    Also A Slow Loser...

Had surgery 8/10,only list 35lbs. Went for an adjusting Tuesday, had not been since 3/11,very discouraged. Tryin to start with a new slate. My downfall is I hate all protein shakes, that either make me gag or throw up. Major frustratated. I'm now current first day of mushy food, for bfst I had a hard boiled egg ,*shrugs*,so far that's all until lunch and I have tuna fish
  2. Hello! I am almost 5 months out, and 55 lbs down! The last week or so, I've been getting muscle pains in my back. Last week it was one muscle, this week it's the muscle below. I don't know what's going on, bit I wonder if it has to do with weight loss? Has anyone else experienced this?
  3. I had a laproscopic hysterectomy 10 days ago. I have done remarkably well with that surgery. I overdid it a few days ago and started cramping so I took one of my pain pills (Lortab 7.5 mg). Well, it made me nauseous and I vomited yesterday morning. Felt bad the whole rest of the day and then after dinner last night, I noticed that I had heartburn and reflux. Took a Pepcid with no relief and took some Tums which helped a small amount. Was fine all day today and then got heartburn and reflux after dinner again tonight. I have an appointment with my band doctor on the 18th of this month. I have 7.5 cc in a 10 cc band and think I'm right where I need to be. I've lost 64 pounds since surgery on June 4, 2010. I have only vomited 2-3 times since being banded so of course I am worried about my band. Just need to get some reassurance from you fine folks. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Sandy
  4. Something I wanted to let you guys know... After getting sleeved, you will feel like you regret even getting it. (Atleast some ppl feel like this, not all) You will have head hunger.. Thinking you're hungry when you're not... For me it was VERY hard to see the fast food commercials on TV. I thought I was going to die lol You will get sick & tired of liquids & purée... It sucks big time. I'm over 5 months post op ; & I am letting you know now.. IT GETS ALOT EASIER!!!! Knock out your few weeks of the soft foods stage & you will feel better about surgery! & when you get farther in your journey ; you'll deff realize that you don't regret it. Hope this helps some ppl!

    colds when sleeved?

My surgery was Sept 8th. At my 3 week post-op mark, my kids brought home head lice. I had to clean like a freak, do massive amounts of laundry and treat & check 3 heads, plus mine. My hubby just shaved his hair. Lol! I paid for it by over doing it and actually ended up taking some pain meds I had left over, plus some valium from having my hiatal hernia repair done at the same time, as well. Because I over did myself, I ended up getting sicker than a dog with a nasty head cold. I had been down for 4 days and completely exhausted. I could not function. Then my 8 year old comes home with a concussion. Oh dear God! I am at wits end. I literally cannot handle anything else right now. My husband has been a saint thru this whole thing. I ended up calling my Nut because I was having extreme pain in my left shoulder on my collar bone when I would eat. It would last for 15 minutes afterward. She told me to take a step back in my foods and go back to really soft mushies. October 7th, my birthday, would have been the day when I can eat normal foods. My nut said it is a referred pain from my hiatal hernia repair. My esophagus is enflamed, as well as my hiatal hernia repaired area. So, eating won't be as easy again until the swelling goes down and the coughing settles down too. I also have to increase my Protein in take to 100g and no less than 64 oz of Fluid everyday. My body is trying to still recover from surgery and is also really trying to fight a nasty cold. So, it doesn't leave me with much of anything to have any energy at all. I am grounded to the couch for another 2-3 days to recover. I've already been there for 4 days. I think I've grown roots already. Ha! I hate just sitting/laying down doing nothing. But, I also feel horrible. I've also been advised not to go to a funeral that is out of town for obvious reasons. Either have to take care of getting myself feeling better and stay on the down low or end up in the ER. So, I am being a couch potato and sprouting roots. Being sick with the sleeve in the 1st month of recovery makes everything about 10 time harder. Trust your doctors and keep healthy, even if you have to post pone. Hopefully, my light at the end of the tunnel will appear in the next couple days. I am so anxious to not be sick anymore and just focus on becoming the healthy me again!!!
  6. I'm worried that my a1c is going to delay my surgery... I've started checking my sugars in prep for the liquid diet, and they've been running pretty high. Now my a1c is being taken on Thursday, and I'm just terrified that this will mean another surgery delay. I know, I know, I can wait... But it doesn't mean I want to wait any more. My doc is self admittedly OCD, and wants everything to be perfect operating conditions, but the two week liquid diet pre and post will totally reduce sugars... /cry
  7. I know when I was first home from the hospital the smallest sip of anything produced all kinds of gurgeling from my stomach and that has stopped. I am actually suprised how much more I can drink at one time now. At nearly 3 months out I am noticing I have all kinds of noises going on when I eat. It ranges from stomach growling sounds to needing to burp or sometime a belch with out warning. At work my co worker has been very good about this as we work and eat in close quarters and she knows it is from the surgery. I don't worry so much at restaurants as there is enough noise to cover it all. What I do worry about is having to be out with someone I am not usually around and all that noise occurring. Does it get better with time like the the sipping did?

    Food Breakup?

Almost a year and a half out. I love food. I'm down about 110 pounds - depending on the day I fluctuate between loss of 106 and 110. Some days, I do want food. Others, not so much. I still love food. My hubby and I go out to eat, but I take most of it home in a take out box. I still love it, but I no longer let it abuse me, like I did before. Its about saying goodbye to a toxic relationship. You are developing a health relationship with food - before we lived to eat. Now, we eat to live. Yesterday, I had a bad day - on a number of levels, and didn't stay with the program and ate too many carbs. I'm paying for it today because I feel like crap. But those first few weeks (I couldn't wait for a bite of scrambled egg) are rough. But remember, this is only a tool. You still have work to do. And you can do it.
  9. So I have just stepped over the border into onederland!! Took a little longer than I thought it would, and the last stall felt like forever! I still have almost 20 pounds to lose to reach the goal weight I set pre-op...180...I figure that's reasonable for my 5'8" larger frame. I haven't been under 200 in over 20 years! *happy dance*

    Protein Bar

Alrighty thanks I am 6 weeks post op but wasn't sure when to start bars
  11. Thankyou! :frown: I haven't actually felt hungry yet which is amazing but is annoying at the same time because I am basically eating when I know I need to and it makes it hard becuase I can't tell if I'm more full then what I was before I ate....lol...confusing I know! That is great to know about upto 1 cup of food per 2hrs...currently I have been having about 1/2cup of food every 2.5-3hrs...and I still haven't been hungry - so I might stick with that until the 2 weeks post op is up. I was banded on 7 May - 4days ago. Thanks again for your suggestions
  12. I worry about it from time to time myself. I'm guessing your still on the liquid stage? From what I got from my surgeon is, you can eat up to a full cup of food every two hours, but 3/4th of a cup is the best result. I just got a food scale, you can buy them at walmart. I find they are great when you can't fit something easily into a measuring cup and need to know the amount of onces it weighs. Basically, if it's under 8 onces, your still safe. Measure out the food before you put it on your plate and weigh it. Then eat no more than that. If your still hungry afterward, you might need a fill. But at least you know your not overeating.
  13. Some people think 1 time every week is good some think it's good for every day. Yours to choose I step on every morning helps me keep control. What ever way works for you good luck
  14. I have been waiting for almost eight months for mine. I finally got the ok from the insurance five days ago. I scheduled the surgery two weeks from tomorrow. I start my new diet tomorrow. Recently everything has been moving so fast. I'm really excited and scarred at the same time. I'm 5'1 and weigh 200 pounds. To many it might be crazy that I'm doing a sleeve but they only see the 200 and not the fact that I'm short, really short for the weight. I really do not have anybody to share what I'm feeling so I'm glad I found this forum. Schedule date for the surgery is Oct 2. Does anyone have any good shakes that they recommend?

    New Blog

Hi All-- I figured I would start my blog of my journey now... It is June 15th and I have a few more weeks of band free living but am debating about starting a pre- pre diet - I am kinda sick of food right now.... I have been pretty much eating anything I want and have lost 3 damn lbs!! Now how the hell does that happen? I am totally uncomfortable in all of my clothes and can't wait to drop the first 20 lbs so my clothes fit comfortably again. Spent the weekend in Ohio with Lorenzo and we had a wonderful time. He has finally decided that he can support me in my efforts to perm. lose weight. I am glad about that- I don't think I can have negative people around me while going through this process.

    Overwhelmed and Frustrated

I felt the same way - To be honest I still have these days 3 months out. Just tonight I ate too quickly and felt that pressure in my chest. I am much better dealing with it now than I was when I was at your stage. In fact I remember many times crying from frustration early on - saying the exact same thing - "I just want to be able to be normal and eat normal food!" I am not much help but I promise it does get better.

    Overwhelmed and Frustrated

I am 3 weeks out and I have been getting the food coming up in my throat after I eat. I started omneprazole I had at the house and called the dr. He is orderring the kind he wants me to take. I had hoped this would not happen to me but maybe it will be a short lived thing. I also started eating pickle chips. Mainly i suck on them and then eat the inside of it. They tasted so good. Wonder if this is bad?

    Approved!

I really hope I'm doing the right thing. This whole process from deciding to surgery has only taken 3 weeks. I go in tomorrow. Last minute glitters!

    What's Your Diet Consist Of?

I am on my second week and am eating apple sauce. It's like heaven.. Of course it's no sugar added. On week 4 I can add sweet potatoes, mash cauliflower. Carbs eventually but minimally - like 1/2 slice toast with breakfast. (sorry for the blank post, I am new to this) Amy

    Time off work

I too am an RN and plan on going back to work after 1 week. I work in labor and delivery so there isn't much lifting. I know it will probably be a little rough but we nurses are tough!!!! lol. I also work with a great bunch of girls and know they will help me if I need it. Good luck to you! Please let us know how you do.

    Aromatherapy

So, I'm in the first week post-op and my diet is pretty restricted. I actually don't mind, since nothing exactly appeals to me at this point. Cream of potato Soup was absolute heaven to me, especially since I decided to squeeze my Protein in another way, so I was able to eat the soup HOT, not just luke-warm. Oddly, I'm perfectly happy to have my husband eating REAL food - hey, at least it makes the house smell good. I enjoy the smell, even if I can't have any of what he's having. Plus, he's been an absolute angel taking care of me, so it makes me feel good to be able to feed him something yummy to take care of him in return. I can tell some people are having a much harder time watching their loved ones eat real food, but I guess I'm lucky. So, this is pretty weird, but I've discovered my absolute favorite thing post-op is "coffee kisses". I'm not supposed to have coffee yet, even decaf, because the acid in it can be tough on my healing tummy. But my husband can have coffee. The aroma is heavenly. And even better, a nice hearty good-morning kiss, and I get a bit of coffee flavor too. Fourth of July grilled hot dog kisses somehow weren't quite as wonderful, but hey - it was worth a shot. Try it - you may like it!!
  22. Well I just wanted to give everyone an update. I was sleeved at about 3 o'clock this afternoon. When I woke up in recovery at 445 I was in a lot of pain that took awhile to get that under control unfortunately. I also started to walk around and do laps so I'm hoping that will help a little with the pain some. i'm pretty groggy from anesthesia as well as pain meds but hoping tomorrow be a better day! Hope everyone else is hanging in there and has a good night.

    1st day with the sleeve!

Thanks everybody! Day 2 and most of Day 3 were challenging for me as I had a nasty migraine that we couldn't get control of - making the belly pain considerably worse since I had dry heaves from the migraine and related nausea. So happy it's day 4 and the migraine is gone! I'm still quite sore but doing MUCH better - I even slept for 5 hours straight last night. Got all of my liquids in yesterday but it was a challenge so that's my main goal for today as well... Hope all the other June sleevers are hanging in there

    Favorites

Hi all! Just wondering what you favorite meals are since banding. I have only been banded 2 weeks but want to know what I have to look forward to as well as new ideas. Tell me your favorite meals (With approx. portion size eat). I have recently developed much more interest in cooking--which is good since I probably won't want to eat out as much!
