Surgery seems like a long way away!
SpartanMaker replied to tammyratcliff61@gmail.com's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I hear you. I sometimes play word games with myself to make it seem closer. For example, instead of saying it's 6 weeks away, I say it's "next month". It's silly, but that feels a lot closer to me! -
I am also three months out. One morning this week I woke up and my lips were stuck to my teeth from a dry mouth. I have been told to increase my liquids. Seems to have improved the last couple of days.

Mine was 800 calories a day max for 2 weeks. There are so many different approaches in different centres but they're all aimed at shrinking the liver to make the surgery technically easier. Good luck with yours!

No right now I’m only taking multi , calcium chews and b12. I have yet to try biotene spray going to try that! Thank you so much! Does it last long for you ? I feel like I’m already going on week 3 of my mouth feeling this way

you're lucky. My pre-op diet was two weeks of no-cal (or ultra-low-cal) liquids, SF popsicles, SF Jello, and 4-5 protein shakes a day. It was dreadful.

One Week Until Surgery
Pastor Yoda replied to heartofmercury's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
D-day is finally here. Going for my gastric sleeve tomorrow (8/4). It's been a bit of a journey to get here, but it flew by at the same time. Was a bit nervous in the weeks leading up to this, but not so much today. Just looking forward to getting this taken care of to get ready to start the next chapter of this adventure. Good luck to everyone who is going through this procedure soon! -
Just got done with the nutrition consult. Another tick box down! I got a lot of information. Glad that I am already working on food issues!! my pre-op diet will be 3 weeks of carb control (50 carb limit) or meal replacement protein shakes for breakfast, lunch, snack and protein and vegetables for dinner. I believe I will do the carb control. how does this compare t other pre-op diets?

Fitness level before surgery
Sunshine Princess replied to Gucci73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was walking around 30 minutes consecutively before surgery but it was a struggle. After surgery my energy levels were off the charts and I walked more to burn off that energy. I'm walking 8k-10k steps a day and once a week, I do a five mile walk. Surgery completely changed me on exercise and I workout 5-6 days a week. -
Im posting this here in case it helps someone else. These are the workout video creators I follow on YouTube. I am three months(ish) out from gastric sleeve surgery so I like to switch it up. Leslie Sansone-Walk Away the Pounds. She is the OG of walking videos. Her walks range from ten minutes to 45 minutes. The majority require no equipment and the ones that do have it as optional. I started with her immediately after surgery. Now to challenge myself, I do them in my pool for more resistance. The downside is she is EXTREMELY OVER THE TOP PEPPY so sometimes I've muted her and have followed along to my own music. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVl6ZdslZz2Zj-34bMJFPbg Burpee Girl-I just found her and I do at least two of her workouts a week. She can be modified for all levels. She has videos that are walking to Pilates to dumbbell work. Her music she uses is extremely upbeat and engaging. She also has active break segments in her videos so you get a chance to cool down in between rounds. She doesnt talk or explain the moves but there is a ten second preview of each exercise before you do it. Highly recommended if you're wanting to challenge yourself a bit more. I put her at an intermediate level. When I outgrew Leslie Sansone, I found Burpee Girl and love her content. https://www.youtube.com/c/BurpeeGirlLiss Billy Blanks-Tae Bo. AS a 90's girl, I remember doing this in gym class and sweating to death. He has his own YouTube channel with really good workouts. A lot of focus on kicking and punching, great for when I need to expend a lot of negative energy. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMGIp3jifsoufZv_y8_c1Qg Yoga with Kassandra- She is so soothing. I love her videos and do them on my off days to stretch. She's very calm and it makes you feel like you're in a yoga class. If you cant do a move, she recommends ways to do it so you can modify your practice. I am not a yoga person but the stretches help and she doesnt make it new agey.https://www.youtube.com/c/yogawithkassandra

Yes, this is quite true. I stopped two weeks before surgery and ended up having my oxygen levels drop during the surgery. From what I heard it probably wouldn't have happened if I stopped vaping sooner rather than later.

Fitness level before surgery
Edge13 replied to Gucci73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely. It's still worth it, imo. I've seen seen 3 unique cases all go through this process, from unbelievably healthy aside from weight, to scooter bound. By the time the one year check in came around, all were living a better life. Write your concerns down. Ask your doctor. I asked sooo many questions. Ask to sit in on a post op recheck for another group, if they'll allow it. I suggest the 6 month one. Listen to their experience. It's the most honest info you'll get. Good luck. -
This. I honestly didn’t mean to quit, ( before testing and all that jazz), but my husband accidentally bought zero nicotine vape juice and we didn’t even know for several weeks ( I will add here that during those weeks I did have strange cravings for cigarettes- but didn’t give in). Just had nicotine and cotitine (?) testing and it was zero! I still vape from time to time, but no nicotine is awesome!

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
ForMyOhana replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Crossing my legs when sitting in a chair. Putting on socks is easy, sitting or standing. Bought a new pair of pants 3 months ago that I can barely wear anymore because now they're too big too. Almost never sweaty. No huffing and puffing when walking or hiking. Bought a kayak and don't feel too big for it. No longer worried that camping chairs will buckle under me. Aches and pains in my hips and legs are nearly gone. All in all, all is good! -
It really should resolve shortly. I think for most people it’s more like a few weeks or a month. Of course I have seen some it lasted a little longer.

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Possum220 replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is not weird but is something that made my doctor really happy. I saw him this week and he took me off 3 medications because I no longer need them. Yay! It is also so much easier to have a shower now without feeling puffed afterwards. -
So I have a few friends that did the sleeve (I'm 3 weeks out) and I've been telling them my left side hurts alot especially when getting up/moving. They both had the same pain apparently the largest incision where the stomach is pulled from.....1 friend 2 years later still has some pain the other 5 years out and is fine now. So my question is how long did it take ypu to be pain free if you had this same issue? TiA Sent from my SM-G990E using BariatricPal mobile app

Milk and Yogurt pre op diet
LookingForward22 replied to fed-up's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 4 different “menus” to choose from pre-op, that is one that’s offered. I have a milk intolerance - I’m ok with a little, but to much upsets my stomach/digestive process… so I’m doing one of the other options they offer (3 fairlife shakes a day, 72 oz of no sugar added juice + 64 or more ounces of water or approved liquids). We can either pick one of the 4 “menu” options each day (if you want to change it up) or stick with one option for 7 days. Then on the 8th day switch over to all clear liquids. The nutritionist did say if we find ourselves struggling, since there’s no “food” outside of the yogurt (if you pick the milk and yogurt option) to call and they will modify the plan so we can safely fulfill the pre-surgical requirements and stay on track for surgery. Knowing there is a safety net if I need it makes me feel a little better, but I’m thinking I can make it through 8 days. -
Hi all, Week 7 and still making progress albeit slow. I have no issues with any food which is certainly a pro and con. Pro- I can have basically anything. Major Con- I can have basically anything. If you stick with your diet, and eat protein first, you will fill up fast. My biggest struggle is my water intake. My goal is 128 oz but even hitting 60 - 80 has been difficult these last few weeks. Overall still extremely thrilled about the results and procedure. If anyone was on the fence about ESG, I recommend you do your research. Of course, it’s still a relatively new procedure but it has a lot of positives. 1) very quick recovery time, 2) extremely quick procedure, 3) minimal nausea and pain. As for cost, well that’s may be a problem for several people. It’s not covered under insurance but it’s somewhat reasonable priced compared to some procedures. I believe my cost was $9900 plus travel. Pre Surgery Weight = 336 Surgery weight = 330 Current Weight = 301 Goal Weight = 275-280 Yes, those numbers look high but I’m a pretty big guy. I’m slightly over 6’6”. Good luck everyone

One Week Until Surgery

Congratulations! I’m coming up on 6 months post op and I remember my preop waiting room anticipation like it was yesterday. I waited for 3 hours because the surgery before mine got complicated. So excited for you! -
Try lowering the amount of nicotine you are vaping in. So if you are at 6mg go down to 3 mg and then move on to 0 mg. That's what helped me.

Looking for friends, just starting my journey!
ReadyToEvolve replied to mommaMel302's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! New here too. Scheduled to have my first visit with surgeon next week. Nervous but excited to get this show on the road. 40 with 3 kids (9,4,2). I’m out on the west coast. I have to do 3 months supervised nutrition so I have my fingers crossed I can get through it all and approved for a December surgery so it works for me and hubby to take leave from work. -
Yes, you are over thinking this. During this phase, the first month or so, there is virtually zero correlation between your loss rate and what you are doing, as there is a lot going on with your body changing states trying to adapt to this big caloric deficit that you have thrown at it. Do a search here for the three (or third) week stall and you will see lots of anxiety over what is my weight loss doing and what have I done? Your loss will slow, often stall and maybe climb a bit before going down again. It often happens right around the time that our diets are moving from one stage to the next, so "that mush be it!" but it isn't - even those of us who never had all those stages go through something like this. Short answer is that when you go into a serious caloric deficit like this, your body first starts drawing on you glycogen reserves, short term carb reserves stored in you liver and muscles, which give you your quick response bursts of energy. There is a lot of water weight associated with glycogen. Once that is largely consumed, your body usually pauses to see if you are really serious about this caloric deficit thing. Then it will start to draw on your fat stores, which is what we are here to do in the first place. Fat also burns more slowly than glycogen/carbs (its that 9 cal/gm vs 4 cal/gm thing,) and it has to rebuild some of your glycogen reserves again (water weight on) so weight can be real flaky here for a while. If you really feel that you aren't eating enough, then a bit more wouldn't hurt and may be helpful, though that won't be what gets your loss moving again. I was up around 1100 calories fairly quickly, within the first couple of weeks, but I was also progressing on food types more quickly than your program suggests, and we had no specific caloric guidance. Others on these forums at that time were insisting that anything more than 6-800 calories would be death to your weight loss. I did fine, at least with my decent guy metabolism, and they did fine as well. I wouldn't rush things on too much, as it is much easier to add more later if you feel the need to than to cut back once you get used to eating a certain amount. I didn't increase my average calories from there until I was within about 10 lb of goal weight (at about six months) and needed to slow things down.

I’m down 25 and I had mine July 7th. Too weak to walk, no energy. I messed up just now. I took 3 bites of pizza. 😳 I couldn’t take it anymore. I pray I don’t get sick 🙏🏼
