    Post Op Appt

Wow. My post op went good. I have lost 19 lbs in two weeks!!!! They did a test and found I have some restriction already so that totally explains the bubble like feeling I get in the morning. I did have a low temp so they put me on an antibiotic (yuck) it tastes like a grinded up pill. I would much rather have the pill. Oh well I dont want an infection. I am feeling like I can do this whole band thing today. I have days where I definitly doubt it though. Mainly when my hubby makes his homemade pizza. (My favorite food) My son cracks me up though. It doesnt matter that I have not eaten anything of real value in almost 3 weeks. Yesterday we went to Chinease and I got a small bowl of egg drop soup, afterwards, he at 7 says, "Mom, when is that band going to make you skinny? Cuz if you keep eating all of your food at dinner it is never going to work!" HA Oh my goodness. Never mind that I used to eat 5 plates at the buffet before, now if I eat a small bowl of dinner I should just give up!!! I love him. Here is to us January bandsters! New Years, New Us!!
  4. I understand going home with a drainage tube for a week isnt unusual, however I have a co worker who had an infection to develop due to it. Has anyone else heard of this

    the first weeks

are you supposed to be hungry during the first few weeks after surgery?
  6. Three days out from my surgery and first full day home. Feeling pretty sore, but otherwise in pretty good spirits. My lortab script is fabulous when I need it. I've been trying hard to get in my water and protein, but it is slow going. I get a lot of bubbles while drinking, even when I am taking in a very small amount per sip. I just remind myself to take it slow, and that this is all temporary. If you have any tips/tricks or words of advice I would welcome them!
  7. Hello post-ops!! Congrats to everyone!! Keep up the great job!! I'm a November 24, 2013 WLS. Seeking advise on what worked for you, did you get weak/fatigue and hair loss, Any suggestions!? My progress: WLS 11/14/13 5'7 Female 47yrs old. HW 268 size tight 20 SW 266 size 18 CW 233 size 14 GW 165 I'm averaging 2 lbs per week, no exercise due to knee injury/pain. Doctor is happy with my progress. I am too, my battle is to have enough energy to function upon getting up to get ready to drive to work and get through the day. Issues I've been experiencing feeling tired, fatigue and exhausted. I eat all my water/ meals/proteins/vitamins/biotin/omega fish oil and average 600 to 900 calories daily, try to eat more to get energy levels up, helps some days. I'm 3 months as of Friday 2/14/14 and I've started losing globs of hair especially after I shampoo. So I'm washing every other day. I was expecting this may happen, but so emotionally distressing and nerve wrecking to see it come out so much so quickly. I'm totally freaked out. Praying it slows down soon. Anyone else feeling exhausted and losing your hair?? When goes the hair loss stop?? Is it growing back??!

Warfrin and the pre op diet

Thanks Restlessmonkey I am glad that the green vegies decrease the effect rather than increase it as I don't want to have a bleed etc. The trouble is everyone is still in holiday mode over here in Aus as the surgeon, hematologist and nutritionist are all away until one week into my diet. I am happy to eat any green vegies cause if that is all I can have I had better vary the dishes or I will go mad. Thanks for your help I feel a little better about the whole thing I was just reading in another thread where someone said they could not take asprin with the diet drinks and that got me thinking maybe the whole diet part would have a big impact on the warfarin level. Thanks again Kristiner
  9. I was sleeved Sept. 17 and my total weight loss is 42, I am pleased with that, BUT looking at my MFP I have only lost 7 pound this entire month. I feel that is a little low for only my second month out- I will lose one pound and stay there a week and then lose another. Blood work looks good, I am eating 800 - 1200 calories a day. I am not getting in all of my water. Could this be it? I am going to be diligent today and this week and get my water in and see if this will help. Any thoughts? Thank you!
  10. I had a couple issues when emailing my coordinator, I had 2 different email addresses from her and at first I was using the company email, than I switched to her personal email somewhere along the lines and she hadn't saved my email info so it was going into a junk file, and we got our communication crossed for about a week due to that little error of mine. I finally called her and asked if she'd been getting my emails and she hadn't been. OOPS! I'm glad you got a hold of her, as for the payment questions, I would just call and talk to her about that on the phone, seems a little more important to hear first hand rather than in an email?? Good luck with everything!! I hope you get it straightened out!
  11. Hello All You Sexy Bandsters! I'm getting banded in 6 days! Yay! DH and I went out to Vitamin Shoppe last night and spent $176 to get prepared for the big day. Along with the DaVinci dissolving B12, liquid Multivitamin (VitaminShoppe brand), and Chewable Calcium, we got 8 different types of Protein for me to try. I got a big container of Designer whey (Chocolate) because it comes strongly recommended, RTD Muscle Milk (Cookies and Cream), RTD MetRX (Peanut Butter Fudge), as well as an assortment of others I can't remember now, the most interesting flavor being "banana Walnut Fudge." I'll post a review of all of them once I get going. I'm not trying them till next week when I need them, as they cost way too much money. Lol.

    A WLS Journey

I am starting a blog for myself to have a way to look back and keep a log of my feelings, attitudes, struggles and triumphs. I am Canadian living in Manitoba. Our system in Manitoba anyway is very different than many stories I see on this site. I started out putting myself on the surgery wait list it takes approx. 2 to 2 1/2 years to get past that. Then you go to a large group meeting where they go over a in broad terms what the next levels/steps will look like and give you a info package and a in depth questionnaire regarding your current health. It was then 3 months after that I had my first one on one meetings. I do mean meetings you do 1 hour each with a kinesologist, dietician, psychologist, and surgical nurse - they go over your current status and set goals for your next meeting if you are accepted. It was again 3 months since the first set of meetings this past Aug 18th that I had my next set of meetings. I am still waiting to move to the next step - my iron levels are not at the right level for me to move on and this is not negotiable. Your Iron levels must be a minimum of 50 before you will get to move to meeting the anesthetist, surgeon, and start the classes for pre-op and post op diets. My iron levels were 45 close but not close enough. My next blood work is around the 21st or 22nd whenever I wish to go to the lab. I will hear the following week if my blood work passes. I will admit though up till I went to my individual meetings I was extremely naïve about this whole process and what to expect and how intense/involved this all is. I have done a lot of self education in the last 6 to 8 months. I suppose its a good thing I do not frighten easy and really do not shy away from hard work, but I will say I thought it was simple surgery and recovery would be a breeze. I also thought we would be given more of a choice into the type of surgery. Not in Manitoba 99% of have bypass that is what has the best overall long term weight loss results and if in the future medically things need to be undone you are able to. The sleeve may be done depending on your health. There has only been one patient once inside that they just closed back up without doing anything- that was because of health related issues and an exceptional case and that is all they can tell us understandably. I am excited and nervously awaiting moving to the next step. I don't think any of this will be truly real until I meet with the surgeon and anesthetist. Heres hoping for good news when they call at the end of September.

    cycle out of whack

Did anybody else's cycle go way out of whack post op? I had surgery 8/13/03 spotted off and on till period 8/22 then fine for a week then spotting until yesterday and now I am having one of the heaviest periods I have ever had. I hate to be one of those people who think everything is related to the band but I am wondering if this might have to do with the stress of surgery or losing weight fast. I am debating calling the gyno but to be honest I will avoid doing that for as long as I can.

hi im megan and im a skow loser...

  15. I am beyond stressing! My surgery was approved and scheduled for 9/29. I had my medical clearance appointment this past weekend. My doctor never sent the script for a spleen ultrasound he wants done because on existing issue I have with my platelets. Fine. That's now scheduled for the Tuesday before the surgery. I had the ekg, blood work, and chest X-ray. The nurse at the hospital said it has to be sent over to my primary doctor for the clearance but everything looks great. I get to my primary today and he reviews it and says there is a problem with my ekg and he wants to repeat it. He does and the problem is still there. Inverted t waves. Said I need a stress test before he can clear me. I go to schedule it and nothing free until mid October. They are going to try and fit me in Monday. I go home and Google inverted t waves and now think I am about to have a heart attack any second! Im so nervous about my heart and I don't think the surgery is going to happen next week! Just venting. Thanks for getting this far lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. Woke up this morning and did my daily weigh-in and was excited (and relieved) to finally be under 200lbs! I've been bouncing around the 200 mark for over a week. Weight is now 199.6...just barely in there, but I'll take it! lol. Getting below 200 was my first major goal since having surgery on Jan. 11 (down from 243 day of surgery). I've also gone from a 38-40 in pants size, down to a 34 inch waist. Really glad I had this surgery!

    Can it be done?

What are you eating? I've noticed it's almost physically impossible for me to overeat. I don't know when you had your surgery but I'm 9 weeks out and I have an ulcer along the surgical line that causes bad gut pain and nausea. Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App

    Just Ate Solid Food

For the first time. Banded 4 weeks ago today. So I chose a small chili from Wendy's. it tasted so good I almost cried! Can a small chili really only be 210 calories?!! That is supposedly right but it tasted so good and now i feel guilty. Like i cheated! I am going to

    Why is it?

I am 11 weeks out and the same way. Some days I can eat more than others. I just listen to my body (tummy) and stop when im full. I have also noticed a difference in different proteins and how some are much easier to digest like fish vs. chicken, turkey or beef.
  20. My name is Sekea. I was banded on 04/26/2010. I am 34 years old and I reside in Las Vegas NV. My starting weight was 246 6 months prior to operation and 236 on the day of. I am currently at 177 and still have a total of 30 lbs to get to my goal. My main issues are eating out of boredom and over eating. I do exercise an average of 2 to 3 times a week (not enough) and I am really looking for some moral support and guidance. Please be my mentor.

    Sleeved on thursday

I was sleeved monday and my stomach is still bloated and swollen. When I had the band done it took a few weeks for mine to go down. It is uncomfortable but I walk, take Gas X, and still mine is big. Hang in there.
  22. Yeah see what this brings. Praying for my surgery date. Thanks for the message. Worked out at the gym today and walked Saturday. Working at staying positive and reading post. Really hoping to hear some good news this week.

trying everything in my power to speed up this process

okay so i met with the surgeons and they said that i need to get a psych eval and take a nutrition class then i can get a second appointment and set a surgery date.... sooo right after those words were said and i left the class i called to schedule appointments even before the doc placed the referrals in.... the psych eval is this thursday:thumbup: But wen i called to schedule the nutrition class they said all of the classes were full for the next month.... HELL NOO!!! no nutrition class is gonna put me a month behind schedule... okay so i wasnt accepting the fact that i would have to wait another month just to do this class and then another month after that to see a surgeon... soo i called back the next day and reworded my question a lil... hehe... soo i just asked wen the next nutrition class was again because i forgot.... then i found out its next week.. so i ran my mouth for a couple of minutes talking about who knows what i was just trying to distract the nutrition schedule lady:blink: who is probably just some 18 year old straight out of boot camp... military hospital for you... lmao okay sorry to go off subjuect but if you folks havent noticed i think everyone at that hospital, besides the docs of coarse, are 18 years olld and straight out of bootcamp... i find this funny if you dont then sorry but its my blog and you should... ok so back to my story....after distracting her with random questions and crazy conversation i got her laughing and then said ohh do i have to have an appointment or do i just show up... she said that im supposed to have an appointment and i said i didnt know that then this lovely lady told me to just show up early and they will squeeze me in and assume it was a mix up.. and besides its a classroom with a bunch of people i would be able to squeeze in... BAM!! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! I AM THE BOMB DIGGITY!!1:thumbup: so i will be at my nutrition class next week... whoo hooo. its hard to get appointment because you have to book a month in advance just to see your primary care physician for a cough... n e ways now that i have my 2 appointments scheduled and ready to go. i am able to set my appointment to see my surgeon... ohhh but they only schedule appoints 2 weeks in advance and they are booked for august.... aaaahhhhhhh:cursing: so i have to call back wenthe schedule openes up for sept... its whatever... once again military facility... i think im gonna call everyday and ask if anyone canceled their appointments for august... which i think is a briliant idea...
  24. I'm not a frequent poster...actually have been so busy I'm not even a frequent viewer lately. But it occurred to me today that yesterday was my 3 month mark, so I thought I'd check in. Crazy how time flies. I started my journey at 244, and am now down to 193, total of 51 pounds. Weight loss has definitely slowed down, but I'm eating differently now than I was right after surgery, so it's not surprising. Generally losing about 2 lbs a week, though. Still no regrets and no problems. I was in India in late September for a business trip. I'd generally stick with Protein shakes and bars during the day, then would have some local food for dinner with my coworkers. I tried to be smart...nothing too spicy or crazy, mostly chicken. A couple nights we went to buffets and our hosts would bring plates of a variety of things to try. I tried everything, to not be rude, but in very small bites. Actually lost 5 lbs that week. We also just got back from Italy last week...too many carbs and not enough Protein, but it was a special trip with my husband to Celebrate my 40th birthday, so I tried to just enjoy it...with very small portions. Several times, my husband and I shared a dish, and I ate about 1/4 of it, and he'd eat the rest. Only lost a pound, but that's better than most of my previous vacations. I've been very blessed in that I'm not ever gotten sick, and have tried a multitude of foods and had no issues. Water is always a challenge, sometimes I just don't think of it. But I've also learned pretty quickly that I feel lousy if I don't stay hydrated, so I'm getting better about it. I'm about another 50-60 lbs from my goal...weight training and running are the next things on my "do list" which will help me get there sooner. My son wants to do a Spartan race with me on the Spring, so I guess that's my next milestone. So zero regrets and zero problems, I'm thrilled I did this. Don't get me wrong, I hate that I had let myself get to where I was...5'4" and 244 isn't a good place to be. 262 was my highest weight during one of my pregnancies a couple of years ago...so I'm not proud of where I was. But I'm proud of where I am now and of the courage it took to do this. And I'm proud of where my life is heading...I made the right decision for my health, my family and my future. Cheers. No matter where you are on your journey, I hope you're on your way to getting healthier and happier for all the right reasons...starting with you.
