    Health!

I'm 51 & had surgery 10 months ago. 90 lbs down - 35+- to go. Overweight since childhood, more & less, done everything including therapy (most helpful) & lost 100 lbs twice & gained it back. ((Once kept it off for 5 yrs). Love my band. All positive. BUT, I follow Everything my dr told me, did a lot of research & made a commitment to change my eating & exercise forever. All the best to you & everyone else! PS: I was self-pay & have a lot invested.

    My Endoscopy

Well, just wanted to update everyone. I had my Endo Monday morning and I am happy to say that I do not have any erosion which is what they were checking for since I am filled to 4.2 cc's in my 4 cc band. I just have some gastritis which is what is causing me some minor heartburn and the doc prescribed some Prevacid for that. Everything is in order so my weight loss problem is all on me. As far as the 4.2 cc fill, I guess I am just "special". What I did need from the doc was a swift kick to get back on the band wagon.
  3. Hi. I got my lap-band July 28. I haven't lost much weight yet - I'm hoping my next fill will solve that - it's next Thursday. It will be my third fill with x-ray. As long as I eat slowly, take small bites and chew very well, I can basically eat as much as always (I'm strictly following the not drinking with meals, etc). I'm looking forward to the feeling of fullness that I should be feeling. I'm on the lower end for qualifying for surgery - BMI 36 with diabetes and high blood pressure, so maybe that's part of my slower weight loss. I'm trying to stay optimistic, but I need something to start happening soon. I've lost just 16 pounds since the surgery - a good part of that just following surgery. I haven't told many about my surgery, but I'm sure that those I have told are wondering about the lack of weight loss. I'm showing no difference yet in clothes size. I've read every book I could find on the Lap-Band/weight loss surgery on Amazon.com. Hopefully, in 2 weeks time, I'll be on my way!!!!!!!!!:rolleyes

    New member

I got another fill last Thursday - now I'm at 9.4. It's great! For the first time I'm feeling the restriction where I can only eat so much. I'm down 5 pounds since Thursday, I'd lost 5 pounds last month (which was better than I thought). Some of the new weight loss may be dehydration, so I'm making sure to get all my liquids - which is a struggle. Today I wore pants that I haven't been able to wear since my last weight-loss-before-regain (a year ago with LA Weightloss). It was very exciting! I'm on a roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

    Carbs...UGH!

My nutritionist's advice: Eat as few carbs as you can, stomach as much Protein as you can (my goal is 60-80 grams a day). Drink the Protein shakes if you have to. There are ways to make meat or dairy protein more interesting. I am still on purées but made a pot roast, add a tsp of pesto or some salsa to chicken and eat hummus, tofu, greek yogurt, tuna, eggs, etc to break up the monotony. All these foods are high in protein. The more carbs you consume the harder it will be to lose weight over time. You can introduce cooked vegetables and some fruit (beware of the sugar) for variety but you should only be consuming starches and simple carbs in strict moderation.

    Tricare North - Bariatric Help

I am Tricare North Standard. In 2009 I was 5'2", 253 lbs., BMI 46 with HBP, cancer, and depression. Approved for lapband in a day. They required my weight history, mental health eval, other things were doctor requirements. I lost about 80 lbs. and kept it off for 6 years. Band started giving me issues with my esophagus and needs to come out. TriCare approved removal in a day, denied a revision to bypass. However, my doc did a peer to peer; on the website it looks like they have now approved the revision. That's not official yet, but if it is then it only took about four days for them to make that happen.

    Prednisone and weight gain

Mimi- Predinisone will make you gain weight. My mom use to have to take for her MS. She use to pack on the pounds. I remember her having a fit when she was told to take it again. Hope your pain goes away! Denise
  9. I had a Board celebration to attend last night (we just completed a $1.2 million fundraiser to renovate the stage in the theater I am Board president of) and was going through my closet in some frustration yesterday morning. They've seen this, they've seen that, they've seen that one a hundred times...Then, at the very back of the closet, was a black sheath with a floral jacket that I hadn't worn in over 10 years! I didn't know I even still had the thing! It was my favorite dress for a long time, and I used to wear it when I was this weight before, so....maybe.... I tried on the jacket, and voila! It fit! I was so excited all day, I could hardly wait to get dressed up for the fete! I have to attend 2 or 3 very dressy events each year for this theater, and I have never felt "pretty" even though I'm dressed to the nines. Last night, I felt pretty and the compliments were just rolling in! This morning I feel like I could go shopping...and I HATE shopping!

    Zoloft And Weight Gain

I had one son in Afghanistan and one in Iraq and need a little anxiety help last year. I can't say about Zoloft but the dr put me on Wellbutrin and I actually lost weight! Good luck
  11. Hello, Everyone! I am brand new to Lap-Band Talk and am so glad that I stumbled upon this support group! I just received approval this past week and have been scheduled for surgery Tuesday, January 6th. I'm so excited and very anxious, too. I've been reading everything I can about WLS and along with the consultation I've had with my surgeon, Dr. Britt in Guntersville, Alabama, I believe Lap-Band is the best solution for me. I've been struggling with the guilt and emotions that by submitting to WLS, I've basically admitted defeat - that I am a failure at being able to control my eating. I have a successful career as an engineer, have a wonderful husband and basically in the other areas of my life am in control. But, when it comes to controlling my weight - I am a total failure. I have lost between 60 to 70 lbs about 3 separate times in my life and not only gained that weight back but each time added 20 lbs more! So, now I'm at the heaviest I've ever been and it is affecting every area of my life. I know that the Lap-Band is just a tool - and as someone described it on this website - one leg of a tri-pod. The other two legs are exercise and eating right. But, it is a very important and critical leg that I have never been able to manage on my own before - controlling my appetite and hunger. I know I can lose weight (please see above) - but the key and critical part of the formula I've never been able to grasp - and that's keeping it off! So, this is what I'm praying that the Lap-Band will provide for me - that ability to control this monster appetite :devil_smile:and keep the weight off! :tongue2: Well, I know I'm rambling on and I apologize for that! If anyone has some advice on how to tame the nervousness before surgery - I'd love to hear it! thanks again! Sandy

    Zoloft And Weight Gain

I was put on Zoloft for anxiety and depression due to a bad job situation... 5 months and 60 lbs later... I took myself off. Effexor added another 20. Now, I'm off all the meds, and I've gotten the sleeve, partly because the metabolic changes those drugs caused in my body did not reverse, and I was gaining on only about 1500 calories daily. I need the sleeve now to allow me to eat a small enough amount not to keep gaining. I'm pretty anti meds due to this.
  13. Almost 11 weeks postop and down 44 pounds. I have lost half my excess weight!! Super excited! The first pic is the day before surgery: 222 The second pic is my all time highest: 255 And the last is today: 178!
  14. Today - I was the sexiest shopper in Walgreens - I purchased Gas X strips - because my stomach feels so bloated and almost pregnant - cant even suck it in, and I am constipated, so I bought liquid stool softener - on top of that gorgeousness, I also have a cold - so threw in some cold medicine. I have been up and down the same 3 pounds for 4 days - taking in MAYBE 600 calories a day - and exercising...I think my body is revolting against me...please tell me this will go away soon and the weight will drop again!
  15. Nancy, that's a shame. But it sounds like the problem is her low self-esteem, not anything that you have done. Perhaps your weight loss and repackaged exterior are threatening to her. I'm glad that you were able to talk with her and be honest with each other. You both have chosen different life paths. I was a stay-at-home mom after working 8 years straight. I loved it and felt honored to be able to. Some people just aren't cut out to stay home. Perhaps she should consider a part-time job. You have done such an amazing job with your weightloss. I, personally, am very, very happy for you! I hope all works out for the best for you!
  16. Hi all, I am almost 1 year out from my surgery date (I have lost 121 total pre-op and post op). I am going on vacation in 58 days (but who's counting) and I would like to lose another 15 pounds in that time. I don't think I can do it because I am losing much slower now. I do exercise 3-6 times a week (pretty intense workouts). I am wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions to help me get try to get to my goal before vacation. It's not my final goal I just want to be under 200 by the time I go on vacation. I thought I would be at my true goal now which is about another 55 pounds from where I am now. So I still have weight to lose, just very slow. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Were you a diabetic?

Question- I was banded 10-8-03 and I'm doing great! Losing weight eating lots of different foods. Before I was banded I was a type 2 diabetic for just over 1 year and took pills to control my blood sugar. 10mg glucotrol and 500 mg of gluopauge Every since surgery I have NOT taken any of my pills and have been okay. Well, at least I think I've been okay. I have not been testing everyday but maybe every 3rd day. My blood has been 140- 150 or 160. Under 200. Last night after I ate some cot cheese and applesauce I got a head ache and I had 8oz of ice tea and it went away. Then again today I had not had Breakfast yet and my head started hurting so I tested my blood and it was 153 I ate and felt better.. Did anyone have to go back on there meds? Did anyone stay on there meds? Just need some insite on what to do here. I'm affraid that if I lower my sugar by pills I'll be to low since I'm not eatting as much these days? and then be a shaking mess. Any suggestions? I hate to call my family doctor about this since he was so pissed I was having the surgery in the first place. THANKS!!!
  18. This isn't a weight-loss specific site, but it's a blog I've been reading for about a year or so now, and I just love it. The guy who runs it (Chef John) is a professional chef down in California and he does short online videos of all his recipes (He's also an about.com food guide and a foodbuzz featured publisher). It's great especially for people who may not be the best cooks cause you can kindof get a better idea for the technique of things by watching. Also, Chef John is rather funny, so the videos are not only informational, but entertaining as well. chicken.html" rel="external nofollow">some-good-frickin-paprika-chicken chicken-chili-or-chile-verde chicken-caesar-springrolls-ultimate-low-carb-wrap getting-under-skin-for-great-big-juicy-breasts turkey-chili-mooooooove-over-chuck garlic-fennel-and-orange-grilled chicken-breasts-with-herbs-de-provence budget-beef-merlot-succulent-beef roasted-pork-tenderloin-with-fresh-plum roast-pork-tenderloin-with-apple-dijon italian-meatballs-lets-get-rolling i-have-met-enemy-and-he-is-me-please black-pepper-crusted-pork-tenderloin Hope you enjoy!!

5 Weeks Post Op And Feeling Discouraged

Please don't be discouraged. You will get there. Dont watch the scale so much. It will torture you. It's going to take a year or so for the dramatic results. Just keep doing what you are doing. You didn't lose last week but you didn't gain either....
  20. First I would like to say that I am so grateful for this site and all of your comments. All of you have written wonderful advice. With that in mind, let me tell you that my surgery is this Friday 02/03/12 right on my hubbie’s B-Day! This surgery is my own present.. I turn 40 years old on super bowl Sunday, two days after my sleeve surgery. I currently weigh 208, but my heaviest was 222 I'm 5'0" A BMI of over 40 I began this journey last May when I got the approval from Kaiser to begin the Options program. This program was 3 months of weekly classes that prepares prospective weight loss Kaiser members that are ready to embark on this journey. I’m also extremely grateful for that program. So here I am, 2 days until my surgery. I am extremely nervous, I truly do have the jitters. I’ve have kept busy, preparing my home and husband and son for this big step. I’ve bought just about everything on my Kaiser shopping list and some items mentioned in these blogs. Currently I'm eating liquids and purees.. self imposed.. Kaiser only asked for one day of clear liquids prior to surgery and no food past 12:00 AM I am nervous, exited and worried all at once. Thank God for the internet!! It keeps me sane. But overall I AM READY!!! READY!

    Diet before surgery????

My doc had me lose approx 20 lbs prior, for all the reasons mentioned by others above. I didnt have to do the 2 week liquid diet before surgery just had to have clears the day before. The biggest scare for me was the fact that your liver holds on to fat and if it is enlarged pre op it can get in the way of the doctor banding you. :cursing: To eat out of control until January would for me, make it even harder to get on track and follow the regimen post op. I followed weight watchers, and got into an excercise program 3x a week and actually ended up dropping the entire 20 lbs which surprised the heck out of me. I also felt great going into surgery and now 1 week after having the band placed, I am looking foreward to getting back to the gym & feeling better. You should see a nutritionist as sson as possible and remember, it's not like you can never eat again as long as you live, the band is a tool to help you lose weight not a cure all.

    When is it enough restriction?

I would think because you have 7cc's now he should only add about .5cc's because if he adds a full cc you wont be able to keep any food down at all.. but if you try it then that should start you back at loosing weight. I Will be honest with you. I should be about 9cc's and the last time i got a fill was in march or either early april lol.. but he only put 1/2cc and i could only eat 1/4 cup of food poss. 2x's a day if that much i wasent hungry at all but thats not a good thing... i have loosened up since and feel great but if he fills you and you are too full let him know....

125 Loss Since Surgury June 5Th

Congrats on your weight loss!! I hope I can see some results like that! Still pre-op here, but I've read a lot about how your hormones fluctuate while you are losing weight. Some people experience issues with their short term memory, some have a hard time concentrating, and other get depressed. It's totally normal and should hopefully balance itself out when you lose the weight. It's worth discussing with your doctor. A therapist could help with all the stress in your life and the changes going on because of surgery/weight loss, and your MD might put you on a mild anti-depressant. I'd take advantage of both, if you can. But if you can't do counseling or aren't interested, I think a mild anti-depressant for a short term use is your best bet. Meds don't make the problem go away, but it does help with the emotions. In the meantime, try to spend time with people who make you happy. And the boards are here to lend an ear, and you're welcome to PM me if you need someone to talk to. It will get better. It's up to you if you want to wait it out or get help. Good luck, focus on taking care of you right now.
  24. I think I feel restriction. I am scheduled for my first fill on 7/2/08 but my appetite is minimal. I am more aware of the smells and look of food, and that makes me think I am hungry. I have been sticking very closely to what the doctor requests for my diet. I still feel fatigue and am not quite up to the exercise level I would like. I am cautious eating foods and my upper chest and throat feel tight often. I am most excited about my weight loss progress.

When are you able to start running?

My surgeon said wait 6 weeks before strenuous exercise (like weight lifting and running). I was the same way -- walking and walking and walking and when that 6 week point got here, boom, out for a run I went!!! Running when skinny is much more fun.
