    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

Interesting!! I am 3 weeks post op and I had hives on my wrist and hand this week. I'm not sure what caused it or why - and thankfully they went away. But what a curious question !

I’m 2 weeks PO sleeve and I’ve had hives for a week and a half. No spotting but very itchy. My mom had sleeve done 3 years ago and said she had the same thing. It could be left over anesthesia, food intolerance, or lack of water consumption!

BariNation is a paid community. Its equal parts forum/social media and education. They have several support groups each week tailed for different needs (pre-op, post-op, regain, men's & women's, etc.), monthly presentations from experts (dieticians, therapists, and so on), and they do live and virtual meet ups. Its much more comprehensive than just a forum and, because its paid, there are ZERO keyboard warriors/internet trolls and everyone in the community is invested.

I got my surgery postponed too and it really hurt. I am terrible at waiting, its been a problem all my life. The hospital had its Bariatric procedures reviewed and I had to wait a extra 5 weeks. What can you do ? Nothing but wait. It passed very slowly. I really feel for you. As every week passed I would torture myself by thinking - I could have been at this stage now ..... ! Have some meals out and take a ways and enjoy every mouthful.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Be grateful it’s only 7 days I would love that! Everyone in our practice has to do the same 2 week liquid diet regardless of starting weight. Good luck you are almost there!!

    Weight gain or standstill

Oh that's because in the hospital they fill you up with tons of water so you don't get dehydrated. Looks like they gave you plenty. It will slowly leave you in the next week or two. Just try and stay off the scales, I know its hard but it does help. You will feel on top of the world when the weight drops but you will get a stall soon too, be prepared. Put ' 3 week stall ' in the search box, it will save you some more worry and disappointment when it happens to you. Keep the faith, this works, it worked for all these others on this forum, you will be fine if you stick fairly close to your recommendations.
  8. Hello! I have had gastric sleeve surgery (2013) and brain surgery to remove a meningioma (8 weeks ago). At the time of bariatric surgery, I was taking lamictal for bipolar. I’m now taking it post-brain surgery for seizures. In other words, I had the same surgeries in the opposite order! You might ask your doctor or pharmacist about getting a short-term script for lamictal that dissolves on your tongue. That’s what my doc gave me back in 2013. I was glad for it because I find lamictal pills to be hard to swallow even on my best days. Good luck! If you did brain surgery, bariatric surgery will be a piece of cake (pun intended)!

    liquid diet :( lol

I have a friend who was sleeved in October. She didn’t do two week liquid diet, and she didn’t give up caffeine. She was 221 lbs at surgery. She has dropped 80 lbs as of today. Her entire procedure was uneventful and her recovery was easy and without incident.

What do you guys think of this video?

Mmmm maybe 3 weeks out is to early to start exercising especially if you are getting pain and discomfort. You have had major surgery.

When did you get back to exercise?

3 weeks out and I was cleared for low impact exercises. I like to do low impact walking exercise videos from growwithjo. I’m not cleared to lift weights until 2 months out which will be April 27. The first two weeks I walked a lot getting almost 10,000 steps each day and I am currently 26 pounds down.

    Too much protein

That’s weird. I just had my 6 week follow up with my dietician and she said min protein is 60g, but she said 90-100g was great. Maybe it’s because I’m also recovering from ACL replacement, but when I said I could get another 20-30 grams in with an extra protein shake a day, she seemed excited. Maybe ask your doctor and see if he/she has an opinion on protein intake and WLS specifically. Or maybe it’s a calories thing. Protein is great but also has calories.

agreed. It also depends on what you're asking. If you're asking how many carbs you should have or post that you're three weeks out and haven't lost any weight in a week, you'll get at least a dozen responses.

    liquid diet :( lol

I too had to do 2 weeks of 3 (clinic-provided shakes a day). But was allowed unlimited coffee tea water as well. The first 1-2 days was a bit of a challenge (esp cuz i hated the vanilla flavour but didn’t mind the chocolate), but by day 3 it was no sweat. In fact, sometime in the second week i went down to 2 shakes a day cuz i refused to drink the vanilla ones anymore (gross). I lost 11.8 lbs by surgery day (but like 8 of those were in the first week). Sone tips that helped the shakes go down easier (for me): —- lots of added water (i probably added 2-3 times the amount the package required. — add a tsp of decaf instant coffee crystals — drink it SUPER COLD — and if u are worried about constipation, a couple tsps of Benefiber. Good Luck! ❤️

    liquid diet :( lol

They technically said no coffee for the first couple weeks lol. But as long as i am getting my water in and not using sugar or creamers with sugar its ok. I just need a little bit in the mornings

Hi Nikki - sorry I've been quiet on here, had a weird few weeks! My original surgery date (10th March) was cancelled as my surgeon got covid, and then my new daye (7th April) has had to be cancelled as I tested positive earlier this week. I now can't have surgery for 7 weeks, so looks like the earliest I'll be in is mid-May. I'm absolutely gutted and having to try and re-set myself! Hope you're doing ok? Did your surgery go ahead as planned?
  20. Can somebody please help me….I’m reading so many different things on revision wls and I’m so confused! I know weight- loss is slower, but it’s been coming off pretty good for me so far (55lbs dwn) since Nov.8th. I’m stalling now for the 2nd week! (Frustrating, but expected). Where the confusing part is how much weight I should expect to loose, my doctor told me I should loose a 100lbs, but my research is stating something in the area of about 60-70lbs, but it’s also stating something about my weight-loss from my previous surgery(btw it was the sleeve). So if I’m to understand correctly I’m only going to loose a total of 100lbs ,including my weight-loss from previous wls? I’m so confused…

    Clear protein drink

Whatever you drink/eat before may be 🤢 after. Any of the chocolate protein drinks I happily swilled before surgery-I still can't even look at now, at 11 weeks after. Finally gave the multi-packs that I had stocked up on away. I bought some protein concentrate to add to water from Amazon. Opened one. The vitamin/chemical smell did me in. It all went in the trash.

    Surgery is scheduled.

Congrats! I know you can not wait to start that 2 week all protein shake diet!

What do you guys think of this video?

So, I left work last night and decided to put some of this to the test. I pulled up a beginner Yoga video to YouTube on the tele - and man, I had to stop it around the 11 minute mark. Yoga is not easy! Tonight my plan is to at least do the same 11 minutes again and maybe make it to 15 minutes. I will say, the stopping point for me was discomfort at my incisions... so being 3 weeks out, that is a huge consideration. My arms; however, were shaking after. I can see based on this attempt that there is progress to be made. Personally, I have always preferred Pilates to Yoga (which I'm sure this doc would approve as it is a stretching and lengthening activity). So maybe tonight I will pull up the trusty 8-min Pilates video on YT and alternate between Pilates and yoga each evening. Slow and steady wins this race.

    March surgery buddies

Hello everyone checking in. So I had my two week follow up yesterday and incisions look good. That left side still hurts a little mainly when I’m sleeping (still can’t get comfortable). I am not on a purée/soft food diet so I’m excited about that. I’m getting more protein in due to those shakes not really agreeing with me so I love to isolate, protein2 drinks and Gatorade w protein in it. My favorite go to meal right now is buffalo chicken dip puréed so good. I have my month follow up in two weeks and I’ll have blood work done to check on everything and my Dr says I should be on a regular diet by then!!! So far I’ve loss 25lbs so we’re moving along. *I had the sleeve done Can’t wait for hear how everyone else is doing?
  25. Hi there I've been taking lamictol 150mg BID for over 20 years for seizure disorder after vrain surgery. I have been seizure free for 16 years. I am having gastric bypass April 6 2022. We did a baseline level and will continue to do a few levels in 2 week intervals. My question is how much is not absirbed if anyone knows? Just a little nervous as it has been controlled so long. Thoughts/suggestions please. Thank you
