  1. I eat everything in moderation within reason. I ate a pancake with maple syrup for breakfast this morning, shock, horror! Not the wisest of choices nutritionally, but normally I have a good high fibre cereal or a yogurt. lunch is usually salad/meat combos - I was just at the shops and had a lamb kebab minus the pita bread, I had it in a bowl. Or a sandwich or wrap of some description. dinner is usually meat and 3 veg type meals.
  2. 30 days, 3 pounds. At least its in the right direction! Part of that time I gained 2 pounds..... The body does what it wants... just keep on with the good habits as much as you can.

    What to eat before workout?

Your workouts are lasting far more than most 2-3 hours? Good Job! You need lots of Protein so the shakes are fine. Other items you should have on hand to eat during your rest periods).... Trail mix Orange slices banana String cheese Apples slices and Peanut Butter Low sodium turkey or chicken breast lunchmeat wrapped around your cheese stick of choice. Protein Bars cut into cubes. Mini fruit kabobs on (toothpicks) Or mini cheese and meat kabobs Pre pack 3-4 snack items of your liking to sustain you so when you stop for Water or other breaks you can take a couple bites of something that packs a punch. Afterward you can eat a light and refreshing lunch like a strawberry, avocado and grilled chicken salad.
  8. I am 5 days post op and have been doing ok on sugar free pudding and liquids. Today I want to try some oatmeal do you think this is ok or do I have to wait another week? I did eat a tablespoon of creamy peanut butter last night and ate it very slow. Also I just want to say thank goodness for stool softeners and don't wait too long before you take them. Have a great day everyone and I love reading the forums.

    20lbs a month

Right?! I thought that was odd!! Their practice really goes by statistics and average excess weight loss per month to calculate this but I think it is really unrealistic for a second timer especially. When I mentioned that I was stalled he said it was too early for a stall. He's a great doctor and I really trust him but I think he may not have real life data about what goes on post-op. Thanks! My brain still can't see the loss even though everyone else does. Band to Vsg revision: 5/23/17 HW: 315+ Starting weight: 294 Surgery Day: 281 Current: 235 Goal 170
  11. Can u get stuck just from eating too fast or is getting stuck always due to not chewing well enough? I ask b/c in the last 2 weeks I've gotten stuck on a slice of deli ham and on a taco. inormally eat that stuff with no problems.
  12. I was banded 10 days ago and am allowed soft mushie food. I am definately not over eating as am having really small amounts but after a few bites and chewing really slowly, making a 'soupy mush' in my mouth, I get a stabbing achy pain in my back, right between my shoulder blades. This has happened three times now. Either I've pulled a muscle (but as a massage therapist, it just doesn't feel like I have....) or it's my bodies way of saying "ok, enough food now. Stop." I hope it's the latter as this comes within 5-10 mins of eating. I'm only eating around half- two thirds of an egg type amount. Does anyone else get this? Perhaps I've just hurt my back and it's still stiff after being in hospital (but I don't feel stiff!) Lost 10lbs in a week, but no more for the last 4 days. Hope this is normal too! Happy Banding :blushing: Gill :scared2:

    Aching back muscles?

I got my sleeve on the 5th, and after surgery, my back was KILLING me for the first two weeks straight! I slept with my heating pad behind my back it hurt so bad the first week! The heat (& Lortab) helped tremendously, but it still hurt a bit... My chiro told me that I had to wait 6 weeks for a full adjustment (same as a c-section, or any other abdominal surgery), but she did adjust my neck and shoulders since I came in for an appointment (for free ). The biggest help was my friend (who is a massage therapist) who gave me a back chair massage a couple nights in a row to ease the pain.... Good luck! It will go away......... eventually......

    Coffee post op?

I didn't think I would be able to make it without my morning coffee. I've weaned myself to 1 cup in the morning, about 5 days out of the week. Hasn't seem to affected me negatively, and my surgeon put more of an emphasis on not having carbonated drinks than drinking coffee.

    Young Post-Op Bandster

Hello, My name is Heather today I am 15 days post op. I am looking for a lap band buddy. Someone who I can talk to about progress and get to know. Unfortunatly I dont have many people who know what i'm going through right now and a buddy would be great. I am looking for someone who 1) between age 20 - 25 (in college or just graduated) 2) banded in the past month or about to be banded in a few weeks I want someone who I can talk to about lapband struggles, diet, and someone to get to know. If you are interested in a lapband buddy please let me know!
  18. I am 14 months post op and drink more regularly than I used to because of how if affects me [be careful!] and I noticed through the months that I drink quite a bit of wine, like 3-6 glasses. It's like I get drunk off 1 glass but to sustain it I just keep drinking. Has anyone over a year out that drinks experience this as well? I'm not very proud of it, just wondering. Ps. I'm primarily a wine drinker - Kaylee Ann ~ Surgerversary 6/11/2012
  19. Yep, call the surgeon. It sounds very similar to what happened to me and it turned out to be a stricture (narrowing of the opening exiting your stomach due to overgrowth of scar tissue). It is a super easy fix - they do an EGD with a balloon dilation. I had it done twice about 1 week apart because it was so tight, they were afraid to expand it too much the first time. I felt better immediately. I did still say nauseas for quite a while (up to about 6 months) and had to keep taking Zofran but it finally went away and I haven't looked back! So sorry you are having such a rough time! I truly do understand! Hang in there! And call your dr tomorrow!

    Fat free vs. fat????

Wow, this just seems to bring more questions. Why would all of our dr.'s give such different meal plans and exceptions for the exact same surgery? They said the no fat diet is only pre-op to shrink my liver, I am not sure if this diet will continue after surgery or if they ease up a little. I hope so because 2 weeks pre-op, and 6 weeks post-op of this diet will be rough...but nothing I can't handle!!

    food tastes weird

I was on a liquid diet for three weeks after surgery. By the time I got back onto soft foods, everything tasted weird. I was a serious coffee drinker before surgery (I live near Seattle, and it's the LAW... ) but suddenly coffee tasted awful to me. Over the next several weeks I needed to retrain my taste buds to what I liked and what I didn't. I think it was somehow connected to breaking the sugar cycle. Even now, nine months after surgery, if i eat a sugary food, it seems terribly sweet to me, and even a small amount of sugar goes a long way. Not a bad thing, but definitely different than I was used to. (I rewarded myself with a fresh-made milkshake in a restaurant the other day while having dinner out with friends, and I ended up giving away more than half of it. I just couldn't handle all the sweetness.) You're perfectly normal. Hang in there - things WILL come back to normal, just adjusted for your new bandster palate. It's all part of the journey. Dave

    Cereal.

That's good tho. I'm allowed bread pasta etc now and was cleared at 8 weeks. I had one gluten free waffle at first and had a half of pb&j on whole grain whole wheat but honestly haven't had it since! It made me feel yucky. You're not missing anything lol.
  23. I was banded on Nov. 3rd. My doctor says 1 week clear , one week full liq., and one week soft. I did 5 days of clear and started on the protien shake. I only take two a day and i drink lots of water. I am never hungery but i am week and i need my energy with two kids and all. About the gas pain since you probably are still using pain medications your bowel will not be active enough to expel the gas out of your body.(sorry) I had terrable gas pains and finally i remembered what they gave me in the hospital post my c-section4 years ago. Dulcolax laxative suppositories. They work very well.
  24. Finally! Hey, maybe it's only one pound, but at last I weigh less than my husband.....(who is tall and slender). Plus I had three other big NSV's this past week!!!!! Posted those and some photos on my Sunday blog. www.queenofcrop.com Wishing everyone a great Sunday.... www.queenofcrop.com A Year in Life of WLS
