They technically said no coffee for the first couple weeks lol. But as long as i am getting my water in and not using sugar or creamers with sugar its ok. I just need a little bit in the mornings -
Hi Nikki - sorry I've been quiet on here, had a weird few weeks! My original surgery date (10th March) was cancelled as my surgeon got covid, and then my new daye (7th April) has had to be cancelled as I tested positive earlier this week. I now can't have surgery for 7 weeks, so looks like the earliest I'll be in is mid-May. I'm absolutely gutted and having to try and re-set myself! Hope you're doing ok? Did your surgery go ahead as planned?

Clarification On Revision WeightLoss

Can somebody please help me….I’m reading so many different things on revision wls and I’m so confused! I know weight- loss is slower, but it’s been coming off pretty good for me so far (55lbs dwn) since Nov.8th. I’m stalling now for the 2nd week! (Frustrating, but expected). Where the confusing part is how much weight I should expect to loose, my doctor told me I should loose a 100lbs, but my research is stating something in the area of about 60-70lbs, but it’s also stating something about my weight-loss from my previous surgery(btw it was the sleeve). So if I’m to understand correctly I’m only going to loose a total of 100lbs ,including my weight-loss from previous wls? I’m so confused… -
Whatever you drink/eat before may be 🤢 after. Any of the chocolate protein drinks I happily swilled before surgery-I still can't even look at now, at 11 weeks after. Finally gave the multi-packs that I had stocked up on away. I bought some protein concentrate to add to water from Amazon. Opened one. The vitamin/chemical smell did me in. It all went in the trash.

So, I left work last night and decided to put some of this to the test. I pulled up a beginner Yoga video to YouTube on the tele - and man, I had to stop it around the 11 minute mark. Yoga is not easy! Tonight my plan is to at least do the same 11 minutes again and maybe make it to 15 minutes. I will say, the stopping point for me was discomfort at my incisions... so being 3 weeks out, that is a huge consideration. My arms; however, were shaking after. I can see based on this attempt that there is progress to be made. Personally, I have always preferred Pilates to Yoga (which I'm sure this doc would approve as it is a stretching and lengthening activity). So maybe tonight I will pull up the trusty 8-min Pilates video on YT and alternate between Pilates and yoga each evening. Slow and steady wins this race. -
Hello everyone checking in. So I had my two week follow up yesterday and incisions look good. That left side still hurts a little mainly when I’m sleeping (still can’t get comfortable). I am not on a purée/soft food diet so I’m excited about that. I’m getting more protein in due to those shakes not really agreeing with me so I love to isolate, protein2 drinks and Gatorade w protein in it. My favorite go to meal right now is buffalo chicken dip puréed so good. I have my month follow up in two weeks and I’ll have blood work done to check on everything and my Dr says I should be on a regular diet by then!!! So far I’ve loss 25lbs so we’re moving along. *I had the sleeve done Can’t wait for hear how everyone else is doing?

Hi there I've been taking lamictol 150mg BID for over 20 years for seizure disorder after vrain surgery. I have been seizure free for 16 years. I am having gastric bypass April 6 2022. We did a baseline level and will continue to do a few levels in 2 week intervals. My question is how much is not absirbed if anyone knows? Just a little nervous as it has been controlled so long. Thoughts/suggestions please. Thank you -

Congratulations on your revision! That's awesome that the surgery went so well and you are managing the pain well. I want to get my lap band removed & get the gastric bypass at the same time. The surgeon's office that I called said the doctor only does one surgery at a time. I'd have to wait to get the band removed and wait for three months before he would do the gastric bypass. I don't want to go through two surgeries and my insurance will only pay for one surgery "per lifetime". If you don't mind sharing, what did your surgeon charge for the two procedures? I've read it can cost around 10-12k to remove the band and 20-25k for a gastric bypass. I'm sure it has to be cheaper to do both at the same time then do the two operations separately. No bread, pasta rice & still don’t - they doesn’t sit well. Started cooked vegetables from soft foods so week 5. Raw salad vegetables from about the 2 month mark (I rolled cucumber wedges in smoked salmon & a smear of cream cheese.) I could have fruit from around month 2 too - strawberries & watermelons were my go to. I wasn’t told no alcohol just to reduce &/or avoid for a while. I had a gin & tonic at about two months. Took me hours to drink it & didn’t really enjoy it that much thanks to changing tastebuds. I probably had a couple of drinks over the 6 months until goal. I still don’t drink much or often. Maybe once a month or less & often just a glass & take a while to drink it. It doesn’t interest me like it did before surgery. If I drink now I go for quality over quantity. I was told the no bread, pasta etc. was because they are empty calories & they swell & fill your tummy restricting your ability to eat the protein & other nutrients you need. Raw vegetables & fruit skins can be too hard & dry & cause discomfort upon eating to begin. The no alcohol was empty calories & the whole addiction issue (can’t turn to food so turn to alcohol). I saw a video recently where the surgeon said alcoholism or issues with alcohol affect 10% of bariatric patients. 😱. -

No meat?? I was eating lots of meat & fish from week 3 but plans are different & it is best to follow yours. It is ultimately your choice but I do agree with @Sleeve me alone!’s advice to reflect upon what is driving this craving. Chicken is the meat that many seem to struggle with & find they can’t tolerate to begin so if you decide to go ahead be careful. -

So my team green-lit everything at 1 month, including raw veggies, bread and alcohol. Had first raw veggies/salad around 2-3 months cuz until then, there was no room after getting my protein in. Went pretty uneventfully when i did. Bread I didn’t have (by choice) until well after weight loss phase and discovered harder, dryer bread went down much easier and in larger volumes than soft fluffy bread. Still the same now at 3.5 yes post. I do have bread on occasion these days. Regarding alcohol, i had like 2-3 sips of red wine at 3 weeks post. It burned a little and I swear i felt it travelling through my intestines. Next try was at around 2-3 months post with a soju/sake drink and i had one of my worst dumping experience ever. In all i must have had maybe 5 partial drinks in total during weight loss phase, and i got pretty tipsy/drunk each time (though I sobered up surprisingly quickly) Now though, I’m basically an alcoholic (at least according to the North American measure of it. Apparently women who consume >= 7 drinks per week are alcoholics. Soooo… *raises hand* 🤷🏻♀️ And yep, i smoke too (at least right now i am, i’ve been quitting and un-quitting for the last 2 years) MANDATORY DISCLAIMER: i am in no way advocating what i do for anyone else. I am 4.5 months post sleeve and I eat salad all the time. Have done for several weeks without a problem. I have also drunk alcohol from about 6 weeks post op, again no issue with that other than that I need to count calories very carefully at the weekend when I imbibe. I live in Ireland and it's really hard to do anything social without having alcohol so I needed to incorporate that into my diet pretty early. I understand that lots of people won't want or need to. Horses for courses! -

Yeh it makes sense that your scale won't move much, so if one is focused on those numbers it may seem counterproductive. But when you build muscles, you still lose fat. It's just gained muscles balance it out hence scale stalls. -

I have no advice really bc I’m going under 4/19 also for a sleeve but to say I’m starting to get excited now. I went through the nerves part earlier. But I am very very nervous about the liquid diet I need to start next week. I’m prepared but I still have to cook and shop for two teenage boys so that is going to be tough. Good luck and congrats! -

raw vegetables - I was told to wait about five months before trying them, too. They can be really hard on your pouch. To be honest, at seven years out, they're still sometimes hard on my pouch (not always, but sometimes). This sounds weird, but sometimes when I'm having a snack attack, I'll start eating raw vegetables because sometimes they irritate my stomach so much that I can't handle eating anything else. Stops an attack dead in its tracks.... alcohol - also told to wait a year. I actually waited about three years. I rarely drink - maybe three or four times a year. It goes right into your blood stream, so you get really buzzed really fast. They have you wait because transfer addiction is a common problem. Some people who've never had a problem with alcohol before surgery develop it afterward - so this is part of the rationale behind them advising you to wait. I don't think my program ever said anything about bread (although it's been quite awhile), but maybe yours is one that pushes an ultra-low-carb diet, as many of them seem to do. Mine was a balanced diet, so they didn't really care too much about carbs, as long as they were the good kind. Still, I think it was probably a year before I ate bread. I still don't eat it very often because it sometimes sits like a brick in my stomach. Another thing about bread is that it's not terribly nutritious, and the first few months you can only handle a small amount of food - so they want you to focus on super nutritious things. I think I started eating salads at about five or six months out. -
Yeah, my program was like 'hey, we need room to operate, please try to lose 5-7 lbs the next month, here's a suggestion but hey, nobody gets to bariatric surgery without having tried a million times, so just try and call us if you need ideas. Don't worry about it, think of it as giving yourself the best starting point.' Lost 20ish lbs until a week before, then not another lb the last week, surgeons were happy afterwards and said you did your job, we did ours, now it's your turn again, best of luck dude.

With my lap band surgery, I had the 2 week pre op diet, which consisted of two shakes per day and one meal of 3 - 4 oz lean protein and 2 cups of non-starchy veggies and I had to lose 7 pounds. I was afraid of not losing that amount of weight in two weeks, so I started 3 weeks before surgery. Yeah... HUGE regret doing that. Don't do that. 😂 -

UPDATE: All that worry was for nothing. I passed, and the cardiologist was beaming. He had told me 10 days ago he didn’t think I would pass. I laughed and told him: ‘I know I don’t look like a runner, but I used to run 7 miles a day, 5 days a week. I will do this.’ And, I did. IMHO, they go easy on you when you are over 60 (I’m 67). I did 2 thallium stress tests 18 and 15 years ago and THEY.WERE.DIFFICULT. I think that at my age, they just don’t want you to keel over. So, I worried for nothing basically. The techs at Cary Radiology were fabulous! They could not have been nicer! Everything was explained in great detail. They wanted my heart rate to get to 130 which I was fine with. A year ago, I could get to 138 running around a nearby lake. They were constantly asking how I was doing while on the treadmill. I was in for 5 minutes, they were hoping for 4.5 minutes. My bp was 220/140 when I told her I was finished. I knew to jump right onto the table so they could U/S while my heart rate was at peak. I found it interesting that I was fine on the treadmill one minute and almost instantly I knew I was finished. My post treadmill U/S pix were excellent. The cardiologist was very nice. He told me that bariatric surgery is going to be wonderful for lowering my blood pressure. He said I will likely always be on bp meds, but carrying less weight will make a huge difference in my life. He was very encouraging, and Now that the stress test is behind me, I am really excited to move forward. -
the hair loss is only temporary. So dont stress on it. I dont want to loose my hair either but i have some hats just incase lol Looks like you are on a 2 week liquid diet too. I just got told today that mine will be 2 weeks too. But they provided the shakes. Tho i am gonna get others too. I also bought a little magic bullet blender thing for the shakes.

Thanks! The first week yes, it was a struggle. This week though my body seems to have accustomed itself to less food. It’s not near as hard. My emotions, however, that’s another story. Not being able to use my eating disorder as a way to avoid my feelings has been rough. -
So saw the surgeon today and i will be on a 2 week liquid diet which realllllllllyyyyyyy sucks. They will call me in the next day or two to schedule the surgery. Also paid the money today which was a sad sad thing lol I had to call the bank to let the transaction go thru since it was sooo high. They also provided the liquid diet shakes there at the office... Oh this is gonna be torture lol. I already told everyone in the house that once this two weeks diet starts no one is allowed to order any type of outside food. lol

Thats interesting you do the preop stuff the day before because one of my pre op testing came back abnormal and i had to make a appointment with a cardiologist who then sent me to a testing place to have a nuclear stress test done and that whole process took a extra 2 weeks. -

Before today i only saw the surgeon once for the initial appointment. Which then i got my lab orders and stuff i needed to do before i could move on. Chest Xray, EKG, Blood test (11 different test) , and a psychological evaluation (Which is what took the longest because there was no appointment for 2 months) One of my test came back abnormal which was the EKG. So i had to go to a cardiologist to get clearance for surgery, Cardiologist had me do a nuclear stress test which came back good and i got clearance last week. Today was my 2nd visit with the surgeon and that only lasted maybe 3 minutes or so and was told i had to do a 2 week liquid diet before my surgery and of course paid the money today. I should get a call in the next day or two to schedule the surgery
