  1. I was beginning to wonder if I even HAD a sweet spot! But 3 days ago was the magic fill!!! YaY restriction! Happy dancing (((_l_)))!!!! Will I actually keep the weight off this time? Really nervous about that. I am too afraid to give up a lot of my clothes and still have up to my size 20's in my closet. Guess I will at least move them to the garage. Is it just me or does anyone else have a fear their band will erode or slip and they will be back to square one?

No loss after 2wks at the gym

Hi, I have found since the band i tend to retain fluid a lot more, i think its because the body gets less food for the muscles and likes to hold the fluid or something, lol i know im nuts! Thing is, if you dont drink enough water when you up the exercise your body retains what is has so your muscles dont cramp. I personally find it really hard to drink enough water during the day because my stomach is so small but i try for 3 litres when i do that kind of exercise. Also, depending on where you are in your weight loss you may be on a plateau. Have faith it will happen Bel

    Pre-op Loquid Diet

I'm on day 5 of my 14-day pre-op diet. My surgeon/nutritionist is pretty much: 3 Protein shakes per day plus any non-caffeinated non-sugar liquids, including broth, decaf coffee, mio Water enhancers, Jello, etc. Basically no solids, though jello and non-fat low-carb greek yogurt are okay. Protein drinks =========== I make my own protein shakes using: 1 cup unsweetened almond milk 1/2 to 1 scoop Protein Powder (vanilla or chocolate) 1/4 cup non-fat unflavored greek yogurt 1 Tbs sugar free Torani syrup (I have like 15 flavors now...S'Mores, Cookies 'n Cream, Butterscotch, Peach, etc.) I have one of those blender bottles. Saves a fortune in protein drinks making them myself. Broths/Soups =========== I'm being creative with broths and adding different spices to different meals and some egg whites to protein the broth up a bit. So adding a bit of low sodium soy sauce + ginger + white pepper for asian-inspired or garlic powder + cumin + cilantro + onion powder + chili powder for mexican-inspired. Just to change things up a bit. Popsicles! ========= I'm also stocked up on boxes of sugar free popsicles which help with the 'solid food' cravings. Jello ==== Ah, we all hate jello. I mix some sugar free flavors and whip in some vanilla protein powder to add some protein. I'll be doing more of that post-surgery when I get to that eating phase. Jello also helps with the "solid food" cravings. Hope that helps
  4. It says surgery on the claim report. Also, it was $3,000 not $30,000. If it were $30,000 I would be even more irritated. I did call the office this morning, and the lady got a little perturbed with me. I guess I didn't like her tone so I got a little ill with her. I asked her 3 or 4 times if he was getting paid twice. She said no he is not, but why is he getting the $54? She said the $3000 was the price of the surgery, and that he included the fills for a year as a courtesy.
  5. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 4/13, and it's been going great. Healing fast, no pain, no problem with gas or keeping down liquids. Going to the doc tomorrow for my two week appointment and will ask this then, but ... I don't feel like my stomach is small enough, if that makes sense. It's supposed to be around 4 oz, right? And liquids are supposed to be difficult to get down, and only a few sips, like 4 oz., is supposed to fill you up. Well, I am not having ANY problems with liquids, or getting down more than 4 oz. at a time. Have I messed something up here? Do you think I could have stretched my stomach already by drinking too much? I'm hoping I'm just a quick healer with a strong constitution...

    Need a Buddy/Mentor

I struggle with the same thing on the weekends! I feel like I am super woman during the week and do GREAT but as soon as the weekend comes... well... it's not so good. I have not had surgery yet but *fingers crossed* that I will soon. In order to break some bad habits before surgery I did a self imposed liquid diet starting Friday morning and lasting until Monday morning. I hope this might break my bad weekend habits!

    So many questions.....

Just take things 1 day at a time. I went into my surgery thinking I was going to be down 100 pounds after a month. (I was pretty disappointed.) It's a process and an early stall is most likely due to your body needing to catch up. I would still take the chewable vitamins because you stomach is still healing and will have a big problem breaking down solid pills. Just do your best and try to rest.
  8. Ok, I was sleeved on June 27th. I lost 13 pounds on the two week pre-diet. As of this morning, I'm down 35 total. However, I've been at that for the last week now. I had my two week check-up last week and was upgraded to the "mushy" diet. I can't figure out why I haven't lost anymore. The only thing that I can think why is that I'm not getting enough Protein and Water in my day. To be honest, I am doing the best that I can. I never was a water drinker throughout the day prior to surgery. I am having a real hard time with this. I am so tired of drinking that the thought almost makes me nauseous. I feel so bored with the things that I can have and sometimes I just plain don't want to eat or simply can't swallow anything more. The next thing is that I'm having trouble swallowing pills and Vitamins. I had always been able to take pills with no problem before surgery. Now, I just can't get them down. I've switched my vitamins from chewable ( made me gag!) to a regular multi, but I throw that up because of the size and taste. Is my lack if energy coming from these issues that I'm having? I went back to work this week after being off for two weeks. I barely made it through each day. I had to rest between clients and even had to come home a couple times and sleep and then go back and finish my day. Any advise would be appreciated!!! Feeling kinda down.
  9. My dress came this week. Petite small was perfect! Yesterday I was looking for some capris for my trip and actually fit into a size 6!!!! I'm sure they just ran a little big because I'm an 8 in everything else, but it was an ego boost nonetheless! :-)

    Freaking out

My doctor's office did something similar to me. They told me they would fax it and asked if I had the fax number. I pointed to the bottom of the form and told them that was the number, where it said fax to #. Then, a few days later, I got a call from them, asking if I knew the fax # to send it to. I pointed out, yet again, that the number was on the bottom of the form. A week or so later, I get a call from the surgeons office. They tell me they have everything they need from me in order to schedule the surgery, with the exception of the doctors referral. I explained the situation and the surgeons office called my doctors office to get the referral. They finally have everything they need. Keep your chin up, I'm sure they will figure it out for you. Good luck

    Laying On Stomach

I haven't tried laying all the way on my stomach just on my side. Im two weeks out and am slowly moving so that more of my stomach is touching the mattress. I would just suggest you do what feels comfortable for you. If your newly out of surgery, like less than a week then just lean on your side or back. All of my steri strips are off, so my outer incision is closed, when your incisions are healed might be the best time to try. Hope that helps and congrats on ur sleeve. [=

Hard to lose 9 lbs by December 16tj

It can be done. I was able lose 11.8 lbs during the 2 week pre-op diet, doing 2-3 shakes a day. It was a little challenging the first 3 days or so (in terms of wanting to eat something), but after that I got used to it, and it was much easier. You have about 3 weeks until the 16th, so you don't have to go as drastic. Did your team say what would happen if you don't lose the 9 lbs? (not that you can't, of course)
  17. I haven't done heavy duty exercising yet, but I've been walking 3 miles a day from about day 5 on. Have my follow up with the surgeon on Tuesday so will ask him then if I have any restrictions besides the lifting more than 20lbs.

    Alcohol?

I don't think anybody would recommend you to consume alcohol only under 10 weeks post op. Your stomach is still healing from inside. It is wise to talk to your doctor about this. He/she will give you the correct guidance.

    Losing Upper Stomach Fat

Question...how do you lose upper body fat? I've lost 50lbs, but the bulk of the weight came off the bottom and only about 2in around my bust and none of in my breasts and I think they are there to stay. LOL! .I lost 3 sizes in my waist, but only 1 size on top. I can't seem to lose the upper half of my stomach. It's frustrating...it makes look like I'm pregnant and when you're large the last thing you want is to be asked is when are you due? Should I be eating different foods ...what sort of exercising should I be doing? I've done the ab crunches, but it's not something I like to do because they don't seem effective. I imagine if I do them every day, it may work, but I'm hoping to find something to help melt the body fat so that I can "see" the crunches start to work. Does that sound stupid? Up for any ideas to help lose the fat. It worries me because it's the fat closest to the heart and to be heart healthy this fat needs to be gone.

    Alcohol?

What did your surgeon and team tell you? You should follow their advice...that's usually no alcohol? Just my opinion, but I don't think you should be considering alcohol only 7 weeks out. Take care x
  21. I am two weeks post opt. I have lost 20.5 pounds including pre-opt diet (10). That has dropped me one size in pants. This is great b/c most of my clothes are at this size, especially summer stuff. I had very little stuff that fit at 20 lbs heavier so I was wearing workout clothes almost all the time when I was not at work. I pulled a pile of clothes off the top shelf in the closet to see if any fit again and every single piece fit! So I immediately got a bag and threw away the very few things I had in the larger size. I have always saved clothes thinking I may gain again but this time I wont do it. I am going down and not up again! Also, someone at work told me "what ever you are doing, keep it up, you are looking good". It is nice to get this recognition only 20 lbs down. I am very excited. I cannot wait for me! I needed this boost to keep me on track now that Iam in bandster hell waiting for first fill. That is all, best wishes to all my banded buddies. Oh, my friend that had surgery the same day as me, she has already been taken off her High Blood Pressure medicine completely! It is amazing what losing weight can do for our bodies.

    Horrible Stomach Pain.

How far out are you? Interior sutures burn and hurt for 4 weeks.
  23. I had this pain. And my surgeon said it is muscle. I said, no way, it hurts worse than the surgery did. But he promised me it was. He said they pull and move and push and shove EVERYTHING on your mid section (includes left side too) I said, ok, how long can it go on (still thinking, I am a month out, it can't still hurt) and he told me some people have to deal with it for 2 months. Then he showed me some stretches, told me to ice/heat it. I am 6 weeks out now and the pain is gone. Trust me I felt like I was getting a b.s. Answer but, turned out, the stretching helped. And now I feel better. You still need to see your doc asap just to ease your mind, but start stretching your side and I bet you will feel better. Plus I would assume its a muscle until otherwise told. I understand the pain, trust me, but it does get better!
  24. A good pace and distance is whatever you are comfortable doing, and is working your heart some. I don't walk a lot since the immediate post op period, preferring gym and pool work to our boring SoCal neighborhood, but I do walk more when I'm up in Monterey (like next week) since there's more interesting places to walk. They occasionally have nice 5k walk/runs that are fun to do - I just did one about three weeks ago in Pebble Beach. You're working at a good pace and as much time as you can spare for it is great. A suggestion on finding a healthy pace is to get a heart monitor - the cheaper ones (maybe $50) are just built into a watch and you put your fingers across the face when you take a short break. The general guideline is that you should try to work your heartrate to around the 80% of maximum rate for good cardio workout and calorie burning. A rule of thumb max heartrate is 220 - your age. One of the things that sneaks up on you as your weight drops is that the walking becomes easier and it's a bigger challenge to get your heartrate up into that zone by simple walking - it doesn't feel like it's any easier, but your body can sure tell the difference. During the first couple of months post-op I would have no problem getting my heartrate up into the low 130's, which is that good working zone for me, but a couple of months later I could barely break 100 when walking as fast as I could without breaking into a jog (which the knees still don't like) This is one of the reasons that the weightloss slows down as we progress - our daily activities and purposeful exercise burns less calories unless we make a significant effort to ramp it up as the weight comes off. Some people on these forums have reported that their docs don't even consider walking to be exercise after a few months because of this effect. Good luck and keep it up - you're off to a good start.
