  1. @@heart_RN I've had the same issues and my insurance just denied me for the revision to bypass today. I'm gonna to go back to Mexico to the original surgeon. I'm scheduled for March 31. I'm also nervous about the difference in this surgery from the sleeve. I'm especially worried about dumping syndrome but I'm ready to get it done.

    MARCH SLEEVERS?

Just got my date a few minutes ago. March 28th. Lab band to sleeve revision. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. "...So, I am a little worried about making the right choice the first time, as opposed to having to potentially gain weight back and have a revision surgery...." You know what they say, "Think twice, cut once." So it's good you're thinking. As for vits/minerals: I take 40+ each day. Most of us leave ADEK's behind after a year or so and supplement with individual pills/capsules. Many DSers never even start with them. It depends on your surgical and nutritional team. The DS is many more supplements, blood tests, Protein, etc., than GB. They're constantly tweaked/added/subtracted after your bloods are done. It's something you must commit to for life. BTW, start keeping your bloods and all other test results now. It's important to have the pre-op test results so you can compare them to your postop ones. Get a big binder.
  4. Following. I had the VSG in 2012. I initially lost 125 lbs. I have gained 25 back. I have terrible reflux. I had an EGD on Friday and the GI doc said he expects to recommend a revision to the full bypass. I have no idea what to expect as far as eating differences, recovery time, and if it is possible to lose additional weight. My surgeon said he usually only sees a 15-20 lb additional weight loss from a revision. Thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. I had an EGD last week and expect to revise a VSG to the bypass due to reflux issues. I am wondering what to expect. Differences in eating and is addition weight loss possible? I am very nervous about having another surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Amount of skin removed?

I had about 5# of skin removed from lower body lift and arm lift. I stayed about the same. Every once in a while, I read about someone who has a much bigger number - say 10-12# removed but they are people with a lot of skin. Dr Sauceda has some patients who need upper body lift etc., and not all of them are "normal weight" because when you used to weigh 400 (or whatever) 200 might be a great weight for you. Anyway, don't count on skin removal as a weight loss tool. i would also say that even though I had a lower body lift, i didn't do the vertical cut, and didn't do an upper body lift. I look great if i do say so myself but, i have excess skin on my torso still. This morning, I weigh 197 pounds LESS than my liftetime high so it frankly comes with the territory of losing that much weight. When I went down for my breast revision I talked to him about lipo around my torso and he told me that it wasn't fat. He could feel my muscle right under the skin, but it sometimes seems like it is a bit of fat that could be lipoed out but it really isn't. I guess a little off topic, but my point is that I love my results, I think I look great, I know I have a good body for my age (and frankly, not bad compared to many younger even) but it is far far from drumtight perfect. I had plastics 8 months after hitting goal I lost another 8# before i had plastics for a very specific reason. The rough guideline is your results are best if you stay within 10% of your "plastics day weight". So, I weighed 150 when I had plasctics which puts me in a range of 135 to 165 that I NEVER want to be out of. I find it to be a good motivation because the day I saw 165 on the scale last summer - I made big changes and now weigh 153! I need all the motivation I can get.

    2 day Liquid diet

Hello, everyone I'm a gastric sleeve patient that's had a few complications with the sleeve and I'm now scheduled for a revision to the bypass on March 16th due to those complication... Anyway I'm required to do a 2 liquid diet and I'm concerned about my blood sugar dropping to low because I'll be working up until the day before my surgery and my job requires a lot of moving and lifting and sweating continuously for the first four or five hours not to mention I usually workout an hour a day. Any suggestions that could possibly help with managing my blood sugar and avoiding dehydration prior to surgery Sent from my LG-D850 using the BariatricPal App

    Expected Weight Loss

I am losing slower than most. I am a band to sleeve revision. I was sleeved on 1/25 and in the day of sugery I was 216 lbs. Today I weigh in at 204 lbs. Not what I was hoping for, but I am happy to at least be going down.... I am going to kick up my workouts and hopefully that will get my weight going going gone!

does insurance pay for band removal ?

My insurance paid for band removal and revision to sleeve - I had two surgeries. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App
  10. I am 4 years post revision from band to sleeve. My starting BMI was 52, I weighed 308. This morning I weighed 153, I have been successful with the sleeve. First surgeon I went to pushed me (wouldn't even discuss sleeve) to bypass due to high BMI and history of failure with a restriction only surgery. I have been involved in WLS forums for 5 years and have formed some opinions based on my personal as well as experiences shared by others. Bypass and sleeve are both good, effective surgeries. There are some conditions that pushes you toward one or another (Gerd - go bypass for example ). I have seen people succeed and fail with either, especially over the long run. So much of long term success is that perseverance over the long haul. I am very pleased with my results and am so happy with my sleeve but I kinda think the higher the overweight the more a person should look into bypass or DS. I say that knowing there are sleevers who have lost and maintained hundreds of pounds - I just think have an open mind, do your research and make a rational choice for your circumstances. They are both effective but have different risks and positives. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App

Any post-op sleevers revising to the bypass

Nice to meet someone that's going through this process I only lost 50lbs with the sleeve then my sleeve became non functioning I have a hustle hernia in my sleeve and an extreme case of GERDS that has caused me to have an erosive esophagus... Because I'm in such bad shape it only took my insurance 5 days to approve me I'll be revised on March 16th...I'm excited but terrified at the same time

Any post-op sleevers revising to the bypass

Hi there. I am in the process of revising from sleeve to bypass. I had lost 100lbs in the first year of the sleeve which was great but then immediately gained it all back. I'm now, right back where I started. Due to my insurance I have to do 6mo physician supervised weight loss attempt. 4mos left to go. I'm hoping I'll be able to revise in July.

To tell or not to tell?

Some of the people I work with are nosey know it alls. I know I will be judged and hear (most will probably be behind my back tho I'm sure) their uneducated comments and unsolicited advise. I am just finishing up month 2 of my 6 month pre op wait game to get my band out and get a sleeve revision. I originally thought that I was going to say to hell with them, and tell everyone. But the more I think about it, I think I'm going to keep my mouth shut. I only told a couple people about my original band surgery, but am pretty sure it got out there to those I didn't want to know. I was not successful with the band, all the more reason why I want to keep this one quiet. My only issue is how am I going to account for being off work for approximately a month. I know I don't have to tell them anything, but I know the "general conversation" questions will be there and I'd like to have another excuse to use. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
  14. I have had my band since 2012. 236 to 199. Band messed up 10 months ago now 219. Planning revision but so frustrating to have to do diet trial, did u? Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Pre-op, BPD/Duodenal Switch vs Gastric Sleeve

DS is much more invasive and you have more malabsorption issues compared to the sleeve. Essentially it's like combining the sleeve with the bypass. I revised with a bmi of 45, lost 130 with the sleeve and regained 60 before choosing to go to the DS
  17. Hello All! So I am currently in the pre-op stage and I have completed most of the testing. I had originally thought I would choose the GS, but have started looking into the DS. They seem to be fairly similar, but with the DS adding restriction, thus increasing Vitamin maintenance. I meet with the surgeon in 10 days and have been reading very helpful posts here, as well as reviewing the surgeon's manuals for each surgery. I have considerable weight to lose (BMI 45). I once was down to 185 lbs by counting calories and maintaining a log, but slowly gained it all back plus extra. So, I am a little worried about making the right choice the first time, as opposed to having to potentially gain weight back and have a revision surgery. This is what led me to the DS, which is the highest "rung" on the surgery ladder per the surgeon. The vitamin regiments seem fairly similar between the two, with the DS adding ADEK (fat soluble vitamins). I don't think I would have an issue with the vitamin routine. Has anyone been caught between these two surgeries, and if so, which way did you go and why? Any and all comments are welcome! Thanks in advance!

    Starting number

Thanks everyone! I've decided to use the highest weight I've had since I started the revision approval process. Which was when I started the pre-op diet I'd December for a surgery that was cancelled the day before surgery. HW - 249 SW - 240 CW - 231 Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Caution

I am having revision from band to sleeve on Friday. My surgeon never mentioned anything about higher risks for a leak because of the band. According to their stats out of hundreds of revision procedures he's had one leak, which was small and healed on it's own. It's a major surgery, you never know what will happen I suppose. I also have to have my gallbladder out. So it's band removal, gallbladder removal, and sleeve. Unless he decides that needs to wait for a few months - which he said was also a possibility.

    lap band revision

I'm about to. On Friday. banded in 2009, modest success (lost about 40ish pounds), 2015 gave me lots of band issues and I'm making the move to sleeve. I've seen many people post about being very successful with this revision, and some have not. I'm hoping I'll do better with the sleeve and not have to worry about being stuck or the band being too tight, etc.

Removed LapBand and had Gastric Sleeve

The "facts" are that you are very much in control of your own success. You didn't mention your BMI or how close to goal you are, but starting out smaller is one of many reasons revisionistas tend to "lose slow". I lost 150# post revision and have been maintaining quite awhile. I don't even remember how much weight I had lost 2 months post op.... follow the rules, don't stress over the small things and you will find success. I strongly recommend measuring and tracking intake though because my sensors were all messed up and I had to relearn to eat healthy and appropriately for weight management.
  22. I had VSG on Feb 1st. No words of wisdom, but I sympathize with you on the revision. Here is my theory. I was a revision as well. Only I was banded in 2008, stomach prolapsed above the band, how long it was prolapsed is anyone's guess. I was working between the 3 jewelry stores we owned and never had time off. I had it removed in 2011 before my wedding. Yes, odd. During the recent VSG we discovered I had a lot of scarring from the band that had built up, my surgeon removed the scarring from the band placement site as well as where the port was inserted. ANYWAY. I think the shock of going from very low carb, to creamy (starchy) Soups & puddings, shocks the body. I think once people get back to strict low carb, and more experienced people than myself will know, that people will lose at a better pace. I'm not even going to worry about this yet, I'm just going to follow the instructions. I refuse to jump on my scale until my next visit. =)

You can find us on YouTube under Loulou and sonys jouRNY Ok here goes.... My sister and I are sharing our weight loss journey. We will be going to Mexico next week for gastric bypass. (Mine is a revision from sleeve to bypass) our first video..... A little cheesy but that's just how we are!
  24. JenPen, I am being revised on Tuesday March 1st! I have had my band for almost 10 years! My original surgeon who has been doing bariatric surgery since the early 2000's does them in one. I went and consulted a doctor for insurance reasons and he does them in two steps and you have to do his entire program(see only his nut and shrink), he told me that a revision in two step is the GOLD-STANDARD! I walked out of the office because of an incompetent Insurance coordinator. That's another story. So I AM A NURSE for 27 years and when somebody start talking to you about GOLD STANDARD, I was like what???? So I called 10 top BARIATRIC teaching hospitals. I am in Oregon I started w/OHSU - (actually sent them the records the chair looked at my case and said he would revise me in 1 step), Then I called 9 other hospitals, OHSU, Stanford, Brigham's, Cleveland, Mayo, Duke, Enloe, etc. So 8 of the 10 revise them in one step. It really has to do with how your doctor was trained. It was interesting because I spoke to an another Nurse coordinator and she told me she had been to the International Bariatric Conference and one step sleeves were more of the norm across the board. Even though her docs do them in a 2 step process with 8 months in between! She also, said her docs are having such success with sleeves that they are not even performing RNY! So everyone has an opinion about which is the best one or two steps. But as you can see I went to the EXPERTS and asked. But when you see the doctor he will explain why he does it one way or the other. Because of insurance issues I am having to travel 5.5 hours away. So I really am hoping to be able to be done in one step! So I had my band done in 2006. No issues until April of last years(except my port broke in 2013) But I have lost 132 pounds with my band. So stay tuned and I will try to update it here.
