Any February Surgery Dates Out There?

Hang in there it does get better! My surgery was two day before yours and Monday at work for me was a killer and I sit all day. It is better now. Taking short walk breaks of 4-5 min few times a day. I am worried about getting all the fluid in but we can do it! I understand your exhaustion completely just hang in there and try to move as much as possible. I only lost 6 lbs first week which was disappointing considering taking in zero calories and my dr told me yesterday that revisions loose slower sometimes. We can do this! Don't be discouraged!
  2. Are you going with Dr Liew or your original person? I was advised by some others that they like to wait t least 3 months and Dr Liew will make you wait that time if you are doing band to sleeve revision however with RNY it is likely that he can do it at the same time and that is what he is doing for me. My band is empty (has been for a while) and I know if the scarring is too bad then they remove the band and its game over

    Arm Lift Revision

I would get it revised not that I couldn't live with what you have but you have already been through it and don't have the result you wanted. In regards to the lipo by doing that won't it leave more loose skin on your thigh's?

Any February Surgery Dates Out There?

We should be buddies. My surgery was Friday 2/12 and I really had high hopes of returning to work Monday after my revision on Friday.. That has not been the case.. I'm exhausted and sore.. I can't even motivate myself out to the store.. I am trying to avoid a problem with my liquids.. It's not hard to get them down.. Just time consuming and at this point I want to sleep

Any February Surgery Dates Out There?

Feb 12 revision from VBG to RNY
  6. Craig, I had my lapband installed in 2010. Just last April I discovered that my esophagus was in trouble. I had revision in May. Today, 9 months later and I am very pleased with the outcome with 40 pounds lost. I wish I had chosen sleeve from get go, however, at the time it was too new of a procedure, but, no regrets for me because the band did what it was supposed to do. Here's the awesome thing: Sleeved life is completely different than the banded life. No more stuck episodes, no more sliming, foaming, gurgling, being scared as hell of getting a stomach flu or food poisoning, going to an Emergency room and no bariatric doctor available, fills, unfills, being placed on liquids for 6 weeks at a time, Huber needles, inexperienced fill nurses etc. etc. etc. The very best of the best is that a filled sleeve lets you know when you are full. Full is really full, no questioned asked! This is truly a normal life for me! The only complaint I have, is that many sleeved patients lose weight much slower and there seems to be more band to sleeve revised patients complaining about slower weight loss. I finally put the scale in the shed and go by how my clothing fit. Being scared and nervous is normal as you remember from the lapband surgery. Do this, you won't regret it one bit. jake
  7. On 2/9/16 I had a revision/repair of my RNY originally performed in March 2002. Much like janice above, my original surgery had no real follow up care but this time i do! I've got my first follow up appointment tomorrow & in down 16.6 pounds - feel free to ask my anything Sent from my 9020A using BariatricPal
  8. I'm also in St. Louis in the Tower Grove/Bevo south city area I didn't have the sleeve though... instead I had a Roux-en-Y revision for a stoma (hole leading out of my pouch) repair via Endoscopic soft tissue re-approximation by Dr Snow out at Jefferson Mercy Hospital in Festus on Feb 9th. Possible VSG complication 2 years out

Thank you for the explanation. It clarifies many things. I do not have a"small" sleeve as my surgeon felt that is riskier, so I have often thought that people who say they can eat/drink so much early on (but after swelling subsides) actually don't FEEL the tightness either due to nerve damage or just being used to that stuffed feeling (more of an issue for revision from band). This is why I always tell people to eat by the clock and measuring cup those first few months while the nerves and everything get back to normal. I notice variations in"capacity" frankly based mostly on what I eat. ( note I don't test or push capacity). I still think my basic advice for people is good, but this is new information - and really helps make sense of some things. I am so glad you are able to finally get it addressed. I think a normal healthy sleeve should not be painful, just a smaller stomach!
  10. Yes. I'm 13 yrs out of original; and 8 yrs out of revision. I had bad pains and vomitting almost 2 yrs. and finally in 10/15, had surgery again. Everything had come up above my diaphragm. Dr. had to dissect esophagus, put pouch and everything else back under the diaphragm and tack it in place. Esentially, repair hiatl hernia. About 6 weeks post op, had JUST what you explained. Would have gone to hosp. but literally could not move. Do believe it was r/t over eating. Mine resolved after about an hour. Relayed to surgeon later and he thought it probably was d/t over eating. Maybe you have a worsening hiatal hernia?? Please keep us informed under same topic title. I wish you well. I know the fear and pain!!! Still, for anybody reading; YES it was worth having the surgery done!! Good luck.
  11. Hi all, I'm am currently starting the process with insurance from band to sleeve. I had great weight loss with the band, went from 310lbs to 137lbs, but the band slipped in 2014 and had to have emergency surgery to get it out. Since then I have gotten back up to 280. My patient coordinator is thinking I will not qualify as a revision since I had it taken out and would have to go through the whole process which includes a 5 year history showing I was morbidly obese. Obviously there is no way to show that. Can anyone relate to this situation or know how to proceed? Did insurance cover. Any light shed on the topic would be amazing!
  12. I love the look and feel of the revised app on my ipad, Haven't played too much so far so great!

Well thats good to hear. The lady who I talked to was kind of like "you'll have to talk to this lady to get approval" like it was something bad. She made me really nervous that I wouldn't get approved. She said they only approve revisions on a case by case basis and you have to show that its medically necessary. I meet all of the criteria so I hope it's fine. When I looked up the criteria it said to be medically necessary you have to have a BMI of over 40 or over 35 with co-morbitiies. My BMI is like a 40.1. lol But its over so that should be good enough. I'll just be happy when it's approved. I hate being in the waiting period.

@@Positive44 - I have to ask when can you remember "only" losing 12 pounds in 8 days? Come on honey you are doing fan-freaking-tastic!!!! I have learned (the hard way over and over and OVER) that if that scale stops moving its usually because I've let my Protein drop (again). How much have you been getting? @@It's Time - if you can tolerate the tomato soup well and really want to freak your taste buds out try this: In a pot mix 1 can tomato soup, refill can with beef broth & dump that in there add 1t Worcestershire Sauce, 1 t lemon juice then 13/4c Water - bring it to a simmer for a few minutes. SO GOOD!! If you have unflavored whey protein you can mix in (while its all still cold) that would be even better I seem to remember someone having an avocado craving and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. It was driving me coocoo so.... I invented an Avocado Protein shake for Breakfast this morning and it really help me with the craving! 1 scoop unflavored whey protein (or maybe vanilla?) 1c lactose free skim milk, 1/2c water, 1 whole ripe avocado and some black pepper and salt (I used a salt sub called Nu-salt) - blended the heck out of it in my Nutrabullet and didn't even have anything to strain out -- I added some ice to my travel tumbler and some extra salt & pepper and YUM! I think text time I'm adding a little mild salsa verde! I know I've only had a revision (from bypass) so your mileage may vary on these recipes but with the acid reducer my surgeon has me on I'm starting to enjoy food, even in liquid form. I have my post-op appointment tomorrow afternoon & I'm really looking forward to it.
  15. I was a revision with hiatal hernia repair. My surgery was on a Thursday and I went back to work 2 Mondays after (so after 18 days). I have a sedentary job though and my employer was aware I had surgery. I kept my office door closed as I was still tired and didn't feel like people coming in and out. Look into FMLA. I know it sucks to take unpaid leave but it is an option if your company is large enough for it.
  16. As long as you work someplace with 50+ employees (in the U.S.), then you can get unpaid leave covered by FMLA. You would need to make sure and discuss ASAP with your HR department. But if you have a job with no lifting or excessive amounts of walking, then you should be okay to go back within 2 weeks. You'll be tired, and you should discuss with your supervisor about how you may need to sit down a bit more often than usual for another week or two. I was just a regular sleeve (no revision) and had a desk job, and went back after 2 weeks. Those 2 weeks off, I slept most of the time, and worked on getting in my fluids and walked the house every hour I was actually awake to prevent blood clots... but yeah, mostly slept. I was tired at work, but I didn't have to interact with people and mostly could sit there and work.

Does the G sleeve work after having the band?

I cant even imagine regaining all my weight. The journey has been a major life changing event, challenging, rewarding and absolutely amazing. I am sure I am stating the obvious when I say how stressful and emotionally traumatizing it is to helplessly see the lbs creeping back on. Converting to the sleeve has been a difficult decision to make because up until now the band has been my safety net. I have even found my self protecting it from un-fills and removal. LOL I remember when I had slip and the Dr said he had to remove- replace it, I was devastated. Finally, I had a tool that was working to help me reach my goals. At this point I feel really good about converting. It will be a hiccup, a hurdle in the battle but it will be worth it. I am a firm believer that if something is not broken then don't fix it however, if it is broken there is no sense in waiting any longer. At this point my band is clearly broken. I do not want to wait until I have irreversible damage to my esophagus and there is no way I am going to wait until I gain all my weight back. The insurance companies should recognize the importance of the revision. I hear some are paying for the conversion to the sleeve on appeal. Any help on this is appreciated as well. My Doctor said they pay to remove the band but have repeatedly deny the sleeve pre- surgery. He has been successful on appeal. Can anyone share recovery time stories. I plan on a week. I work remote from home for the most part so as long as I can prop up with my lap top I will be fine.
  18. Hi There, I am having lap band to rny surgery revision with Dr Liew on the Gold Coast. If you have top private health insurance he accesses gap cover, so the only out of pockets I have is the anaesthetist (around $500) and his consultations which are $100 each. He is also happy to email and answer any questions you have so you get to have a fair bit of contact. He doesn't have a dietician or psychologist attached to his practice so he will tell you what to do before and after however you'll need to access a dietician yourself. He was very highly recommended and he has great personal skills. I was quoted $4k to $8k with everyone else too. Mines on 4th March, when's your?
  19. I had an endoscopy done first. I was 2 months out and I was not even able to hold a sip of water down. I was admitted to the hospital for dehydration and malnutrition and the endoscopy was done there. The GI doctor found a large marginal ulcer that I am still having problems with. It was found in November 2015 and I will have a 3rd scope in 2 months and if it is still not healed then I go back to my surgeon. This scares me because I had the sleeve to bypass revision due to reflux, so I can not go back to the sleeve. I was told they would attach my stomach to a different portion of my intestines.
  20. I am sharing my story here in hopes that someone can share information that can help. Three years ago I had revision surgery and converted from a lapband to a sleeve after the band caused an ulcer. I lost 120 pounds with the band, but once it was removed - I regained 100 fairly quickly. After the sleeve, I lost 80 pounds and then got pregnant and plateaued. I ended up miscarrying with that pregnancy but my weightloss never restarted. A year later, I ended up getting pregnant again and gave birth to a sweet baby girl 2 months ago. I gained 40 pounds with my pregnancy and lost 20 within the first 2 weeks, but now I have plateaued again. I am 60 pounds from my goal weight and have never experienced the same success with the sleeve as I did with the band. I feel like the band ruined me. I'm a new mom and want to be the best I can be for my daughter and husband, but I don't look great or feel great and am very frustrated.

    Regret

This is a common reaction.... it will get better. I just want to give you peace of mind - much of what you listed are in the range of "normal". I was a revision from band to sleeve and I had TWO drains that stayed in for a week. It wasn't fun, but a distant memory. I have had difficult IVs too - it is normal and no long term harm. i was on liquid for weeks, no eating of real food for a bit (as a revision, had an extra long time before being allowed real food). The first few months were hard, but staying positive and focusing on why you did this - eye on the prize! and it will soon be a distant memory. Hang in there!
  22. I'm in Alabama. Banded in November 2008. Was approved yesterday by insurance for revision to Sleeve due to complications with the band. Dr. Miles did my band and will also be doing the revision.
  23. Hi.... How did I pick Gastric Sleeve? Because it was what my surgeon recommended. At our first meeting I assumed the band would be what he would recommend but that was not the case. He had done too many band revisions and no longer recommended them. I was BMI of 41with no traditional co-morbidities. I did have PCOS, borderline high cholesterol, joint pain, insulin resistance, and plantar facitis, etc. I assume the surgeon thought bypass was overkill considering my BMI.

    Mid life crisis after WLS

I had my VBG surgery at 35 and lost 230 lbs. Even though I had changed a lot, I had a very supportive Wife and family. I was able to spend so much more quality time with them after loosing the weight. But I agree, I did upgrade in clothes and physical activities that I thought were never possible since I was a kid. Now I need a revision and back within 90 lbs of my original weight, and kids are all grown up. Now it more for my health and to live longer.
  25. I had the band in 2011, revision in 2013, and converted to sleeve in 2015. I lost 85 pounds with the band, but gained back 35 of that (started close to 300) I have lost much more with the sleeve than I ever did with the band. Good luck with your journey.
