  1. Hey everyone, So Im so excited I got the call yesterday for the date. I got next week to visit with my surgeon to start my pre-op diet. I have read so much, I know no amount of prepping will really get me prepared but Im ready. I enjoy exercising.. I cant wait to get back to it. Have any of you took measurement before ? to compare. I used to scale everyday then switched to measurements when I didnt like the scale. Hoping I have over success and balance. Dr's office said my goal weight should be 168-170.. Im currently 250.. I already know I may lose alot of my women figure hoping I can preserve some with squats and in house exercising. My family is supporting me and ready for this just as much as I am. I have my husband and 3 children. Good luck to everyone, and keep up all your hard work.

    Fears...

I was sleeved 7 June 16. Starting weight was 140kg or 310lbs, current weight is 86kg or 190lbs. I was worried about loose skin as well and I defs see a tummy tuck and breast lift or augmentation in my future. But when you drop 10 dress sizes to a size you never remember being as an adult you stop worrying about it so much lol I'm lucky with regard to my arms, I notice the loose skin but no one else seems too and I'm still comfortable wearing short sleeves. Loose skin or not this was defs the best decision I've ever made for myself and I feel amazing I'm now able to play competitive sport again and kill it at the gym. I'm also able to shop for clothes anywhere I want and they're not super expensive. All the benefits far out weigh the loose skin and exercising will help a little if you set up a routine and stick to it as soon as you're cleared by your surgeon. Hope this helps

Surgery Date set yay ! Feb 17th

Congrats, my bypass is scheduled for Feb 23rd. It was for the 16th but my GI revealed H-Pylori. My starting weight was 290 and now im down to 271. My goal weight is also 165-170 and I too am married with 3 kids. I never took any measurements but I plan to do so to get a accurate figure of weight loss. Good luck to everyone on your journey and road to a healthy/better life.

Desperate: any ppl 5 years out?!

I have been trying to lose weight on my own since 1976! I just finally got sleeved to break the cycle, because I would not have even been alive in another five years. With my compounding weight-related health issues, my body was shutting down fast. As soon as I heard about the sleeve, I knew that was the answer for me. If you do decide to hold back, look into the Paleo / Primal lifestyle of eating and letting go of fake foods made in factories. Those of us who have had weight loss surgery are typically eating high Protein (60-80 grams a day) and as low carb as we can go. I wish you good luck and good health whatever you decide.

Desperate: any ppl 5 years out?!

I am coming up on 3 years and I agree with what M2G wrote. Here is how I see it, and would respond to your mother. No, there is no guarantee that I won't regain weight 5 years down the road. I can pretty much tell you that I'm sure I will regain some. I have been maintaining at my goal weight for 2 years now and I know the only reason I would gain would be because of decisions I made to not live a healthy lifestyle. The fault would not lay with the sleeve procedure. So, what is different about that now than life pre-sleeve? Now, I have a tool which gives me the restriction and a constant little reminder of what I need to do. For me, I needed to get over the initial hurdle of being morbidly obese and begin to adopt a healthier relationship with food. The sleeve has allowed me to do this. I could have done another WLS besides VSG, but after researching and soul searching, VSG offered what I was looking for. So, no, there are no guarantees. But what I do know is my history of dieting and regain. I needed to break the cycle. Another thing I also know is that if I didn't do something, I was on a quick track to death. With morbid obesity, health issues only worsen with one inevitable outcome.

    Rebuckling Expectations?

All buckled up and doing well. Back to losing instead of gaining. Lost 8 of the 30 pounds I regained. VERY HAPPY to have this tool back.
  7. Hi! It could be water weight or constipation, yes. How many calories are you eating a day? If you have a deficit, meaning you burn more than you eat, it's probably a temporary fluctuation. How's everything else going?

    Starvation mode?

How the heck can I lose so slow when I'm only eating a fraction of what i was before? It just baffles me. So, I upped my calories and ate 800 as opposed to my normal 600 and gained a lb. Man, this is screwing with me. I wish I was like the others consistently losing each day. Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app

another day in the life of...

My friend Mo wrote that the mood around here has changed and wondered if it was her...no, it's the mood. Shame but it'll change back- I hope. I love it here. I have never been able in my life to be so open about my weight, the struggles and the triumphs. So many people here know my weight and it was my most guarded secret EVER!!!!! :nervous I made new friends and had such a laugh that it became addictive. Now I am just being careful what I read and trying to keep things upbeat. I've had another good day food wise...brekkie yoghurt, lunch two crackers with eggplant salad and dinner mincedbeef with peas and mushrooms in tomato sauce. I put the rest of the meat into plastic bags and into the freezer. I tried doing a low impact aerobics video today but got worried about my ankle and knees part way through and so stopped. Guess I'll stick to walking and keep my ankle strapped up...somethings you just cant seem to win but I aint gonna give up. I want to be fitter and I so want my scale to do down Sunday morning...having scales with kilos isnt fair...we have to wait 2.2lbs for it to go down one notch:confused: Oh pooh bear!!!!!!!!!!!

    confused

I just had my pre op friday and it was with my surgeon. we talked about how he does it, if he thought I could go home that night, what his weight restriction for me is. I knew all of the general stuff but he adapted a lot of things because I am young and healthy...well other than being MO.
  13. I just had an attack a few nights ago where my heart was beating very rapidly, I had bad shortness of breath which caused me dizziness, and my arms especially the right were heavy and tingling. It really scared me but I took a valium (from my mother. i am not on meds currently) with a huge bottle of Water, laid down and felt better within 30-45 minutes. This was the worst attack I have ever had. I thought I was possibly having a heart attack ! I haven't disscussed this issue with my surgeon yet so, I wanted to ask if anyone had relief of this condition after weightloss? Or does this have anything to do with weight whatsoever? I just hate it and wish I could never have an attack again. Its ruining my life. If I even think about a stressful situation, I have to hurry and get my mind off of it quickly before I start getting that panic type feeling, it sucks. Surgery scheduled for March 2017

    NSV & Observations

Whoah.. I just felt a vein in my arm under the skin. Weird.. Amazing what just 38 lbs can do to you... I took the shower chair out of the shower as I can stand now without my back being in excruciating pain. I was able to do dishes without having to stop because of the pain in my back. I don't have to turn sideways to get thru the bathroom door anymore. I was able to move the head of the car seat forward one notch. I have been taking the stairs without running out of breath. I have actually been getting up and walking around the office. I went shopping for 2 hours with very little back or foot pain. I don't have near as much trash these days. My wedding ring is already too big for me. I am more often cold than hot! I don't sweat much anymore! I use to laugh at the teeny portions of TV dinners like Weight Watchers and Atkins... now it takes me two meals to eat it all. Career choices that I had been thinking I could never do because of my back pain... are now a possibility. I have saved lots of money from not eating out as much. My hubby has lost 10 lbs already! And most of all... after being controlled by my addiction to food for 35 years... it no longer has that control over me. My life no longer feels dictated by food... I dictate to my food. What are yours? 11/11/16: HW 380 11/28/16: Duodenal Switch Surgery 11/28/16: SW 374 lbs 12/24/16: CW 342 lbs

    BLOOD PRESSURE ISSUES

Here are some thoughts.... First, glad you are safe. Be glad the Dr was more concerned about your life than the procedure. Yes your life is worth more than 50, and its worth more than 150, or even 550. The reason I risked my life for the procedure is because my life was worth more than the extra 150 pounds I was carrying. I got to the point of, I will die sooner if I don't control my weight, including diabetes and all the other comorbidities I was developing than having the surgery. If this procedure is just so you can "look" better, not sure if it is worth it. When this procedure is saving your life, it is a much easier decision. I also exhausted all my other alternative solutions other than surgery. So that too helped me realize, I either continue down the unhealthy path I am on, or I have surgery. If you are not at that point, I may hold off having surgery as well.
  16. I don't know if surgeons in the US have any set waiting period. I think it varies on the requirements. Some might want you to lose a certain amount of weight and have medical test for clearance for surgery. Most will want you to do a two -4 week pre-op diet. I am going to Mexico and did not have any specific requirements other than the preop diet. My BMI is lower than most though at 31 and this maybe part of the reason. I scheduled my surgery 2 months out so I would have time to research and prepare myself mentally. Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you.

    lost restricion?

It just sounds like you need a fill to me...that will happen as you lose weight, the fat around your stomach shrinks and the band is loser..isn't it great that it's so adjustable?
  18. di1138

    on a downward spiral

Jill, stress is a killer for all of us. Pick up the phone and make the appointment for the fill. You know it will help and put you back on track. Remember all the reasons you had the surgery. You have lost weight and are on the right track. This was just a glitch. Pat yourself on the back for what you have accomplished! Now go to the phone :scared2: Good luck and keep us posted.
  19. My band kept getting looser as I lost weight, until I had lost about 160 lbs and then it started getting tighter. I really don't understand it either, but I've read about it happening to other people on this site. I'm not sure if it has to do with the amount of weight lost, how close you are to your goal or how long you've been banded, but it seems to be common. Cindy
  20. Everything I have heard says that as you lose weight your band will get looser and you will need refills. I have a 1.5 fill in a 5cc band and even though I have lost 73 pounds since my last fill, I feel like it is tighter not looser! Is something wrong with my band? Did this happen to anyone else? I do have a lot of acid reflux.
  21. I hope this topic hasn't been addressed a million times. I am so sick of being overweight. I have not been successful with any weight loss program. I've tried Weight Watchers, sensible calorie control with exercise, appetite suppressants, everything. Nothing works. I have a BMI of 32. I think this means I will not qualify for a lap band. I also have high blood pressure. I hope to go see a doctor at Northstar Medical Specialties in Bellingham, Wa. I will keep reading these informational forums.

    Period changes

I have had bad painful periods since I had my kids. I have Percocet for he pain, I get bad migraines starting two days before also morning sickness as well but all day long. With my labors, I had no drugs and didn't think it was that too bad. As for cycles, mine have been sort of regular give or take a few days off each month. I'm hoping after surgery mine will be better. I know women who haven't had a period in years, then have the surgery, lose weight and surprise, hello my monthly friend. ~Jenn~ Surgery date 5/18/16

    Starting Over...

I was supposed to be having my surgery January 2012, but due to money issues I had to postpone. I have to start my 6 month waiting and won't be having the surgery until May 2012. I've tried doing some diets on my own with Herbalife being the main one, but I found I'm spending just as much money if not more! I am anxious to start on this journey, but have a couple of questions for everyone who has had the Lap Band done. 1st, I'm 5'3 about 270lbs and I want to get down to 130lbs...is this realistic? If so, how long would it take to achieve this goal? 2nd, I have been told I will be out of work for about a week. Is it necessary to be out of work so long? I have a 2 year old at home and I think I would be doing more work at home, than I would be doing sitting in my chair at work all day. 3rd, how fast does the weight come off? I've been over weight pretty much my whole life and lost a lot of weight about 3 years ago...and then I had my son and I have not been able to lose this weight!! I feel so awful all the time, my back hurts, my feet and knees hurt, I'm always tired and I have no energy for anything. It's taken a toll on my life, but especially my marriage. My husband and I are separating. I want to be able to run and play with my son, and be able to keep up! I just want this done already!! Any help from you all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
  24. Walking 5-6 miles every day seems a little on the high side. Is that really the doctors orders? Like Sajijoma said, with this level of physical activity, 60 grams of Protein a day is on the low side of what your body needs. It is common to hit stalls during the "weight loss" phase. Sometimes medicine can interfere with weight loss. Sometimes stress can also affect weight loss. So relax a little and let the magic happen.
  25. I've lost nearly 110% of my "excess weight," and eating normally to me now means eating healthy foods that fuel my body. I may have treats sometimes (earlier I had a serving of dark chocolate covered prunes! The horror!) but for the most part I try to stick to healthy protein and vegetables. It feels much more normal to me now, and I find myself naturally going for foods that benefit me. I feel like I've kinda trained my body and mind to be much more mindful of the types of food I allow into my body. This is the most "normal" I've ever felt.
