    Anyone with IR or PCOS

I have PCOS but my sugars are just fine I went into this fully expecting to lose weight and drop sizes just like everyone else. It hasn't happened for me, and it probably won't either, not in any sort of decent time frame. At the rate I'm going it will take me about 6 years to lose the 95 pounds I need to lose. talk about depressing. I try to focus on what I've gained instead of what I don't lose. It is very difficult, believe you me, but I'm working my NSV list. That said, I would get banded all over in a heart beat. My asthma as all but disapeared. And that alone makes the band worth it.
  3. I was just wondering if there are any emotional NSVs that anyone is looking forward to. I am looking forward to not feeling ashamed when I run into someone I haven't seen in a long time or meeting new people. I'm also looking forward to feeling comfortable just sitting on a bench. Anyone else have an emotional NSV they've experienced or hope to experience?

    Body Image Issues

I hear you! You've lost a LOT of weight in a short time. I was banded right about the same time, and I'm going through the same thing. I still grab for the size 22/24's in my closet, and there are many 3X shirts that I have yet to put in the eBay pile. It's not that I think I'll gain weight back, it's that I still see myself as that size. I've stalled on the weight loss this past month, and I've come to the conclusion that my brain needed a break to catch up with my body. It'll be interesting to read the responses from the more experienced bandsters because I've been wondering the same thing myself... Will weight always be an obsession for us? Cause I'm sooooo sick of thinking about it. By the way - I think getting kicked out of Lane Bryant is one of the coolest NSV's I've ever read! You're doing a great job!

    Another NSV

Congrats!! Awesome NSV. I was in a size 8 ring (my class ring) and it hasn't been worn in MONTHS! I miss it as it was my favorite ring but my fingers are now about a size 5. I love it!! Enjoy your tax return; I always owe, even at 19.

    Successful Band Stories here!

Oh those NSV's are even more important than the scale victories I think. Really, who cares what you weigh, its all about how you feel.

    NSV!

I have been so morbidly obese for so long I got used to not being able to do much. I couldn't fit through certain openings or chairs, can't pick up things off the floor, can't fit in my seatbelt and have to use an extender, and when I sit in my car the wheel rubs against my stomach even if the seat is all the way back. These are things some of you may have experience with and some of you may not as I was on the high high end at 540 when I started. I've been trying to get myself to try doing things but I'm so afraid I still won't be able to. It's really a daily mental struggle. I haven't driven much since my sleeve surgery in May because I've had a lot of health craziness and I got in my car the other day and my extender wasn't clicked in so I tried to click my seatbelt without the extender and I fit! I was so excited! It wasn't until then that I looked down at the wheel and almost happy cried. My stomach was a good 4-5 inches from the wheel and I could probably move the seat up when before I hardly fit in the seat when it was all the way back. I know the picture is weird but I was excited! Nsvs Last Week

What an exciting week for you! I love reading about the NSV, because I believe they are the real victories. Congratulations and keep up the good work.
  11. Glad to hear your cardiology appointment went well. We have had lots of experience with them here lately, my DH had to have heart surgery to repair a valve. And I am taking my Dad to see his cardiologist tomorrow to schedule carotid artery surgery again. Hopefully then it will be over for awhile!!! It is more difficult than I expected to see yourself differently as the weight comes off. I remember when I realized how huge I had gotten! I caught sight of myself in a mirror in the mall! I was horrified--I did not realize it was me, I honestly thought the fat lady had a shirt like me and that alone embarassed me, imagine when I realized it WAS me! I had bought the bigger clothes, and lived with the fat on my body day in and day out, but still "saw" myself as normal. Til that fateful day in the mall. Now I find myself doing similar things in reverse. I see something clothing wise I like, and I still insist on trying on the 2X minimally. I still feel like people see me as fat. I do things that shock myself! Today I was spraying down the stove top, and was afraid I would ruin my shirt, so I grabbed an old apron of my Moms----and for years the only way I could ever tie it was behind me. Today for some reason I flashed back to my highschool retail days, and wrapped the ties around and tied them in the front. When I realized I could do that it almost reduced me to tears!!! When I took it off, I retied it, and looked at it---it was a wonderful NSV..... Next time you are in the store, walk over to the potatoes, or the dog food and pick up a 20 pound bag....and just think you have already lost that---and look at the 50 pound bag, and tell it you will be back!!! Well, I am off to bed, the trip to take Dad to the Dr. will be an all day adventure in snow packed roads! Kat

    Happy About Some Nsvs Today...

Thanks so much to all who replied. I thank you for the compliments and loved seeing NSVs added from others as well. Your responses are so encouraging. To those who are still pre-surgery; it won't be long before you are writing your own NSVs. I was on this board for 6 months or so before having surgery and it was a great resource so I know where you are coming from. RosieSweetie - I loved your NSV about not having to worry about losing luggage since you can shop anywhere now. My husband and I love to cruise and we go on at least two a year. Of course the shops on board probably carry XL at the most. I've never been able to shop in them. We are going on our next cruise in August and, if things continue to go as they have, I should be able to pick up some cute top or something. In fact, now that I think about it I am going to make it a point to do so (even if I think the price is ridiculous which they usually are As we continue this journey together, please continue to share NSVs. I love reading them too! Susie

    Nsv: Me On Film

Yesterday was my stepson's 9th birthday, so we took some pics and video of the festivities. I was nervous to check them out, but when I looked at the pictures and video, I still thought I looked "big," but I didn't feel like I looked "sloppy" and I wasn't disgusted and sad after looking. That's a pretty big deal for me--so yay!

    Nsv

Well done Saintluver, great effort! I can't wait to be able to buy clothes because I like them and not because I can get into them! I'm in the middle of a big clean out ... lot's of stuff doesn't fit anymore so it's going, and I'm moving down through the size rack that my wardrobe had become! My NSV this week was on the weekend I took part in a women's triathlon event. I did the swim leg for the team and despite not breaking any speed records I was so excited to actually be there taking part. Several months ago I wouldn't have dreamed of being seen in public in a swimsuit, let alone running from the pool to transition area in one :faint: I am so excited about the new life I am creating, sure the weight loss is great, but even better is the feeling that I can be a part of the 'normal' world. I left with a goal that next year I would enter the small event as an individual ... better get training for that bike and run leg! :whoo:

  19. Hello Fellow Vets! I was just wondering what everyone's plans are for getting back on track after the Christimas Season? I haven't really done terrible but I did gain 3 pounds in the past two months. It really scares me. I don't really feel I eat more just made some bad choices. But with the weight gain, I HAVE to be eating more. Seems that old "sugar" habit is sneaking back in my life. I've decided to set a new goal for myself and be at goal by my 2 year surgeversay in May. I really want to have a BMI of less than 25 and be at my healthy goal of 145 to 150 by then. I'm excited about getting back on track and having some normalcy in my life after the holidays. I've also had a lot of stress in my life lately and am still dealing with the GERD issues and esophageal spasms. I've decided to try and live with it even though I'm on meds and probably will be forever. I still can't sleep on my sides and have to sleep propped up on my back or else I will get a spasm and they hurt like CRAZY!! Bypass isn't an option as long as I can function without doing more surgery. I can keep down food obviously so I pray that things stay stablized. Well, would love to hear how you guys are doing and what ideas y'all have for the new year! OH NSV.. Even though I gained three pounds, I was able to buy a size 10 jeans yesterday and they fit comfortably. I don't think I will be able to wear a size 10 in everything but I was happy happy happy to buy these! Decided to post these before and afters. I am still so grateful to have made it this far! Would love to see before and afters of my fellow vets! It really does help to see how far we ALL have come. GOD BLESS!

    Driver's License

This has been one of my greatest NSV's so far. I have never told the truth on my license, and it says 350. Last time I had it renewed I weighed 393. Now I'm 126 pounds less than what driver's license says! I'm gonna tell the truth next time ha ha. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
