  1. I'd have lost my mind on liquids that long. I ate yogurt, cream of wheat, oatmeal and soup...on day 7. Day 14 ushered in an era of mashed potatoes, cottage cheese and other delights. I am so grateful my group follows the new protocol. I could not have survived the old one.

    Probiotics...

I had been taking them before surgery and will continue again once I heal and can swallow a capsule. I never had that problem before surgery though. I took a heavy pro-biotic supplement with minimum 10 strains. Maybe go back to the miralax and eat yogurt for a while and see what happens. That sounds more like allergies or not enough Fluid intake, maybe?

pre-op diet so far 4 days

Hey Carmen, Start getting all of your supplies. I purchased all NO SUGAR ADDED foods per my doctor, or fat free. They make no sugar added yogurt (different flavors), fudgesicles -no sugar added, Protein shakes, I drink EAS( semi frozen) and Breakfast essentials. Stock up on crystal lite and reduced sodium Soups. Its is different, and challenging because I'm addicted to carbs. So good luck, on your pre ops fast. Guess what I am big boned too.,,150lbs is my goal approved 223 lbs pre-ops fast 211 (5days out) surgery - 5 days left STAY TUNE FOR MY UPDATE AFTER SURGERY Sheri
  4. I start my pre op diet tomorrow. I have to work and I am kind of nervous that I am going to be starving. My diet is liquids only for the first 5 days then 2 days of clear liquids. I was not told I can only have a certain amount, so I plan to have a shake for breakfast, a mid morning snack of one of those chobani yogurts, which I actually don't really like (I am going to try to add a little splenda to it), a shake for lunch, and see if I can then hold out 'til dinner when I will have another shake, but I may bring another drink with me just in case. I work 10 hour shifts so I am there a while. I bought some suger free jello, because I am allowed that, but I have never been to fond of jello, but I have not had it in a long time, so I may try again
  5. Hi all, I am one month post op from bypass and all of a sudden I don't even care about eating anymore. I am to the point where I am making myself take tuna or yogurt for lunch, and between 2 protein drinks and lunch, if I am eating the right thing, I am getting 90 grams of protein. Do I have to eat food? I will definitely be bringing this up at my one month checkup Tuesday. Also I still feel as fat as I was before surgery, I feel like my face is bigger and I am always afraid of putting weight back on. Any suggestions? Is this normal? I mean of course I am still big; even though I have lost 30 pounds, I am still 239, which is big! Anyone else experience similar?
  6. RNY does not guarantee dumping syndrome. My cousin had RNY the same day I had my sleeve done and she hasn't dumped on anything yet. And she has not really followed her diet very well. (She started soft foods much much sooner then our surgeon said to start.) She hasn't eaten a candy bar or anything but she's been fine with regular yogurts and coffee creamers. I'm not sure if there is enough sugar in those things to cause dumping but we sort of thought it was a sure thing so soon after our surgeries (12/5/11)
  7. What's your plan? How's it going? Got any tips? For me, its Day #1. I've been instructed to eat every 4 hours, 3 meals with 4-6 ounces lean protein and vegetables (or protein shake), one snack with nuts, and 3 fruits and/or yogurts. I'm going to make some chicken broth later today. 952 kcal, 76g carbs, 118g protein today.

    Very Bad Day Today :-(

Wellll, if you want the truth......you shouldn't be eating chips or bread AT ALL right now. Those should be at the top of your "do not" list!! You need tp focus on getting in your Protein. If you're eating protein you won't have as much room for "sliders", which is what that stiff is.....it slides right down & the scale stops sliding down. So, what an average day might look like: Egg w/cheese Greek yogurt Protein shake salad w/ chicken, cheese & nutrient rich greens like spinach. Eat your protein first then nibble on a little lettuce. Babybell cheese w/ melba toast Moist fish like talapia w/ a little bit of veg, like green Beans Sf pudding or sf popcicle, yogurt, etc. Or a Protein Bar. Granted, I don't eat this way everyday, but try to nip bad habits NOW while it's easier to stay on track....Didnt your NUT give you a list of things you should eat?

    Hunger?

If I go too long without eating I get hungry and stay that way for the rest of the day, the only thing that fixes it is to go to sleep at night and then it resets the next morning. To keep this from happening I eat something every couple of hours, even if its just a yogurt, Protein bar, or shake. I think it has something to do with my blood sugar but that is just my personal opinion. So to keep my calories in line I eat 3 meals at 250 calories each and 2 Snacks at 150 calories or less each.
  11. I am two weeks post op. I started the puree diet phase today. My surgeon did not have me on pure liquids for the last couple of weeks though- I could eat jello, pudding, apple sauce, thin soups w/out chunks, yogurt, instant mashed potatoes, etc.... I have been putting my food in a 4 oz paper cup- usually about half full, sometimes a bit more. Never to the top. So about 2-3 ounces every time I eat. I usually eat 3-4 times per day. As I introduce new foods, I am concerned about how I feel while/after eating. I am not sure if what I am feeling is normal for this point, if I am overeating, or if the food is not agreeing with me. I have never thrown up and only once felt like I was going to. I don't experience pain, but discomfort sometimes. Like an acid reflux feeling or I feel like I need to burp. It feels like the food just sits there for a bit. The feeling typically does not last long- a couple of minutes. Never more than 10-15. Since I am not in pain or vomiting, I just kind of assumed this is just something I have to deal with for a while. But since I can now add more foods to my diet, I thought maybe I should ask. I don't go to the doctor for another week. I can tolerate the feeling, but just am more nervous about doing damage of some kind.
  12. Today I started my "VERY STRICT" 2 week pre-op liquid Diet. All I can say is Thank Goodness I am off for the next days so I can get the routine!! My diet SPECIFICALLY tell you what to have at every meal. AM: Protein Drink Supplement 1 cup skim milk or light yogurt MID MORNING: Fiber Supplement (5 gr fiber in Water NOON: Protein Drink/Supplement Fiber Supplement 1 cup skim milk or light yogurt AFTERNOON: 1 cup raw veggies w/ ff vinaigrette dressing DINNER: Protein Drink Fiber Supplement EVENING: Protein Drink 1 cup skim milk or light yogurt Total of 100 oz(minimum) liquid (including all liquids above). Plus u can have UNLIMITED broth, sf Jello, decaf coffee/tea, crystal light, sf popsicles. And this is the menu for 14 days...... Pray for me. I mean I am all for structure but hmph. So far I have not detoured (and I dont plan on IT!!) but I am 8 hours into the day and i can honestly say I am NOT hungry. Only time I felt a tummy rumble was this morning and I just drank some water. It seems simple but I am constantly looking at this paper trying to make sure I haven't missed anything! Or planning my next drink! LOL Wish me Luck!!
  13. Good luck! My surgery date is the 23rd so we will start our journey together. I hope you aren't as nervous as I am. This forum is an amazing source of information but also scaring me a bit! I have tried a bunch of protein powders and most are kinda lousy. I did like the Biggest loser vanilla and chocolate though. Put it in the blender with water, milk or even greek yogurt with some artificial sweetener and some ice and it's pretty good.
  14. Thanks k8! It's an old nickname from college and yes...my eyes are blue. I started my pre-op diet last wednesday (2 weeks prior). It's about the same: 3 protien shakes, 1/2 oatmeal, 1 sugar-free Jello and 1 pudding,1 fat free yogurt, and 1 unsweetened applesauce. No caffeine and no soda. As for the chart, it's pretty simple to put in the tracker. Just go to TickerFactory.com to customize your weight loss tracker. It will give you the code to use for web forums and blogs. Copy this information and then go to Profile>Change Signature and add the code in the Edit Signature block. Let me know how it goes. Keep in touch. It would be great to have someone to talk to as we go through day by day.
  15. Tomorrow marks 2 weeks since my surgery. On Tuesday I get to start soft foods (after 2 weeks liquids). My doctor recommends cottage cheese, yogurt, flaky fish, etc. for this phase. For those of you who have hit this milestone, was was your first soft food? Thanks!
  16. Cottage cheese. Sugar free jello. Broth light yogurt. Tomatoe or v8 juice not v8 fruit juice tho. Sugar free pop cycles.
  17. You can have Protein with just about everything you eat right now, Nofat greek strained yogurt has 23G per 6oz. if you blend this with whey protein isolite which is another 25-30G per serving, you can get all the protein you need in just a couple of your many meals each day. I would also suggest not knowing all your particulars that 60-70G is very light, especially if you are working out with weights at all. I would encourage you to maybe double that, But check with your nutritionist first. Keep up the good fight.
  18. You are less than a week out from surgery. At this point just do your best. You are still healing and depending on how tight you feel, you may not hit your goal everyday. For my mushy foods I was only allowed soft Proteins which included yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, tuna, sliced lunch meat, other cheeses. So the Protein was not too hard to get in. Enjoy!

  21. Don't think I've lost a ton in my 3 month supervised diet but I have been saying goodbye to my "friends" pizza, pastas, corndogs, fries, soda etc I wish I could say I've followed a strict diet but I know I'm going to do great after surgery... It's nice to "part" with these foods and go on with my life! I have to say I have fallen in love with Greek yogurt especially Fage and will eat that for dessert any day! Yum! I love watermelon and my Nut says its fine since its not junk and a great source of Water so I eat that for Snacks. I love tacos and have omitted the shell and just crumbled three tortilla chips on for crunch...I had jaw surgery last year and was on soft foods for over 6 months...I have to have crunch up until this surgery lol

    Surgery tomorrow!

I personally haven't been very hungry. Today is the first day I've noticed it. 4 days post-op and I've been having the low carb Slim Fast shakes (dr approved); each one has 20g of protein. Also Greek yogurt and sugar free pudding with protein mixed in. I think it will get harder but I have to use mind over matter. In about a week I can start adding soft foods so I just have to focus on that!
  23. I followed a pretty basic diet of approximately 1200 calories per day pre-op. I was on the diet for about 4 months. Here's the gist of it: Breakfast: 2 Proteins (1 oz. lowfat meat, 1 egg, or 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese is one protein), 1 dairy (1 cup fat free milk or yogurt), 1 fat (1 tsp oil or butter or 1 tbs. lowfat mayo) 1 fruit, and optionally 1starch (slice of bread, cup of sugar free low calorie Cereal, 1/2 cup rice or 1 serving oatmeal) Lunch: 2-3 proteins, 2 vegetables (1 cup raw veggies or 1/2 cup cooked is one veg), 1 fruit, 1 starch, 1 fat Dinner: 3 proteins, 2 vegetables, 1 starch, 1 fat, and 1 dairy

    Protein shakes

Are you doing preop diet? I added Greek yogurt. Go for Fage or chobani because they have a lot of Protein in it and that will keep you fuller longer.
