Hypoglycemia, 9 Months Post-Op Sleeve
James Marusek replied to az062217vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Several individuals develop a condition called reactive hypoglycemia after gastric bypass surgery. Hypoglycemia, 9 Months Post-Op Sleeve
az062217vsg posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, I am 9 months post op from VSG. I’m wondering if it common to develop hypoglycemia post op? My bariatric NP ordered a 3 hour glucose tolerance test and my glucose levels were below normal. If you have experienced this, what did they do? Is it long-term? Thanks! -
@1Mila You can follow me on here by clicking on my profile. That way you can see when I post on certain topics. I also have an Instagram- ashley_lynn_ash. I will say that, I don't post on social media about my journey. I have decided to keep my decision for WLS very private. However, I do belong to a closed group, private FB support group that is great. You can always friend me there and I can send you an invite. Feel free to message me on Instagram or here, whatever works! I did the same thing as you, I cut out caffeine and soda early on and I'm so thankful that I did. There is no way I could have dealt with those addictions, as well as, food at the same time. So you are doing the right thing! After WLS sometimes your body has an intolerance to straight water. Its has to do with the texture of water (according to my surgeon), so I would start searching now for something to add to your water. Obviously, something that is calorie free. I started drinking caffeine free fruit teas with liquid stevia. However, some people do crystal light or other water additives. There is also an app you can download on your phone called WaterLogged. On that note, another apps that are great to use is Baritastic and MyFitnessPal. I started extra biotin (10,000u per day) 3 months before my WLS. I don't know if it will help for hair loss, but I did it anyway. I take Bariatric Fusion vitamins. I compared the values to what the ASMBS (American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery) recommends for daily vitamins. I uploaded a document that shows what they recommend. It is through a different vitamin company, but information is information! Bariatric Fusion checks all the boxes, except for slightly low on the Vitamin D. Bariatric Fusion is fairly cheap as well. I take 4 pills per day and a monthly supply costs me $27.99. So I take an extra supplement of Vitamin D/Calcium from Caltrate and I take biotin. It doesn't matter which bariatric vitamin you take, it will NEVER have enough biotin. BariLifeVitaminGuidesm.pdf

Where are all the 50 something bypass patients?
frust8 replied to choosehope's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
We have a new poster,on the over 60 thread who is 73, you and I are next at 72. I hope to join you in bypassville in a,month or so. I thought I had finished my preps In January, was waiting on a surgery date, February 20th I got a call from the surgeon's office. The 3 surgeons in the bariatric center had themselves a little meeting, decided unanimously not to perform my surgery. I had dealt with this group of people since August 2015 and I got, kicked to the curb! Why? It is so silly an excuse even after 3 weeks it still doesn't make sense. And am I upset? Yep, one third extremely hurt and one third bewildered and the other third? Pissed as. **** at the sons of Seabiscuit the Horse they turned out to be! I did not see this coming, had I suspected anything I would have severed ties before they could pull such a dirty trick. So I have applied to another program at Ohio State University and I hope it will,be just what I need to gain my surgery, the next step on my journey to weight loss and better health. Wish me well as I really really want,to it to be done and over. Things can get wearying at our stage of life. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -
Today has been a whirlwind! I had my second weigh in with my bariatric clinic and we have been looking at a late June date for the VSG. I would have been eligible in May, but I teach Seniors and we have graduation to contend with, so it just wasn’t a good time. I went to my appointment and was completely surprised when my NUT said “well, you are ready to go!” I looked at her confused and told her that I had one more month of weigh ins. She said “nope, we finally got your paperwork from your PCP appointment in December, and it has everything we need to count that as the first month.” I had no idea!! I was told that the paperwork did not have the necessary information, but turns out they were looking at the wrong notes. So now I am scheduled for April 16th! [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

@jenn1 is so right! @honeyedlife Everyone is going through this journey because they are overweight. No bariatric surgeon would preform this on someone who isn't. That being said, people with low BMI's also have their own struggles.. Low BMI's will see smaller weight loss numbers, which can really affect their emotional journeys. For someone like you and I who started off high, we will see BIG loss and right away. However, that being said.. I've lost 58lbs, 7 weeks post op and I've BARELY gotten anyone to notice who didn't know I was having weight loss surgery. It takes a lot for us to get to the phase where it shows. Needless to say, everyone's journey is different. Stay strong. Stay positive. We are always here for your rants

I do not understand 'no restriction left"
Healthy_life2 replied to sharonintx's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I liked his video, The title is deceptive *laughing* He says exactly what we have been talking about. Patients are misusing the term "stretched sleeve" to describe the normal progression of the ability to eat more food as the years pass. 5 to 10 years a full plate of food. It's the same bariatric basics we have been told over and over. You have to eat healthy and exercise long term. Maintaining is just as much work as weight loss. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1365716/?page=6 The study above is on gastric stretch receptors and the satiation of hunger and thirst. -
Any March 2018 Sleevers?
Stevie the Sleevey replied to NelliSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey everyone! I’m new to the forum and wanted to get to know y’all. My surgery is next Wednesday, March 14th. A little nervous but feeling positive about it. I’m so proud of the members I’ve seen here that lost weight prior to surgery. That is quite an accomplishment! I’m not sure I would have the patience to do that. I chose to be a cash pay patient without using insurance. I had my consultation this week and my surgery is 8 days later! I know I’m moving extremely fast, but I’m on unemployment now and it’s the perfect time to do this so that I don’t have to take off time from a new job to recuperate. I started my pre-op liquid diet this morning and so far, so good. Protein shake was fine and now I’m sipping my water. I’m so ready for this! I’ve been waiting years to have the money saved up. All of my insurance plans over the years did not cover bariatric surgery. I’m so excited and can’t wait to get to know y’all! Good luck to us all. [emoji847] -
12 Days Post-Op Gastric Sleeve and Totally Regretting it
Arabian78 replied to Arabian78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Apple. I was only in the hospital for 2 nights, came home on the third day. That's the standard for Dr. Gandsas's patients. I have tried IsoPure, Nectar, Bariatric Advantage, and Orgain. I just got some of the unflavored IsoPure yesterday. I tried to add it to some skim milk but it was HORRIBLE, like I wanted to vomit after a sip. I just made some broth and added it to that and it curdled like cottage cheese. I was able to get a few bites in. I think I'll just keep drinking the flavored stuff. I have diarrhea whether I drink it or not. -
puerto rican food????
iymercado replied to lorena090's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats a good question. Hope someone answers. Also Puerto Rican and interested in some Puerto Rican bariatric recipes[emoji16] -
Prior to surgery, generally everyone goes through almost a day of pre-op testing. This testing is to determine if there are any pre-existing conditions that might prevent the surgery from being successful. If any are uncovered, these conditions are treated prior to surgery. There was one person in our bariatric support group meeting who was scheduled for surgery. He had gone through his pre-op testing. He received a call from his surgeon to report to the hospital immediately. The testing uncovered that his heart was almost completely plugged and he was about to have a heart attack. So instead of the bariatric surgery, he had open heart surgery.

And I am still seeking the very surgery I was denied on February 20th, not by insurance but by the doctors in a Bariatric center I had put my trust in. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

BCBS TX Revision
AceBlaque replied to Brttnyj89's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello, I have BCBS(not Tx)...the coverage was for one bariatric procedure per lifetime and in order to get a revision approved, there had to be an issue from the primary procedure. Once my physician proved my primary procedure failed (proved through EGD tests, existing comorbidities, gallstones/gallbladder complications that would be removed during revision) my revision was approved very quickly without a wait period. In my insurance submission, all of the test results were included even my gym membership to show I was continuing to make efforts on improving my health. Nurse practitioner or DR- United Healthcare
AceBlaque replied to svckrk's topic in Insurance & Financing
Hello! Yes, I used my Nurse Practitioner for my insurance submission. I've had my NP sign off on one of my bariatric surgery's and had no issues what so ever, in fact it was easier to have my NP involved because she was very knowledgeable and supportive in my process. hey music, i wanted to share a link (youtube). this is not a bariatric doctor but an obesity doctor but what he teaches about weight loss and calorie intake is very useful even for us VSG persons.

February bypass buddies?
JazmaniaRNY replied to RunningLibrarian's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey sorry to hear that. I have issues vomiting and it hurts very badly. Why are you vomiting is it because food doesn’t agree with you or maybe you drank to fast or ate to fast? Just mark it off your list to not be able to eat it if it is food wise. We really shouldn’t be having chocolate chip cookies or anything sugary. If sugar is your weakness, mainly because it is mine, the alternatives. I ordered some items from Bariatric pal as treats (not that I’m a pet) to give myself every once in a while. Check it out or try your local nutrition store like Vitamin Shoppe or GNC. I am post RNY 2/7/18 and had my one month visit today officially 18.7lbs down. Just be very careful and mindful of the things you try. You don’t want to give yourself a bowel obstruction or hurt your new stomach. No one likes hospital stays. As for the vomiting, we don’t vomit like we use to because we lack stomach juices so the acid that helps dissolve our food is not really in our new stomach so vomiting at least for me is very painful because it comes back up the way I chewed it down. Hope it gets better. Food is secondary, make sure you always start your day with a bottle of water then hit your protein source. Vitamins, H2O, Protein is what you need. All I can say is go with what you like weather it is eggs, yogurt, milk, cheese, beans, eat what you like the most and try to meet your goals. As long as you try everyday your hardest, you can accomplish it. -
Where did u all purchase your 2-week pre-surgery liquid diet? What was the cost? Did u purchase thru your Bariatric Center or did u have option to purchase elsewhere. I’m required to buy thru my center and it’s $198!!!

I just got mine at my 3 wk postop visit! They said keep it in wallet because its an alert if you ever needed a Dr or nurse in emergency situations. Front side lets emergency staff aware that your a bariatric patient other side is for restaurants. Sent from my LG-H700 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Constipation to the max - two a&e visits
James Marusek replied to myfanwymoi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Constipation became an issue for me towards the end of the weight loss phase. I would be bound up for a week or more. The only way I found to unbind myself after that long is to use a glycerin suppository that you have to shove up your rear. It works but you don't want to repeat that process again and again. For me the final solution was to eat an apple each night before bedtime. But you have to eat the skin of the apple also, not just the pulp. [applesause will not work]. Other suggestions from past posts are: Smooth Move Herbal Tea Prune Juice (warmed) Prunes (4 in the morning and 4 at night) Magnesium citrate Insoluble fibers (Garden of Life Raw Fiber or Renew Life Triple Fiber). Haribo Sugar Free Gummy Bears [Be careful with this one because it can cause major diarrhea.] Aerobic Magnesium 07 Ground Flax Seeds (but don’t try to grind it yourself). Use 2 tablespoons per glass of water every night before going to bed. Bowel Clear (herbal blend) -
48 Hours to A Day of Hope!!!
frust8 replied to frust8's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have an appointment with Riverside Saturday the 10th If OSU doesn't work out. Will you have Dr Rana or Dr Sonnenstein, hmm I'm not sure if I spelled his right.? You probably can figure out Mount Carmel screwed me over. After all this happened I even made a tentative with my local hospital KCH aka the local bandaid station. They just started up limited bariatric last Thanksgiving. All they do as of yet is lap band and sleeve, I don't want a sleeve, I want the quicker weight loss of RnY, I have moderate GERD, gastritis and Hector my baby ulcer. Hector came from too many NSAID, I was taking 3-4 per dose for my arthritis. I have had the Big A since I was 25, started out being double jointed, if you are you run an 85% chance of early onset arthritis. I have 2 knee replacements, should have had a left ankle fusion back in 1978 when I had an avulsion fracture of my tib-fib, Grant was to blame for that, had my right thumb operated on in 2016, have a plate and 12 screws in my upper right humerus, a Workman comp case from 2010. Oh I'm a bashed up broad, aren't I? But I'm going there optimistic and will try to listen with as open ears as I can summon. M C promised they would release all my records on proper forms submitted. They owe me at least that, d*** their dirty little hides. I don't know what else OSU will require, hope it isn't too much so I can get this surgery under my belt,so to speak. My class reunion is going to be this August,I would like to look so good nobody recognizes me. If you look around to my other postings you'll see I'm pretty level headed and I give very good advice. At any rate thank you for being my friend,I never can have too many of those. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -
This may be a stall. See link below. https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/351046-embrace-the-stall/#comment-3952027 I'm not sure what food stage you are in. (i'm too far out from surgery to remember) Hit your protein goal. It will help with hunger. You might try some new healthy recipes instead of eating the same things every night. Also there are healthy options for a sweet tooth. Here is a link to my dieticians bariatric friendly recipes. http://insidekarenskitchen.com/bariatric-friendly-recipes/

My husband is dead set against me having wls. Any advice on how to overcome that?
Travelher replied to dreamangel1974's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
he is ignorant to the reality. your excess weight could kill you. I suggest you go to youtube and start watching dr weiner's videos. he has a great way of explaining why bariatric surgery works where diet and exercise doesn't. -
Scared thinking of canceling surgery
FluffyChix replied to Sarahrosesb's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. The one thing I would do absolutely before making a decision one way or the other is to talk to a therapist and do grief counseling. Talk to someone who specializes in bariatric patients. This is SUPER important! ((hugs)) -
That’s awesome! Who is your surgeon? I’m with Dr Holliver at New York Bariatric group.
