  1. This is embarrassing but I hope it will help someone. When weighting my weight would fluctuate up and down during the same weight in get off the scale and get back on and it would be different was driving me crazy, lat week I used the as seen on TV spin pedi and took dead skin off my feet since the consistant weights! Help with the emotional what's going on??? Hope this helps someone else as well!!!
  2. Has anyone noticed people treating them differently since losing weight. I have. More people come talk to me, I get waited on much quicker, especially at a bar. I don't get dirty looks from strangers if I happen to bump in to them. Hmmmmm..discrimination against fat people is definetly not a myth.
  3. Hi.... I was banded a year ago and have done really well...I was within 3 pounds of goal when I got the stomach flu. I was really vomiting and went in to get unfilled (my band is tilted slightly, although not slipped. This was found via a CT scan). I had 4cc taken out, which brought me to 3cc, basically my first fill. This was done 2 weeks ago. Since then, I have gained almost 14 pounds. What is going on??? Can I eat more? Yes, but not nearly what I would have eaten. Plus, I am still being good regarding the rules. It seems to me that if I go over 5-600 calories per day I am gaining. I don't understand this. It is so frustrating!! Can someone help explain this to me?

Hi all, im new to this...

Every Doctor has a different program. Mine is one week of Clear liquids. Week 2 all liquids still but can add in Protein shakes, sugar free pudding Jello etc. The 3rd week is pureed foods maybe baby foods anything ( well not anything) thatcan be liquified. and Then week is soft foods cream of wheat, pureed tury and gravy etc So far I am 5 days post op and have lost 12 pounds. Granted its Water weight because I am havinhard time keeping up wh my liquids and keeping them down. I did cheat a lile and am having small sips of Protein Shakes and smallspoon fulls of sf vanilla pudding. I ree that within the firstfew mohs you should lose the most weight. I would contact your nutritionist.

    military hospital..tricare...help please

Be careful. Your doc may approve you, sure...but what if Tricare doesn't? Plus, if he was willing to approve you, why doesn't he just chart your records of weight and then say you've already lost 15 pounds from your highest (assuming you have). Just be careful. My first instinct was eat, gain (or put lead in your socks) then go back to him for a weigh in.

What do I DO Now? Advice Wanted

Krys, The thing that gets rid of my Water weight the best is to stop eating anything with gluten in it. No bread, Pasta, cereals etc. You can eat basically any meat, veggie and fruit...just forget the simple carbs. I find when I eat like this I also feel SO much better! I'm not so depressed, I think better and just have an all around better attitude. I hope you do well on your journey!

    Where did my fill go??

SO ok, I have been this board talking of how wonderful it has been to be restricted, the weight is just flying off since my last fill October 3rd and there are some meals I can't get more than a few bites in which I love when I hit the scales the next day. So why now all of a sudden I can eat again? Even in the morning. I still have some restriction, but not what I was getting. Ever since Thanksgiving when I could eat more than a few bites and at lunch today I went to eat my normal half chargrilled chicked sandwich lunch and noticed I ate 3/4's of the sandwich before I threw it away and still wanted more and it only took 30 minutes later for me to be hungry again. Before I would have been stuffed for hours. Why can't I keep the restriction I had, I feel like I am fallin back into the rut I was in before eating everything. I had come to the fact that I just couldn't eat certain things anymore and wouldn't even try. I know it is a mind game, but now I want to try those things again to see if I can get them down even though I know I shouldn't. I'm sorry this is long and I know not so important with everyone elses problems, but have I slipped too or is losing restriciton a few months after every fill normal? You would think I would know this by now, but I don't. Also, my surgeon sent me a letter saying it has been a year since my surgery and they want me in for an endo to check it out since it has been a year. I thought that was pretty cool except it is a day event and you are not suppose to drive after. Since I have no time off the rest of the year I will have to wait until January to schedule. I wonder if I should schedule sooner??

    The only thing id change...

The only thing I would change is that I would have done the Optifast pre-operatively for two months, not just two weeks. I lost over 22lb in those 2 weeks and, had i known the huge advantage I would have gained by fasting longer, I would have done it. Starting from a higher weight, I would say it should be a necessity, as my weight loss slowed down after the first 3 months when I began to be able to eat more. I tried exercise but couldn't stick to much more than a long walk once or twice a day, so weight loss slowed down and finally plateaued.
  11. I am almost 2 years out from surgery and 27weeks pregnant. I know I am suppose to gain weight and so far I have been good ... Gaining 7lbs BUT I have been eating more and more and my belly is able to handle it :/ not sure why. Plus I have been craving sugar and crap I know I can not have but I give in and YES I get sick where I feel horrible. Guess I'm just not understanding why I am able to eat this not good food now and wasn't able to do so before I got pregnant. I don't want to gain over the recommended weight or go back to old eating habits!
  12. Hey all!! Today I had my final weight loss and nutrition consultation and found out that since January, I have lost a total of 15 pounds! Yay! I really feel like I am on my way. They will be submitting my records to my insurance company on Friday. Please pray/send positive thoughts/meditate for me that I get approved. I have worked the program very hard and will be so disappointed if it does not get approved ( AND out of $$$ for preop testing/prep fees). I am looking at either a May 16, 23rd or June 6th surgery date. My Dr.is Dr. Kennedy, and I am very comfortable with her so all looks great!. I cannot wait to start losing, creating a new lifestyle, and posting lots of progress on this site that is sure to provide me some great support! Peace <3, Melody
  13. Hey everybody! I'm almost 6 weeks post op at this point and for the past few days I've been finding that I've been super hungry all the time. I can normally eat a small snack like a cheesestring or some deli meat to make the hunger feeling subside for a bit but then an hour or two later I find myself getting really hungry again and experience that gnawing stomach sensation. This hasn't really happened before and I've only noticed it being a problem in the last few days. The last few days I've been really good at hitting my Protein goals, and I'm always at about 70-80 grams, whereas before I could only hit 50-60. I'm wondering if that has something to do with it? I'm still measuring out all my food, tracking my food on myfitnesspal (food diary: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/diary/avatarkorraa) keeping my calories at around 600-800 a day, and I can't eat more than 4oz in one sitting for sure, but I'm just worried that if this continues I'll eventually start eating too much and not sustaining my weight loss. My weight loss has also been quite slow, I've only lost about 20 pounds so far and I had my surgery on September 19th. :/ Any advice? Thanks!
  14. Hi Bariatric Friends ...... I would like to lose approx. 28 kgs. I have just lost 9.5 kgs. in 10 weeks with Slimming World. I have been discussing Bariatric Sleeve surgery but my daughter is so against me having it done. She says that I will never again be able to enjoy a family meal or a meal out .... that I am not heavy enough to have Bariatric Surgery .... that I can lose this weight by watching my food intake and not necessarily having a bariatric sleeve, which is quite drastic. I have a neurological auto-immune illness, which has caused my weight gain - I was very thin until the onset of this illness. I am on lots of (weight inducing) medication. I am going to be taking this medication for life. I am now wondering whether Bariatric Surgery or basic diet change is the way to go. There is no guarantee that I will lose weight even if I become anorexic because of my illness and the associated medication. Would you recommend surgery or just diet management for my situation. If I could get my jaws wired for a time I could find out if I'm going to lose enough weight to make me happy ...... Thanks in advance for your advice ....... I'm very confused !!
  15. I wish I'd never tasted the crap foods, as I find it hard to eliminate them now. It's a handful here and there. Chocolate, potato chips, soda are all on that list. I can only eat small quantities of these foods which is a blessing, but 7 months out I worry it's a slippery slope. I'm at my goal weight but am terrified of regain and know I need to curb these habits sooner rather than later. Thinking about a 5 day liquid diet to reset.

    First Fill

That's great you got covered! I needed to lose 70 pounds and although I had co-morbidities, they were being treated medically so I figured I wouldn't be covered. Also didn't have the patience to go through the six months required weight program. Figured by that time I would have spent a fortune and then lost a little weight and they would have just said I didn't need to lose enough weight to qualify for the band. Catch-22. So I just opted for self-pay and got it done asap. I had to get stuck twice once on one of my first fills. The nurse said because I have lost so much weight my port is very wobbley. At least it hasn't flipped on me.

Do I eat if I'm not hungry?

Jennibee, congrats on no hunger. If I were you I would try to drink at least a protein shake during the day. It is quite common to not have as much hunger after you get filled. You may find that after you lose some additional weight the hunger may return.
  18. I was sleeved 06/13. I had my 1 week post op yesterday... For the stats fans: 5'3" SW: 234 CW: 222 GW: 135 This last week has been utter hell! I have been in a severe amount of pain. I'm so jealous of the people who feel nothing afterward! My left incision is TIGHT and I have a huge bulge because it's so tight. It's swollen and hurts like a SOB. Especially when I go from sitting to standing. YOWZA! But the worst part is the pain with swallowing. Ever since my first baby sip of water on surgery day, I've had pain when I swallow. It is so much pressure and feels like a weight is sitting on my chest. Because of that, I'm not meeting my fluid or protein goals. The most fluid I have had in a day was 46 oz and protein was 32... And that was on my best day. My surgeon said she wasn't surprised I'm having issues because she thought the opening between my stomach & esophagus looked tighter/smaller than it should have been while she was in there. So that pain is because things are getting stuck. The plan is to go back in and have my esophagus dilated, but she wants to wait 4 weeks to give me time to heal. 4 weeks of this pain and exhaustion! Meanwhile, I have a standing order for IV fluids at my local hospital for any day I don't reach my fluid goals and anytime I'm feeling exhausted or just not feeling great. Which is all the time since I'm dehydrated and not getting enough protein! They also said I should wait to go back to work until at least a month or until after this issue has been fixed! I don't know what to tell my boss because I am not telling anyone about my surgery. Even worse... It's a brand new job! My first one after 6 years as a SAHM! I told them during my interview that I was having surgery (not what kind) and that I would need at least 2 or 3 weeks off. They said for the right person, they would make anything work and offered me the job on the spot. They said it was their first time ever hiring someone immediately, but they knew I was perfect for the job and team. That made me feel amazing! But fast forward a month into the job when it was surgery time, they only gave me 12 days off and put me back on the schedule. I told them I wasn't sure if I could come back that early, but that I would keep them posted. They sort of agreed to that... But a month? Now I don't know what to say! My doc provided me a note, but it says 'bariatric surgery' in the company letterhead. I can't use it... I only told 2 people about this surgery... My husband and my mom. And I am not comfortable telling anyone else. I'm sad it didn't go as planned... frustrated that my doc didn't fix it during surgery when she clearly saw it wasn't right, exhausted, and real tired of being in pain! Is anyone else going through this? I feel so alone! Please do NOT comment just to say "I never had any pain or issues!" Or "I'm going back to work 5 days post-op!" Yeah... Congrats. 😏😜😂 I can't tell you how disheartening it is to read all the stories like that. I'm glad for you, truly, but super jealous it didn't go like that for me! So, please don't be salty! Lol!

    Slow weight loss!

I'm almost 11 months out and was very slow for the first month or two. I had a huge drop of weight over a two week span around 9 months. Everyone is different. Just stick to it and I KNOW it is soooo hard, but stay patient. Love yourself and don't allow yourself to get discouraged. This is kinda cheesy and I've never told anyone this until now, but the song "I won't give up" by Jason mraz- I used to sing it to myself, sometimes looking in the mirror. Read the words and think about it ????

    Slow weight loss!

Try thinking of it this way - there is absolutely no doubt that as long as you follow the protocol as closely to the letter as you possibly can and stay active, you will lose weight. The laws of science and the universe cannot be denied. Sometimes you'll lose slowly. Sometimes you'll lose quickly. Sometimes you won't lose at all. But your plan of action is the same in all three cases. Follow the protocol and stay active. And of course I personally would add maintain a food log! Your goal is physical change but your challenge is mental discipline. You cannot directly control the path your weight loss will take. You can control your thoughts. Stay positive, stay patient, stay focused - persistence, along with absolute belief, can never be defeated. You're gonna love the new you!!

    Hypnotize those pounds away!

As part of my grieving process, I've found myself cleaning a lot. (Very out of character for me). This weekend I decided to gut my drawers and closets and ran across this forgotten weight loss "program". Positive Subliminal messages hidden in soothing music and nature sounds to help boost your willpower to lose weight. Brought me a welcome chuckle.....

    Tried Zumba today...

Sounds awesome! I've been thinking about trying Zumba but wanted to wait until I lost more weight. You have convinced me to give it a try... I found a class on Sunday morning and I think I'll check it out! Thanks!!
  25. I can walk through an amusment park with my kids without running out of breath. I can shop in the "misses" section and not have to search for the "women's" section, usually in the back corners of the stores. I can learn to eat to live and not live to eat. My list can go on and on but I'l stop at three.
