  1. I'm doing 3 protein shakes a day and a choice of 4 of the following Triple zero oikos yogurt, low sodium broth, sugar free jello, sugar free ice pops. There's some other things liek cream of wheat and 1% milk. I'm starving. Im lucky I only have to do 1 week. Some people have to do 2 to 3 weeks. I guess this is there version of low carb.

    Food Cravings!

I haven't had surgery yet, but just from past diets, when I have cravings I just try to make a healthy version of that food. A few examples Tater Tots- Baked Cauliflower Tots (A lot of the recipes have bread crumbs and cheese- I just use egg whites to bind and and garlic and herbs to season) Cheesecake- Greek Yogurt cheese Cake with an Almond or Hazelnut Crust - Basic quantity for a simple greek yogurt cheesecake is 1 cup greek yogurt to 1 egg- I usually split this in half or fourths. Bake for 40 min @ 350. For the crust just blend up some nuts and or rolled oats in a food processor. Cheeseburger - use lean meat- mushroom for bun For ice cream- use almond milk and make a "frosty" Things like that!

    Best swallowable vitamins?

I use CELEBRATE Capsule Vitamins. I have used them since after my Chewables. I didn't like my CENTRIUM chewables they were way to sweet. You can buy them on-line. I buy them on AMAZON. I haven't had any bllodwork come back bad. I was told by my Dr that if they were to large to swollow that could open them up and eat them with applesauce or yogurt.

    Food Intolerance

Tonight was my first night off post op liquid. I tried refried beans and a little salsa, within 10 mins I was regretting my choice. Tight chested and belching feeling upward pressure for the next 60 minutes. I thought I was going to throw it up, but managed to keep it down. I learned a couple of things, I eat to fast and I need to reduce the portion size a little more to get started. I have been having no issues at all the last 2 weeks with water, protein shakes and plain yogurt.

    Surgery was yesterday!

Thank you for the kind words, Kat. I was able to return to work on the 8th day because my wife was willing to drive me the 45 miles to and from work. We just made the same trip again today (9/30) for my first post-op doctor's appointment. All is progressing fantastically at this point. Pain free. Lost 9.2 lbs. since I checked in for surgery on the 19th. Cleared to move to phase 2 of the post-op diet and drive today. Now comes the fun of trying to determine when to drink the liquids around the "meals" (30 min buffers on both sides). Still wrestling with determining if a Premier Protein is a meal or a liquid. LOL. Cleared for Elli Quark and Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt (both of which provide added protein - 80 cal and 14 gr protein for Quark or 120 cal and 15 gr protein for Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt). Also received some Bariatric Pal creamed soups and hot chocolate to try (each has 15 gr of added protein). Wishing you every continued success, Kat, and I'm here to support you along the way.

    "You will fail"....question

Even though the pre-op liver shrinking included sweet shakes and bars, I am 6 weeks post-op and only occasionally feel a little pull towards cake, chocolate, pie, dessert. Mostly I can walk right past shop displays and can even watch those close-up food-porn shots on TV cooking shows without wanting to join in. A couple of spoonfuls of slightly sweet yogurt or maybe a couple of dried apple chips fix any desire for sweet food after dinner. For snacking, lite milk is sweet enough and has the Protein to get rid of hunger pangs. Four weeks post-op I was feeling over-confident because everything had gone smoothly, so I resumed my weekly trip to the farmers market and while I was there I bought a slice of quiche and ate half the filling. I thought it was only egg and milk or cream, and wouldn't be a problem. But I had eaten lunch only half an hour before. Whoa! The reaction was so extreme and awful - sweating, dizziness, needing to vomit, couldn't sit down, couldn't stand up, had difficulty catching my breath - for about 15 minutes that it put me right back on track. If that was dumping I never want to go there again!
  10. I’m 4 weeks post surgery and I’m still not up to 2 oz per meal. If I eat over 1 oz (of solid food) it hurts. I feel like I have to throw up and my mid section hurts. Sitting, standing it’s just uncomfortable. Eating yogurt and other super soft foods is ok but if I attempt anything remotely solid it feels like it gets stuck. I have a doc appointment in two weeks but didn’t know if I should get in sooner? Anyone else experience this?

Sleeve is on Wednesday the 28th

Hello. I am strictly drinking premier, and only drinking propel water. The shakes I've had that I like are vanilla, strawberry, banana and chocolate. I won't try the carmel. And I don't like coffee anything. So I will be really happy to have yogurt too.
  12. I was sleeved 6/14 and I am able to eat meats. I don't eat much beef though...whenever I do it feels hard to swallow even if I chew chew chew .. im mostly eating fish and chicken with my veggies...I don't know how much calories I eat in a day im guessing between 500-800. I also drink premier Protein and I think im lactose intolerant whenever I drink the shake or have yogurt or Cereal with milk I get cramps. it doesn't stop me from drinking the shakes tho... just trying to get a much protein as possible.. I hope your able to eat meats again.. I know your tastes change after the surgery because mine have good luck to you!!
  13. Did you use a food processor or blender? I found that meats were much easier when ground. I had a week of serious food aversions after surgery (July 12) but made myself eat and got over it. What about Beans, yogurt, etc? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. H, Jen, just wanted to say that I feel the same way about breads, which is probably why I am the way I am! I am not going to worry about buying anything until I need it. Don't want to buy stuff now, and then not need it/like it. I figure later on I should be ok at work with Protein drinks, egg whites and yogurts and the like. We'll see. Also, which hospital are you having surgery at? Valley? I am also in NJ, and my group is also out of Valley.
  15. Ricotta and cottage cheese topped with smooth spaghetti sauce heated in the microwave. Like heaven after liquids!!!!! Greek yogurt blended to get rid of fruit chunks, splendor a to taste. Canned chicken mixed with low fat laughing cow also microwaved.

I started mushies on Friday and this weekend I ate canned venison, pizza, broiled cod, cheese and venison sausage. I don't think of these as mushies. Had no problems eating them though. I drank 5 glasses of wine on Saturday night at party with past co-workers. I know that wasn't smart. Also cals are way up to about 1400 day. Is this acceptable? What are mushies? Could I have damaged anything? I don't think so, and feel good. What should one be consuming 2 weeks after surgery? As far as streghting my pouch shouldn't I have thrown up because of over stuffing? Did I over stuff? Any advice please Bearbelly

    5 days post surgery

I was banded 8 days ago, i have no fluid in my band as of now, i go for my first fill in 2 weeks. I am eating greek yogurt with a bit of honey and its very satisfying and full of protein! My surgeon recommended it so try that instead of protein drink.

    preop dieting

I am on Day 8 and I got dizzy today and yesterday. Immediately drank protein shake slim fast and ate applesauce and yogurt.
  19. is that normal? i went into the hospital at 348lbs. after surgery, and the IV's, i was up to 353. this morning i weighed in at 328. I know that at least 5lbs of that is Water weight from the IV's...but is that normal? i don't feel run down. i've been pretty good with my Protein drinks (at least 1 a day - i hate the things). other than that - days 2-5 were broth, water, Jello and protein. days 6 and 7 i introduced cottage cheese and yogurt and iced tea. i have my post opp meeting in two days, i'll ask them then. just kinda concerned that my body is eating muscle as well as fat. any thoughts?

    Diet phases

I ate yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta bake and chicken salad... not much else sounded good.
  21. I am about 3 weeks post op and on the purée phase for the next three weeks. I am at a loss as to what to eat, as everything I have tried tastes horrible except for yogurt and broth. It also doesn’t help that I cannot keep down my chewable vitamins and the protein shakes are making me feel nauseous all the time. Any ideas of other things to eat?

    Thanksgiving Dinner

I wouldn't give you flack for that. It's one of those things we've all experienced. I know that I am a month out, but still play the head game with myself about wanting to eat more because I want to but not actually being hungry. My smarter side usually wins, but there have been a couple times where I feel as if I just had Thanksgiving dinner too... As for the diet, I was allowed full liquids for two weeks post-op, then to purees for one week, mushies for one week, and then soft foods with slow reintroduction of normal foods for last two weeks. On my one month post-op meeting, I was cleared to eat all foods. Full liquids for me included yogurt with no seeds/chunks, soups with no lumps/chunks, Protein shakes, SF puddings and Jello. Sounds like you are doing good so far! Keep your head up and start working on the emotional connection with food. That has really been the hardest for me so far.

    Sudden tightness

:)Sometimes it can take a while for the band to tighten-that's normal. Be careful eating too many mushy type foods. I can eat ice cream and it feels good, but it's not good for me (they call this eating around the band). I went on a cruise and couldn't eat mostthing, but thos umbrella drinks sure went down without a problem. The key is to plan your meals ahead on time. Mornings are usually tough for bandsters so enjoy a nice cup or tea to help smooth the band. Have oatmeal, yogurt or really moist foods. At lunch maybe a cup of soup and you can add some meat (chicken) or make a tuna salad on crackers. Get a protein shake in if you aren't getting the right amount of protein in. Take your vitamins at this stage too. For dinner try not to reheat food as it tends to be dry-stay away from pasta and carbs. Fish works well for me or seafood items. The trick is to eat very small amounts and tune into what works for you. Try to get your sleep in-it's really important to your overall heath. Best wishes!
  24. I am finally scheduled to be banded on 11/21/07. My insurance required 6 months of nutrition counseling, from which I am proud to say I lost 50 pounds. Now I am going through 20 gruelling days of liquid diet to shrink the liver...yuck!! Today completes day 5 of 20 and I have been 100% compliant. But I am very sick of Atkins shakes, non fat yogurt and sugar free jello....(why dont they make this stuff in bacon or terryaki sirloin flavor?). Anyway, I have lost another 10 pounds in the last 5 days. At this rate I will be down by a total of 70-90 lbs before the surgery!! unfortunatly my glucose around 80 is dipping into the 70s...its taking juice about every 2-3 hours to keep it above 80. Does anybody know how low you should let it go before taking action?
  25. It comes and goes, honestly. My stomach is definitely more sensitive than it was before surgery, where I ATE ALL THE THINGS! Now, my eating habits are pretty pedestrian. I keep to a diet that's based on deli meat, dairy like cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese, greens and the occasional bit of fruit. I'll deviate from that occasionally, but really my diet's pretty plain these days. Since it's just me, with nobody to eat my leftovers, I don't really care to cook because it'd go to waste by the time I could get around to eating it. I eat what agrees with me and don't really worry about it. It's kind of a nice change from inhaling everything in sight.
