thats awsome ery happy for you congrats, i know what you mean about not opening up, i was so scared to tell people about the surgery when i first got it, including my bf, as we hadent been dating that long, and he was phisically fit, i was worried about how he would react. when i finnaly did tell him, it turns out i was right he was very negative and we broke up, since then i havent been in a relationship, almost 3 years too worried about how things will turn out. I notice changes as i work towards my goal weight, i just hope to gain the confidence and open up like you did Congrats again

Old Habits At 8.5 Months Out
Arlene G replied to Andrew0929's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You've done so well for so long. I don't know what your age, but you had the surgery for a reason. Keep remembering that reason. And please know that one of the reasons you had the surgery in the first place was for health reasons. It is difficult to not want to cheat. Cheating is not worth the weight regain or the effects it has on your health. Most of us who post here have made poor food choices and have turned to surgery to be more healthy. -
Wow, I so needed to read this today. I went n for my 3 mo appointment today(a few weeks late) and my doctor mentioned the same thing about sweets. Recently I have started allowing some sweets to my diet. A few cookies here a little too much fruit there, a bite of cake ect. I feel awful about it. I am so worried about gaining the 40 pounds I have lost but have started to see old patterns again. As I left my doctor visit today I thought about my initial motivation to get the surgery. I wanted to avoid getting diabetes like my mom but I also wanted something else... To be noticed . It sounds awful to say it but it's true. My family has congratulated me on my progress and cheer me on but not much else has changed. Now when I look in the mirror I'm just a less fat , fat person. Pity party for one your table is ready! Anyway , I just wanted to say that I understand your worry and frustration regarding old "bad habits".

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. Many good things coming your way. Expect 60% weight loss with the sleeve. Gerd does not happen to all of us. For many, diabetes is resolved. I'm five years and maintaining. I'm a well-controlled type 1 diabetic -
Hey all! I don't think I ever introduced myself when I first joined this, so I'll give a little info now. My names Amber, I'm 16 and I live in Kansas. I had lapband surgery December 18th 2006, and I did *really* well, but due to age and insurance, I never got my first fill til March 2007 (I've actually taken my case clear to the state governor, met with State Representatives, and several lobbyists all involved with my case) I'm now going for my second fill tomorrow *crosses fingers* but thats still up in the air because the doctor had called tonight saying my insurance wouldn't approve but, my mom plans on us going up there anyways since its mandatory that the insurance pays for whatever is needed or the state will pick up the rest of the costs. Anyways, on with a little history (sorry I tend to ramble on) I started out at 367.4, I went down to 323.6, and now I'm back around 350. I have tried multiple things to lose weight, and the actual reason I had the lapband was because I have primary lymphedema in both legs, and down 95% of my left side from shoulder down. We (my family, doctors, and I) decided to experiment and see if maybe they could trigger my lymphnodes into working correctly, if successful once I'm back on track, I should lose most of the Fluid weight, and then they plan to go in and do more tests to see what my problem is exactly. I do live life as a pretty "normal" teenager I'd like to think. I go to High School (online) because it was thought to be for my own good and to keep me up to date, Also to keep me on track to go on to college (I plan on getting a masters in business finance, and becoming an investment banker) Alrighty, I think thats a pretty good introduction for me.

Taking the Plunge: surgery on Monday
Trayjay33 replied to MarcK's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on your upcoming surgery, it's normal to have those questions. It depends on your surgeons restrictions. You may be restricted regarding lifting on the job and it may be affected by whether you have open bypass or laparoscopic. Regarding an active lifestyle it's the same thing, how long you will be on pain medication, how long you will be on blood thinners. All in all the time you spend recovering is important. Take it easy and heal so that you don't have any issues you could have avoided. You will be amazed at how active you will be when that weight starts coming off. -

@blizair09 - great answer!! hope below analogy is right. I am a controlled epileptic. Doc knew about pending VSG. i had a very bad seizure after loosing 75 lbs due to taking too high of med dosage PO for my new smaller frame. meds were continually lowered/adjusted til i lost additional 30 lbs.(final weight loss 105 lbs GOAL).) ps i don't blame dr. - as said earlier, your calories need to be adjusted while you are losing weight. good luck kathy -

So after recovering and getting into the swing of fat loss - what did you note "went" first. When I was younger and I'd diet the first thing to go was my boobs (unfortunately). I know it's individual for everyone. What was the first thing to lose weight the fastest on you?

WONDERFUL LIF CHANGE
Katcloudshepherd replied to sleevegreat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to the losers bench! I was a fat child and was teased all through school. Lost about 75 pounds to join the Army. Spent seven years and a few months in the Army and as soon as I got out and quit smoking--weight came back with a vengence. Just a tiny suggestion, please turn the Caps Lock off on your keyboard. Text that is all capitalized is the equivelant of shouting when you're posting. Like I said, just a tiny suggestion because I know you want to shout about your positive turn! Blessings, Kathleen -
What went first / the fastest?
pink dahlia replied to Lite'N'Sweet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My face was 1st, 2nd was my waistline. I carried alot of my weight around the middle, so as soon as id lose a few pounds, my pants were loose , again ! ( OH DARN !) As far as the chest area, the only good thing I can say about gaining weight was that I finally filled out in that area, and so far I have kept it all as I have lost weight. For the 1st time, in the history of never, I have a very nice figure ! Thank you lap band !!! -
My surgery was originally scheduled for March 17. I did the 2 week pre-op diet which was miserable. Like everyone, I had my doubts if I was doing the right thing. Then 2 days before I was positive for Covid and the surgery was postponed. Though I wanted to continue on a good path, I was not ablet to and before long I was eating like my old self. Every difficult thing I encountered due to my weight depressed me because I knew I should've been X weeks past the surgery by now. Most of the doubts I had disappeared. I realized how depressed I was it was postponed. Maybe it turned out to be for the best, because as the new date approached, I had almost no doubts. I was ready. The surgery was June 21, it went very well and I'm on the road to recovery. The postponement may have been a blessing in disguise. I don't know anyone that wasn't nervous, it's a part of the process.

Hello again all. I have been extremely frustrated with my weight loss. I had my surgery on Feb 5 2014 so I am a little over 2 months po. The first month from the time the Dr recorded my weight until he seen me 1 month po I dropped 34 lbs. I was ecstatic. When I went in for my 2 month check I only lost 7 lbs taking me down to 226. That was on April 7. Since then I have dropped 8 lbs in the last 2 weeks. I work out at least 5 days a week doing 45 mins on my elliptical and then lifting 10 lb weights on top of it to get my arms in shape hoping some of the skin will stretch back. I eat healthy getting 60 grams of protein daily and plenty of water though sometimes I may be a few grams short on my protein and a little short on fluids. Why am I not losing more weight then I am? It just doesn't make sense to me. My Dr was upset with my at my last visit for not dropping enough weight. I see so many people hitting the 100lb mark before a year and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I plan to start tomorrow walking 4 miles a day like I was before I got the elliptical a couple weeks ago on top of everything else I'm doing. Can someone please help me or guide me so I can increase my weight loss?

Sleeved on 2/18/2014, woke up in ICU
reany237 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 18th and I woke up in the ICU? I was allergic to the anaesethic( cant spell it). anyone else have this happen to them? I guess I was paralyzed and it took almost 6 hours for the sedative to wear off. I woke up with a breathing tube down my throat, boy, was I scared. So far, I have been doing okay, I get food cravings still, I know I have enough will power to say no to my cravings and I do but my brain is still saying to me, hey your bored...go find something to eat. what do you do then? ive been keeping myself busy by cleaning mostly. my incisions are looking really good, I just wonder how the inside is doing. Just wanted to drop a few lines, Im new to this forum and wanting to make some new weight loss friends.... -
Is being fat the worse thing a person could be?
Sleeve_Sistah85 replied to Sleeve_Sistah85's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I didn't mean to ignore the co-morbidities, it just seems that those of normal weight who judge harshly are not coming from that standpoint. Much like you Im 29, overweight and healthy. But I'm a healthcare worker and I realize that illness is inevitable if I don't lose weight. -
Alot of WLS patients have problems with gallbladders because of the rapid weight loss. It would happen after surgery, so you could have a perfectly normal GB on surgery day and develop a problem post op. Good luck. I get to keep mine for now.

Hi everyone. I had my surgery on jan 29th and have lost 30 pounds or maybe a bit more and I am really feeling a lot of pressure from myself and also from my mom to eat really low calorie foods and keep losing weight. I desperately want to lose a lot of weight but this pressure is getting to me. Is anyone else feeling this or has anyone had this experience? Thanks!

Do not be disappointed!!!!..looking at your post you have lost 44 lbs in 2 months....That is a lot of weight! Where can you do that any diet plan? There will be times that you weight loss will slow to give time for your body to catch up. My nut always said 1-3 pounds a week in the beginning was a good. You are doing AWESOME!

I had my lapband surgery on January 7. What is the average weight loss for the 1st week? I'm still feeling hungry. Is that normal?
-
Brad- Congrats! It will only get better and better. I have pretty much lost the same amount myself so far! Isn't it amazing? =) I am soo happy and love to exercise and move as much as I can. I totally agree with you on not weighing until you get to the docs...I do the same...your weight goes up and down like crazy..so its not accurate to be weighing every single day...maybe every week if you wanted to...but if you wait, then you are shocked by the time you see the doctor again...I had lost 22 pounds last month! They were shocked! LoL. Well good luck on the rest...keep on going! =)

I went in for my second post operation visit with my gastric surgeon and have no complications. I have kept a record that started 3 weeks before surgery, so for a total of 10 weeks I have lost 64 pounds.I started at 397 and have a goal weight of 200. I go in for an adjustment on July 18 th, my surgeon does his adjustments in the hospital and only in the office if a emergency. He says this is much more precise and my dietitian agrees totally. I have yet to try a lot of different foods, pasta rice, vegetables, fruits, so I'm looking forward to that. I was so happy with my weigh in because I didn't step foot on a scale since before the operation. I figured if I do as I'm told and stick to the amounts I'm supposed to eat I will lose. Also, since I have such an enormous amount to lose, at this point weighing all the time would be like an emotional roller coaster. Why put myself through that? I was so happy I cried in front of my surgeon, the relief of finally feeling like there is HOPE is so wonderful, I hope everyone can get that too! 133 pounds to go!
