You're a doll I'm almost out of the woods (two more weeks til they officially test and clear me to quit worrying about another surgery....all signs are very good so far). Initially on puree I was on 2 oz at a time, (1/4 cup) which seems like so little but was hard to get down LOL I'm in week four now, moving to week five and am having 1/2 a cup at a time, which is plenty for me. After I'm cleared I can go up to 3/4 but that's because I'm on a weird time skew (10 weeks from the initial surgery and five from the second...for some stuff they use the first date and some the second...for this they are using the first date). Personally I'm having a hard time getting in five 1/2 cup meals a day so going up does not seem reasonable to me, but I have been thinking of doing four or three meals a day instead which might be easier once my tummy will allow it. It's kind of funny what your tummy allows. Cottage cheese...I could eat more than i'm allowed now, but am totally satisfied with what I do eat. But denser stuff...refried Beans or meat...I have to keep those portions lower. Liquids (dense ones like cream Soup, chocolate milk, etc...stuff on your full liquid diet...yogurt...) I can have more of with no problem. Lamb did not want to be eaten for dinner tonight LOL So I had mashed potatoes with Protein powder and butter. (1/2 cup total) Some people have talked about different portion sizes...when I was in hospital after the second surgery I was on week one diet for their sleeve and they wanted me to have 4 oz of Soups or yogurt or custard (the stuff they have for their "full liquid" diet). Prior to discovering the leak they had me on purees for a day and that was a 2 oz serving. The guy in the room next to mine was on the same day and he was having half a cup, but he was 6'7" (we walked halls together) so his sleeve was longer...bigger...than mine. So your milage may vary Oh ya, and I was able to deal with liquids pretty well. Because I missed the initial healing phase where you only get tiny sips mostly. So when my second surgery was done I was able to drink as I do now...pretty much normal sized drinks but no chug a lug lug. I do often have 16 oz of milk (am right now) with oveltine to make up for any missed protein during a day. I have no issues with that.

How is your wls journey different than others?
TonyaNKy posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon used no stitches just skin glue. He didn't use a catheter and I had an onQ pain control device implanted under my skin. I had to take it off when I got home. They also sent me home with those inflatable boots to wear at night or whenever I'm going to be sitting longer than 30 minutes. I'm on a pill to keep from getting gallstones for the next 6 months. My pre-op diet was anything for 2 weeks before surgery unless it had carbs or sugar or high fructose corn syrup. So I ate a lot of bacon, steak, hamburger, chicken and fish. Post op diet is a week of clear liquids, then the next week cream soups, creamy peanut butter, bananas, low carb yogurt and the like. I take a ton of vitamins as well as 4 protein shakes or drinks a day. It's been one week since my surgery and so far I feel amazing! -
I don't wanna! lol. And physically can't because that shite hurrrtttsss like a mofo. Had issues even with yogurt this a.m. Just not gunna cry when the doc says I have another 7 weeks to go. All I'm saying is... if I knew all I had to do to lose weight was eat things I already love all the time, I would have tried this long before surgery. lol! Everyone complaining about the puree stage... what is wrong with shoveling refried beans and squishy cheese in your face? It's awesome! 😛

Post-Op Diet
ireallywannabthin replied to whitneytij's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First five days after surgery were clear liquids including water, crystal light, diet snapple, tea, sf ice pops, and low sodium broth. I took was utterly sick of those by day 3! The next two weeks consisted of 3 protein shakes a day and water, crystal light, diet snapple, or tea to hit 64 oz. the neat phase (which I'm currently on) is 2 protein shakes a day and 1 soft food meal a day including protein and veggies (3oz. Each) and if needed a light snack anywhere in the day (typically string cheese, cottage cheese, or Greek yogurt). My next phase will be solids and my dr recommends either 1 or 2 shakes a day and 1 solid meal for optimum weight loss. I may do 1 a day because I can't live forever on 2 shakes and a meal forever. -
Ugh! - dang weather
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to dltrautman1's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm guess you're in the early stages. A lot of gas stations have Protein drinks these days. Look for those. If you have to, get some soft cheese and chew the heck out of it. Maybe a yogurt too? Save traveling. -
I was allowed Greek yogurt right after surgery, along with sugar free jello, pudding or popsicles/fudgesicles. I had those on hand along with chicken broth (I don't like beef), Vitamin Water Zero, some Crystal Light to flavor water and my protein shakes.

I don't like yogurt milk or cheese so I can't protein from these foods.

For Those Who Got To Eat Soft Foods Soon Out
RickM replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My doc's plan has liquids, puree/mushies and soft proteins as tolerated from the hospital on out. I think I was served scrambled eggs and yogurt in the hospital and did yogurts, puddings, boiled eggs and tuna in addition to the typical protein shakes, soups and jellos those first couple of weeks (got tired of soups real fast!) The doc and his brother have been doing sleeves in their practice for around twenty years, so I figure that they know what it can handle. My wife was on the same program when she went through this several years ago though she progressed a little slower - just some of the variations between us all. -
Example of Food Quantities
bsellis replied to jennybean's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm newly banded and am still on full liquids. I had 1/3 cup of greek yogurt for breakfast yesterday and it kept me satisfied until lunch. I love yogurt but was told when I get on regular foods I don't need to eat it because it is a slider and won't keep me satisfied for long. -

lisacaron replied to jennybean's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yougurt is a slider food even though it's good for you it passes right through the band without much effort. There is nothing to chew. The best thing to do is add something to yogurt like fruit berries or some high protien Cereal. Like to add Kashi go lean crunch to it. This way your getting all the benefits of the yougurt and Protein and not letting it slide right through where you are hungry again too soon. Best of luck to you! -

Also, is greek yogurt like ice cream and considered a slider food? -
Long story short, I needed to lose 10 pounds in 10 days and ... I lost 12.5. My surgery date is set on January 16th. Thanks for all the emotional support and tips you guys shared. So-- for those nearing their weigh in appointment, I can share what I did, hopefully it would work out for you as well. 1. I bought a good old Rubbermaid pitcher with 64oz measurement on the side to force myself to drink it and used one packet crystal light for flavor. Drank this all say long at work (10 hours) . Drink Water to curb appetite! 2. I used Crystal light ENERGY ( with caffeine, coz I gave up my espresso, and can't deal with headaches) Got myself peach mango, grape, wild strawberry and citrus flavors to make it more appealing. 3. Breakfast :Greek yogurt small only 4. Lunch: Tofu mashed with 1 scrambled egg- looks like a pancake when cooked 5. Boiled egg for snack when I am hungry, upto 2 eggs/day. 6. dinner is I cup sautéed Brussels sprout. Or 1 bar zone double dark chocolate 7. I used costco premier Protein drink 30 grams protein) occasionally to substitute a meal. And when I am really really hungry around midnight. 8. Elliptical machine 30 mins & dancing wii (just dance) 30 mins everyday. I walk a lot at work and take stairs instead of elevator. Park far to force myself to work. Basically trying to burn calories if I can. 9. Dry sauna for 5 days before my appointment. 10. Looked at my calories, weighed everyday and logged what I ate at myfitnesspal app. Meeting the goal weight is too important for me to mess up on so I really forced myself to take it seriously. *So that's it! i just want to share -- take it or leave it Everyone's different so I wish us all good luck On our weight loss journey. Hope these tips will help you as well.

Day 3 Pre-Op and figured out how to manage the hunger
DanaKat posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pre-op diet consists of (2) Protein shakes a day as Meal Replacements and (1) 16 ounce of Soup (they said the chunkier the better but no cream base). Plus 2 Snacks which can be sugar free pudding or Jello, or 4 oz. low fat cottage cheese or yogurt. So the first few days sucked to be blunt. I was hungry I felt all day long. I drank lots if Water but that is not the same as actually eating food. So I am now having some decaf coffee in the morning plus water and delaying Breakfast until around 8:00 - 8:30 (I report to work at 7am and get up at 5am). I have a snack around 10:30 - 11:00 all the while still always having some water. I decided the best option for me was to divide my soup in half - 8 oz. for lunch and 8 oz. for dinner. This way I feel like I had something normal for lunch. I packed another shake for me to have between lunch and dinner. I try to have dinner before 7pm and no later. I found that I was satisfied longer and actually felt full after my dinner portion. Best part is that I am 6.4 lbs lighter too! For other pre-op peeps, it is a huge change but it's only temporary. -
Pre op liquid diet
ashley nichole replied to ashley nichole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a 2 week liquid diet, I have 10 days til surgery but yes I can have sugar free yogurt! -
I am considering VSG surgery, and I want to know if I will be able to continue to drink Green Smoothies (greens and fruit in blender); I drink one every day and don't know how to live without them! Also, I want to know why the surgeons say people lose 70 - 80% of their weight. I don't want to do something this drastic unless I have a chance to lose all my weight! (53 year old female, 150 lbs overweight). And do I have to do protein shakes? I hate them...but love greek yogurt. I am willing to do some things I don't like of course. I have tried everything and am tired of being obese.

Need to loose ten pounds
nervousnelly replied to rocknrollmama1980's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 20lbs ish three weeks prior I had three protein shakes and a very lean dinner. I had unlimited raw veggies and for snack a cup of Greek no fat yogurt. I also rode my stationary bike 30 mins. a day, minus Sundays. -
The antibiotics are enough to give you one. Eating yogurt will help. As well as plenty of OTC medicines. Even if you still have it when you go for surgery it won't stop it. Although I would try my hardest to get rid of it before surgery....would hate to deal with pain and itchiness down there too!

3 weeks on liquids. 2 protein shakes a day and 3rd meal of 1 cup of any non-cream based soup. I can have sf Popsicles and 1snack a day of either Greek yogurt or 1cup cottage cheese. Sf drinks, decaf coffee or tea and vegetable juice (no fruit juice). That's it.

Just got home from hospital
Fusilli66 replied to Fusilli66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all. I'm feeling a little better today. No pain, just the gas bubbles discomfort, and not as bad as yesterday. I was able to drink 1/2 of a Protein drink, a little bit or orange crystal lite and I ate a little bit of vanilla greek yogurt. Still not enough liquid in, but I'm working up to it. I will try another Protein Drink now. I haven't taken any pain meds (didn't even fill the prescription) because I generally don't like them. If I do feel pain I'll just take some tylenol but so far I'm ok. I'm up and mobile, walking around the house alot, in between resting and just watching tv. A good balance of rest and movement I think. Every time someone asks me how I feel, my answer is - better than yesterday, not as good as tomorrow! It keeps me realizing that every tomorrow will be better than today, especially all the tomorrow to come in the next few months when I start seeing the progress and it becomes worth it. -
Surgery day, Surgery was a breeze, I was out before I even knew I went into surgery. However, after I could'nt wake up from the anesthesia. I went to the bathroom asleep, did the barium swallow asleep and my dr. requires you to drink a bottle of water before leaving. I slept through that too. I would take a sip, fall asleep, then wake up, take a sip, fall asleep. I have no idea how long it took me to drink that water. Food on surgery day: 2 1/2 cups of creamy broccoli soup that I found in the organic section(this is the yummiest soup I have had in a long time) small sips of crystal light lemonade small sips of water all day Day 2, This was my most painful day so far The general anesthesia wore off and It was miserable all day. The pain wasn't unbearable, just miserable. I took more than the recommended dosage of the pain meds I think. I look 7 months pregnant. It's kind of cute because for medical reasons I can't have any more children. So I found it adorable that I looked 7 months pregnant for a day. My mom took me for my walk. I held my belly as if I was pregnant and got a few smiles from people. It hurt the most to get up and down from the chair and on and off the bed. I was really hungry all day today. I recognize my full feeling from reading this forum, however if I hadn't have known what to expect, I would have kept eating not realizing my limitations. I had a LOT of gas this day, but not in my shoulder like other people complained about. I would burp about once an hour and it would come from way down the bottom of my stomach and resonate all the way up. He He, by far the loudest and longest burps I have ever done. Food day 2: container of yogurt for breakfast, couldnt finish it all before I got full. no salt added butternut squash soup for lunch, found it in the organic section. (it was sooo yummy but not as good as the creamy broccoli, LOL) Dinner I had what was left of the creamy broccoli soup. It wasn't quite a full serving, so I had a feeling I would be hungry later. evening snack: I only had this because I felt excruciatingly hungry. I made a 3/4 of low sodium chicken broth. I put a bit of mrs. dash in it and heated it in a coffee cup. I sipped it like it was a warm cup of tea on a cold day. I wasnt able to finish it all before I felt full Day 3 I slept 18 hours straight. I haven't done that in a LONG time. I woke up this afternoon and a good bit of my sweeling has gone down. and the pain isn't nearly as bad as it was yesterday. I haven't even taken my pain meds yet and I seem fine so far. For Breakfast: I am having a yogurt cup that I put a half of scoop of unjury powder in and mixed. It does change the flavor, but I guess its ok for now. Dinner: homemade egg salad with 2 eggs, fat free mayo, dill relish and a dash of mustard. I ate about 2/3's of it. Dinner: 1/2 butternut squash soup, but could only eat 1/4 cup. Evening snack: low sodium V-8

Struggling with pre diet....surgery on Monday!!!
4sweeties replied to NewLifeRight's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Dec. 19. I had a 2 week pre op diet. I went off it once, 4 days before surgery. I was at a holiday party. Everything looked so delicious, especially after not eating for a week and a half. I took a small sized plate, took the healthiest food I could find at the party and ate. Oh man did it taste good. It wasn't much. 1 piece of chicken and a few bites of a side. As soon as I was done eating it I was back to my diet. I still lost 13 pounds on my pre op diet and my liver was healthy for surgery. Now I am on liquid only (plus yogurt, sf ice pops pudding) post op diet for 2 weeks. Last night the Christmas Eve dinner looked delicious, but I had no desire to join in. Today, I wanted a piece of shrimp but it was so easy not to cave. I know I went through a surgery to lose weight and I don't want to mess that up. I am also not very hungry lately, maybe its the swelling from surgery, maybe it's being used to the low calorie no chewing diet. But it is soooo much easier. I see foods I love but it is easy to pass them up. -
coming up with a after surgery menu
Traci J. replied to rmkwk1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't buy too much food; I bought all the soups, yogurts, popsicles ,etc...and hardly ate any of it. I wasn't hungry and was hard enough to get my protein and liquids in to really eat anything. And now that I can eat pretty much anything...all the stuff I bought for post-op is still sitting there because I don't want them anyway. Good luck and I hope you have a quick recovery. -
My surgery is Monday Feb 18. I am trying to plan ahead, planning what to eat (drink) starting from the day I get home from the hospital until I can add the cream soups and yogurt. Any suggestions on what to fix and when? How much of any one liquid item will I need to fix for one meal? I figure I will probably fix too much, considering what I am used to making for myself to eat, All suggestions will be appreciated.

So I started my antibiotics for the H-Pylori today and there's 3 different pills I have to take twice daily. The pharmacist said that I need to eat something the equivelant to 3 slices of bread with my pills or else they won't be absorbed and I will throw up. I ate a granola bar and some greek yogurt and still felt a little queasy. So I ate a peice of french bread. I was doing so well on my diet and losing weight before surgery and I feel like now I don't know what to do. Does anybody have any ideas or has anyone been through this? :/
