    PCOS

I'm almost 3 months out, the only difference I've noticed with my PCOS is weight loss. I do get periods since I've had 10% of my ovaries removed though, so I can't really say on that. Google "ovarian drilling for PCOS"; I had something kind of like this. That made my cycles become regular for the most part, it did not cure my infertility. I don't think you would need metformin after this surgery at all, since your body learns to work with such a small amount of food I'm sure that your insulin resistance will regulate. You can probably expect your cycles to regulate, but as far as the other symptoms disappearing...that's a long shot. I've been a "thin" PCOSer; I've been very thin at points in my life for very long stretches and I've never had my symptoms disappear. I worked out for 3 years when I was younger, I had excellent muscle tone; my periods returned to normal for two years but none of my other symptoms went away. Working out is supposed to lower overall testosterone in PCOS women. I'm lucky to not have horrible symptoms, I do get irregular periods, facial and body hair, overweight (hopefully not anymore after the sleeve!), and skin tags. I don't get the dark Patches and I'm grateful for that. I can honestly say my hair growth has not slowed down at all since my surgery, and my skin tags are still in abundance. My periods have been kind of wonky also, probably due to the weight loss and exercise. I think the best bet for the embarrassing PCOS symptoms is laser hair removal, I'm planing to get this at some point. I can live with the skin tags. As for infertility, that's usually not to hard to deal with if you don't get periods, usually all that is needed is something like Clomid or Femara to induce ovulation. The weight loss is a big one but I've done the sleeve for that YAY! You wanted to know if I feel better in respects to my PCOS? Well that would be yes, I do. I think that is just based on weight loss though, the PCOS made it hard for me to lose weight and let me tell you that 38lbs makes a huge difference on how easy it is to move!!!!!! I think you will feel a million times better with a sleeve, and once you lose some weight your periods should get normal. It usually doesn't take long, maybe 2 months after the sleeve...possible even 4-6 weeks. Should be about the same amount of time that it would take the Met to work. Feel free to message me if you have any questions

    Sharp Pain

I was banded on 10/08/08 and two weeks after started having sharp pains in my lower right side. Today I ended up in the Hospital with what I thought was an appendicites attack. After hours of X-rays and a CT scan, they sent me home saying everything looks good it must be complications from you lap band surgery. It may be normal but it sure the hell hurt. I see the Doc on thursday for my first fill. I'll see what he say's and then I'll share it with you. GOD Bless:rolleyes2:

Looking for stats on 5'0" females..

I'm 5'1"! I started at my heaviest weight of 228.5 lbs. I lost 11 pounds over 6 months working with the dietitian and then another 10 pounds on my preop diet. My day of surgery weight (1/20/15) was 207. I had an initial stall for the first few weeks, but as I started eating more solid foods the weight started to fly off. I'm currently 161 pounds and I'm 5 months out. I'm wearing a size 8/10 and feel amazing. I'm averaging about a pound a week, although it is starting to slow down!!! I'm so not complaining though! BEST DECISION I EVER MADE!!! Good luck!!!
  5. I quit 10 years ago using Chantix. I smoked the normal amount for the first 2 weeks, got down to one final cigarette and have never picked up one again. It was a little hard at first to break a 30 year smoking habit but not as hard as I anticipated. There is no real reason to use the patches as well since the Chantix blocks the nicotine receptors in the brain.

    Nurses

I am a newer nurse and have been working in Outpatient Surgery at a hospital which is a Bariatric Surgey Center of Excellence. I have been on the chubby side my whole life, and even while being in the military for 10 years (not as a nurse), it was very hard for me to make weight every 6 months for weigh-in. I could pass the run portion of the 6 month physical fitness test with flying colors; but my weight, majority of the time, was either right on the line for "max weight" or well over. Now that I am in my mid 30's it is not as easy to lose the weight. Back to the nursing question- I had thought about Lap Band before but it was not until I started working at my current job did I decide to actually get it myself. Every week I have at least 6 or 7 "banders". I also talked to some of the surgeons on a regular basis.I then started doing my research, picked a surgeon, and finished all the pre surgery criteria and got approved. Now I just have to schedule my surgery, which I will do on tuesday. I believe that my knowledge and experience with patients who had the surgery was my deciding factor...........
  7. MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH

wooo whooo, I have made it through my 1st month

That's right, from here on out, it is straight ahead no looking back. My goal I want so bad to meet this year, to be able to wear one of those sexy Santa Suits Christmas night for my wonderful husband that has beent here for me since I decided to go through with this. I owe it to him, and most of all, I owe it to myself to see myself smaller and in something sexy for the first time since I was 19 yrs. old.
  8. Wow! I'm trying to settle on a goal weight and rather than a weight I have a size in mind. I want to be a 6. I'm currently a 10. Just wondering what to expect since I plan to have a tummy tuck.
  9. OK so here it is the night before (well early morning of..) my pre op testing!! to be 100% honest, I am a Nervous wreck!! I have literally made myself sick in the last 48 hours. I could not figure out why all of sudden my stomach is nauseous and I had diarrhea..(sorry for the tmi)...but I just figured out..its my NERVES!! I am a nervous wreck and didn't even realize it. I just got off the phone with my best friend who had to remind me to breath bc I was beginning to have what I THINK is an anxiety attack! I know I have made the right decision to get banded, after a lot of time and research, but now as I lay in bed the night before Pre Op testing,I am having second thoughts !I know deep down its the best decision but right now Its not so clear!! I was always a "strong" person,so right now I am surprised at how much In freaking out on the inside! I know a lot of people start feeling like this a few days before surgery, but I still have 10 whole days! Im not scheduled until August 12th. is this too soon for me to be freaking out? has anyone else experienced these feelings this far away from surgery day?? my stomach is bubbling,I feel like I have a lump in my throat, my chest is heavy and overall I think I might just sh*t my pants before surgery day arrives!! LOL MY NERVES are SHOT!!! I only told a handful of people about my surgery plans,so I think the fact that there are ppl close to me whose shoulder Im used to leaning on when I need support, that dont even have a clue as to what Im in the process of doing is also playing a role in my Pre surgery Jitters.(they dont know bc I dont think they'd be as supportive as I'd need them to be) So pretty Much this site is my NUMBER 1 person (people) to turn to! SO I NEED ALL OF YOUR HELP!! PLEASE tell me about your pre op jitters stories. I would like to hear from any and everyone. any advice, tips, stories etc are greatly appreciated!! Also I would REALLY LOVE to befriend other August banders..ESPECIALLY those of you with the same surgery day of August 12th!! Also anyone else who is pre or post op that would like to be band buddies I would love that too! I need as much support as possible!!

    Not getting banded

I don't have co-mobitities and my BMI was 37.1. So they said I didn't meet the requirements. My BP is normal 120/68, no blood sugar issues, no heart problems, no cholesteral issues. I have been working with the dietian and my PCP for 4 weeks and have lost 10 pounds so I don't think they are going to appeal it. Thank you for your support.

  12. :cry Howdy everyone! I am starting the whole process with a surgical group in Georgetown, KY. I was wondering if anyone has any feedback on Dr. Oldham or his partner, Dr. Weiss? I am going Tuesday (10/16) to do the psych and nutrition evals and blood work and so on.
  13. Hi ya'll I'm 10 days out and wanted to hear from others what are your daily meals like and amounts or Oz per each meal. Breakfast - primier shake sip the whole 11oz in 2 hour time frame. lunch Water dinner. Soup maybe 2oz or so Water through the day maybe spoon of yogurt kefir here and there.
  14. I didn't swim until about 4 weeks after my surgery. My doc told me that I could've gone swimming almost right away... 10 days after surgery, if I was feeling up to it but I wasn't. You can start hardcore workouts around the same time [1 month out]. I just stuck to walking & WiiFit!
  15. When I was fat I could not carry groceries into the house without fatigued and short of breath....I was the one everyone had to stop and wait for while I stopped to rest.....at the gym I was lucky if I could do 15 minutes on the elliptical.... Now, I have more energy as I ever did.... I helped a friend move into his new house a few weeks back....everyone, 1/2 my age kept stopping to rest...I put them all to shame... At the gym, I am now "One of those people" who probably was never fat a day in their life and has always been athletic...yea, it's easy for them....If they only knew. I go to the gym 5 days a week, at 5:30am....BEFORE a 8-10 hour day at work, on my feet seeing patients all day in clinic.... I run at least 5 miles, do weights and core strengthening 2-3 times a week....and "Boot Camp" classes on Monday Mornings at 5am.... I am 61 years old, and without giving my FULL Medical history, I will say I did have one Heart Attack that resulted in Cardiac Surgery...all before lap band surgery and all weight related.

    Anyone from Boston MA?

I went to BIDMC and Dr Scheider was my surgeon. He is excellent.... And Michelle (nutrition) and Erin (nurse) are fantastic. I'm 10 months out and down about 117 I think (haven't weighed myself in a couple weeks) since the start if my pre op diet. Couldn't be happier!

    Hannah's Sleeve Journey

day 4 post op, having some brain fog, and I was kickboxing before and now am taking the stairs slowly. It's like going from 100 mph to 10 mph. Then again 2/3's of my stomach was removed duh Hannah. (facepalm) I'm doing OK getting in about 50 some odd ounces total of fluid. I am swollen today probably because of the shock to my body and getting used to the new stomach. I've been doing OK getting my pills in my stomach slowly in the morning my antidepressant and others. Pain is actually not too bad, I've been passing gas and that's been a huge blessing! Means stuff is moving and working. There has been some tension at home just from my dad being sick getting over the flu and he's a bit grumpy. (he was really fearful of me having this surgery done and the stress has gotten him sick I think) what can you do? I just stay out of the way and have been walking in my room slowly and then outside on the driveway slowly the stairs very very slowly. I've had praise and worship music on in my earbuds or on my speakers speaking in tongues/praying while walking and farting in my room. I'm getting about 40 to 50 some odd grams of protein but the main goal at this point is staying hydrated. And that I am doing fine at, all day job but it's getting done.
  18. I'm only 3 weeks out myself, and I, too, can eat fast, and seem to be eating more than most on here. I eat 1 c of cottage cheese for lunch, and finish it in about 10 minutes without feeling overfull. The more solid the food, the less I am able to eat and the longer it takes me. I have been eating around 800 - 1000 calories a day, and getting way over my minimum Protein. I am able to drink pretty normally, I just don't chug like I did before surgery. Reading the experiences of most on here, it sometimes concerns me, but I have been losing about 5 lbs a week since surgery, not including the 10 lbs of Water weight I gained from the IVs in the hospital. (Including that would make it 8 lbs a week!) I'm happy with that. I also have not had any problems as far as throwing up, sliming, or anything like that.

  20. Hey fellow May bansters! I just started the Optifast liquid diet yesterday and I am finding it extremely hard to stick to it. I have to be on it 10 days and I am wondering if I can make it. I have also begun to have an array of doubts. I am wondering if I find the pre-op diet to be so hard, how will I survive post-op. I am also beginning to wonder if I am making the right decision by having the surgery. Anyone else having these doubts? I am hoping that it is just nerves b/c I am getting so close to my surgery date.

    PB Timing?

For me, it can be within two minutes of eating...or even 10 minutes.
  22. So, I'm 2+ years out and had what I suspect was a gallbladder episode a few nights ago. Woke up projectile vomiting 5 hours after a rich meal. (Rich in good fat, salmon, olive oil, etc) I palpated around and nothing hurt to the touch. Problem was over as quick as it started. Went back to bed felt okay the next day, (minor soreness probably to be expected). Went and got checked the next day at the PCP's office, (my surgeon moved and the bariatric program kind of fell apart so no support there) and the nurse practitioner was like, yeah, could be, but since it was the first episode probably don't need an ultrasound. Try cutting some fat out of your diet. Okay... So I've done that, and do feel better, however, I've lost a little weight already. I don't really NEED to lose at this point, but 10 pounds would be okay. No more though. So I've been maintaining my weight on a certain calorie level (1300-1500) mostly supported by full fat dairy and "good" fats in nuts, avocado, salmon, olive oil, etc. I've gone back to logging so I can keep track of the fat, (I WAS eating a lot, I think), but now, keeping it below 30% (around 40g per day which doesn't seem that low to me), I struggle to get 1000 calories per day, (even when I eat 5-6 small meals per day). I have an exercise habit, stationary bike at home, nothing extreme, that burns 400-500 per day. What am I going to look like in 2 months? Should I be concerned?

    Acid Reflux

I am three weeks post sleeve and doing well except for acid reflux issues every morning. Going slow with the protein shakes in the morning around 8. Then doing water till 11. Eat a cream soup around 12. About 4-5 oz. then back on water around 1 till 330. Having food processed items around 430. Last night was 4oz chicken breast processed. Ate about half. Then back on fluids again around 530 till around 9. Shake again around 930. Bed at 10. But the mornings are horrible with the reflux. Anyone having this issue?
  24. Great to hear! keep up the good work. I have worked with a trainer in the past but prefer to just do the workouts on my own. You will learn the exercises and how to mix it up on your own. I go to Planet Fitness- only $10/month and personal training is free if you want it. I have been consistently weightlifting at least 5 days per week since late Summer/Fall of 2021 after fully recovering from gall bladder removal and I think it has made a great difference in how my clothes fit, how my arms/legs/stomach skin looks and how I feel overall.
