  1. People often ask me what's it like post op. I'm almost 4 months out. My explanation. Have you ever been around a baby when it's being fed? Yep that's me. They eat one bite yay, then the second. If my tummy decided it didn't like the first, even if it did 100x before. You guessed it out it comes. So the story of my new life. Finally able to eat eggs and sausage for a few weeks. The inside of a sausage burrito from McD's. This morning "roo" my pouch says nope I no longer like that. After working a 10 hour shift at one client on my way to a 5 hour client now I just want to go home and hug my specially devoted trash can. Ugg. So I regret my decision, not one bit, but some "roo" cooperation would be nice Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App
  2. I had a 10 day pre-op diet and the first 3-4 days weren't fun but I think it was because I cut out caffeine and practically lived on it before. I can e mail you my diet plan if you'd like. Just send me a message w/ your e mail address. I got a little bit of food because I am diabetic, but it was all high protein and very small quantities. I lost 21 lbs in 10 days on the diet though. Good luck!
  3. 9.2 cc's in a 10 cc band? I'm going to guess with those numbers someone miscalculated...I know it's a 5cc difference, but still.... Have you ever had any restriction or feedback from your band?
  4. At two weeks I was still on liquids (no way I could eat more than a couple tablespoons even at a month out). But I was sipping Protein shakes, juice, Gatorade, decaf tea, broth, cream soups, drinkable yogurt, etc non stop all day every day, taking my Vitamins and meeting Fluid and protein goals. I was working 8-10 hours/day at a physical, on my feet all day job and went home pretty tired every night. So a family reunion would have been a piece of cake. Hope you have just as easy if a recovery and Have fun! PS I don't suggest trying anything new, food wise, at the reunion. Would hate to have a bad reaction (from either end) in that setting.

    11-10-06 First Liquid Diet Day...

So...today was my first day of the liquid diet and the day is almost over, thank goodness! :faint: It was difficult. I am glad that I have been preparing myself b/c it would have been so much more unmanagable if I hadnt. Here is what I had today. Breakfast: 1 Target "slimfast" shake Lunch: 1 Yoplait Yogart Smoothie Dinner: 1 can of cheese soup *I cheated a bit here with the fat content of the soup I also had about 20 oz. of water all together, which I need to hydrate more than this! Today I went to GNC and purchased protein shake powder. GNC was having a special on their brand of products were it was buy one get one 50% off. So I got two very large tubs of protein powder for under $50! I am going to try and make one tonight...we'll see how it goes.
  6. I was banded on 9/14, and it took me a good 10-12 days before my largest incision area stopped hurting. I didn't wear a real underwire bra until this past weekend. Sports bras help to at least give you some support if you are top heavy. As far as going to the bathroom, I was lucky enough to have a doorway next to the toilet that I could use to pull myself back up. It's amazing how many abdominal muscles we use for everyday activities! I also agree with the poster who said not to sit up completely straight. I put a bunch of pillows behind me on the sofa so I was supported, but still leaning back a little. That helped relieve some of the pressure on the port area. You are still more swollen on the inside than you think you are. Good luck, and remember, it does get better!
  7. I was banded 3/20/10 and feel that I'm ready for my 1st fill since the swelling has just about gone down and my incisions are healed excepted for the port site which is still a little sore. My question is this: Has anyone gotten a fill before their port site was completely healed? If so what was the experience like? I'm a little apprehensive but am anxious to move on to the next phase...
  8. Good Morning Mikeyy, it's only a little after 7AM in the Eastern Time zone of the USA, many seem to be sleeping in. Elcee is Ballarat Victoria, my Friend Taoz is also in Australia. I think either of them could turn you on others "down under" I'll puzzle on this, see if I can think of some more people. Had my own RnY almost 10 weeks ago at 72, not doing perfect with recovery but I am fixable. Wiley Coyote , the cartoon character always talked about his "Great Brain", let's see what mine comes up with. I live in a small city of 20,000 called Mount Vernon, 48. miles from Columbus, maybe 80 km ? where I had my surgery, Ohio born, Ohio bred, my family has been here since Indian Days. Quick joke: Do you know what is said about people excessively proud of ancestors? They are like potatoes, the most important part of them is found already underground! That's me, a tad saucy and flippant!
  9. How's everyone doing? I am honking along but not losing weight as fast as I liked so I went back to tracking and discovering some nasty little carbs that have mysteriously come back. Hoping to get back on track. I'd like to drop 10 more pounds before I start driving a truck again. At least I am not gaining which is important!

    Greetings

I was excited when I found out that I could have SlimFast because it is a shake that I can tolerate. I have not tried any other shakes. I guess I need to venture out, but I'll do it another time I am just trying to stay focused. I was told that my shake had to be no more that 220 calories and no more than 10 gr of fat. So that put a limit on my shake issue.

    Antibiotics - Pre Op

I would check with your Band doctor and let them know that you were taking the antibiotics. The important thing now is how are you feeling? Are the flu symptoms gone? Did you take the whole prescription of antibiotics. Typically they only give like a 10 to 14 day prescription. That is how long the flu or specifically how long it takes for the antibiotic to get rid of it. The thing I always get a kick out of is that flus and colds are all viruses. They should really prescribe an antifungal instead of antibiotic but I guess they have their reasons. LOL!! Bottom line is call your band doctor tell him that you were taking the antibiotic and see what he says. Bloodwork could show you have this drug in your system but I am not sure it would show that. But they might want to see how the drug affected your red cells, white cells, and platelets. I don't know what drug you were prescribed. IF your white cells are elevated then they might hold off on the surgery till it is lower. I don't know what the criteria would be for them to hold off on the surgery. That is another question for the band surgeon.

    4 Month Update!

WOW!!!! Huge Congrats to you! You must be soooo proud I've got my first fill tomorrow morning -- totally nervous about it even though I know it's silly to be -- but I really hope I'm as successful as you! 10 pounds a month is great!

What were your insurance company requirements for approval?

I am SO mad!!!! You would not believe what someone at my insurance company emailed me with!!!! I spent ALL day yesterday driving 6 hours to and from my surgeons office and the hospital to do pre op testing and when I got home last night, BS of CA sent me an email that stated I had not been approved for this procedure!!!! I was so mad that I called and got some young gal who didn't know anything and couldn't find my approval. She told me to call again today. Today I called and got hold of a woman that took 10 minutes to find it, but DID find it. She then told me that she was going to find the person that sent me the email and call them to straighten them out. I was asking them about travel reimbursements and instead they sent me into this emotional whirlwind. I'm so mad.:wink2:

I need to make a decision

I chose the sleeve even though I have an enormous amount of weight to lose. The doctor even suggested in the first few meetings that I should do the bypass. But I had taken 10 years to make the decision to have the surgery and I knew that I didn't want all of the issues associated with the bypass. I was willing to settle for not reaching my ideal weight and simply getting healthier with the sleeve. I had the surgery 12-12-18, I'm down a total of 93 pounds since I started the entire journey 6-1-18 and I don't regret a thing. Even only 6 months out, I can just about eat anything, albeit it in very small amounts, and have not had dumping or any issues (except chronically low iron, which might not even be related). I guess my only advice is don't be pressured into having the more extensive surgery. Do what's right for you and your goals.
  16. I had rny 6 months ago. Decaf was fine for me, but it tasted horrible to me (I’m sure this was a mental thing) after about a month or so when everything was healed up, I went back to regular. I have one fried that is 10 years out, one that is 5, and one that is a year and none have had any issues from “real” coffee
  17. Not yet...I go on the 23rd to learn all about that fun part...lol..I do know it's 10 days and it's some kind of protein drink...
  18. I had about 10 spree tart candies this evening..just a confession...they were delicious...I'm gonna blame pms..hopefully my body will accept that bit of sugar graciously and put an end to this stall already.

Upset about weight loss, not sure what to do

I found two interesting slideshows on the site Matt recommended to calculate one's BMR. https://www.active.com/fitness/articles/10-surprising-reasons-you-re-not-losing-weight https://www.active.com/food-and-nutrition/articles/8-ways-to-eat-more-protein Obviously, some of us haven't graduated to some of the foods suggested... yet. I'm not terribly disappointed in not being able to eat turkey jerky anyway.
  20. I get sleeved on 9-20-2012. I get moments of anxiety where I question whether I've made the right decision or not. I know that I have. I guess I'm faced with this same anxiety when it comes to any big decision in my life. I start my liquid diet this Thursday the 6th for two weeks. Friday is Pre-Op. Friday the 14th is my EGD and then the 20th is D-Day! I went through a whole month of waiting for the appointments to get here and now they are here and the anxiety is sneaking in! I guess I'm excited AND scared at the same time . I am looking forward to being healthy. It's not a size or a look that is my goal. It is to be off medications and living healthy. I want to have the ability to go for a walk with my husband and not worry about passing out 1/2 way through the adventure. I want to go to the zoo without passing out or having to sit every 5 minutes because of back and knee pain. I want to fly without infringing upon my neighbor's space. It's been too long coming for me. Early on when I made my decision to get sleeved, I went out and purchased some protein powder and a few other things 'just to see' how horrific it was going to be. Honestly, it isn't going to be that bad for me. Since I HATE chocolate and sweets for the most part, it's going to be hard for that reason. I don't think the protein shakes are that horrible especially since I'll be using Vanilla flavored and you can add just about anything to that to make it palatable and versatile. My husband and grown sons are amazing with their support. Only one other person knows and he is a co-worker. The only reason I told him is because he's getting sleeved on 10-23-2012. We'll be sleeve partners at work. I'm lucky in that respect. The only thing that I worry about is when the pounds start dropping off that I don't sabotage myself. I see a bit of success and then I have to go and ruin it by overeating to celebrate. Crazy, I know. I can do this. I will succeed. This forum has really been a source of comfort and knowledge. I thank you all!

    Post-surgery

My surgery was June 4, 2018. Today is June7. Just had my first shower and feeling like million bucks. First couple of days were rough but now I can actually stand up without lots of pain. Feeling very optimistic. I can do this. Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Hello ! :) *sorry this will be long* I created an account because I really needed to talk to someone who understands what I’m going through. I have a lot of support from family and friends but all they can tell me is “hang in there” I need some sort of answers because I’ve been really regretting this surgery. I need to know that things will eventually turn around because I don’t know how long I can keep living like this. After my surgery (1/22/2020) I was admitted 3 times back into the hospital due to dehydration, nausea and vomiting. The dates were : Feb 3rd to 6th Feb 15th to 18th Feb 27th to Mar 3rd After those dates the doctors that I spoke to thought it would be a good idea to get fluids every other day in my hospitals infusion center. I went 2 days and was feeling fine, was able to eat - no nausea or vomiting. With COVID-19 being a very serious thing my hospitals infusion center is closed and i’m not sure for how long. I ended up becoming weak and all the symptoms for dehydration came back. I went to the ER, they gave me my fluids and I went home but I’m still dealing with nausea and GERD. I’ve been dealing with kinda slimy saliva and foamy vomit and it’s after any little thing I eat or drink. EVEN WATER and it’s upsetting I don’t know what to do, I don’t want to go back to the hospital with everything happening now. Can someone help please? If anyone had time to read this thank you I’m sorry it was long I’m just desperate and have been depressed over this. Please be safe wherever you are too.

    Pregnancy?

Im 10 months post op and 7 months pregnant. Besides the slow down of the weight loss process you can expect the pregnancy symptons which can be confused with the symptons of the surgery.
  25. FocusOnMeNow

What to expect two weeks post op?

I attended a friends wedding ceremony (not the reception although I was invited) about 10-12 days out from surgery AND it was honestly exhausting. I know that my family reunions usually require lots of driving and visiting for hours. Plan to attend if it is local and plan to make a short appearance for 30 minutes to one hour. Also plan to bring your own food and drink. I don't leave home without my vitamin water zero in a beer style coozie to keep it cool. That way my hands are full and I am not tempted to pick up something to eat or drink that I shouldn't. And besides you will be in sip sip sip mode. Please do NOT plan to drive a long distance, bring a dish to contribute or stay all day. You might not be physically up to any of it. Just pop your head in for the fellowship with your family. Make eye contact with your loved ones and really focus on them (i.e. Ignore the buffet). And you will enjoy yourself. There is a reason that we take time off after surgery and it is to recover not to socialize or do a lot of traveling. That being said you will NOT be an invalid either. Just not 100% up to the full activity that you were pre op. Also consider that as long as you are on the liquid and purée diet you Amy always feel a little bit weak until you get back on solid food. Good luck and just remember to TAKE IT EASY if this is a local must attend event.
