  1. I second everything @@jdc121975 said. Carbs aren't the devil but in the beginning they are kind of terrible for you. Especially if that is the majority of food you're eating. You can sabotage yourself very easily this way - it's a slippery slope. How about yogurt? Has pureeing meat with maybe some cottage cheese worked for you? How about refried Beans (yes, these are a carb too, but also full of Fiber and protein)? Have you tried different kinds of cheese? I had similar problems in the beginning. Not much of my food came back up but almost all food items made me feel sick and full and they say strangely and uncomfortably in my stomach. It's much, much better now.
  2. If you figure on 21 grams of Protein with each meal, and a morning, afternoon, and bedtime snack of 7 grams, that is 84 grams of protein right there. For example, this morning for Breakfast, I had a one egg ham and cheese omelet with a couple bits of green pepper. ...Boom...21 grams. For a mid-morning snack, I could have 3 ounces of Greek Yogurt with a handful of blueberries.....9 grams of protein. How about for lunch, let's have a scoop of tuna salad with 3 ounces of tuna - 21 grams of protein. I make two ounces of tuna with a chopped boiled egg...still 21 grams. I might have a sweet gherkin on the side if I have room. Maybe an afternoon snack could be 1/2 a Protein shake made with 4 ounces of milk.....that is another 15 grams of protein. dinner might be 3 ounces of chicken and a sprig of broccoli .....21 grams more. Bedtime snack sometimes is once ounce of deli turkey rolled up with 1/2 ounce slice of provolone cheese.....finishing the day out with another 7 grams. I keep sugar free Jello made up in case I get hungry during the night and want to eat my thumbs. So, there you go. Just with this example, you have 89 grams of protein, 700 calories, and 23 carbs. That gives you room for additional veggies, fruit, dairy, condiments...whatever your plan allows.
  3. No, I don't eat meat all day but I do eat protein all day. In addition to meat (mostly turkey, tuna, fish, and chicken), I eat a lot of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, Beans, and some nuts.
  4. How has your Fluid intake been post op? This is one area my nutritionist and surgeon couldn't stress enough: Water. Get at least 48 oz (with many recommendations being 60 oz daily). My BM's are always more difficult to move the day after I haven't taken in enough water. Once you can progress to yogurt I would do so. The live active cultures will help your gut flora.
  5. crunchy - Quest chips, Simply Protein Chips, Healthwise Protein Chips, Claussen pickles, raw veggies dipped in ranch or poppyseed dressing, Kashi Go Lean Cereal Savory - jerky, nuts, cream cheese and olives rolled in prosciutto or thin sliced ham, summer sausage, hard boiled egg, shredded chicken or pork with cheese melted in, shrimp cocktail, tuna melt on a tomato slice, string cheese, Sweet - apples and Peanut Butter, protein hot chocolate with various Torani syrups added, cottage cheese with Muscle Milk cake batter Protein powder (tastes like cheesecake), plain Greek yogurt flavored to taste with peaches, mangos, berries, protein powder or Torani syrup, Natures Valley Protein Bar, Quest bar (and there's all sorts of dessert recipes on their website)
  6. Protein was always the center at each meal for me; egg for breakfast, protein shake, fish, turkey, beans for lunch and dinner both with small amounts of veggie. I can't eat raw salad yet just doesn't go down well. If you want to lose more definitely increase your protein and watch the nuts(high in calories). I also have a snack usually yogurt or cottage cheese with berries.
  7. Hi all, I was sleeved Dec. 7th so far I'm down 50 lbs. Kinda getting bored with the same old protein song and dance of cheese, chicken, yogurt looking for other ideas like nuts (what kinds, how many oz.)and any other snack or meal ideas. So far I've not had any problems keeping things down or pains (fingers crossed) so all ideas welcome Thanks
  8. My doc has me concentrating on proteins and as for texture, if a baby cant eat it I cant eat it. Heres my meal plan from my doc: Stage 2: Up to week 3: Full liquids: Aim for 3-6 high protein, liquid meals. You will be consuming 4 oz meals every 3-4 hours. Sip slowly and STOP when you start feeling fill, even if you haven't finished your meal. Includes: - all clear liquids (sugar free, calorie free, caffeine free, non carbonated beverages. - skim milk or lifht soy milk - approved protein shakes (must have 27 gms protein) - I use bariatric advantage - non fat, plain greek yogurt (Fagr, Chobani), Dannon light and fit yogurt (all flavors) Hope that helps!
  9. We don't have any junk food in our house, but our kids do eat bread, rice and Pasta. I can't rid the house of those foods. They are all quite thin and need carbs as an energy source. I am the only one in our house that needs to eat less. I have kids and their way of eating has changed a LOT since my surgery and they have always been thin and don't need to diet (I have a growing teen boy who eats a TON lol!) They now eat only whole wheat or sourdough (no sugar) bread and only two slices a day. They either have it at Breakfast and lunch is more Protein based (tuna salad, chicken salad, meat and cheese roll ups, etc) or they can have a sandwich at lunch. I no longer serve bread at dinner. Potatoes are once or twice a month as is pasta. I can't remember when I last made rice! Sides are Beans and yams and veggies and salads. Lots of lean protein, fruit and veggies. Lots of dairy. Whole wheat crackers and cheese (I am careful to buy crackers I don't particularly like LOL!), apples and Peanut Butter, tortilla chips (which luckily I don't care for) with salsa and guacamole, raw veggies wth homemade hummus or blue cheese Greek yogurt dressing. Kids don't NEED pasta, rice, potatoes and bread.
  10. Came home Thursday. So far, so good. Absolutely no problem, unless you consider that I can drink my egg-white Protein shakes in five minutes a problem. However, just because I can drink them fast, I try not to. I actually hope I have more problem with solid food, once I start it. Also no problem getting my 64 oz of Water. Have not come close to throwing up! One big surprise (considering my food addiction) is, so far, food is of no interest to me. I actually feel the same before my Protein shake as I do afterward, and that "same" is the fact that I just plain don't want to eat! Today, I only had two 12-oz shakes and one low fat yogurt, I just couldn't bear the thought of that last shake. Didn't pee much in the hospital, but once I got home, I started peeing large volumes of urine every hour, 24/7 (does not make for a restful night sleep). Then, today, even though I drank the same amount of water as Thursday and Friday, I started retaining Fluid and my urine volume has been greatly reduced. Even had some hand and feet edema today. Hopefully, I'll soon settle at a happy medium. Ninety-five percent of all the gas pain is alleviated. So far, since last Monday, I've lost 16 pounds, however I'm not too excited as I am sure it is all water weight. Supposed to start soft solid food on Wednesday, I'll report back after that time.

    Any FEBRUARY sleevers?!

Feb 3rd. Lost 14 pre-op, 23.5 since surgery. Going pretty well so far!Are you still feeling any discomfort and are you able to get all of your Protein and liquids consistently? Congrats on the weight loss, you are doing wonderful Oh what food stage at you on? No discomfort, that ended a few days ago. I'm on purée stage two. So far I've made seafood bisque and pizza soup (it was incredible) and eat about 2/3 of a cup. I also tried Wendy's chili, but wasn't a fan. My favorite was puréed Campbell's chicken enchilada soup. It's pretty easy for me to get 64oz of liquids a day. I've been at 30-45g of protein from shakes and then add onto that whatever I get from soups. Oh awesome, I'm so ready for puréed but I have a few weeks. Please share any of your great recipes, if you don't mind of course. I have been trying to figure out what I will eat in the purée stage and so far all I have come up with is the ricotta bake and Greek yogurt ????
  12. What vegan blend are you using? I found Spirutein to be quite tasty. But as with all Protein powders, I have to mix it with twice as much liquid as the instructions said or it is too thick and sweet for my liking. Was the Protein powder 100% whey isolate? That has a lot less lactose than other dairy-based Proteins. Are you allowed Greek yogurt yet? It, too, has less lactose than regular yogurt. How about Lactaid milk? That has 8g protein per cup.
  13. I slid into eating too many carbs once I started baking again. Homemade bread is sooo tasty. I had to do a hard reset and went on the 5 day pouch test to detox from the carbs. It worked really well and now when the carbs start taking over, I go do that reset again and it kills the cravings (and I'm tracking the foods that end up triggering the carb craving cycle; some I can eat one time and not feel anything about them and won't eat the again for weeks or even months, some I can eat once and end up craving them for every single meal) http://5daypouchtest.com/ When I'm desperately craving crunchy, I indulge in a serving of pork rinds (Aldi's hot and spicy). One half ounce, 7 grams Protein, zero carbs, 5 grams fat. The sodium is awful, so I make sure to drink extra Water that day, but the crunch and spicy are so satisfying and at least it is carb free! My go to crunch is usually raw red pepper strips with chicken salad or carrots with side of hummus or tzatziki with greek yogurt. Very good!!

    This Week I Failed

@@1Cor2:9, "Shame" is a highly-charged word for most of us. It may have a different connotation for you, but for many of us, shame has been accompanied by feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness. Those are feelings we work hard each day to distance ourselves from. What @@VSGAnn2014 wrote is spot on. Setting ourselves a goal of "I will lose X lbs by Y date" is an invitation to set ourselves up for those feelings, which is why I stay away from them. Life happens. Multiple crashing deadlines, little gnats in the yogurt of life, flat tires, and bad hair days happen. None of us is perfect at the new behaviors we're practicing. If I may, here's what I tell my clients who are working on these kinds of goals: Set behavioral goals. Instead of losing a given number of pounds, that you will keep to your food plan for so many days of the week. Instead of expecting to hit the gym a maximum number of days each week, set a goal that's reasonable for the week that you've got. It will be different on some weeks than others - and that's perfectly OK. Some weeks you'll blast your goals out of the Water. Yay, you! Some weeks it will be a struggle to meet the minimum you've set for yourself. Yay, you! Each one is a success that you can stick in your pocket of successes, big ones and little ones. Over time that pocket of successes becomes a set of healthy habits. Feeling bad is one thing, feeling you are bad is quite another. Congratulations on your successes!

    Upper left Abdominal Pain

Hi All, I have had the lap band 7/8 yrs; regardless of all the vomiting and fighting to get yogurt or Water down I have endured this contraption like a sport. However, within the last two months I have developed some gnarly upper left quadrant abdominal pain it appears to get more gnarly when I eat heavy foods such as anything solid. I had my band emptied about a year ago because I was tired of starving during the weeks I would visit my folks (they live at a higher altitude). I was doing fine as far as maintaining until the last 4 months when I suddenly started gaining weight and experiencing restriction and vomiting even with it empty. I had an apt with my GP to pull blood and test for an infection (waiting on those results) and I have an apt with my LB doc on Tuesday. The thing is; I do not trust him. He has never listened to me and my constant issues of restriction (he never understood why I had an issue with yogurt) and on top of that a friend of mine (who was banded by him about a yr prior to my date) recently had hers removed because it almost killed her; she was in the hospital for 14 days because it eroded inside of her. Needless to say it is a worry; I would like to know if anyone else has experienced pain in this area; if so what was it caused by and what was the end result. Also, I know it is not gas, it is also not my gallbladder as that was confirmed dead and removed 3 yrs ago (to this day I wonder if I would have had an issue with it if I had not had this thing put in) so I am at a loss and just sincerely hoping I can have this stupid thing removed and paid for by insurance. If I knew then what I have known the last number of years, I would have NEVER had this thing put in. *Sigh* Looking forward to hearing your replies, I just hope im not alone in this pain, it hurts so bad and I am just so worn out by it. ~Loup
  16. @@Lisa_85 You absolutely CAN NOT stretch your sleeve with liquids, so drink away. As for the constipation, metamucil, Benefiber, and miralax did nothing for me. I was still taking milk of magnesia every 3 days to produce a small amount of rock hard, painful stool. And this was with drinking 64-100oz of Water every day. My saving grace was adding insoluble Fiber. Benefiber, Metamucil and all those fiber gummies and other fiber supplements are soluble fiber and can actually make constipation worse. Once I Started adding insoluble fiber (sprouted seeds, ground flax seed, apple pectin fiber and Kashi go lean cereal) to my daily diet, I have had soft formed stool and I go almost every day, occasionally every other day. I add these things to my Protein smoothies and/or my Greek yogurt. If I Dont get in my insoluble fiber my stool hardens up within a day or two and I'm back to taking milk of magnesia to get it out.

    need help

Not all pre op diets are liquids only. Mine was 2 Protein shakes, 1 serving if Greek yogurt/cottage cheese, 3-4 cups of vegetables, and 3-4 ounces of lean protein. If your dr wants liquids only that's what you should do. But know that it's not a universal recommendation and if your dinner is small and healthy you likely have done no harm. 18. The first few weeks I lived on Premier Protein, ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates, ProtiDiet tomato basil and creamy chicken Soups, Syntrax nectar (fuzzy navel is my favorite), GNC Lean 25 orange cream, V8, sugar free Popsicles, and sugar free Jello. I added Danon Light & Fit Greek yogurt, cottage cheese. Refried Beans, no sugar added diced peaches, and no sugar added applesauce for the transition from full liquids to soft foods. Just keep in mind that you won't be able to consume a large volume. Getting in all of your protein and fluids will be your priority.

    Protein & Water Concerns

I used to think "how am I ever going to get all this in". Here's my eating routine: 8oz coffee on my ride into work. Protein shake and turkey sausage patty when I get to work (or sugar free oatmeal, eggs, etc) at 9 am. 10 am I start Water in take. I drink 16 oz of water. Sometime between 11 and 12 I have a snack. usually a piece of turkey deli meat and a piece of cheese or greek yogurt, etc. Then more water. Around 2 or 3 I have my lunch. Then more water. Then at 4-ish I have a snack before I go work out at 5. During work out I drink water. When I get home I drink water. Then around 8 we eat dinner. So, yeah, it pretty much revolves around food and water.

4 days post op...well, HELLO hunger!

I just had my surgery yesterday, and I was a little hungry. I ate some Jello and that filled me up. I get to eat cream Soups and yogurt tomorrow. Looking forward to the next phase of my life! Did you lose 28 pounds in a month? That is incredible!

    2/9 Surgery Date Team

I'm going to give the Protein powder in the broth thing another try tomorrow - I'm way turned off by trying to drink it earlier when I messed it up! haha. I'm in my kitchen today prepping for full liquids that I get to start this weekend and I thought I would offer to teach anyone who might think it helpful how my make your own plain greek yogurt. I know those containers at the store get pretty pricey week after week. I've been making my own for about 3 years now and its crazy easy - usually only costs me the price of 1 gallon of milk so around here its about $2.59 a gallon. Making it the first time you'd spend another $1 for a starter plain greek yogurt. Anyway, a batch lasts me nearly 6 weeks and I share it with my wife and 4 year old. So if anyone is interested I can post the "how to" later this weekend. Cheers I hope you are all getting your fluids in!!! 38oz so far for me ~K

    Diarrhea and constipation

I'm almost 4 months out and I have this issue off and on and I'm still trying to manage it. What usually happens is that I will be constipated for several days, then I'll eat something with high Fiber and will have diarrhea for an entire day. Then I won't go for several days and it starts all over again. I eat yogurt every day and get in at least 64 oz. of Water daily. I do try to incorporate natural applesauce or drink 50/50 diluted apple juice to help things stay regular. Most weeks are okay, but I go through the constipation/diarrhea thing about 2-3 times per month. I am seeing my surgeon and nutritionist next Thursday and will be bringing this up. But like @@Daisee68 mentioned, a high Protein diet (coupled with taking high doses of iron) can constipate you.

    Wondering if I'll be successful

Hi I too had surgery 14th January in the UK. I've lost 23lbs as of today (in one month) so I'm happy with that. I have been sticking to mainly protien, mushy vegetables ensuring I chew well and I've been fine. I also have low sugar Cereal like bran flakes or weetabix with 1% milk or fat free yoghurt/Greek yogurt and puréed fruit. I also eat banana now well chewed or course. I notice if I focus on drinking more I lose more. It's difficult sometimes but trying. Exercise I walk at the on my treadmill maybe two-four times a week. Only started this 2 weeks ago. Walking now uphill and a bit for faster for about 30 mins. I would love to start Zumba sometime soon, just wanted to be a little lighter before I go as I am a little shy. You all seem to be doing really well so well done!

    Wondering if I'll be successful

Hey there! Congrats on the weight loss so far! I had my surgery the day before you, so I can tell you a little of what I've been eating or drinking if that helps. Though I am British so some of the suggestions and instructions given to me will probably differ to what you've been told I'm on a blended diet for weeks 2-5/6, which means the consistency of baby food! I make myself blended meals in my nutribullet for savoury food and there's always enough for four or more meals - mostly fresh salmon flakes or chicken chunks or ham chunks or tuna fish mixed with things like vegetable ratatouille or mashed carrot and swede (both of these are cooked first and then blended with the ready to eat meat, or occasionally a little homemade mashed potato with skimmed milk and some gravy (thin made from good stock just to blend it better). I eat fromage frais yogurts, low fat mousses, these high protein low cal (100kcal 125g) vanilla puddings that have 15g of protein, ready brek, and greek yogurt with blended fruit (strawberries, raspberries, peaches, pears). I drink a cup of coffee first thing in the morning (no sugar, skimmed milk) and throughout the day I mostly have water with a little light fruit juice mixed in (I prefer red grape juice as it tastes like Ribena when mixed with water). It's also easier to put that in a 500ml bottle so I know how much water I've drunk. I also have high protein milk, milkshakes, and mocha mix to add to my protein at the end of the day if I feel like I haven't had very much. I would most definitely stay away from cheeto puffs and ice cream, and maybe blend the broccoli when soft if you're going to eat that. But there are plenty of veg that are mashable, so it might be worth just taking the time to wander around the supermarket and see what you could make In terms of exercise - have you thought about swimming? I hate walking (I know thats pretty weird, but when I'm doing it for the sake of walking and not to say shop or get somewhere I hate it) so I've started going to the local pool every other day to do lengths for 30 minutes and it's a great, relaxing workout! (plus, i burn about 326 calories each time). Let me know if there's anything else you're a little unsure on at this stage - and is it okay to add you as a friend? I think you're literally the only person I've found that's really close to my circumstances - same age and nearly the same surgery date and weight!

    Calling all February 1st Sleevers!

I am on full liquids now which includes sugar free pudding, blended yogurt and low fat creamed Soups strained. So I skip the food at breakfast now and only have shake. Ah! Ok!!! Makes sense! Those aren't even options in my "full liquids"! I would love some Greek yogurt!
