Husband and me 2012 weight approx 290

    From the album: Pre Op

  2. Hi all, I had my first fill today as the topic title states lol It was on Wimpole Road, London... by Fredrick, one of the consultants when I had my operation. Surprisingly it was not as uncomfortable/painful as I thought it would be... i was bracing myself for pain! I even tied my hair up........ but by the time I could complain about him pushing my belly to find the port it was done! I then had to drink a cup and a half of Water and was fine, and off I went back to Moorgate for work (I went during my lunch break). I must say I am really exciting for the future even more, the weight seems to be coming off pretty sharp... people are starting to notice it and I am slowely starting to notice my face and in general my back and stuff getting smaller.... Still a long way to go... but no where near what I was 4/5 weeks ago.... Soooo back on the liquids for two days... hooray soups! (not!) I totally hate Soups... BUT it is just for two days and at least it will kick start some more weight loss... I am a bit worried to eat after my first fill... because this morning before my first fill I got slightly brave and decided to eat a bacon roll from PRET! Never will I do that again, I have never felt such panic in my life... my chest went tight and everything! (I wasnt sick!) but it did take ages to go down and I was thinking this is what that 'i-didnt-chew-my-food-properly' feeling must be. I will not be eating that bacon roll again! lol In regards to gym... June 2013 banders, have you started yet? The aim is to start on this coming Monday... What are you finding works for you, what type of cardio? I was thinking of signing up to the race in Hyde Park in Octover for the British Heart Foundation.... Anyone doing any sports charity events this summer in London? Love Elisa x p.s. sorry about the awful punctuation, grammar etc.

    3 wks post op...stall

I too have stalled from week 3-4, I am praying that it starts up again soon. I've heard others say if you don't get in enough calories also, like around 700-900 a day that our bodies will think there starving and just hold onto the weight. So we need to look at protein and calorie intake when we eat and of course our water!

    Low Weight Loss?

I was banded on June 23...when I met with my dr. a week after surgery she told me to just focus on healing...she told me not to worry about weight loss yet...my goal these weeks has been to feel well enough to take my dog for a daily walk..with the reduced calories I get tired real easy, but today I walked the dog far enough to wear him out. It's great that you are sticking to the food progression...focus on healing not on the weight loss right now...do something wonderful for yourself as a congratulations you made it through the surgery and are well on your way to full healing...I plan on having a pedicure in the very near future... We have to be patient...but we will start loosing soon enough...Keep strong, have courage, keep focused you can do it

when do sizes go down quicker?

I've lost nearly 40lbs. and I've only gone down 1 size. I feel better in my clothes, but still only 1 size. I have alot more weight to go, so I figure it will change sooner or later, and right now I don't have to spend all of my money on new clothes that won't fit me in a few months.
  6. I don't even know where to begin. Mentally, I am drained... I had been trying to lose weight for the last 15 years or so, with many, many, too many ups and downs; and in the process gained over 100 pounds. Now in the past year, I have lost almost 150 pounds. As I sit here 2 pounds away from 150 pounds lost, I am amazed (see ashamed, dumbfounded, embarrassed) that even with that much of a loss I have so much more to lose. I don't even know how to feel about it. How did this happen? How was I so far gone? I'd been 300+ since I was 17. This is just mind-boggling. During all the testing for the sleeve, a bunch of health issues were uncovered. Things that I feel like should've been found or addressed over the years as I've had other ailments and such that have required testing, but I digress. Anyway, after the sleeve was performed, I was notified of a malignant tumor on my stomach that was cut away with the sleeve, and a humongous staghorn kidney stone that had taken up residence in my left kidney. I have to follow up with an oncologist to make sure all is clear, and I've recently had 2 surgeries to get rid of the kidney stone. I feel like the sleeve has saved my life, truly, but my God this journey has shown me how bad off I really was (am?). I'm 34 and there were things happening in my body that don't typically affect people until later in life. (I've got a couple other issues not addressed in this post...) I had literally fallen apart! I'm grateful that none of this is fatal and the doctors are "rebuilding" me piece by piece. So as I'm trying to define what is healthy for me weight-wise, I have all these doctors in my head and it is literally driving me crazy. Bariatric surgeon gave me a goal, pcp has another goal, urologist has a goal... Meanwhile, I have tons of dietary restrictions due to the different health issues. I'm overwhelmed mentally and emotionally. This process has become far more than I bargained for. I'm grateful, for sure, but this journey is...just that. A true journey. Anyway, I guess this post is long enough. I just needed a place to put my feelings. :-)

2 Days out, can I be hungry already?

As Queen Fig stated you should get used to it. I'm one fill in (6weeks out of surgery) and still hungry! It's everything I can do to maintain and not gain. Can be depressing but sometimes it takes 5-6 fills to get true restriction. Best wishes!!!

    6 weeks post up question

FYI- I was banded 11/28/11 so we're about one year apart. I experienced the same except I only lost 12 lbs that first two weeks. I had my first fill around 01/05/12 but it didn't do anything. I didnt start feeling any restriction from fills till my 3rd fill in late March. But I was able to eat less those first 4 months thanks to the band. I was starving most of the time it seemed like but the band helped me eat less so I didn't gain any weight during those 4 months. You're in what they call bandster hell, and until you start to get some restriction from your fills, you will probably remain there. But 25 lbs is awesome so you're well ahead of the game. Just concentrate on eating slow, eating small and chewing big because once you get restriction, you don't want to get stuck(and most of us do). Good luck. As forum member B-52 says "Until there's restriction, it's just another diet". tmf

    Personal Introduction

Hello and Happy New Year. You've picked a good surgeon and good facility so you should have had an easy time of it. I assume you've gone through a series of classes and know what to expect and what to do to make your trip a little easier. I was banded in early Sept. and am in a bit of a stall right now because of the holidays. I'll get serious the day after tomorrow, It was time for a break, anyway. How are you doing with Christmas and all? I was going to tough it out, but with all our kids and grandkids here, I gave in. I didn't overdo it, but still enjoyed myself and everyone else. I hope it all goes well for you, enjoy your kids while you can, one day you'll look up and they'll all be grown and gone, While I probably couldn't keep up with them, now, I do miss them when they go. I hope you have a pleasant new year, and good luck with your weight loss. Come back and see us.
  10. just keep doing what you are doing and if you are still finding your clothes looser than they were, that is better than what the scale says as it goes up and down all day long....i happen to agree 10000% with B52.. if you take in more cals than you burn off, you will gain (or not lose).....you have done well so far....just keep going....getting frustrated and weighing all day long will only hinder you...you are better than that..you are a walking/talking success....hang in there
  11. My appt was 1 week post op and I lost 10lbs that week........(9lbs pre op). Has been pretty slow since, but have not gained anything back. Everyone is different and alot of times weight loss is higher if you have more to lose. Good luck.

    Are We There Yet?!

Oh i'm sure. I guess "luckily" in this situation, I haven't lost anything more than 3-4lbs in the past year or so...It's just water weight that changes on a daily basis.

How Did You Survive Turkey Day?

We dont do thanksgiving in Australia, but Christmas is just around the corner. I've actually never had a problem with celebratory eating, I was a little and often overeater not a massive humungous intake all at once eater and i've never ever liked the sensation of scarfing down Christmas dinner, followed by plum pudding, washed down with four or five wines till you need to undo your pants type eating. I hate it. So I've not really dont it. Likewise in any other situation where weight gain was a threat - holidays and pregnancy mainly - I have an Iron will, I plan ahead of time not to overeat and I dont. its the day to day routine eating where I tend to go off track, just not planning, thinking about it or shopping properly.

    The journey to health.....

You have been through alot. Something to consider; how about NO weight goal for now? Or perhaps a near-term goal and then set a new one? You are reclaiming your health, your life and it seems to me that the real goal is making those lifestyle changes. The scale is just a measuring stick; and not the only one. When I was in the 300-350# weight range I could hardly fathom being normal sized. I decided my success criteria was getting and maintaining under 200#. I did eventually get down further, but it helped to think in less overwhelming chunks. Stay positive, I know you are grateful but don't let the negatives bring you down!
  16. I so understand your thread. I too thought the same prior to getting sleeved. I had read and also spoke to others that said what motivated them was actually the weight that comes off in the beginning quite quick. For me this was really true. I lost about 5 prior to surgery and then bam 25 pounds at 4 weeks and then it was 40 in a small amount of time. This motivated me to get into the gym and keep the momentum. Not everyone looses a lot in the beginning bot I started at 278. Then before you know it you feeling great eating small amounts and working out. Now 7.5 months out and I am 170. The motivation has to come from you but it does help in the beginning to get a jump start. Now at 7.5 I loose about 1 pound a week. I am fine with that. I feel great.
  17. I'm so glad that you had surgery so that they discovered the tumor. How scary! This journey is difficult alone never mind with the scare of Cancer on top of it. If you don't already - I would encourage you to go to a therapist who has experience in Bariatric Surgery. Maybe they can help you get your thoughts together. Congrats on the weight loss so far - that's definitely something to be proud of!

    Do I fit the bill

Hello, rdaggett, I'm 63, and tried every weight loss program and failed miserably at all of them. My BMI is 42, and my PCP suggested Lap Band as an option. You're still young. I wasted a lot of years YO-YO dieting, which is damn hard on the body. I have the same problems you have, minus the diabetes, add high cholesterol, I am an emotional-stress eater, but realistically, I'm a recreational eater, too. You've got to know your 'stress buttons' and get them under control. Lap Band is not a 'Quick-fix' but it involves a lifetime lifestyle change. I've decided that this procedure is a lifesaver for me. I want to see my grandchildren grow up. My best wishes and prayers are with you in your quest for success.

    If In Doubt..Check It Out!

Excellenct post Pat! So many people do think that the band is surgical bulimea. Right now I am super tight, too tight, and it is really having an impact on my life that I'm not happy with. Of course, I'm not losing weight either, so that probably adds to my discomfort. I'm doing my best to not get stuck

    Help!!

Okay, you were on liquids, so you colon held nothing. Liquid in, liquid out. Now you've moved to soft foods, but foods nonetheless. And you colon is easily capable of holding more than 4 pounds of food. Also, this time is not for losing weight, but for healing.

    Looking for Help with Insurance

Hi everyone! I have been pursuing lap band for a few months now, with no luck. I'm 22 and have recently visited my orthopedic surgeon where he told me I have the knees of an 82 year old. Aside from severe arthritis, bone spurs, and depleted soft tissue I suffer from recurring patella subluxation. This means that my knee cap pops out of place on a weekly basis. It is an excruciating situation and my Doc says that the ONLY option I have left is weight loss, and fast. I explained to him that I have already pursued it and that my insurance doesn't cover it. He told me to pay out of pocket (I laughed in his face). SO, I'm going to appeal the insurance company. I'm hoping that because of my age and the situation my knees are in (patellas are inoperable because they are "loose cannons") that my insurance company will have mercy on me. I have Humana insurance. If you have any suggestions or experience with writing successful appeals please let me know. I currently have TWO orthopedic surgeons willing to write letters, as well as my family doctor. Thanks for any info you can give! :smile2::confused::crying::confused:

    WHAT is going on? 3 days - 3 PB's

Thanks everyone! Today was a good day - no problems at all. I took it very slow and took very small bites and took my time eating. I seemed to be slipping back into my "normal" eating routine of eating on the run and forgetting about the band. The band used to consume so much of my thoughts but now I sometimes forget. Not about what to eat but "how" to eat. I'm also kind of disappointed I'm not losing faster and really expected some miracle I think after the fill. I'm definitely not losing hope but realizing this will take more time and will be slower than the other 2 times I lost 100 pounds. I'm 10 years older now and I have to balance my family, career and my personal needs better than I did over the past 2 weight losses. Dieting used to consume me. I tend to be a perfectionist and do everything 150% but I realize this is a life change - not a diet so it's going to be slower. I will NOT put the weight back on again - period!!!! Thanks again for all of the suggestions and affirmations of what I was thinking!!!

Losing hair - 8 days post up

It took about 3 months after surgery to start losing a good deal of hair. I lost almost 1/2 of my hair before I reached my goal weight. It is kind of disturbing while it is happening. I had to keep reminding myself that the hair would return. The good news is that your hair does grow back. Things started looking a lot better after 1 year. I'm 3 years out and I have my full head of hair back. A bit of advice - don't waste money on products that claim to grow hair. No product can fix hair loss while you are on a very low calorie diet. I see posts recommending shampoos and supplements. I took biotin after surgery and it didn't have any effect on my hair loss.
