    4th Fill

and let me tell you do NOT make the mistake of eating after a fill....last fill I got, that next morning I was going to eat some yogurt so I could take my meds, well the yogurt had small pieces of peaches in them, it got stuck and I was MISERABLE for about 3 hours....I'll never ever do that again....

Can I dump 2 hours after?

When I eat fruit I try to eat a little yogurt or 2 pieces of walnut with it so I have protein and fat mixed with the carbs. If I rarely eat fruit by itself it's only 1 strawberry or a 1/4 cup of blueberries.
  3. You need to fuel your body. Make sure you are getting good carbs before a workout and protein after a workout. If you increase the intensity of your exercise, you need to increase your food intake as well. When I really upped my exercise intensity a couple months post-op, I added a morning snack (between breakfast and lunch) because I found I was STARVING by lunch time. So, I added a reduced fat cheese stick as a morning snack and that really helped. I also added some granola or kashi cereal to my afternoon yogurt for some carbs before my workout (I work out as soon as I get home from work, before dinner).

had adjustable lap- port is hurting

Hi there, new bandsters!! Welcome to Bandlandia! It is true that doctors have a wide range of post-op instructions. My doctor said thick liquids were OK after the first couple of days, and mushy foods after 2 weeks or so. During the 2 weeks I really wasn't hungry, what with the wonderful array of Soups out there. I loved it! Then I went into hummus, soft cheeses, tzatiki, all that yummy stuff you usually put on crackers. I went nuts! To stave off the hungries you really want to push Protein. Thick liquids can be very high in protein--go for bean soups (mush up the beans), egg-drop Soup, and thick chowders. I didn't have any problems with the "solids" in soups like that, especially if they were homemade and could cook for a really long time. And then there are Protein drinks, which really can help. I made my own in a blender with milk, Protein powder, yogurt (regular and frozen), Peanut Butter, and Ovaltine. A big serving of that and you're full for hours! Take it easy and remember not to push yourself or think too much about calories. That will all come later. Just heal!
  5. I'm 10 days post op and I'm eating about 4oz at each meal. I'm currently on full liquids so I'm having things like pureed soups, greek yogurt and watery/pureed oatmeal. I'm able to do the 4oz comfortably and don't feel too full - perhaps I could do a little more but don't want to push it.
  6. You're not alone. It happens to me with drinks. And can be loud! I didn't do much broth, everything was too salty so I ate a lot of applesauce. I'm having a yogurt now and it's going bubble bubble. I'm 4 weeks out, can't speak to the does it go away part.
  7. Just curious to see how many you guys are consuming for weight loss - I am at 800-1000 and the scale isn't moving! What is a typical menu? I am usually having: B - 1 scrambled egg w/ half slice of LF cheese, 1/2 cup of blueberries and half slice of whole grain "small-loaf" toast. S - 1 cup of 1% milk L - 1 cup tuna salad made w/ LF mayo, celery, onions, salt and pepper and other half of whole grain toast S - Activia yogurt and almonds D - Grilled tilapia and brown rice made w/ chicken broth and steamed green Beans I occasionaly have a treat - only IF I am under my 800 calories for the day! And I am walking 20-30 minutes at least 3 times a day...what are you guys doing? I did not know it would be this hard.

    new breakfast ideas

Breakfast and I are a little rough unless I wait til later in the morning, so oatmeal or yogurt are my favorites. If I am eating later a breakfast burrito chewed well and made with a corn tortilla are really good.

Grocery Shopping Carts and Being Nosey

Haha!!! I dont really pay attention to others carts but I usually stock up on things like yogurt, string cheese, etc....the cashier always says "someone likes yogurt" before the band they used to say "im coming home with you" of course my cart then was filled with bad food.
  10. Thanks to your menu I am having a much easier time meeting my Protein requirements. Everyday I have 1 Pure Protein shake for 23 grams, 1 atkins Protein Bar for 10 grams, I greek yogurt for 14 grams and a string cheese for 7 grams. All of these are easy to get down and =54 grams. This does not include dinner. Keeping these 4 items the same has helped simplify and ensure I am meeting those requirements at least. Still need to work on liquids and a better timing of Vitamins.
  11. Hi. I'm Tracy and I will be banded on the 16th. I am from the Philippines and I'm still in college. Classes will start on the 26th of May. I'm thinking of being absent for a week since only orientations and other little things happen on the first week to have more time to recover. Any tips? I'm excited as hell! I went to the grocery a while ago and got myself a month's supply of soups, yogurts, crackers, milks and juices. Any tips? What should I bring along with me to the hospital? coz I'll be staying for 3-4 days? My doctor will not release me if I'm feeling back to normal.
  12. It took me 2 1/2 monts until I could handle salad-- it hurt my belly earlier than that-- I was on a lot of yogurt, soups, tuna, eggs at 18 days out.. They told me 700- 800 calories ... which some days I am over some under.. I have re-introduced shakes because I don't feel I am getting enough protein.. LOVE bean or pea soup though!
  13. Hi everyone, This is my first post. I had surgery on 11/14/16 and have wondered if my weight is coming down fast enough, and if not, how I could increase the amount of weight loss or should have concerns. I know that losing weight more slowly could give my skin a better chance of keeping up with my changing body, but I can't help but wonder if I am doing something wrong. I already know I can increase my Water intake (getting 32-64oz water per day). I'm in my 3rd stall and noticed it happened when I started eating "regular" food again (after the puree phase). The stalls drive me nuts, especially since they seem to be lasting from 3-7 days. At six weeks post-op, I am at 303.2 pounds, down from a day-of-surgery weight of 334, or an average weight loss of 5.13 pounds per week. I have read using multiple sources that weight loss varies between 5 to 15 pounds per week. I am wondering: what is the difference between those that lose 5 pounds per week versus those that lose 15 pounds per week? If your rate of loss is faster than mine, what are you eating, how much water are you getting per day, how much are you really exercising per day/week, and do you have any other medical factors that might be contributing to your faster weight loss? Also, I have a few other questions: At this phase of my diet, I'm supposed to be eating 3 meals a day and not drinking Protein shakes anymore. Is anyone out there still relying on shakes to get the additional protein? I feel like 3 meals a day doesn't give me the minimum 60 grams of protein I'm supposed to have per day. Also, I have started weight lifting and believe I need more protein than my diet specifies. I noticed I had a tough time with ham, barbecue pork, and asparagus...I get a tight feeling in my pouch even if I chew these down to nothing. Is the pain I feel really the food trying to pass into my small intestine? Seems like some foods like greek yogurt go down really easily while others, no matter how much you chew, cause discomfort. Knock on wood: nothing has made me throw up yet, but at times I feel a little sick when I haven't eaten in a while. I have not experienced dumping syndrome yet. I am wondering if the daily probiotic I am taking is helping reduce the risk of adverse effects. Are you taking a probiotic? Have you noticed any benefits? Sorry everyone...I know this is a long post, but since it's my first, I have so much on my mind. Thank you, Andre
  14. Hey everyone, I am starting to plan my blenderized diet and I wanted to get your oppinion on things. I went to the store today and bought some fish, like sole, cod and I also bought some king crab legs. From what I gather these things are ok to have on the blenderized diet right? As long as they are easy to mush with a fork, right? Also, I bought mashed potato, summer squash and zucchini, cottage cheese, yogurt, chicken. These things are all ok right? Another question, when I do make this stuff, do I have to put everything in the blender so its soft or can I just cook the broil the fish and eat it like that. I know the chicken will have to be blended, but what about the fish and like the roasted summer squash and zucchini? Sorry guys, but I offically start the blenderized diet tomorrow. So, I want to know before I start eating that stuff. All of your help will be great! Thank you!:confused2:

    Finally...november 6Th Sleevers!

Hi Denise your still on soft foods? I am currently on Phase III one week from Phase 4. Currently I still drink my Protein shakes. Breakfast, I will either do a Protein shake, or 1 egg scrambled soft with cheese and a morning star sausage pattie (10gm of protein). I try to get in milk as well since it's 8 gm of protein. If I have to have a snack I do yogurt. lunch I stick to any type of fish, chicken salad, turkey burger etc... dinner same thing but I try to incorporate a veggie like broccoli, green Beans, squash, sweet potato etc.. Good luck on your journey it gets easier and the sooner you start eating regular food the more your sleeve will start to tolerate it and the better you will be. Also the quicker you will start loosing, currently I am doing about 1 to 2lbs a week and i am happy with that.

    Breakfast!

There are no breakfast foods that I can tolerate. I eat yogurt and blueberries every morning. Breakfast foods used to be my favorite....

    Protein ideas?

Remember turkey too! I get thick-sliced rotisserie turkey breast from the deli, wrap it around a piece of swiss and dip it in balsamic vinegar for a quick snack. I also make my own "protein shots" with a sugarfree pudding cup and add a scoop of chocolate protein powder. You can do this with yogurt too. Also, edamame (soybeans) are high in protein, as are beans like a previous poster stated. Another favorite snack is apple slices dipped in peanut butter...mmmm....
  18. Hi eveyyone, I'm post sleeve (almost 3 years out). I'd love to hear from post sleevers & find out what everyone is eating these days. There seems to be a lot of focus on pre surgery & immediately thereafter as you feel that's when you need the most support. I beg to differ. At this point, most of us know what we're supposed to do, what we're supposed to be eating, how much, etc... BUT, we don't talk much about how those lousy bad habits creep back in during the most stressful times of our lives, and how we can handle it. I was laid off 6 weeks ago. Yup, right before the holidays. By now I understand that stress is my trigger for making bad choices. Isn't it for most of us? :-( Nonetheless, I've made many. I now find myself with an additional 10 pds & I can feel it & see it. I still remember after I had lost all the weight, how I "swore" I would never let myself go up more than 2 or 3 pds. Humm, what happened? Let's focus on the positive & talk about going back to basics. What is everyone eating to maintain their weight loss? What's a day in your life look like? Do you have a favorite recipe? Do you have restrictions on what you can eat? I find that I am now much more lactose intolerant, so my original "go-to" foods like greek yogurt is now not such a good idea Come on, share your favorite foods / recipes.. And gooo.........

    24 Hours Post Op

It will be even better tomorrow!!! : ) I had 4oz yogurt & 6oz of Protein shake, yeah!! Dr gave me an hour by hour schedule and I can finally do it.
  20. I lost weight on the pre-op diet, but a week out from surgery I've only lost a few more. I'm down 17lbs, 13 of which was on the pre-op diet. 4 since surgery a week ago. And honestly I lost more than that the first few days (dehydration I imagine) and gained a pound or tow in the last two days. Should I assume this is just my body reacting to surgery, swelling, etc? In the first few days I was home my rings fit perfectly for the first time in a long time, but now they are tight again. I had a hernia repair too and had a lot of trouble getting fluids down do to swelling in the esophogus...they put me on some medication that helped and today is the first day I'm going to hit my 65oz of Fluid. The last two days it was around 40-45oz, and before that under 30oz. I got 60 grams of Protein the last two days, 40 the day before that, and less before that. Was on clear fluids the first 3 days. Now on full fluids, including cream Soups, yogurt, sugar free pudding, and of course shakes (they don't go down so well) and Protein powder added to things. Carbs have been between 39 and 65. Calories have been around 350-500, today I'm higher though, around 650. I was losing well on 800-1000 a day in pre-op, it seems crazy that I'm losing less now while eating less.
  21. Isopure (over ice is great), yogurt without fruit, all kinds of soup broths (homemade are the best) try my lentil soup recipe in the recipe section here. I added applesauce in the second week as well as nibbled on Baby Bel low fat cheese until it was liquid in my mouth. Actually Cornell Weight Loss center has bariatric clears only while their sleeve patients are in the hospital and they go home with a diet of soft and pureed foods. So I had a copy of that and incorporated some of their suggestions into my diet after the second week at home. Hope this helps, Donna:001_cool:

When can I start having dairy products?

I started eating dairy products when I was on full liquids. As long as the texture is appropriate for the phase you are on I am not aware of any specific prohibition against dairy (unless you are lactose intolerant). Greek yogurt and cheese are pretty much staples for me.

    2days post op

I didn't eat after surgery. I was sleeved 12/7. My program calls for a week of clear liquids, then two weeks of full liquids until I even get to try soft and purée foods. I don't even get yogurt until the 28th. A liquid diet after surgery seems fairly par for the course, but every program differs. My program calls for 64 ounces of fluids per day, which includes three protein shakes while in the liquid stage, and two protein shakes per day in the soft/purée stage. Total protein at least 60 grams. I think as long as you try to get your protein in, and make sure you're getting enough water, you should be fine. I haven't really consumed anything but protein, water, Powerade zero, and jello for a week, and I was just able to add tomato and strained cream soups two days ago.

    Breakfast ideas

I like to keep it simple. 1. Cottage cheese (or yogurt) and fruit 2. black beans and sweet potato 3. Spinach and banana smoothie
  25. My Doc gave me the okay to progress to soft foods, after a few days of pureed. There is no way! I hurt soooo bad, what does gas feel like? My stocmach gets hard no matter what I eat, I can feel it. Past 3 days I've eaten very little, less than 2 oz of malt o meal, or 2 oz of yogurt and it just HURTS. I stand in the hot shower and I can feel my stomach slowly relax. What are the stomach spasms? I burp and it seems to relieve a little but my ribs hurt and all the down, like I can feel it in my intestines?? surly not! I can drink fine, which is what I've been doing to keep hydrated-Water water water, but add any food and the pain starts. Last week I had mashed potatos and such without this much pain....my period started and I have intense pains with it too, (endo, but I can't take any meds yet I don't think so I'm dealing with that) but could it be messing with my stomach? I'm not sure what is going on!! How does gas feel and how does stomach spasms feel for everyone else?
