    Obsessed

This site is great. Lots of people in all different stages of the sleeve, some with really great advise. I was obsessed with anything to do with my journey for the longest time. Good luck on your weight loss.
  3. Congratulations on your weight loss!! You are doing fantastic and looking gorgeous!! I bet you feel like a whole new you!! Keep up the great job!!
  4. I have a few questions for those who have gone through this or are going through this. First one is, why did you choose the sleeve or bypass over the other? I was thinking originally of getting the sleeve done, as dumping syndrome scares me as does the thought of them rerouting my intestines. That being said, I do sometimes get bad heartburn, (not enough where I need to take any medication or anything, but enough to be annoying) and I'm worried about GERD afterwards, and I have heard that, while both are effective, the Bypass has slightly better results so far. So just wondering what people's thoughts were on it. I'm 28 years old, mother of a one year old and my husband is super supportive about anything. my CW is 344 at 5'8.5'' Figured I'd get some last minute advice before I talk to the surgeon and see what his thoughts were as well. I don't have any major complications, I did have an Arrhythmia two years ago but after quitting my insane job, it's gone. VERY mild sleep apnea. The Dr's office says normally our insurance requires 6months of recorded weight loss attempts but since my BMI is over 50, it will probably be like 3 months. (I'm hoping that's the latest, as we had wanted to plan on trying for baby #2 next August-ish, and I know they like you to be 18 months out beforehand, and we have a wedding that my husband will be best man of Early June.) we have our first meeting with the weight loss center's doctor (not our surgeon, but our surgeon recommended this) and dietician tomorrow.) The last question is, I'm going to my first consultation/dietician class tomorrow morning, are there any questions you would have liked to have asked early on of your first consultations? Thanks in advance!

    Weight Loss

weight loss is rarely linear. It'll go up and down - or like many of us, you'll lose it in a "stair step" pattern (lose a few lbs, stall for a week or two, lose a few more lbs, rinse and repeat). As long as the overall trend is down, you're good. Fluctuations are very normal - but if those are messing with your head, then just weigh yourself once a week so you're seeing trends rather than day-to-day fluctuations.

    Psych evaluation questions

The psych eval is easy. They just want to be sure you understand what the surgery entails, have a support system, etc. Mine asked questions about my weight history, what I have tried before to lose, etc. Sent from my Nexus 6P using the BariatricPal App
  7. I'm sorry for the trouble you have been having, but your decision to see your doctor is the best thing for you. I just had my eleven month post op appointment and was too tight so I had some fluid taken out of my band. My doctor was concerned if I had pain when eating and checked my port area for inflammation and pain. I asked why, and he said that if you have an erosion, some of the symptoms are pain when eating, poor weight loss due to little or no restriction, and redness, pain and swelling of the port. The port is affected because of infection that will travel through the tubing to the port. Luckily, I had only been too tight for a month since I see him monthly. I hope the best for you, good luck!

    Weight Loss

I've been keeping track of my weight loss and knew it would slow down once I started getting off the liquid phase and started introducing food back into my diet, but I've gained a pound now. I'm not eating unhealthy, aside from some frozen yogurt yesterday. Is it normal to see a pound or two weight gain as your eating food and becoming more active in the beginning? My surgery was 3/31/21 and I've lost 29 pounds, but up 1 pound this morning. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. I am so ticked off! I went to the doctor to get my band unfilled as an emergency because I couldn't keep any food down. I thought the doctor's office had submitted my paperwork to the insurance company on 10/8/14, but they didn't. It seems that my doctor no longer works there so I have to go to a new doctor AND the new doctor won't do the surgery in one surgery he does it in two. My deductible is met for this year and they're not sure they can get me in for one surgery this year, much less both surgeries. They want to wait 6 weeks between surgeries. The doctor's office kept apologizing and saying that somehow my case slipped between the cracks. No one ever called to let me know the doctor no longer worked there. If I hadn't gone in at the last minute, I would have kept thinking that my paperwork was submitted to the insurance. They even called me and cancelled my 10/1/14 appointment saying it wasn't necessary since my paperwork was ready to go. The doctor left 3 weeks ago! In the mean time I've lost 28 pounds since July, not by trying, but because the band was too tight and I couldn't keep anything down. So now my BMI is at 34. I'm not sure the insurance will even approve me now. I was warned not to gain any weight or they won't do the surgery. Has anyone else had to switch doctor's in the middle of going thru the process of the revision from band to sleeve? I'm so mad I could just spit.
  10. I was sleeved on 3/20/15 and total weight gone is 35 pounds since surgery. I hit a 3 week stall that just ended a few days ago. I changed up my exercise routine and food intake and the scale moved again. I actually fit on the ALL carnival rides today..... first time since 2007. I was so happy I happy I cried. Good Job to everyone! It's not an easy journey, but it's YOUR journey, make the most of it.
  11. Crayon67 do you have protein shakes etc to get your ptotein in? Or maybe I need to ask what protein requirements does your Dr have? I just feel I need to switch it up to step up my weight loss.
  12. A month ago, I did a strict, unnecessary, pre-op diet to qualify for surgery. Once I got my surgery date of 2/25, I've eased off the strict diet and have managed to gain 7 pounds. Today I'm actually starting the real 2 week preop diet and it is MUCH harder the second time around. It's noon Im already sick from not eating. I def should not have gone off the strict diet I was on. My next weighin is 7 days from now. There is no room for cheating or slacking. My head hurts! How did I ever do this the first time?!? And why is this time so much harder?!? (Sorry needed to vent).

    After a slow start.....

since surgery. i didn't have to do a pre op diet because i have an insurance that doesn't require one. in fact the first weigh in was lower than the pre op weight.

    After a slow start.....

Congratulations!!! I love to hear these stories!! I'm getting banded in January. Is that 19lbs strictly what you have lost since surgery or does that include the weight you lost in pre-op?? I really love reading everyone's story.. Keep up the good work!!

    Eating like a hog

OMG so you've lost 27 lbs in 2 months???? That's definitely over the 'typical' results most people say of 1-2 lbs per week (even if you say 3 lbs per week)! How wonderful for you to have lost that much weight without restriction! TOTALLY amazing! The beginning is really tough. I didn't have my first fill for three months because I was smack dab in the middle of holidays when it came time for fill #1, so I really had a tough time with it. So I tried to eat like a bandster, but h*ll I was hungry! Are you getting in 80 g of Protein a day? The thing that helped me get through 'bandster hell' was just eating as much protein as I could and that gave me at least a little satiety. Even though you lost 8 lbs last month, heck that could be due to the exercise--you shouldn't have to suffer with hunger. How long are your meals lasting you? Could you perhaps add a protein-rich snack to hold you to the next meal? I am thinking the exercise might be increasing your hunger as well. Have you gotten any fills yet or is your band empty? Sorry for all the questions--just trying to get a sense of your situation and what you could do to get the hunger under control. It is a terrible feeling!!!

    Eating like a hog

I was banded on June 30th and I have my first fill next week. Since I got my band I have lost 15lbs (30 total from pre surgery), but I am eating way more than I'm supposed to too, I'm sure. I am always hungry but I am losing weight because when I feel hungry I start sucking down the Water. I am probably taking in too much water, I'm constantly drinking so I feel full because I am always hungry. I hope my doc goes ahead with the fill since I have no restriction either. check out my family blog! The Heflin Family
  18. I lost 80 pounds about 6 years ago, and the second I moved, changed my life style a bit, and started eating my mom's cooking again, I gained it ALL back in about 3 months. I have only gained since then, with the exception of a weight watchers diet where I lost about 20 lbs. Every time I lose, I gain the weight back and more..ten to twenty pounds more. I cannot maintain a healthy weight. I eat healthy, I excersize, but without starving myself and working out 2 hours a day, the weight does not come off or stay off. I just don't want to live like that. This is the reason for the band. It keeps the hunger at bay and makes you full on less, so although I will be eating small amounts, I won't be uncomfortable, hungry, mean, and bitchy (from the hunger) This is my reason for getting the band. I can't WAIT! One more month to go.
  19. My fingers touch when I put my fingers around my wrist! A couple of week ago, I couldn't do that! What's the first things you noticed about your body changing during the weight loss process?
  20. WrenBird

    The little things!

ahahaha. I can't wait! I have a skirt at the moment that doesn't have elastic in it (it has a belt instead) that will not stay on...If I do the belt up, it looks all bunched and silly. I know I haven't lost that much, but people are saying there's a lot that's come off my face. I looked at a before picture yesterday and I'm not sure...I think I might post some pictures tomorrow and let other people decide. I have a charity ball to go to in a couple of days and some people wanted to see my dress so I'll kill 2 birds with one stone. What's the best thing for you about weight loss?
  21. Hello, I am new to this website. I haven't had the surgery done yet but I am very interested. I have started the process by having a consultation with the surgery center. I think I have chosen a surgeon, Dr. George Lynch with Baptist Hospital in Nashville, TN. If anyone has had experiences with him please let me know. I think I am going to hold off one more month before I start getting the approval from the insurance. I have recently sold my home and am in the process of moving. I don't want to add doctor appointments in the busy schedule mix right now. I am currently 280 lbs with a goal weight of 145. I need to lose 135lbs. I really hope that this will help me.

Weight on the day of surgery?

The information submitted prior to approval is the only information the insurance company will receive or require. Once approved, you are approved-period. Once you have that approval letter in hand, you no longer have to worry. They may keep track of your weight after surgery to decide whether they will approve payment of fills, mine does.
  23. After going through 3 months of testing with the 1-800-Get-Thin people in California. I found out that my insurance does not cover weight loss surgeries. What is worse is that I have had all the testing done and now I have over $6000 in medical bills. I could have paid for the surgery. I cried all day yesterday, so I get your heartache. They told me I was pre-approved. On the upside, I did find out that I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and Chronic Kidney disease. I would really benefit from the surgery. But, I guess it is not to be. Feeling very betrayed and angry at this company. My calls to them have gone unanwered.
  24. Hey Everyone, I think I might be in the same boat. I checked my company's insurance policy and it states under "Exclusions" that it does not cover anything that is Non-surgical weight loss or surgical weight loss programs. Ugh!!! Does anyone know if there is an appeal to these exclusions that the company makes? Are you sure you can't buy a rider through your employers company? Girls I'm with you on this one. I have been wanting to get the surgery for over 6 months now. But like most of you, I do not have the best credit and can't afford out of pocket. The doctor I want is Dr. Nestor De La Cruz- Munoz. People say he is one of the best one's in Miami, FL. I'll have to read on those sites that you girls posted about. Good luck to everyone and keep posting information on this forum. I'll take anything I can. Sincerely, NewEra4Ever

Weight on the day of surgery?

Hi everyone, I plan on being banded soon, but I am still going through the insurance process. My insurance (anthem blue cross northern ca) requires a BMI of over 40 because I do not have any co morbidities. I can't lose any weight before my consult as I am borderline already. I am wondering if I lose weight before the day of surgery if it will affect my insurance coverage. I don't want to be weighed in that morning and have anything cancelled for a BMI under 40. Especially since many doctors require a diet before the procedure.
