Bren, Be very very excited. lol I started walking 1/2 mile @ 6 weeks before my surgery. It would take me about 35 min . I had to walk very slowly because of my knees. I suggest you start some sort of exercise for 30 minutes NOW. I used the time to think about me and what I was going to do to succeed. Now I can walk 4 miles in 70 minutes. What a difference 100 lbs makes! edie

I was supposed to have my fill last week but that didnt happen. They scheduled me for my post op appointment, which happened a month ago!!! Well, the first appt, I had to cancel cause I had to get my daughter from school, she was sick, and I had no one else to get her. SO come to find out that was for a post op, not a 1st fill. Well, they rescheduled me for the following morning, and I got there, had to pull strings to get off early from work, well, once I got there, I was weighed, all was good, until I got in the room, the nurse asked me if this was my pre op appointment, I said no, that this is my first fill. She said that they dont do fills on thursday. I was like WHAT!!! I was so mad. I told them that I had to pull strings to get off work, and I dont understand why they would schedule me like that. And the nurse was like I dont understand either, that this appointment was for a post op appointment. Well its almost 2 months since surgery, no fill, no restriction nothing. And Im eating, and eating cause I cant keep full. If I restrain from eating I get light headed. What do I do? Im gaining again. Ana all I do is cry about it. Im trying hard to not let it get to me. I have another appointment for the fill on Monday, but, this is killing me. Im off the mushy stage, by my calender, and have been trying to eat reasonable, Im keeping my protein shakes in the morning, eating fruits and veggies. Im so depressed. I really hate the staff at the clinic. I was making a scene, well not a bad scene that day, and my doc was right there in the hallway. I bet you will all the eating Im doing, Im stretching my pouch, I eat get full then I get hungry again, just like it was pre band. What do I do??? Im so depressed over this, I want my fill, so that I wont be hungry all the time. Isnt that what the band is supposed to do?:mad2::biggrin::sad::eek::sad:

Hi, I am new here. Just registered, and I am scheduled for my surgery on Dec 14. I have been thinking about WLS for 20 years. I'm 53 and the past 3-4 years have been bad for me in terms of getting around. The deciding factor for me happened this summer when I went to my nephews wedding. I live in Michigan and the wedding was in South Carolina. Although I was there I really felt like I was unable to participate. I didn't go to the beach with the others, didn't go on the tour of the area, didn't go shopping, etc.... Just kinda stayed in the house the whole week while everyone else had fun doing things. When I got home I decided this is it. and started by attending a seminar and now here we are 6 months later and I am one week and one day away. I go from being scared to death to excited. I can't wait to get my life back. There are so many things that I used to do that I don't do anymore and am really looking forward to being able to do it all again. Wish me luck and I would love to hear some success stories from anyone out there. Thank You... Middlesister

That's awesome, congrats on the great start. I'm a little over 5 weeks out and I don't know any tricks but as I'm sure you hear/read stick to your surgeons plan. Seems like a lot of trial and error on foods you can eat comfortably. Small bites and chew chew chew is legit, my stomach tells me right away when I don't do that. I really like cottage cheese with canned no sugar added peaches. To get water, i have a bottle with 64oz in it, so I know I have to drink that before the day is over. I use MyFitnessPal to log everything and focus on the amount of grams of Protein, Carbs and Fat and don't pay attention to the calories. One thing I've found is there is a delay in how full your stomach gets so go very slow, I ate a kids applesauce pouch while working and just sucked it down in 5 minutes with ~3 ounces and I though for sure it was going to come back up and was painful. Takes time for your stomach to tell you it's full. Not sure that helps but good luck!

:sick:help:hi everyone: I woke up with an ear infection today and my surgery is scheduled for 8/13 next week monday. Does anyone know whether taking antibiotics will interfere with the surgery at all? I figure I have to go to my primary care physician and get some antibiotics to take care of this before the surgery or suffer for the entire week which is not an option. Anyone with any information about this? Knowledge? Thanks:help:

I went and saw my PCM a couple of weeks ago for my yearly pap and asked her about banding. She said she would research the requirements and if I was really interested, she would put my referral in. She called back later in the week and said that I fit the criteria, so she would put my referral in. She put it in for Bethesda and it got kicked back because Bethesda doesn't do WLS, so she put it in for Walter Reed. I went out of town for 3 days, got back today and had my referal letter in the mail for a civilian doctor in town, which is fine. :tt2: But, um, what now? :confused2: Do I just call up and say, "Hi Dr so-and-so, I go referred to you by my insurance company for gastric banding" or what? What about the psych eval? Am I going to have to pay out-of-pocket for my appointments (I have Prime and we have primarily lived overseas, so I'm clueless)? PS- Oh and hi, I'm new here.

Hey! I was starting to think the same thing. I almost talked myself out of the band just because of what I was reading. When I went in for my preop labs, etc. I was talking the nurse about it and she told me something very pertinent to all of us. She said that most of us if we do what we are suppose to do will be out in the world happily living our new lives and only checking in from time to time for updates on this site. That completely changed the way I view a lot of these posts. I think they much of it is really nice though, jsut knowing that there are other people in our boat. I was banded on the 12th and so far so good (except the coffee thing - I can't get that under control). Have a great three day weekend!

My family has been sick the last few weeks, I have been taking zinc and airborne and extra vitamin c. I have been able to keep well, but my husband lost his job Wednesday and I have been under extra stress. I woke up this morning with a stuffy nose, cough and terrible headache. My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday and may have to be rescheduled if I cannot get better. Please pray for me and my family. We trust in God and His timing, it is just hard to think of going on and ha going to wait and do all my tests again. Also, my husband is doing well with the job loss, but prayers for direction on his next path would be appreciated. Thanks to all who are willing to pray Kat

Hi everyone, I have reviewed this site for a while now and am in the early stages of the whole process. I am awaiting the initial approval from my insurance company to get the consult with the surgeon. I am really excited but nervous too. I have Blue Cross of California. I was told by the insurance company that I should get an answer by tomorrow. I'm hoping they approve me although I am in good health just really fat! This waiting game is horrible! I've only been waiting for a week, it seems like forever though. I will keep you all posted. This forum is great!

Thanks! I am having my done at Oregon Weight Loss up here in Portland Oregon. I am nervous (about 2 weeks to go) but very excited too.

Tricare Prime / Triwest MTF - steps to take?
Tantrica replied to justmee's topic in Insurance & Financing
I'm not much help with having the surgery at a MTF, I elected to go to an in-network provider off post due to the lack of qualified surgeons on base. BUT I had no trouble once my referral was in place. TriCare doesn't require the life style classes for approval and they do not offer them here so I didn't have to go to them. I did have a psych eval done off post, not a full work up, just a 1 hour interview with the psych to be sure I was capable of making the decision, a nutrition consult to learn what to eat, upper GI, abdominal U/S, chest x-ray, liver function test, labs, and a pulmonary function test, and a 12 lead EKG. I'm not sure what the case management thing is either, lol. I simply saw the surgeon, had the required tests and had the results submitted to him. He is reviewing them as we speak and will be submitting to TriCare for approval this week. I'll let you know how it goes from there! BTW, I'm 5'6", 245lbs, BMI 40.8 Kari -
Any Self Pay Patients Have Complications After Surgery?
CrazyCatLady replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was self-pay for my procedure, as my employer had negotiated a total exclusion with UHC for our contract - had my procedure in Mexico with a well-respected surgeon. It always amazes me that I, as a nurse - who spends my life caring for people, can't get the heathcare coverage I need from my employers...but that's another rant. Unknown to me (but known to my ancestors, those cheeky critters!), I had an undiagnosed hereditary blood clotting disorder, and landed back in the hospital at 10 days post op with a HUGE portal vein clot. As far as I know, UHC has covered the one week hospital bill that I incured at that point, with no issues...other than that pesky $2k deductible. -

5 weeks and cant stand anything.
Zane's Mom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 weeks out and up till now everything has been super. In the last three days I have had stomach pain in the morning or when I guess my stomach is "empty". The pain is not too bad but I have had no pain before. I feel so blah on the daily regimen. I'm getting burned out on the Protein drinks, any food, and even Water. I feel so bloated. I don't want another yogurt, cottage cheese, Beans etc. I am walking 30 min a day. I tried to mix things up and do Isopure clear protein today and the aftertaste just made me gag My stomach started cramping so I ate a small amount of chicken. No issues before but today I threw up all of it. My routine is nothing different, work, house, kids. Does this happen to you???? Am I the only one who feels like I can't do the daily routine. I'm not hungry and not eating regular foods, just soft. Vitamins are all good. I'm sure it will pass, but I don't want to compromise my health because I can't handle this stuff now. Will I hurt myself if I just stay hydrated and skip some of the protein if just for a day or two ?? -

Hmmm...what will it mean?
VSGAnn2014 replied to psychprof's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you're fine. A general practice doctor who "diagnosed" you as a binge eater upon hearing you say you were a "stress eater" has mis-"diagnosed" you. There are specific behaviors associated with binge eating that aren't associated with someone who eats under specific conditions of stress. As you probably know, there are several pen/paper tests that are used to help medicos diagnose binge eating disorders. food diaries / journals and interviews that cover specific subjects are also necessary to diagnose BED. I think all those need to be invoked here. Sorry about the extra hoops to jump through. This can get sorted out, but it may take a few extra weeks. -
Yeah I'm trying get more fluids in. Its getting better just praying it continues get easier and Im able to keep getting more and more. Working on it and every week it has gotten little better then the last.

I'M OBSESSED WITH MY COLLARBONES! I'm just shy of being a month out (I make a month on the 14th). I've lost just about 30 pounds so far. I'm basically on losing a pound a day. My collarbones are now showing! My face has gotten noticeably smaller and I've been getting all of the compliments! My aunt even asked if I photoshopped my face on one of my pictures! Yes, I take that as a compliment. My body in general looks smaller, my breasts are pretty much gone with the wind but my booty is still plump! I guess since it's hereditary! I can fit a medium/large now in pants and shirts. Depends on the material. My legs are smaller, stomach smaller, I'm just so happy. 10 pounds away from the 100s!!!!!!!!! I've been toning my arms and legs and I've been walking at the park and on the treadmill at the gym. My diet now includes grits (but not often), oatmeal, red potatoes, cooked vegetables, canned fruit (light), diet gatorade, green tea, crab grape juice. This weekend I add boiled and scrambled eggs, multigrain crackers, Melba toast. Next week I add baked salmon, canned tuna, stuff to that nature. I've been doing really well, keeping everything down. Only thing I really loathe is those damn Protein shakes! I'm just so tired of them. I'm supposed to be at 60 grams a day and I'm getting at least 30 grams. But today I started drinking on premier Protein shake in the morning, and I'll have one later during the day. I get really really really fast. Like after about 5 small spoonfuls of grits or I can eat about 3 pieces of red potatoes. I'm still having problems not drinking with my meals. food makes me thirsty! That's pretty much it though, I need to start my Calcium Vitamins today also. So that's on my to do list. Well wishes!

I think a lot of people feel that way! You may gain a pound or two or three even when you start on real food, but just stick to proteins and healthy choices, and you'll continue to lose. Congrats on your 21 pounds! What a great start :w00t:
