I was sleeved April 27 (5 days ago) and I'm doing good! Thing is, I'm already so tired of the same things. The full liquids stage leaves me fast and leaves me feeling hungry. I've been eating yogurt, Cream of Wheat, soup, broth, sf jello, protein shakes...I need some varieties! Any new ideas?

I've heard this is very common... nurse told me to get unflavored whey isolate to mix in broth, yogurt, etc..have to cool down the broth before u put it in ... the nausea will likely get better so I've read

How is maintenance going for you?
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You just have to make up your mind to eat Protein first and some veggies and if you snack between meals, it's with protein. nuts are okay, and I will sometimes have a cheese stick with a few Fiber one crackers . They aren't very bad as far as carbs go and I only need about 3 with a cheese stick. I allow myself one snack in the evening like a sf pudding or a ww fudgesicle. Lately I have really been enjoying plain greek yogurt with coconut sf syrup mixed in. pretty yummy! -
I'm 3 weeks post op, I'm on the soft/puree phase and looking for some breakfast ideas. I do eggs, egg beaters, yogurt or roast beef hash. I don't like cottage cheese and can't do too much dairy. And no protien shakes or adding protien powder to my foods because they just don't sit well in my stomach. So if you have any other ideas please share away!! Thanks in advance!

I am day two of my 10 day preop liquid diet and so far i am having a terrible time tolerating the protein shakes.
Lissa replied to onenurseforu's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I had a problem with the sweetness of some of the Protein shakes, so I used Espresso flavored Click powder (available on Amazon) and a couple of Protein Shakes that I found pre-made at my local Sam's club. After surgery, sweet didnt' set well at all, so I drank gallons of chicken and beef broth, low sodium versions. I also drank a lot of decaf coffee with the Protein Powder mixed into it. unjury makes a chicken Soup flavored protein powder that some say is really good. I never did try that one. I was allowed yogurt and cottage cheese on my liquid diet, so I ate a lot of those as well. I'm lactose intolerant now, so I don't do either post-op. -

Get a usb coffee warmer. It will change your life. I pretty much did Soup, broth, ricotta, hummus and yogurt for those 2 weeks. Tried refried Beans. Wasn't a fan. Odd because I love beans.

I slowly started adding more fat and healthy carbs when I was within 10 pounds of my goal weight. Switched from skim milk to 1%, fat free cottage cheese to regular, 0% Greek yogurt to 2%, replaced some protein bars with whole grain bars and homemade granola, ate more fruit and nuts, allowed myself a few more deserts, etc. I lost another 20 pounds even after transitioning to a "maintenance diet". My body just found its new normal and I can pretty much keep myself within a 4-5 pound bounce range just by altering my carb intake up or down as needed. Basically eat whatever unless I hit the top end of my range then I go back to protein and veggie basics until I'm back to the bottom of my range. I still always get 60-80g protein, 64+ oz water, a variety of veggies and all my vitamins.

I am also on a similar pre-op diet for a 14th date of surgery. What kind of shakes are you drinking? I have found great success with the Premier shakes from Costco. They have 30 grams of protein and are very low in carbs. What about excercise? Water? Fiber? Sometimes, when I have lowered my fiber -ex. in a high protein diet I can't "go" to save my life, and need a bit of help if you know what I mean... One thing that is different with my diet, is that I get 2 servings of fat free greek yogurt in between my shakes. I am loosing about 1/2 lb per day. Hope this helps!

Stage 2 for me was anything that didn't require chewing. Most days, I'm eating Greek yogurt, fat free refried beans (sometimes melt some fat free shredded cheese on top), mashed potatoes (not often - they're not the most nutritious pick!), turkey chili w/no beans (higher protein)...

Frozen Yogurt In Shakes?
4ALongerLife replied to beachlover1129's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Ditto to dorrie robles. Don't add frozen yogurt to your shakes. There are so many other items you can add that make it healthier and low fat. For instance, SF flavored syrup (like what they add in coffee shops but make sure you get the SF) or SF jello packets - yes, that's right, they add flavor for you w/o adding too many calories. The frozen yogurt just adds calories is why I said what I did. -
I have a couple jars that I've had shipped here from the States, but I don't use it much. Sometimes it's yummy in my Greek yogurt together with some sf choc pudding powder, but I don't do shakes, which is where I could see it really shining. I've tried mixing it with Water but the taste and texture don't do it for me. =\ If I'm honest, I just order crunchy Jif and eat that lol. It's very hard for me to overeat it, as its the opposite of a slider for me. But a spoonful a few days a week has been my go-to soother food since surgery. One interesting use of PB2, for me, is as a flour substitute in some sauces. Adds great flavor and body to some.

So... what does Dumping Syndrome actually FEEL like?
Matt Z replied to erik_da_viking's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just wanted to let you know that Muscle milk isn't lactose free. As per their website. http://www.musclemilk.com/learn/ DO MUSCLE MILK® PRODUCTS CONTAIN MILK OR DAIRY? The term “dairy” on a food product, pertains to foods such as milk, cream, half and half, yogurt, ice cream, and custards. Since dairy is a regulated term, to qualify as a dairy product you need to contain fluid “milk” or certain “dairy” ingredients conforming to the federal standard of identity for “milk“ or “dairy”. Key Points: MUSCLE MILK® Ready to Drink Protein Shakes are derived from milk (calcium caseinate, sodium caseinate, milk protein isolate, milk protein concentrate and/or whey protein concentrate, depending on product.) Since these ingredients are more refined than milk, (reduced lactose, cholesterol and fat content), it is not the same thing as milk. So technically speaking, MUSCLE MILK® Protein Shakes are ‘non-dairy’ and are labeled on the bottle as such. An example of another ‘non-dairy’ product derived from milk ingredients is non-dairy creamers. MUSCLE MILK® Ready to Drink Protein Shakes do contain milk proteins and therefore should not be consumed by persons with milk allergies. MUSCLE MILK® Smoothie Yogurt Protein Shakes do contain milk in the form of Greek-style yogurt and added whey protein concentrate. MUSCLE MILK® Protein Powders, similar to Ready to Drink Shakes do contain proteins derived from milk, but in a powdered form. It's important to note that Whey is made from Milk, and not all Whey protein is the same. Whey Isolate has a greatly reduced lactose content and that's what makes it easier for those with lactose issues to tolerate, but no Whey is 100% lactose free, since it's derived from Milk. -

What pureed food have you guys tried with success?
kathywithakay replied to Poorehouse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love pureed lo fat cottage cheese with a scoop of vanilla protein powder. It sort of tastes like cheese cake:) My other favorite is black beans, 1 scoop of Unjury Chicken Soup protein powder,1/2 cup water and baked chicken breast pureed in the Vitamix. Then top with a bit of Greek Organic Yogurt. I have just begun the pureed stage and will be doing it for a month so I would also love to hear what others are eating through this phase. -
Protein, vitamins, fluids and if you want to add some carbs do so in the form of more complex ones like thinned cream of wheat/oatmeal or no sugar added dairy (yogurt, cottage cheese and even milk have plenty of naturally occurring lactose which is sugar). The refined sugars or even the fructose in fruit juices might not be the best idea this early out:

No hernia NaNa. I ate pretty much nothing on Monday and Tuesday, just ice chips and a Protein drink when I got home Tuesday afternoon. I have been sticking to my guidelines and here is what I have been eating Bandista: Protein shakes mashed potatoes cottage cheese yogurt pinto Beans pudding creamy chicken Soup Colby/jack cheese Water Crystal Light Everything above is on my list. I don't go to see my surgeon for three weeks. Should I call now? I am curious if my asthma is trying to flare up and this is affecting my reflux?

Calling any parents: are you afraid your child will be obese?
sslouha replied to lauragshsu's topic in The Lounge
My daughters are 13 and 14, the 13 year old has no issues what so ever, the older one I know will. Right now she is active but bulky! She has yearly check ups and so far she is fine, but the Dr is keeping a close eye on her and has told her to eat healthier and no more diet mountain dews. Since she is so you I am not on her, because she still is a kid, I just watch what she is eating. The one thing I am noticing she is eating more and more like me. She is eating all my veggies and eating my yogurt. Studies show that children will eat like their parents and I am seeing that now. So relax let your little one be herself, as you go loosing in this process she will copy what you are eating. I also bought the Jillian Micheal's Cook book she has great recipes that kids love with out all of the refined or process foods. Good luck Sandee -
So far today, I've had a cup of black coffee (no cream is part of the punishment) for breakfast. A double-liver-water for snack, and a 1% yogurt cup for lunch.

Was introduced to wow butter last week. I feel like I can live again. Although it has a really roasted nut taste to it..I am so enjoying it for Breakfast. I can now have a choice of Raisin Bran, Wow Butter toast, Wild Roots, organic Granola or another newbie for me Wild Roots, organic Multi-Grain Cereal. And of course yogurt or all the other things..But the choices are starting to expand..And I love it!!!!!! Brings a smile to my face every day now!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes!

Any One-Kidneyed Folks Here?
joyful noise replied to Artichokes's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I have both kidneys, but am stage 3 kidney disease. At my last visit to the nephrologist, he said 60-80 g of Protein was ok, but to watch my Calcium. I was eating yogurt 3 times a day because the nut said it was in place of milk, but with the calcium pills, the calcium test was too high. He made me get off the yogurt until I see him in August. I probably won't be having my surgery until September, so we see what happens. -
Same weight 14 days-7 weeks post-op

Any suggestions to doctor yogurt up? I eat vanilla and put 1 T pumpkin seeds in there for crunch. I'm getting bored, but it's a high protein source. Thanks all. Appreciate it!! -
Let me start with saying I am almost 3 weeks out... The first week just plain sucked. My PCP put me on some anxiety meds to take the edge off. Hoping I won't need them for long but I have had problems with anxiety all my life. It is at a high right now. Us usually I can self control it....but I am getting better everyday. I got moved to pureed/mushy foods on Wednesday. I have had cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and mashed potatoes. Have handled them all fine. I can get my fluids in no problem and falling only a little short on Protein cuz Protein drinks are getting old... I have yet to start actually excersizing but try to walk for at least 15 minutes per day at least 6 times a week. Once I'm cleared to swim I will return to my gym for elliptical time and Water aerobics... My main 2 complaints my hair is falling out really bad already... 3 weeks out.. I don't want to be bald and I'm terrified Second is sleep. I think I have gotten 1 decent night of sleep in almost 3 weeks. First week... Uncomfortable and upset and just couldn't... Second week my family had the stomach bug I have been up with 2 sick kids all last weekend cleaning throw up and blankets and floors... Now my 5 yr old wakes up like a newborn... And if he actually sleeps I wake up at 630 and can't sleep... I am so tired and my body is suffering as well as my brain. If I get goof sleep I lose weight if I don't it goes up.... I am so frustrated and irritable during the day and my hubby is no help cuz he works in the morning.... Thanks for letting me get that off my chest....
