Just so I am being completly understood. I do not think your daughter needs to have fill taken out, and i do not think her doc will. She needs to slow way down on her eating. small portions, plenty of time. We are all food addicts. Some of us will even admit it. Three things your daughter needs. 1 a support system- you love your daughter and want what is best for her.. that is very clear, but if you are not banded or struggle with food adiction, you may not be that support system. 2. make better food choices. At restaurants order sides only. It is embarassing for us if we get stuck in public. 3. Get motivated... walk walk walk and throw in some walking too. To be clear motivation is not thinkin about doing... it is doing, and SHE has to do it.

Two week liquids, two weeks mushies, two weeks semi solids, then time for a fill. After the fill, I think 3 days liquids, 3 days mushies, 3 days semi solids. Count your calories. Don't eat or drink any empty calories. Eat Low Sugar, Only Good Carbs, High Protein, Fruits and Vegies. Drink your Water. Exercise. All this will spell SUCCESS! -
Today I saw the psychiatrist and also had my final appointment with my doctor. Got all of the paperwork together and added the medical clearance letter. Afterwards, I dropped the paperwork off at the surgeon's office. Now all there is to do is wait. The surgeon's office will call me in a couple of days to schedule the consultation. I sure wish I could have made that appointment today. I am more than ready to do this! Hopefully, I will be able to get in for the consultation by next week. Crossing fingers (cuz I can't cross my darn legs)!

I had a dilation and believe me, you would know something was wrong! You sound like you need a tiny fill. Maybe they could give you 0.5cc's and see how it goes. By all means, get a fluroscope test if you really are anxious about it. My symptoms of dilation were: not keeping anything down, constant heartburn, coughing and chocking at night, and stomach pain. I needed to be re-operated and have a new band put in. Not fun. All from being too tight. When they took out 2.5 cc's they probably took out too much... Keep going back until you are losing 1-2 pounds a week. It's not fast, but if you are patient it stays off that way. Good luck on your journey!

Hi Sas Just to let you know, I had my appointment to see Mr Super come through for December - so I telephoned to see if there was any cancellations and got one for yesterday!! (27/10/08). They were absolutely great and explained everything fully - then went on to see the video and dietician. My husband was well impressed (I think he was secretly a bit worried). Anyway, I have the usual 2/3 month wait now, but I have told them I would be up for any cancellation that may occur, so they have made a note of that too!! My sister has lost 2 stone already, but the last two weeks nothing. She actually had an appointment at the clinic yesterday too (her first after the op) and they said that she has to eat a bit more bulk instead of the mushy now, but shes well pleased. I hope you are doing well Sas, please let me know, Im still not sure how to use this site?? but I hope this gets to you! Bye for now Juneyjoy

Hi everyone! Bear with me, I'm new... I'm Tracy, I'm 26. Just started looking into the process, then jumped right on-board. I've got three months of supervised diet as per my insurance company, and I'm looking at an early October surgery date... as long as I can lose the 5% my doctor requires! I'm really really struggling with finding some protein-rich foods, that are low on carbs, to get that weight off.... any suggestions?

Thanks!! Well I'm a 44 years old Hispanic female. Have three sons. Been married for 18 yrs. As a tradition Hispanic Puerto Rican we eat very unhealthy. I have done so many yo- yo diets as many of you with temporary success. It has been hard Keeping the weight down. My maternal family all have diabetes which many have died with diabetes complications. When I became diabetic it scared me to death. My doctor helped me in every thing she could with my weight loss. Many letters were sent to my insurance for approval. Finally this September it was approved. My big day was 2/1/12 its been almost 1 1/2 months. I was 226 and currently @ 206. My first fill will be 3/13. very new to the lap band. It will be nice to be able to speak to someone on a one on one for support. Thanks

Swimming...okay?!

I was given the green light to do a Water aerobics class after 4 weeks. Every doctor's orders are different, though, so I would just give your doc's office a call and get clarification. -
U.S Bariatric, St. Augustine, Flagler Hospital

Update for anyone interested in this practice. So far my experience with U.S Bariatrics has been great. They really help you with each stage. Jenn, the surgery scheduler has been wonderful in taking me through each step. The only thing that I just found out was that I have to have my surgery with Dr. Marema instead of Dr. Koppman. Not that that is bad but I did my consult with Koppman and have planned on him being the surgeon since the seminar. The problem: I am self pay and Dr. Koppman can not provide the 1 year complication insurance. So I have to go with Marema. I really wish they would have mentioned this sooner so I could have had my consult with Marema. I will still have my pre-op appoinment with him. I am so far into at this point there is no turning back. Good thing I know that Dr. Marema is a fine surgeon. PCP appointment next week and then all of the final stuff from bariatrics. WhoooHoo:thumbup: -
Hi Iam getting banded on the 26/06/09 and I am paying for it myself. I have been told to go on a low fat diet for 2 weeks which I have done successfully, but I am really worried about my liver. I am not an alcoholic or anything but I do like a glass of wine or two in the evening with my meal and have done this for many years. Now I am worrying if and when the Dr. opens me up and says my liver is too bad. Oh I am worrying about everything at the moment and my husband thinks I am overreacting cause Im so nervous but it is something I haven't thought about until now. Has anyone had any experience of this. Really appreciate any replies. Being banded in Belgium and havent had any blood tests yet as get them the day before the op owing to it being performed in another country. Jx:sad:

Yeah, that disappears around the two-week mark. My glass of wine is someone else's cookie, that's all!:smile2:

I'm only 3.5 weeks out. God before anything, Family before anyone, Home before anywhere. Priority..
-
Bexlygal- No you are not the only one! I experienced the same problem. I never had reflux prior to being banded and once I reached what I though to be my sweet-spot, which was 7.1cc's in a 10cc band, everything went haywire. Couldn't rest, hard to catch breath, sore throat, etc. At first I thought it was a sinus infection, got a slight unfill. Nothing. Went to PCP and he immediately said I should get an unfill, even though he recommended a complete unfill, my lapband doc suggested a partial to see how things worked. Took out another .25 and suggested I take Prilosec OTC every morning. That worked wonders, and two weeks later, I was able to get another small fill. Now I'm at 6.5 and have started losing again with increased exercise. My laband doc will only do my fills in increments of .10 or less at this point. Now I chew 1 pepcid complete in the morning and before bedtime and I'm doing fine. I have an appt. tomorrow and will ask for a teeny-weeny fill, because I think I'm finally at a good place. Hope you feel better soon, but if you have to get an unfill, don't stress over it because reflux can lead to so many more serious issues. I'd rather be a slow loser than one with an eroded esophagus or throat cancer!!! Take care.

Approved for April 10th!!
sbecker32 replied to tbryant1216's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm scheduled for next Wednesday, April 22nd. I'm really starting to get nervous though because I do my pre-op testing tomorrow and got paperwork in the mail today that said I should have been doing a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to the surgery. No one told me and my docs office staff sucks! I'm still excited though, especially from reading the success stories posted here. You are all an inspiration, from the pre-banders to the post-banders! -
That sounds like the same diet I had the first week post-op. My nutritionist specified that Water in the Protein mix counts against water, so maybe that helps. You could put a scoop (~25gm protein) in 16.9 oz bottle of water, that way just by getting your protein in you've also gotten in 40 - 45 oz of water. What makes it hard for you to get your water in? As for the hunger - water. It will satiate you for a while, even when you're hungry. I can't give you any better advice b/c we're having opposite reactions. I was banded March 1 and have yet to feel hungry. I'm maxing out around 3 oz food per day. Then again, I'm constantly sipping water, too.

I just had my first visit after surgery with my primary care doctor. He's thrilled about my weight loss so far (and I don't have to wait until the 6th to have an official weigh in). We adjusted my medications and feel at the goals I set for myself, my next visit to him should have me off of all but one medication (can't do much about the under active thyroid....it's one of those hereditary things). As March 6th gets closer, I'm getting more nervous about my first fill. Other than that, I'm feeling great. I'm even handling the stress of finals and final projects coming up in the next two weeks without wanting to binge eat.

Hi Sas How quick was that reply!! Fantastic !! I am 57 years old and weigh 16 stone. My weight started going on when both my daughters went off to University at the same time. My husband worked evening shifts, so I was on my own every evening feeling sorry for myself. I think I took comfort in food - the weight just piled on over the next few years. I then went through the menopause and at the same time found out I had an under active thyroid. My doctor had put me on anti depressants - so any prescribed diet tablets couldn`t work, as apparently they work against the anti depressant - I think they work on the same receptors in the brain? I would lose a stone at weight watchers - for the umpteeth time - but would put it back on again, the usual yo-yo dieting. I was also attending a Back Pain Clinic for an ongoing back problem - exercise was really painful - I even purchased a treadmill, but it was still painful. Finally my GP referred me to the Diabetic and Metabolism Clinic at the Worcester Royal Hospital as a referral for lapband surgery - I was first put forward for the lapband in 2005/6 and had been turned down four times before being accepted a couple of weeks ago - I have been on cloud nine ever since!! I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity to get my life back on track. :cool2: Juneyjoy

Well I had my first fill yesterday and it was SOOOO easy and quick I was surprised, I am excited to see what kind of restriction I have from it (just doing the liquids couple days after part at the moment so I will let you know as soon as I know). 9" down is fantastic! Whooo hooo. Way to go. Hope that your foot injury is healing up okay that's gotta get you down a bit. A 2lb per week loss would be fantastic, that's my goal too :tt2: 2lbs a week/10lbs a month would be great. Hope that your finals have gone well! I just had my first fill yesterday, prior to that I hadn't lost any weight since the end of the post-op diet phase, at least I didn't gain any back! Heh. I hope that your next fill is more sucessful!

Every doctor chooses the diet he or she thinks most appropriate for his patients, so you'll find several different diets here, everything from Clear liquids, to no diet, to a week of 3-4 Protein shakes a day plus a small sensible dinner (that is what mine looks like) to Protein Shakes only. They can run in length from nothing to a month or more. In every case I've seen, it's expected that you will drink lots of Water and/or SF non-carbonated beverages. Some doctors allow caffeine, others decaf, and some no coffee or tea at all. Most of the diets appear to be low carb or low carb-esque in nature, so I would be surprised if potatoes were on the diet. If he's saying 5 protein shakes a day, and didn't say anything else, then the likelihood is that is all you're supposed to have. The only one who can answer that, though, is your doctor. Please call him or her tomorrow and confirm. You'll feel better knowing what the intent is. Good luck!

I used to gulp ice Water. I worried about not being able to drink it during meals. At this point - 3 weeks in to this, I have to force myself to drink, just to get as much as I can in. I'm aware that it's best to drink 64 ounces a day, and I try - but I doubt I've actually hit it. Not drinking during meals to get the "I'm full" feeling? Wow! I still don't feel full. Ever. Hope I will after a fill.

PinkyLee You left out an important part in your first post. You haven't had a fill yet! No wonder you are hungry. You in Bandster Hell! That's the period after you have healed and before you start getting fills. You have no restriction. Neither do I. I was so proud of myself during the first month. I was losing weight. I wasn't hungry. I thought this isn't so bad. I'm special. I don't need no stinking fills! For the last 4 weeks I have been gaining and losing the same stupid one Lb. I'm getting my first fill on Friday, too. :nervous Not special after all.

My mom was against it at first too. She is accepting of it now and supportive of it now. But im some what ticked on how she came around. LOL . We see the same OB . I have seen her since i was 16 when i had my son , so my mom trusts her ALOT as do I . Of of my mom's first words when i told her about having surgery was " What does Dr B think about it ? I told her I dont know I havent told her yet. She told me " I would feel better if she oked it" I honestly think she thought she would be against it . WELL I Saw her last week , I told her I was going to have it and she stood up and clapped and said " GOOD FOR YOU GIRLY " LMAO I wasnt expecting THAT reaction but great. She said " I'm all for it I know how hard it is for some of my pts with PCOS to loose wt and i have lots who have done great with the band , I say go for it " . SO I tell my mom what she says , my mom says " OH OK I feel better about it now , So when are you having it done ? " She wouldnt say 2 words to me about it before. I understand wanting to get the " OK "from a doc but Does she think im an IDIOT and not going to make sure this is safe... ect ? PARENTS UGHH > Long story longer, ,,,, lol hang in there she might come around. Might not come around the way you hoped, or liked but she might come around ! Mindy
