    Stage 2: Mushy foods

I'm not hungry at all, but I don't feel a restriction when eating food ( yogurt, pudding, refried beans etc). I'm keeping my calories between 500-800 and since being in stage two I haven't lost any weight. It's discouraging but I know it will get better. I know I'll start losing again... But it's still discouraging.

    So SO MAD!

I can't understand why it's so darn expensive for out of pocket people to get a fill. I only need approx. 1cc of slaine and it's going to cost me $250 I am so darn mad. I got an unfill due to pregnancy and I gained feel like crap but in order to get back on the wagon I have to pay yet another $250, I have laready paid $17000.00 for the surgery!! YOU would think that they could make a special price for cash paying people but instead they charge us MORE than they charge or pay the insruances...I am so at a loss now and very frustrated and angry. Sorry!

  4. I'm a little concerned as I seem to only be able to eat very small amounts and I'm having around 350 calories on week 5. My NUT gave me a general sheet of guidelines to follow with no mention of weighing anything or counting calories. She just mentions 3 small meals and what I can eat and a couple of snacks in between IF i want. She has written for me to have an omelette with 2 eggs and low fat cheese and I made an omelette with one egg and cheese and had a quarter. For dinner I have a couple of spoons, if that and I'm done. I wouldn't say I'm STUFFED but I'm full and can feel the food sitting in my throat and I don't want to push it. I'm worried my weight loss will slow down if I don't eat enough and on top of that I feel a bit depressed. How much should I be eating at this stage?
  5. Met with the doc today. Love her! I was able to set my date for September 12. Those who have heard me talk about this I was hoping for the 10th and it would have been cool to get it since I wanted it for the past six months. I could have had it if I wanted afternoon surgery but the doc and I both agreed that this would not go over well with me and my already anxious and neurotic self. Pre op diet is 48 hours. I think I may do 7 days. Maybe not. ummmmm. Oh they sent me over for more labs, my EKG (healthy ticker) and chest x ray. All set to go. The best part (besides the weight loss) is 4 weeks off of work. Love her even more than I did the first time I said it Yey!!!!!! WARNING: I will be (and I mean this in The most sincere way) a complete basket case that morning. Those poor poor nurses

    What am I doing wrong?

Your weight is right on the money ! You should be happy.... Just for the asking Do you retain Water? I do, and I stay off that scale..... I only get weighed at the Dr,'s Office, I keep a purse calendar, and look at the last time I was weighed, then do the math. I am much more happier that way, and I can tell by my cloths if I am losing weight. Be patient,, this is a slow go. Like I said though, your numbers are right on the money. Shirley.
  7. That depends. If you can currently eat less than 1,000 calories per day for a sustained period of time and you are gaining weight on that, then probably no or not much. You'd be better advised to look into gastric bypass or DS, with their malabsorption of calories surgical components. If you can't eat under 1,000 calories for sustained amounts of time (most people can't choose to do that without surgery), or you can do it for moderate stretches and find that you do lose weight then, then yes, gastric sleeve surgery will likely help you. If the meds are affecting your metabolism, or causing you to retain tons of water, the surgery may not help as fast as it helps other people, but it should help. These are all definitely issues you would want to talk about with your surgeon when looking over your options. Good luck!
  8. I was banded in 2008. About 2 years later, I was told my band/stomach was dilated, so Dr. unfilled me completely. I have not been able to go back to Dr - insurance/financial reasons. I have been having issues at least TWICE a week where, after I eat (no matter what I eat), within 10 minutes, I get excruciating pain in my upper abdomen, more towards the right, radiates to my back and I feel just miserable. Sometimes it feels like gall stones...however, my gall bladder was removed in 1995. The pain is so bad, it hurts to take a deep breath and sometimes to even move. I already take Nexium for acid reflux. There's more.....I have chronic kidney stones (for 9 years now) and had a stone blasted last week, with 9 still sitting in both kidneys. I notice when I get this pain, I get flank pain also. It usually lasts for several hours and I am miserable. When I went to urologist for follow up xray, I was told my band is still in place, but dilated...I'm completely empty. We just moved so I am looking for a local weight loss surgeon/dr, but am still trying to figure out insurance issues. I'm thinking next time I get this, I should make a trip to the ER, tell them EVERYTHING and see if it can get taken care of sooner rather than later. Any advice? Suggestions? Anyone have these issues (probably not all at the same time). I would so greatly appreciate it. I cannot go on like this. Thank you so much for your time. God Bless. Andrea

    Anxious

@@cookies_queen - I agree with @ start working towards the pre-op diet and go from there. Getting use to drinking after eating/or before is a tough one as well as eliminating caffeine pre-surgery. Find out if you have to lose a certain amount of weight or if your insurance will negate your surgery if you lose too much ~ before you jump in too deep too early. Good luck!

    3 months pre-op

Thanks! yeah the most important part to me is support. I'm glad i've made the choice. I chose this because I have some spinal issues and so my weight is causing my back to progressively get worse. I've been overweight my whole life. Born at 11 lbs. I'm excited to have a happy healthy longer life and I'm nervous about what I'm gonna look like a year from now. I've heard good things about this surgery and not very many bad things so I'm hoping for the best beginning this journey. Only a few close friends and fam know I'm having the surgery. I haven't decided if I'm going to be upfront with the world about it because I'm a very private person. go figure that I'm on a social networking site haha Anyhow today is my first day to post anything on here so I'm gonna try to start getting involved and connecting with everyone who knows what this whole thing is like. I'm pretty nervous about how it's gonna be trying to eat after the surgery.
  11. I am 45 years old and live outside of st. louis, mo, actually, a small town in Illinois. My BMI is 36 and I desperately want the lap band. Certainly not as much for cosmetic reasons as I do for health reasons. My mother was a brittle diabetic, diagnosed about the same age as I am now. AFter that came her congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, obesity, and multitudes of other problems. My father, brother, and sister have high blood pressure. Although I don't have these things yet, I suffer from depression related to the inability to lose this weight. I've tried everything a million times. I am an RN and by the end of my shift, my legs, hips, and back are killing me. The older get, the harder it is to do my job and I've only been a nurse for 3 years. I am going to my primary care physician in two days and so hope that he will help me. Is anyone out there in my same situation?
  12. Hello how's things going with your weight loss
  13. I am almost 4 months out and have been excercising about 5-6 days a week. I usually do an hour class and burn 400-500 calories. Once a week I burn 1000 calories during my workout. The problem is I eat between 800-1000 calories a day. I have recently increased my calories so I am able to have energy to my workouts but these past few days I am very fatigued and started getting headaches. I don't know if I am doing this right. Am I eating too many calories or too few? I have been losing weight but I want to feel good doing it. I eat healthy and eat every 2-3 hours ,maybe i need a change in a meal plan. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  14. I'm not scared (as I mentioned before) but I can't sleep. Anxious like a kid on Christmas Eve. Today I'm on full Clear liquids. I am imposing NPO orders on myself after 6pm today and not midnight. I'm mentally getting ready for L.A.S. = Life After Sleeve. This has been a loooooong journey. Three or six months is nothing compared to being overweight for 25 years. I'm finally ready. At 36 I am ready to break up with fat and find another body to get involved with. I've been up a while listening to Killswitch Engage to calm down. People say often that they can't wait. I could but why the HE** should I, LOL? Friday is near. I feel like the person who's next in line at the bank. I really want to take this opportunity to thank everyone here at VST for their advice, kind words and inspiration. I honestly believe without this site I never would have gone this far with the Sleeve. I would have nixed the idea and tried another fad diet. I would lose maybe 40lb and gain back 60. Push myself deeper into an abyss and try yet another diet. Thanks everyone. I'm gonna read through posts on here to learn and gain more knowledge. See y'all on the "Loser's Bench"!!!!!!!!!!!! N2B8R

    Need Some Feedback/Advice

If you eat properly, you won't gain after the band is remove. Remind yourself that you're an adult who can make the choice. Your panic is just another obstacle you're erecting. Apart from that, a lapband does not cause anyone to gain weight. It's the individual's choices and the ways in which the individual deals with difficult times and events in life that add on pounds. The same holds for VGS (not VSG) surgery. From your own account, your periods of regain were your own doing, not the fault of the band. The vomiting may be a sign that the band just isn't right for you, but it may be the result of simply being too tight. Even with a too-tight band it is possible to gain weight, depending on what one chooses to eat. I'm unqualified to make any recommendation about attempting to adjust the band and work better with it or having it removed or revising to VGS, but I will suggest that, before you undergo VGS, you be sure of what you want and how much you're willing and eager to make the changes necessary to succeed for the long term. Weight-loss surgery, like any elective surgery, requires serious consideration. There is no magic. Anyone can gain weight despite surgery if he makes poor, careless and unmindful choices. Think clearly and write down your goals and what you're willing to do and want to do. Also consider that there is help if you're stuck. One good possibility is a therapist in the area of CBT and experience with eating issues.
  16. I'm new to the group and just had my surgery March 7th. I have been on a waiting list for at least 5 years. It took me 1 whole year to apply after the doctor gave me the papers. I was so scared. I got the call to start the liquid diet. The day of my surgery I thought I would be stressed seeing as I wasn't really ready for the Surgery when I aplied as well as its a life changing operation. Surprisingly I was crazy calm. I don't understand it. I get anxiety from time to time so I thought I would need someone to hold my hand through it. I guess I was truly ready to change my life. Pre-op I lost 15 pounds and to date (9 Days post) I have lost 27.8 pounds. It's so exciting. I'm now in the 200's that I have not seen in 3 years. Gained almost 50 pounds after deciding to quit smoking. [emoji377] Getting my protine intake is a struggle and truly hard work. Just never hungry and hiccups 24/7. Even in my sleep. [emoji99] NO regrets. I see a huge difference already and this is just the beginning of my new life. #Healthymindhealthyhearthealthybody [emoji307]MelissaEC[emoji307]

    I am a believer!!!!

Lila, I notice you joined in Aug 06. Do you feel like it has taken so long to lose your weight. I have about the same to lose and I feel like it is going to take forever!!
  18. I appreciate your responses!!!!! I was thinking that there was something wrong with me. I will be two weeks post op tomorrow (I could cry with joy!!!). This has been an experience, but there is so much that I still don't know and feel stupid for even asking, now I know how some of my students feel. You would think that a grown women would know these things before having a life changing surgery but it happened so quick, my mind is still wrapping around the fact that it is done. The hunger is going away slowly but I have incorporated cottage cheese and small bites of chicken on some days, but after a few bites I am full for the rest of the day. The scales are not showing much weight loss but my nutritionist stated that it all depends on how much weight you have to lose pre and post surgery, I think that I may have lost eight pounds, but I am drinking so much fluid so I did not know if that could be the cause. I am trying to not get down as I thought that I would have lost more by now. Have any of you all struggled with losing right after surgery? Remind you I had lap band revision as I started out around 220 before the lapband and then had the gastric bypass two weeks ago and before going into surgery weighed 165lbs. I welcome any suggestions and or thoughts. Once again I want to THANK YOU for taking the time and helping and supporting me with these questions. I have introduced my friend that is starting the weight loss journey and encouraged her to join as it would be very beneficial for her to have support as well.

    The Neverending period

Just wanted to add to this thread that I've currently had a period for over a month. My Ob/Gyn put me on 10 day progesterone and now that I'm done with the pills, my period has become even worse. I'm going through superplus tampons every 1-2 hours. I'm feeling very week. I go to the Ob/Gyn tomorrow and she's talked about going on birth control pills. I have PCOS and am scared about going on birth control pills as I've had issues with fertility. Anyone else going through this? How long did it take to regulate? I'm really hoping this is just estrogen leaving my body, but I wish it would give me a break... I've been on a stall on my weight loss for just as long.
  20. Hi: I had my lap band surgery June 5, on June 23 I had a DVT (blood clot) in my left leg. I had lost 12 pounds but quickly gained it back. I had my first fill July 30, but I am still not losing weight. Any of you had problems with coumadin? Please write back.

Being a female, will my fills ever stop?

Dont get discouraged. I have a 10cc band and until I reached 8.5 cc, i didnt feel total restriction. Now I get full after about a half cup of food, if even that, and am losing weight like gangbusters. I have been banded nearly 3 years and it has taken me this long to lose 103 lbs. Dont give up, restriction will come!

    Surgery in one month...

You will do fine, just hang in there. To answer some questions, it depends on you, everyone is a little different. I had surgery on a Thursday was ready to be released on Saturday, stayed until Sunday to have a day off IV and get used to drinking Water. On Monday I was driving and felt fine. I worked part time the first week and full time second week but I do have my own business and had need. Only pain post surgery was sleeping prone. I had to sleep in recliner for a week until I could stretch out flat on a bed due to staples being pulled from being stretched out on a bed. I got back to gym at week three. First week rough could only walk at first for 15 minutes, got back up to running 30 minutes by third week of being back to training and was adding weight/resistance training. I use a personal trainer. From week three to week 5 of exercise I sweated a lot in part due to rapid weight loss, insufficient calories and reduce carbs. Week 6 I stabilized weight loss, increased carbs before working out and sweating reduced to normal levels for a one hour workout, even sweated less than before surgery. This puts me at week 8 postop and I feel great. Don't know if my hair loss has increased, it seems I lost a little but not much. I believe one of the B Vitamins help with hair loss. There are several ways of dealing with it so don't let it worry you. Good luck with the surgery and enjoy the new healthier you.
  25. Here's the deal..........you already lose hair every single day of you life. You regrow it and don't even notice. Things get a bit off kilter during rapid weight loss. Hair may not regrow as fast as you normally do during this phase.....but you will return to normal rates afterwards. Don't sweat it.......lose the weight....and deal with the issues that may or may not present themselves during the process. It's all good.
