"I feel skinnyyyyyy, oh so skinnyyyyy....." So this happened. I'm back to my lowest post op weight today. Yay. This is big. I've been bouncing into and out of Onederland for SIX months. A month and a half ago I made some big changes to my food and behaviors. It resulted in the loss of ten pounds I gained back from my low weight last year up to that point. So today I'm back down to 193, back on track, and feeling great. Less than fifty pounds to goal. I started thinking I'd make a list of what's going right. When I can't figure out why things are slowing down or going in reverse, I'll pull out this list and see what I'm doing or not doing. Here goes. Feel free to add your own tips to this thread. Tracking food in MyFitnessPal. Weighing daily. Going to OA and CODA meetings. Therapy every two weeks. Planning food the day before and committing it to my OA sponsor. Staying under 1200 calories a day. No fried food. No carby Thai noodles. No movie crapcorn. Two fruit or p rotein shake s nacks a day. Measuring out nuts instead of guessing the portion. No alcohol. Healthy, boring, simple foods like eggs and cheese and yogurt and meatballs. Way fewer processed foods. Bye bye bread. Just because I drop it in the salad bowl doesn't make it salad. Log it. (See nuts, measured, above.) Journaling. Listening to weight loss and addiction recovery podcasts. Obeying my band. It says "enough"? I stop. I have found that this same fill level that I have been at since August suddenly is just right. Before these changes, I was contemplating another fill because I was able to eat too much. But even then I would get stuck on certain foods if not chewed thoroughly. I wisely took my NP's advice and cleaned up the food and drink before getting a ninth fill. I don't need it now. I'm at the sweet spot, the green zone, the holy grail of band land. It took about four weeks for me to stop daydreaming about the perfect meal and missing my fried foods. Today I crave veggies and simple meals. It's a miracle. But I can't stress enough how important the "head and heart" work is. I am working very, very hard on the emotional and spiritual recovery from my food addiction. Like every day. No kidding. So anyway, just wanted to share this joyful stuff and ask others to pile on. What's going right for you?

I read on another thread where someone substituted mayo w/plain greek yogurt and added crumbled blue cheese and Hotsauce(buffalo chicken salad). It is DELISH. Can't remember if the recipe called for dried cranberries but I add that too. Eat it once a week- off topic, sorry, Just had to share.

Need Eating Advice from the Guru members!
reree6898 replied to LetItGo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not a guru member yet in my opinion however you may be a bit high on carbs. Of course everyone has different views but I only get carbs from fruit, carb master milk, smart food light popcorn, or yogurt at this point. I eat about 650 calories a day and at least 60-80 protein but I keep carbs at 30 or less on average. I am four months out and have lost 77lbs. I only eat bread type products maybe once a week or so. Just a thought. Good luck! -
February 2016 sleevers?

Me too! though I'm here until Sunday. The mentioned I shoild try drinking water today (I had my leak test) and that they'd try me on some thin yogurt drink thing tonight, but no drink. Given that I've been zipping water and it still kind of hurts I'm glad though. I'm home now! They started me on this 15g protein shake - it was fruity and actually good. Plus broth, jello and Popsicles. I had to focus on the shakes yesterday and got two in. Just drank one on the 1.5 drive from San Francisco to Sacramento. Taking a break and will just sip water. This afternoon ill try to drink a premier protein shake. It has 30g of protein in it so if I can't get anymore after that im OK. Hope they get you your yogurt drink soon. Does it hurt when water goes down or your whole stomach? I drink, it goes down, and then a second later it hurts, I have to wait for it. I was given something warm to drink this morning that didn't hurt so much (was it tea? was it chocolate? no idea, it was brown and milky and didn't really taste like anything) I was able to finish the mug in about 20 mins or so, and bad my first bm after, so things seem to be ok. -

Walking Girl's VSG Story :)
walkinggirl replied to walkinggirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just checking in! I am now 8 days post op. And guess what? The scale still hasn't moved since I got home from the hospital 6 days ago. Good grief, someone take this scale away from me! Surely it has to move some time! I am following the diet to a T, so it has to happen eventually. Keeping the faith Other than that, my stomach rumbles and grumbles are continuing. I *think* I have concluded that it isn't really hunger pains -- that it is a spasm of some sort. It seems to happen more when I am eating something a little thicker like yogurt vs. a liquid. That's all for now. Feeling really good and stomach soreness is all but gone, which is a huge help. -
Ditto to the above. I have tried and suggested the cottage cheese test, and it seems to be a medium-high estimate of your true capacity. I've experimented with different things and discovered the following capacities for my sleeve... Hamburger or chicken breast - 3oz Cottage cheese - 6 1/2 oz. Thick Soup or Greek yogurt - 8 oz. This is what I can eat very quickly (within 2-3 minutes) before I feel full, but not overly stuffed. I'm very pleased with my sleeve capacity considering I am just over 2 years out.

It is supposed to tell you how much your stomach can hold. You can get a container of cottage cheese (usually they're clearly marked with how many ounce it contains) mark the level of the full container, and then start eating at a good pace until you are full and stop. Then you take a measuring cup filled with Water, and start pouring the water into the cottage cheese to measure how many ounces you were able to eat. I did a form of the test, but I preferred to do it in a less messy/wasteful way: I measured out 1 full cup (8 ounces) of cottage cheese into a measuring cup, and ate from there. Once full, I tamped down what was left lightly to see how much I'd eaten. My results were my stomach could hold 6 ounces. I discussed this test with my doctor, however, and he said it's complete BS. He said that cottage cheese is too liquid to really fill up a pouch without immediately flowing out, so while you could conceivably eat fast enough to feel full, at least some of it had likely already left the pouch since you started eating and would give you a false sense of how much the pouch could actually hold. He said he would be surprised if I could hold much more than 3-4 ounces of solid food. Liquid foods like cottage cheese or yogurt are not a good measure. The only true test is to use dense Protein - meat. He suggested cooked chicken breasts (not canned chicken either - too moist). Anything with a high moisture content will slide through the sleeve faster than you think. Weigh a few cooked chicken breasts, then eat until full. Measure what is left. That would be a much more accurate measure.

Low BMI slow losing encouragement welcome!
mrs w replied to itstimealready's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had a BMI of 29 when I started. Started just eating healthy Jan 1, then Jan 6 for three days pre-op I was only allowed yogurt. Lost 5 lbs between Jan 1 and my surgery date, Jan 9. Post op I lost 11 lbs in the first 11 days. Haven't lost anything since. I'm getting in my protein and just barely getting in my water. Started exercising again this week, but since I've started I am struggling to keep my eyes open during the day. Feeling good otherwise. I expected to stall, just hoping now that I've added exercise and I'm slowly starting to be able to eat more, the scale will start moving again. I've started only weighing once a week as to not get too frustrated! -
2 days postop... How did you feel?
JamieLogical replied to BrightEyes42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will feel normal again! I remember that was the question I asked myself most in those early days. I'm pretty sure I even posted it on here a few times. "Will I ever feel normal again!??!?!" But I eventually did and you will too! It's hard to believe right now, I know, but you really really will. As for the pureed stage, I never once ate any actual pureed food. I had my Protein shakes, yogurt, and recipes from this page: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html The Baked Ricotta saved me! -
i also had my troubles eating so I just concentrated on protein. I had 3 protein drinks a day. I used vanilla and crystal lite. Tasted like sa 50-50 bar. Progreso lite soup with no flavored protein mixed in. Be sure to add protein to hot stuff slowly, stirring constantly. And than a Greek yogurt. That was pretty much it but it was a all day endeavor . I wish u luck. It does get better.

Day 7 - Hating Protein Shakes & Worried about Future Food..
AvaFern replied to Jenkins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it makes you feel better, I have had less than 10 Protein shakes in the last 29 months. Past the first week or two post-op, I never drank Protein Shakes again. I went through a brief phase where I would blend almond milk, frozen greek yogurt, PB2, and Protein powder, which is really good and has a ton of protein, but I got tired of washing the blender everyday, lol. You will be back to eating normal foods again and as someone who has maintained at goal weight for 10 months now, I can say you really don't need to drink protein shakes to be successful past the point where you can have normal food again. -
Weight loss at six weeks.. Why so little
psvzum replied to tbehrens510's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was thinking the same thing. The first month I lose 30 lbs. This month I lost 13 lbs. I think I expect too much. 43 lbs in two months is just amazing. I know I'm not getting enough Protein and am thankful for this forum for pointing out how critical it is. Day 61 post surgery and I'm having Chike for Breakfast and yogurt for lunch with lots of Water tossed in between. Pondering dinner. -
Travel after WLS

You can't fly with yogurt, but there are things like muscle milk you can find anywhere. Protein powder is a must. You can almost always find steak, unbreaded chicken to eat. It's not impossible, it just requires some thought. -

@[member="Deb Hass I am 48 and a very finicky eater. Texture is my biggest problem with gagging on food. I have a very small variety of foods that I eat now and worry about that after surgery. My go to is always "chicken ". But that won't help me for presurgery diet and weeks after. I'll do what I have to, but it is concerning. I don't like any fruit or vegetables, yogurt, cream soups. ... my husband stated last night that he's concerned about me finding things to eat. On the other hand if I get hungry enough I will eat. Good luck! and keep in touch and maybe we can give each other ideas. -
What are you eating for Super Bowl Sunday?
Cape Crooner posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
As the chef, I'm just starting to think about this. Any ideas for food that's fun, tasty, but not going to destroy all our good work? I'm thinking about: Trader Joe's has some very tasty chicken Jalapeno sausages that are 100 calories each... Toasted Pita Points with Greek Yogurt Spinach/Artichoke dip... Grill Chicken Tenders with hot sauce and a little blue cheese dressing... What are you planning? -
I am almost 6 weeks out and went to a concert and stayed overnight in a hotel. I took a little cooler with protein drinks, cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. However I did find some reasonable options at the restaurants. So used my extras for breakfast and snacks.

You may want to start your own thread with this question as it doesn't relate to the original topic and may not get answered. Good luck and I hope something works for you to get your journey kicked into gear again Plain greek yogurt with sugar free Jello or pudding powder in it. It is delish and I have it at least once a day! Orange is my fave with a couple orange segments in it! Yum

Hey everyone! It's been a while since my last post and the tag from @@katesuccess reminded me to check in, so thank you for that! I'm back in the game, made some evaluations of what was taking course over the last six months,I didn't reveal anything I wasn't aware of just came to terms with what I had chosen to ignore like those extra handfuls of trail mix I wasn't accounting for in my daily calorie log REALLY adds up like by 300 calories per day= an ENTIRE Extra meal with NO Nutritional value just added lbs. over the course of time!, making the best choices possible (so yes I still ads the trail mix to my daily yogurt BUT I measure exactly and then put it away, never to be seen again until the next day, being conscious of my carb in-take(I realized I was taking in ALOT more carbs over the last six months then I was prior), getting in all of my water and of course still on target with my protein. I've found keeping myself busy is the key. When it gets cold outside its easy to turn on TV and just relax, which is fine but for me this is the time when the head hunger takes over so I just have to keep moving which is a good thing, I get a lot of things done, I burn calories vs. consuming them and I don't have time to let the head hunger register.
