How are the banded Notorious Novembers???
DivaStyleCoach replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good morning and Happy New Year to all Notorious Novembers! Scheduled for my first fill tomorrow morning - I'll check in and let y'all know how it goes. I am at a 'Center of Excellence' bariatric office (affilated with Yale University) so I'm hoping for an easy appointment with no (or very little) pain. The holidays weren't great - not bad, but not great. I did make it to the gym 6 times during my 'off' period. My office shut down from Dec 23 through Jan 5. I also did some snow shoveling and other stuff to try and keep busy. Had a NSV (non scale victory) on Jan 2nd. Went dancing with my hubby (swing band we love) and at the end of the night, even after dancing my shoes off - no knee pain! This despite the fact that I was wearing high heels and we danced a LOT. Looking forward to a fill, though - I feel like I've gained a few pounds since before the holiday and I definately don't want to go back to where I was pre-surgery! -
Gingerbug, A year does make a big difference. I do not see my weight loss on myself except when I look at pictures, then I see it. but looking in a mirror or looking down at myself, I still see the old me. My Laundry NSV is when I fold my underwear... Not Tent-N-Awning anymore. 40ismyyear. congrads.... How wonderful. scale Victories are just as important. I know this band IS the single best thing I have ever done for myself. Self pay.. yep, and I would pay it all over again... Double it even. I AM WORTH IT. Again Congrads.. I need to set my final goal. How did you set yours? Lois

I am excited about my NSV today! I suggested a motorcycle ride to my hubby this morning since it was such a nice day, just a little cold (38F). :tt2: So, I put my leathers on and... Yippee! I can actually put on my chaps all by myself! Previously, I had to have hubby "dress" me and it really took some doing to get that leather zipped around my thighs! I had to have a 4" extender for the waist and that is now gone! I can now "dress" myself!!! I got the chaps on and tried on my hubby's leather coat, it fit too! It was a GREAT ride!!!

Congratulations on such a wonderful NSV. Keep up the great work  I always seem to lose inches even when the scale isn't moving. -
All, Today is my one year anniversary of my surgery and I was wondering how everyone is doing on their Anniversary. I would love to hear from all of you as your DAY approaches. As of today, I have lost 115 since the begining of my journey. I can not tell you how much better I feel and all of the NSV I have had. I started out in a 26 jean or 3x and am now wearing 12p jeans and some med tops. I went from 3x scrubs to wear to work, to now buying mediums. More important, I feel so much better. I can breath, I am not short of breath anymore, I can walk from the parking lot to the store, or into work. I can reach things so much better, not knocking stuff over with my butt.... My chances of diabeties has lowered, my blood pressure has lowered. I can now sit on the floor if I want, I can cross my legs... My thighs dont rub as bad. I feel healthy... finally. I love, love ,love my band and want to hear your stories. Following those band rules. Lois

Happy New Year everyone! This holiday season was fun and went fast. I had some long weekends and time to play with my son and see family. This year Christmas was wonderful. Everyone got something they liked! We all got along! Life was good. Funny thing, no one said one word about me loosing weight. I guess me looking at the scale and knowing that I am wearing smaller clothes and am much healthier is going to have to be my reward for a while! I keep an eye out for the NSVs. Despite the fact that the below grid shows I have gained 2 pounds since the beginning of December, I am happy. At one time I was up 7 pounds. (OK, I had very little resistance to the Cookies, until I saw the scale! Then, I had no more cookies!) My goal for my bandiversay is 65-75 total pounds lost. That is about 20-30 pounds. I think it is a realistic goal. Does anyone else have a one year goal? My band is about as tight as it is going to get, so I need to just make good choices. The band is doing what it is supposed to do, it is up to me to get the rest of it right. The band is a little fickle. I actually had a slice of pizza the other day. Most days I couldn't have eaten that! I am actually happy that most days I can't eat pizza. I love the stuff and it loves me as it stays on my backside for a while after I eat it. (Like years!) I know that Protein makes me feel full and is what I need to eat, I have to just do it. For the most part, I am. I am still on that journey of discovery to determine why the heck I ever ate so much. Why I let myself get to almost 300 pounds? There are many things I have worked on and seem to have a handle on. On occasion I still use food as a friend. I am working on that! I seem to have a good understanding of the head hunger. Since my stomach actually growls now, I can tell when I am really hungry. I plan to continue this journey through 2009. I am actually thinking about trying a dating site. I haven't dated in a while. It has been more a "I don't like myself" sort of thing as opposed to not having available males around. I guess I should just get out there and give it a go.

NSV Thread for the May Bandsters!

Patti...What a wonderful NSV. Off some of your meds. I have had another NSV.. I cried and still am tearing up some...some of you will understand this one others who haven't been as big might not.....but I was trying on old clothes this morning and a lot of the older ones fits me again...great, but a little while ago I decided to use the tape messure on my hips...It actually touched! No more guessing how many inches in between the ends. Is it 5" or 6". I didn't do my messurements when I had the surgery because of how much I had to guess. This is very emotional for me. Even though I see the scale moving and clothes fitting it just wasn't regeristering 100%. Now it is. I can look at pics and actually notice a difference! This is so awesome to me.. Sorry so long and rambling! -
No change for me this week. I'll take it! Here is a NSV though...bizzarre as it is.... My eldest son is 8, he likes to play bad guys and good guys. He has metal handcuffs that have never been able to close over my wrists. Yesterday we were playing and he said "let's just see if these fit you now that you're a skinny bad guy instead of a big bad guy" and they not only fit, but they fit with wiggle room! So we played on! Christine

I fit into my "skinny" jeans this morning!

WooHoo! What a Great NSV! Yoga and Pilates have Def worked in my favor, I feel toner every day! Don't worry about the scale as much, I dedicate alot of success to doing what feels right and only scaling at my Doctor Appointments. I have jumped sizes without jumping many lbs. Size 26 to 16! It is truely amazing! -
Okay, in the interest of full disclosure, I should tell you that my "skinny" jeans are 1x with an elastic/drawstring waist. At my heaviest, I would only admit to a size 2x, but honestly, even those were getting snug. When I lost my first 20 pounds, I tried on these 1x jeans and they were still uncomfortably tight in the thighs and caboose area. So, I've been reluctant to try on anything smaller in the past month. Even though I only lost 2 pounds in December, I've added pilates to my walking routine. When I tried on the "skinny" jeans today, not only did they slide easily over my hips, but I actually had to tighten the drawstring to keep them up! I guess my body has become smaller even though the scale hasn't reflected a dramatic loss. I was beginning to lose some of my enthusiasm recently, but this small NSV has given me renewed hope. Happy New Year Everybody!

Was this all a big waste of time...?
Nickilin replied to RANIA32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are sooo right about the NSV. I haven't lost a pound, well actually lost 3 or so the other day, but people swear I am "disappearing" befor their eyes:) Also I was able to comfortably wear an XL scrub pant last night. The first time in YEARS!!! -

TklMeSkinny replied to RANIA32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 2 cents worth here, but I think everyone will lose at different rates, but another thing to watch is the inches we are losing. I may not be losing weight as rapidly as i'd like, but with the walking, and additional exercises, I see it in my clothes. I'm just over 5 weeks out from surgery (Banded on November 26th, 2008) and i've lost a total of 16 lbs since my surgery. However, i've lost 35 lbs total, with the 2 week diet before, and over 25 inches over my whole body! So check the inches too!!! Last night I visited with my Sister and her family, and she's about 4 inches shorter, and 100 lbs lighter than me, or used to be. She gave me a sweater that she thought might fit and I thought she was crazy. But, I wore it to work today!!!!! Yeah! Another NSV!!! So count the lbs, definitely, but count the inches, too, and Smile, Smile, Smile  !!!!! -
Mini goal by New Years Day?? Any takers??
brandyg74 replied to Losing_It_In_Texas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy New Year All! Great job to those who made their goal! I can't believe I did not make goal  I still keep losing and gaining the same 1-2 lbs. So I was at 202 yesterday. I am still proud of a NSV I have had recently, like on Christmas I actually took time to pick out what I was going to wear instead of dreading getting ready and actually thinking of ways I could get out of going to visit family. Question: I have been having a difficult time sleeping for about a week now, I have pressure in my throat, its not burning like heartburn I experieced before being banded...but pressure/difficulty swallowing and I am afraid my band slipped...but I haven't throw up... I am overdue for my first fill but I wanted to wait till after the holidays not so much because I wanted to be able to eat more...but about having so extra money for presents. Does any one have suggestions or have you experienced this? -
Liquids - the day of and the day after. I've maybe gotten down 1/3 of a water battle today and that's all. Sweet re: the NSV!

Congrats on the NSV. I am very encouraged by your "testimony". I was in a 22-24 and I am now in a 16-14. I'm out 1 1/2 yrs and would love to be at goal this August. My problem is the extra fat around my stomach. I know that it's a good 5-8 #'s. I would love to have lipo but I don't see that happening unless God provides(yes, I have asked him). Again, congrats and yes, I understand the tears of joy.

Starting the holiday detox early, anyone wanna join me?
Lynette617 replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy New Year to all us Detoxors. So I went a little wild last evening, but nothing I can't get back to today. NSV- I excercised today for the first time in months on my wii fit, for 1 hour, and 2 minutes so far, and I feel good. Just getting up on it today was great. Did a lot of aerobic stepping and running in that hour, and then some fun ones too, but I did it. Have my bodybugg up and running today, and been logging in my calories. And I've actually not got on the scale today. Hope everyone had a great night last night and 2009 is going to be F-I-N-E fine. -
26 days post-op and not losing...
heather.vasquez replied to MzALiSoN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyoen I was baned on 11/18:smile2: it has been a roller coaster when i switched stages with weight from mushies to regular diet things slowed dow drastically. Things to keep in mind ..your still healing... your no longer on liquid so big digit weight loss will slown down if not drop to single digits & make sure you taking in enough PROTEIN!! I sat down one day and put my food intake in my-caloriecounter.com and realized I was eating only 300- 400 calories a day and not taking in the recommended 60-80 grms of Protein I needed. Since then I pay attention to things High in protetin of Drink a shake for snack if hungry to get that extra protein in. I have a friend that got her band in sept and has not been successful ecause she eats lots of slider foods and carbs. Honestly carbs were not our friend before the surgery and they certaintly aren't now. Journal your food intake it helps at the end of the day to say hey I did good or hey I didn;t make the greatest choices. Stay strong and look the NSV ( Non scale Victories) Crossing legs for the first time, touching toes without straining your back ( lol) Clothes fitting better and just feeling better in general. Good Luck everyone:thumbup: -
NSV moment... I had a massage this morning (my work benefits pay for it!!!!) and when she was massaging my calf muscles and the back of my thighs (whatever they are called), it actually was sore. That's never really happened before. She said it was due to my running, that I'm working those muscles hard right now. You'd think it would have hurt before, but I think since those are my strongest muscles (for me I'm all leg!), all I've really been working so far is my cardio, not necessarily my legs... but now I'm getting to the good stuff! I'm resting today and plan to run the rest of the week. I want this to be a 6 runs out of 7 days week!

The best holiday NSV for me was the baking and eating a "normal" amount of treats without craving more. This has NEVER happened during the holidays. I was satisfied with one little piece of whatever a day. Years past I would be shoving things in all day long for two weeks and feeling sick...physically and emotionally. Another NSV...the after Christmas sales. Could walk in a store and just pick out small tops and size 4 pants (pants I needed to try on cuz I have a 34' inseam). My closet loves being full again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is everyone? Our two year bandiversary is rapidly approaching. Time has surely flown by. Hope everyone had a safe and merry Christmas and that 2009 will be a great year for everyone. My 2 yr bandiversary is Jan. 19. While I have not reached MY goal of 199, I have experienced a lot of positive results and NSV's over the past two years and I am closer to it than I have ever been. Hopefully I will reach it before April. I gave myself four more months. Been in a prolonged plateau. Currently 219. Surgery day I was 300.5 with an all time high of 368 about 10 years ago. Trying to get back on track from Thanksgiving and Christmas. I allowed too many carbs back in my life over the holidays:sad_smile:. I know I have to buckle down and get back on track.Happy New Year!!
