surgeons goal, I may try for 175. I am 5’10” for reference. I have gone from a 28 in pants and 4x in shirts to a 10/12 in pants and usually a medium now in tops. I agree with above posters, I do get hungry but it takes much less to feel satiated and although I do still get cravings for things, it is easier to not eat those things now as I know they make me feel poorly, both physically and mentally.

    The dreaded gas

Soooo.... the gas pain was bad the first day right after coming out of anesthesia.... but the worst of it was two things: I started my period the morning of surgery and I am a HEAVY bleeder and 2 the pain from the inscisions was pretty much unbearable. I hardly walked at all while in the hospital. I had to use a commode to go to the bathroom and I couldn't even wipe myself I was in so much pain. It was an absolute nightmare. I cried for days because I could not believe what I had done and the pain was just so bad. I'm into week 3 and things are better. I can finally lay on my side without a lot of pain. I am desperate for real food. I'm sick to death of protein shakes. Overall SO FAR.. I would rate my experience a 3/4 out of 10. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    The dreaded gas

If it makes any pre-oppers feel better... I didn't have much gas pain at all. Slight discomfort like you'd get if constipated, but that was it really. I woke up from the surgery (when I came back from 'going under') feeling like I'd been hit by a bus but was asleep again 10 minutes later (once I'd spoken to my husband) then I woke again 4 hours later and insisted on getting up out of bed... had a total hot flush... but that was it... was up and walking etc, easy on the first day and felt pretty much normal (though faint from lack of food) by day 2. I know not everyone is so lucky!!! I don't know if it was because I was super super strict about my pre surgery diet or I just got very lucky or both. A year later and I get excruciating indigestion that I am trying to solve. So don't hate me- those of you who had the gas post op! My
  15. Hope to be joining you soon, made it foward from 26-28W to 22-24 and found a clearance sweater in 20 that didn't look like I was poured in and overflowing. And I figure then I can go into Jr's 19, that's their size L at Wally World. See for an Ample Sample I am truly built like an Oversized Jr, not as busty(C) as the average Miss size, most of my sisters- in- weight are D,DD and above.

And Mikeyy is correct, a ball park figure is 3-4 hours, could be,less, robotic are among the best and quickest but you surgeon will take just as long as it takes to get it done rights My RnY surgery was at 7AM , I was done, awake, and in my own room by 10:15. 17. Hi 👋🏻 just wondering who is having their operation on April 10th to share the journey.
  18. Hi, I am not feeling any restriction after 10 months (RNY 2018 - had sleeve 2014), this happened directly after I had the flu where I ate ice cream and I had soda. I usually eat 3 ounces per meal 2x a day and muscle milk for breakfast. After the flu 3 weeks ago I just don't feel any restriction whereas I could eat and feel satisfied, now I think I can just continue to eat more and have noticed I am now eating more than before if I don't measure. I don't have health insurance now so I can't see my Dr.

    What's Your Caloric Sweet Spot?

Interesting comments above . I am 3 months out and averaging about 10-15 lb loss a month in the last month , but I am am only about 15 lbs from my goal and I was a lower BMI. I can’t do 500-600 a day most days , as I am very active , spin 5x a week and get 10k steps . Seem to be settling at the 800-1000 calories range with 1-2 protein drinks a day and at least one yogurt in order to get protein grams in ... hard to eat enough protein honestly
  20. Hi all, I had the gastric sleeve done on 2/19/19. I have been having complications since. I want to know if anyone has had a similar experience. I'm having serious buyers remorse. After my sleeve I had severe nausea and vomiting issues. I informed my surgeon's office and was told to sit up more and move around. I felt initially it was working. A few days after my surgery I got a call that my stomach that was removed tested positive for H. Poly. The doctor ordered a course of strong antibiotics. My nausea skyrocketed. Now just 4 weeks after surgery I have had 2 week long admits with really no resolution. I went through test that say my esophagus lower valve will not squeeze fluid or food into my stomach. Though the actual stomach is fine. I have an immune disorder called Polymyositis that the doctor believes is the problem but prior to the surgery my esophagus was working fine. I'm not getting any answers on what can be done to promote my esophagus to start working again. My surgeon is suggesting TPN or a feeding tube as I am unable to hold anything down. Neither of which I want. Has anyone had a similar situation?
  21. I'm so excited, I'm doing the happy dance! I just got a message from my pulmonologist's office letting me know the results of my in-home sleep study last week. I've had Obstructive Sleep Apnea for 3 years and using a CPAP. I had gastric sleeve surgery 12/11/18 and have lost 35 pounds since surgery/50 pounds overall and so I felt like maybe I no longer needed the CPAP. She said the results are that I NO LONGER NEED A CPAP! I don't have to sleep with that thing strapped to my face anymore! The weight loss did it! Now this one deserves a happy dance too, but I didn't get an exciting phone call about it . . . I also no longer have GERD since my sleeve surgery 3.5 months ago! I've had GERD for 10+ years and had it pretty bad in the first couple of weeks after surgery, but now it's gone away completely. Woo-Hoo! Woot-Woot! 🙂

    Severe Gerd?

I had it originally placed in 2005. It slipped in 2014, had it redone and then it slipped again in 2018. Revised to sleeve on 2/18/2019. Other than the slips no other issues that I knew of.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Hey guys, I haven't checked in for while. I hope everyone's doing well. I know I am doing great. I am sticking with the modified Keto and exercise routine. The scale hasn't moved much in the past six week--only down about 5 or 6 pound. However, during that time I lost: 1.5% of my body fat (down to 16.5%); 1.5 inches off my waist; inch off my chest (down to 42 from a 50) and a quarter inch off my neck (down to 16.5" from 18.5" in the fall). My pants size is now a 32, down from a 44 this past summer. I have gone from wearing XXL shirts to M slim fit shirts (sometimes large slim depending on the brand). At this point, I am not really sure how much more weight I am going to be losing. I am ok where I am. Aside from the number on the scale, all of my aesthetic goals have been met (or are very close to being met). More importantly, I just had my 3 month follow up last week. My blood work looks great. My triglycerides are down to a 54 (they were over 450 last summer). My good cholesterol is up three fold to 96. My A1C's have dropped from a 6.3 (with 1000mg of MetFormin and 1.8mg of Victoza) in November to a 5.1 with no medications. As of now, all my nutrional numbers look good and are well within normal ranges, including vitamin D, B12, B6, Calcium, Iron etc. Of course, nutritional deficits can take a while to show up in blood work, so we'll see how they look again in three months. So, far the only downside is that my once very thick hair is thinning a bit. Not loving that, but no one can really tell yet except me (hope it stays that way). I am taking my biotin, but not sure how much it really helps (can't hurt though). I would still trade lush hair for a slim body any day. Anyway, here's a picture from this past weekend (3/23/19):

    Keto diet question

I disagree with with Dabeyhive and RickM's comments above. Sure, keto isn't for everyone, but it's great for many people. I love the fact that it gives me some firm rules to follow and it happens to fit my eating preferences. First, I don't believe Keto is a fad diet at all. It's been around in various forms since the 1920's and became the basis of the original Atkin's diet in the early 1970's. It works very well both for weight loss and general health benefits. The problem is that some people don't really understand the diet or follow it correctly--and that's where people into problems. Following a proper Keto diet doesn't mean you should be chowing down on cheeseburgers without the bun eating bacon with every meal. While cheeseburgers and bacon are not prohibited on Keto, those aren't recommended either. You should stick to things like organic eggs, lean organic meats and wild caught fatty fish (like sockeye salmon). Stay away from fatty meats, since the fat is bad things the animals consumed are stored. You then add healthy fats to your food, like avocado, MCT oil, extra virgin olive oil, ghee etc. The idea is to "prime the pump", so you body burns off its excess glycogen stores and then converts stored fats into ketones for energy. This is important, especially if you're insulin resistant. For me, I am really happy with Keto and I can definitely stay on keto long term. My surgeon and nutritionist are on board with my keto choices. I just had my blood work done after 2 months on Keto and everything was perfect. I am no longer diabetic (A1C dropped from 6.3 on multiple meds to 5.1 on no meds). My triglycerides dropped to 54 (they were 450 this past summer on meds). My cholesterol is 190, but my good cholestrol is 97 (which is outstanding)--so that's good. Some of these may be from the surgery, but diet and exercise are equally critical. I suggest that you don't do keto on your own, but you do with with the guidance of a doctor or nutritionist that has a lot of knowledge about keto. I personally keep my net carbs down to approximately 20g a day and close to a 1:1 ration of fat to protein. At this point, I am 14 weeks post op (99 days). I am eating between 1200-1600 calories a day. Those calories are made up of 45% protein, 45% fat and 10% carbs. The carbs I am consuming are mostly from vegetables--even green veggies have some carbs. I don't eat any bread, starches, potatoes, sugar etc. I avoid high carb fruit, but I am allowed berries. I avoid processed foods to the greatest extent I can. I also work out daily--at a high intensity (and have been since I had all physical restrictions removed 1 month after surgery). I have lost 70 pounds since my highest weigh in. My pants size has dropped from a 44 to a 32. My body fat has dropped from 28% to 16.5%. Weight loss surgery is only a tool (a good one), but I would say it gives you a head start and helps prepare balance your body's hormones and stomach so people like me (morbidly obese, with a trifecta of co-morbidities) can lose weight like a normal person without insulin resistance/diabetes and other issues that get in the way. Once I had those issues, in check the rest of it was up to me--with keto and serious exercise making the big difference in getting me to where I want to be. I'll let my pictures speak for themselves: The was me on July 4, 2018 (weighing around 255-260) : This is me on the day of Surgery (weight 235): This is me on March 23, 2019 (weighing 190): As a 45 year old man with diabetes etc., no way I could have done this without VSG. However, I really believe Keto and exercise (45 minutes moderate to high intensity cardio 5-6 times a week and 1 hour of high intensity weight training 4-5 times a week) have changed my health and my life. I can't imagine going back to the life I had before surgery, nor could I imagine not living a keto lifestyle at this point.
