    Slow Going...

I have 15 weeks out and i have lost 32lbs.. that is just over a 2lb a week loss - do I wish it were quicker - yes lol I keep trudging along, going to the gym a good 5 days a week - also dealing with the possibility i have a leak in my band - I keep telling myself that 2lb a week is right on target with what they say is the healthy way to do this...

    August 10th! Anyone else?

@@retrieverguy You are getting there. I admit I called my insurance several times just "checking" to see if I had been approved yet. lol You have done great this far...you're almost there! When are you going on vacation? I'm going the end of July to the beginning of August. I'm taking a week to do my pre-op diet/cleans before surgery.

    Will it slip off?

I have thrown up a few times a week! Mine hasn't slipped that I know of. I still have restriction! But it is better to try to avoid it at all cost. I hate throwing up!
  5. .....when I wake up? I feel very nauseated/queasy and can't eat or drink until I have been up for a while. Tomorrow I will be 4 weeks post-op. Thanks!
  6. Hi, I had my monthly visit May 20 2012 and stopped on the 25th. Had my sleeve on the 31st now I am bleeding again. Is that normal? I am not due till 3 more weeks.

    Acid Reflux - golfball feeling

Another thought - you might try drinking warm or room temp. liquids like teas or broths. For the first few weeks after I was banded, I could not tolerate cold liquids at all! It felt like everything just closed up! Good luck and keep us posted.

    8 Weeks Post-Op Problems

The trick is to make small changes and keep those changes for 2 weeks minimum before adding more changes. Pick 1 thing that would be an easy change, just 1. And make and stuck to that change. Then in 2 weeks , that change is now habit. Change something else and keep doing this until you have all those habits adjusted.

    Dietician Messed Me Up

Yep! It is frustrating. I feel like I'm trying to make up for 3 months of weight loss in 2 weeks. I agree about eating light. All I've eaten today is a 1/2 of a pickle. 3 more hours until the moment of truth.
  10. OK, odd question! I got banded 8 weeks ago, all going well, and I've got back into kickboxing for exercise. But a good friend has just started a grappling class, and is raving about it. I'd love to take part, but I'm worried about the port - namely if there is 'grinding' contact, can that cause problems? There is a lot of force involved when I grapple with 'the big guys' and I worry about the port getting shifted about a bit So has anyone gone back to wrestling/judo/bjj post op?

    Frustrated ; waiting game

Yes my last weight in was last month and I have a tentative surgery date for July 15th and I'm on week two so hopefully I will hear something this weeks because I would have to start my pre op two week liquid diet next week
  12. I was cleared by my surgeon at 6 weeks. He said to just avoid stuff that put a big strain on the stomach for a few weeks after that, so I focused on legs and arms at first. Lynda

    Weight lifting questions

I think I waited until about 7-8 weeks but I'm not quite sure since it's been a while. I lift about once a week and lift heavy weights. I'm still sore from my Friday weight lifting session :/
  14. I figured you were smaller. I have friends that had the surgery and lost so much in the first week and month. I'm losing slower but my weight was less.
  15. I've been reading a lot of the posts about the fear of having to cope without food. I completely understand. I was sleeved on 4/27 and I am now experiencing what people told me about but was hard to grasp until you are there. I forgot to eat twice today. I had to go buy a little digital buzzer to buzz at 3 hours. Can you imagine? Even as my food world is opening back up, I forgot to eat. My one NUT told me that from my profile that was her concern for me and I said "oh no, I'd never forget to eat". Well, she was right. It's not a good or bad thing, just very surprising to me. So I have started using my little timer. I very much enjoy what I eat even tho it's tiny little bites and amounts and all is going down pretty well even tho I do still have nausea, it's not horrible, just something to work through. So I've been thinking about what I might be able to share to sooth those pre very normal worries and I'd like to offer two thing: Turn off the TV in those first 2 weeks. The food commercials are not your friends. That was the only thing that drove me crazy. From 3 to 7 at night it's one food commercial after the next. There were times I felt like Pavlo's dogs, almost salivating. If you can separate yourself from the food you love, try to do so. If you are a Mom, see if friends could take them for dinner a night or two. Or if your partner will manage the food work. Not having those triggers would make it so much easier. And second, you may feel hungry in the first week or two. I did. I think it's somewhat natural. Some suggest you need more anti-acids. I called my office and they said to not increase any med, to just ride it out for at least 1 month before going to meds. I did and at 2 weeks I suddenly realized the hunger had passed. I still experience some hunger at appropriate times. But it's not all the time to the degree of making me worry the surgery had not worked for me. I read others who posted the the Ghrelin needs time to leave your body and for me, I think that was the case. You might want to ask your surgeon ahead of time what they would want you to do. But I'd ask that you not fear any sort of failure. For some of us it's just a part of the process. And a merry sleeve to use all!!!!

    Band Removed at Nine Weeks

Eficka, I'm so sorry you are having problems. The band is a fickle thing. Seems to work beautifully for some, yet others have problems continuously. We need to lose the weight to maintain our health, but you know as well as me that living with pain, getting stuck, acid reflux, is not conducive to better health either. Even though I probably only had one "normal" week out of the nine weeks I had my band, even though I suffered terribly at the end, I was still sad to lose my band. I had such hopes and dreams that this would be the tool to enable me to finally lose the weight. However, by the last few days before surgery, I believe I would have reached down my throat and pulled it out, if I could have. Lemme tell ya, if you've already gained 50 of your 70 lb back, then the best thing you can do is get that thing out! How horrible to be having the terrible symptoms and GAINING weight. That's one of the problems with these surgeries, is that we'll do whatever we have to do in order to eat. Yet still have all the food limitations. It is true, the Hungry Monster does return. (I actually have been posting about this on my blog... take a look!) One thing that I have done is to consider my "condition" (the dysmotility) as "the enemy", or the reason that my dream surgery didn't work. I determined that I would not let the enemy have the final victory and rob me of the weight loss. I have found some really good blogs of people who are on the journey to better health. You can find them on the sidebar of my blog. When will you be having surgery? I'd like to hear from you. You can e-mail me at bencath@aol.com if you'd like. You can do this. You will be able to make better choices once the band is out and you can eat regular food again. Yeah, it's hard... or we wouldnt have needed surgery in the first place. You'll probably be like me, though... I've been through h3ll and back because of my weight, and I'm determined that I'm not going to let it be for nothing!! Good luck!!
  17. After 4 weeks of being the same...I lost 1.4 woohoo. I thought the scales would never move.
  18. I've been all over the map this week, as low as 217 and as high as 224, but as of today I'm 219, down 1 pound from last week.
  19. I gained weight on mushies and was starving as well. Then I started eating meat and getting fills and I started losing 2 pounds a week. Don't worry it will get better. And on a side note, I never raise my ticker. I consider any weight gain as "bounce" those pounds are so new they will be easy to get rid of its those really old pounds that are 20 years old that are hard!
  20. Hello I am 8 weeks post op tomorrow, and have been doing relatively well with the eating. I am a salad lover, and am so missing those foods. I am scared to start eating raw veggies and wonder how I should begin this process? I am also dying to have some oatmeal but am hesitant. Any suggestions are welcome.
  21. I have lost 19.5lbs since my liquid diet on the 11th and today I am up two lbs. I have not cheated, hit my water and protein goals everyday and get a small walk in as well. I'm hoping someone else has had a gain during PMS or their period? Just a bit bummed being one week out of surgery.
  22. Yea, how many calories? Exercise 4 hours a week? Meeting your protein goal?
  23. Hey everyone, I was banded on August 7. I had my last period about 2 weeks before surgery. I'm definitely late and I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing? I'm thinking its due to surgery?

    Sandy Related Trouble

Well, they sent me home with the incision sites bandaged with a plastic film over them. These are still intact. Am I supposed to leave them until whenever I get to see the doctor, which was supposed to be this week? The sites don't bother me. I had aoh blood blister on one bandage edge. I get a pain if I bend over, on my left side in between two incision sites. If I don't bend I am good, so I try not to bend. Overall, not too bad. Foodwise, I had to advance myself to applesauce and yogurts because that was what was readily available. I could buy a Greek yogurt in the morning and eat most of the day from it. Hope that didn't mess anything up. Thanks.
  25. regarding pain killers etc, i have been told to get chewable vitamins and mineral supplement, do i need to get chewable pain killers? also every one is talking about gas-x, does anyone know where to get this from in the UK? finally, saw someone had posted heat pads, would a hot water bottle do? so many questions, and what seems like such a short ammount of time, even though its still ust under 4 weeks away!
