Was this all a big waste of time...?
TklMeSkinny replied to RANIA32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 2 cents worth here, but I think everyone will lose at different rates, but another thing to watch is the inches we are losing. I may not be losing weight as rapidly as i'd like, but with the walking, and additional exercises, I see it in my clothes. I'm just over 5 weeks out from surgery (Banded on November 26th, 2008) and i've lost a total of 16 lbs since my surgery. However, i've lost 35 lbs total, with the 2 week diet before, and over 25 inches over my whole body! So check the inches too!!! Last night I visited with my Sister and her family, and she's about 4 inches shorter, and 100 lbs lighter than me, or used to be. She gave me a sweater that she thought might fit and I thought she was crazy. But, I wore it to work today!!!!! Yeah! Another NSV!!! So count the lbs, definitely, but count the inches, too, and Smile, Smile, Smile  !!!!! -
Mini goal by New Years Day?? Any takers??
brandyg74 replied to Losing_It_In_Texas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy New Year All! Great job to those who made their goal! I can't believe I did not make goal  I still keep losing and gaining the same 1-2 lbs. So I was at 202 yesterday. I am still proud of a NSV I have had recently, like on Christmas I actually took time to pick out what I was going to wear instead of dreading getting ready and actually thinking of ways I could get out of going to visit family. Question: I have been having a difficult time sleeping for about a week now, I have pressure in my throat, its not burning like heartburn I experieced before being banded...but pressure/difficulty swallowing and I am afraid my band slipped...but I haven't throw up... I am overdue for my first fill but I wanted to wait till after the holidays not so much because I wanted to be able to eat more...but about having so extra money for presents. Does any one have suggestions or have you experienced this? -
Liquids - the day of and the day after. I've maybe gotten down 1/3 of a water battle today and that's all. Sweet re: the NSV!

Congrats on the NSV. I am very encouraged by your "testimony". I was in a 22-24 and I am now in a 16-14. I'm out 1 1/2 yrs and would love to be at goal this August. My problem is the extra fat around my stomach. I know that it's a good 5-8 #'s. I would love to have lipo but I don't see that happening unless God provides(yes, I have asked him). Again, congrats and yes, I understand the tears of joy.

Starting the holiday detox early, anyone wanna join me?
Lynette617 replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy New Year to all us Detoxors. So I went a little wild last evening, but nothing I can't get back to today. NSV- I excercised today for the first time in months on my wii fit, for 1 hour, and 2 minutes so far, and I feel good. Just getting up on it today was great. Did a lot of aerobic stepping and running in that hour, and then some fun ones too, but I did it. Have my bodybugg up and running today, and been logging in my calories. And I've actually not got on the scale today. Hope everyone had a great night last night and 2009 is going to be F-I-N-E fine. -
26 days post-op and not losing...
heather.vasquez replied to MzALiSoN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyoen I was baned on 11/18:smile2: it has been a roller coaster when i switched stages with weight from mushies to regular diet things slowed dow drastically. Things to keep in mind ..your still healing... your no longer on liquid so big digit weight loss will slown down if not drop to single digits & make sure you taking in enough PROTEIN!! I sat down one day and put my food intake in my-caloriecounter.com and realized I was eating only 300- 400 calories a day and not taking in the recommended 60-80 grms of Protein I needed. Since then I pay attention to things High in protetin of Drink a shake for snack if hungry to get that extra protein in. I have a friend that got her band in sept and has not been successful ecause she eats lots of slider foods and carbs. Honestly carbs were not our friend before the surgery and they certaintly aren't now. Journal your food intake it helps at the end of the day to say hey I did good or hey I didn;t make the greatest choices. Stay strong and look the NSV ( Non scale Victories) Crossing legs for the first time, touching toes without straining your back ( lol) Clothes fitting better and just feeling better in general. Good Luck everyone:thumbup: -
NSV moment... I had a massage this morning (my work benefits pay for it!!!!) and when she was massaging my calf muscles and the back of my thighs (whatever they are called), it actually was sore. That's never really happened before. She said it was due to my running, that I'm working those muscles hard right now. You'd think it would have hurt before, but I think since those are my strongest muscles (for me I'm all leg!), all I've really been working so far is my cardio, not necessarily my legs... but now I'm getting to the good stuff! I'm resting today and plan to run the rest of the week. I want this to be a 6 runs out of 7 days week!

The best holiday NSV for me was the baking and eating a "normal" amount of treats without craving more. This has NEVER happened during the holidays. I was satisfied with one little piece of whatever a day. Years past I would be shoving things in all day long for two weeks and feeling sick...physically and emotionally. Another NSV...the after Christmas sales. Could walk in a store and just pick out small tops and size 4 pants (pants I needed to try on cuz I have a 34' inseam). My closet loves being full again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is everyone? Our two year bandiversary is rapidly approaching. Time has surely flown by. Hope everyone had a safe and merry Christmas and that 2009 will be a great year for everyone. My 2 yr bandiversary is Jan. 19. While I have not reached MY goal of 199, I have experienced a lot of positive results and NSV's over the past two years and I am closer to it than I have ever been. Hopefully I will reach it before April. I gave myself four more months. Been in a prolonged plateau. Currently 219. Surgery day I was 300.5 with an all time high of 368 about 10 years ago. Trying to get back on track from Thanksgiving and Christmas. I allowed too many carbs back in my life over the holidays:sad_smile:. I know I have to buckle down and get back on track.Happy New Year!!

Holiday NSV's! (Non-Scale Victories)
Crishell replied to BandedCG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congratulations! My holiday NSV is that I was able to finally zip up tall boots. Never been able to wear them because calves were too big.Tried on a pair and they zipped!! So I bought two pair. Then, as if that wasn't enough, a few days later I bought a pair of short red ones with a very pointy toe and skinny heel. That was a first too. The old me would have broken that heel in 2 minutes and would never made a step in them. I wore them to a party with a pair of jeans and made it the entire night plus walked around in Walmart with them-just because I could. :tongue2: -
My mom gave me a fitted v-neck sweater for Christmas. When I saw that it was a 1X, I thought "I will not be able to wear this". Oh...and it has horizontal stripes, which I thought I'd never wear again. I'm wearing it today!!!!! It fits! And, I must say I think I look pretty darned HOT! :tongue2: POST YOUR NSV!

We all made it through the year and the holiday season,. well almost, just a few more days. Dr. appointment on Tuesday and will need a slight fill. A few weeks ago felt there was no way I would, but I have been seeing myself taking in more at each sitting...so will ask for .5cc and hope to get it. As well as not much weight loss in the past month or so. No plans for New Year's Eve, will be watching my grandson, as my daughter has to work until midnight..bumer, because I actually was asked to join a group of friends for the evening :tongue_smilie: I hit the after xmas sales. and am buying clothes smaller than I did in October.. tough on the budget, but with gift cards I am getting new clothes and a size smaller.. I can hardly believe it, I started at a 2X clothes last November..now into medium in my shirts...and 12 in pants NSV I am enjoying the gym, Starting out slow and adding a bit more each session. Feels great and vow to go at least 3 X a week if not more.. Best Wishes to all for a Happy New Year, may it be healthy, safe and fun -

Mimi - So sorry for the loss of your Dad.. I am glad you have a big family to be with - it does help.. Hugs... and yes time alone is what is needed to. Stress will make your band tighter - at least it did mine - I was tight after my little bro died in Oct... But for me stress like that doesn't make me eat - just the reverse - I have no appetite.. Lynn - Congrats on your NSV... You are going to love having a trainer - I love mine and it really does help.. I have gain muscles since I got mine last March - and the more muscle you have the more calories you burn... Phyl as cold as it's been & windy - I can see why you skipped the pool - How funny your own Aunt didn't recongize you ... When I sent my Aunt a pic of me she said that she wouldn't know who I was.. Joann - I am happy to read that you had a good Christmas and that your fur baby got to enjoy too - My babies got presen't from Santa too. Yep some foods really don't taste as good as they use to... When do you go back to the doc for your 1st fill -for me I think it was 8 weeks. -
Karen, I totally feel you. I used to HATE HATE looking in the mirror, especially at the hair salon! Now I see like a new person and so I look not in vanity but in a "is that me??" kinda way!! My NSV, I actually took a full body pic next to our Christmas tree and I loved it! I was in denial about how big I was for a while. My mom always told me I looked fine and so did my BF. Now they are both telling me that I was huge and they were trying to be supportive so I didnt feel down about myself! I understand them.

My clothes are probably my biggest NSV. The only problem is that I'm about out of things that fit me!! I have baggy butt problems with most of my pants, LOL. I'm not complaining though! I went and checked out a second hand store to try and find some pants. I got a few pairs that'll fit hopefully soon---but they didn't really have anything that'll work for right now. I really don't want to go buy a bunch of new stuff though...since I'm still losing. My 11yr old son got his arms all the way around me!!! I love that my kids are proud of me. Great job janesays! I bet that felt great!! I had bought a shirt off the clearance rack that I never dreamed would fit...and it does now!! Such a great feeling!

Did you get a picture of that??? That is so funny! I would love to see a picture! So very sorry to hear about your Dad, Mimi! Don't fret over the food issues. We will all get back on track now that the festivities are over... well, almost... New Years coming up! I am up 2 lb according to my Wii. It's frustrating, because I haven't "pigged out" at all.... CAN'T! But, just having a few treats that I don't normally have and I gain! But, like I said, back on track today! And, skipped exercise yesterday, but getting ready to go to the pool this morning even though the thermometer says its 44 outside and the wind is blowing! Have to tough it out! Oh, our dd & sil are taking off from Seattle right about now, on their way down here, so I guess my eating challenges will continue for the next week! I will have to be very diligent in making right choices!! I know we'll be doing some eating out! So sorry about your sister. I have three and I can't imagine losing one of them! Family is so precious! Reading posts of neices, grandneices, etc on Facebook yesterday and earlier this week... back in Buffalo, I said to DH yesterday.. "maybe next year we should fly to Buffalo for Christmas!" He was not enthused about that idea! But hearing about all their preparations for Christmas made me homesick.... for my childhood home. Yeah, back on the wagon for sure. I had an extra glass of wine yesterday, too, and a Christmas cookie and two pieces of fudge! Oh, and we went out for dinner with about a dozen people and I had turkey, dressing, mashed taters! Great NSV!! When I WAS back home last summer.. one of my aunts didn't speak to me, and then she was gone, so I didn't get a chance to talk to her either... My Mom told me later that Aunt Fran didn't know who I was! Has happened several times since we've been back here in the RV park, too. Folks who haven't seen me since last winter don't speak to me until I speak to them! Then they tell me they didn't recognize me! Fun, huh??!! I love it! -

Mimi- So sorry for your loss. Having family and friends around hopefully made the day a pleasant one. I know how tough it is to find the time to grieve. My sister passed away, suddenly, last January and I still has times when I do not believe she is gone. I wanted to call her yesaterday, but just spoke with her in my own way. All the best and hope having all thos family members around helped. I am sure your day was looking down upon his family, smiling :tongue2: NSV - I saw someone yesterday I had not seen since last Christmas. She came over and introduced herself.. She didn't even recognize me!!!! We had a good laugh after she realized who I was. It was a great feeling to know that I was unrecognizeable to someone... Now back on the wagon and watch my food intake. Too much cheese and pepperoni yesterday..and a few glasses of wine. Joined the gym and will start with a trainer after the first of the year. My gift to myself!! Hope everyone had a great day. -
NSV - At yesterday's family gathering I saw someone I had not seen since last xmas. She didn't even recognize me. We had a good laugh after she realized who I was. It was nice to "shock" someone that much. :tongue2: Hope everyone had a great day. The food was a plenty, and I tried to be careful!! as much as possible. Lots of salad and cheese for me..and a few glasses of wine!!

you know what, you're right! i bought some shoes right before my surgery and now they are a bit looser than most new shoes after i wear them in. it didnt even cross my mind that i could be losing weight in my FEET! haha weird... not so sure i like this nsv as much as others
-
Ok. This one is weird but I have definitely lost weight in my feet. All my shoes are flopping when I wear them. I can't even keep some of them on!
