    March 27th surgery date

Hey everyone - my stats are similar to a few of you. Starting weight 237, 5’2”, gastric bypass on the 26th. I’ve been down 19 pounds (yesterday) but I’m back up to 220 (today). No cheating but I’m always hungry - even after the puréed diet began yesterday. Are we supposed to be satisfied having only 3/4c of food a day? Or, not hungry at least? My stomach is grumbling. I sent a message to my dietician about it and I haven’t heard back yet.
  2. My surgery is on the 19 of this month but had to get two of my tooth taken out today. One of my wisdom teeth grew crooked and infected so was the one next to it. So had to pull both. I was prescribe ibuprofen for the pain. My dentist said it was okay to take but haven't taken them as yet tho. I'm so depressed right now from removing my teeth. I cried days the last time & today I cried a hour straight. This is not my first time removing teeth. I feel so lost. So ugly. I hate myself l. Im so sad.Only good thing it's the ones in the back. March Bypass Buddies

What I find so interesting in being on this board is how different everyone's post op diet is - like I had my surgery on 3/18. I was given clear liquids that first day. I went home from the hospital on 3/19 after I had eaten some blended food (yogurt). I was on the blended texture diet for 2 weeks and this last Monday, switched to soft food. I didn't have a liquid diet phase - went to pureed right away. It seems the more I read, the more varieties I find. My program is pureed for 2 weeks with RNY and 4 weeks with sleeve and then to soft food for 2 months and then to regular textures. It just seems strange that it isn't more consistent.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

My next goal is -5.8 pounds. That will get me into a weight range that I haven’t seen in many many years. I can do this! I may go to Vegas on 4/23. Got hired for a new job yesterday and we are working out the details. I think I can lost 7-10 pounds by then, right?!? In 20 days...

On the small incision I picked it off after 10 days and they were completely sealed and healed by then. Now I have little dots on my belly!

    April 2019 Surgeries!

And thoughts to all those having surgery today. I am flying out to San Diego this afternoon for surgery tomorrow. On the plus side, this morning my weight sans clothing was 329.6. That is the first time it has been below 330 in at least two years, maybe longer. Regarding a clear liquid diet today, after 10 days of a full liquid diet, I am pretty much up for anything. Now if I can only get my 15-year-old to get her behind in motion.
  7. Well, I gained 10 pounda of water weight in the hospital, so most of this week was shedding that. From surgery day to today, 7 days, I have lost 4 pounds. I actually expect that to go up a little next week. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I’ve had several endoscopies since my sleeve August 2017. Maybe 3? I’m actually lucky my esophagus has no cellular changes yet. Key word, YET. Also had barium swallow, sham feeding test, esophageal manometry, bravo pH study that showed severe reflux, a contrast abdominal and pelvic CT, and a gastric emptying test that showed gastroparesis. My surgeon was still a doodie head so I switched hospitals. He says 90% cure and if I’m in that 10% I might punch a wall. Year and a half on Prilosec, and 4 months high dose steroids made me lose a dental implant I had already paid $4,000 for and now reconstructive surgery is probably $10-15k. YAY REFLUX!

    Introduction

For me, I met with my surgeon on January 8th 2019 and had sleeve surgery March 11. Mine was unusually fast because my insurance did not require any kind of pre surgery weight loss tracking. I think 6 months is very much the norm. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    January 2019 sleevers

Checking in to see how everyone is doing? I am down 38 pounds since 01/24/19 and happy about it. I had a couple of days where I sweets -one was my birthday and the second was while watching a TV drama so I now know to stay away from watching TV dramas with sweet foods around. I get hungry now but the hunger pains are smaller than before and obviously it is easier to ease the hunger. I am consuming 400-600 calories a day. I was exercising quite a bit in the beginning but have slowed down on that end, usually I am pretty tired at the end of the day to do anything. I am getting a bike over the week-end so I can bike to and from work. I am hoping this will get me more active. I know I will need to increase my calories but am struggling to do that mentally. How else is everyone doing?

Try to keep them on. They hold the edges of the wound together. The less tension, the less scarring. My started peeling at 10 days and were gone by 20 days.

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I'm a little late to the party, but I want to join in too... Current weight: 251 Weight loss goal for April: 10 Surgery: RNY upcoming on May 16, 2019 Personal Goal: To keep true to my pre-op diet. #1 - I'm proud of the fact that I have stuck it out for almost two years in my program to get to this point. #2 - I'm not really into journaling. I've done it at different times for different purposes, usually in times of emotional upheaval. I've been doing really well with my food tracker for the last few months though. Haven't missed a day since the New Year.

I was sleeved on Wednesday 2/20 and felt great by Monday, I have a desk job and returned back to work on Tuesday 2/26. I am now 6 weeks out and feel amazing, this is definitely the best thing that I have ever done for myself, I did have the dreaded 3 week stall that last 10 days, but I am now loosing again and eating much more 'normal' foods. Hoping that you continue feeling great!!

    Dumping syndrome with VSG?

I'm a sleever. I *think* I had dumping once (and once only!) after drinking some lemon soju back over Christmas. It came about 5-10 minutes after drinking it (wave of nausea, need to barf, then was in the washroom number-two-ing for about 30 minutes). Yuck. Didn't do that again.

    Back again family

well I did begin to have my gastric sleeve surgery on 11/05/2018. On the table .knocked out with anesthesia .Awaken by nurses telling me. They were not able to do the surgery. they informed me that they could not introduce the laroscopy where it needed to be to begin the surgery. The doctors said they tried for 45 minute. even called in ENT to try. Neck just wouldn't bend. (my neck is fused, due to spinal surgery due to polio} I was so extremely depressed. So I had to begin all over again. with a Doctor I was referred to. Dr. Katkhouda @ Keck USC. next week I complete my nutrition classes AGAIN. I'm scheduled again May 7th 2019. Please let it work this time.
  16. I was having horrible reflux and had all the fluid removed from my band. Today I went for a barium swallow, still waiting on the results. Dr. didn't see anything at the time, but will review the images. The past couple weeks I have had shoulder pain when I eat or drink. It isn't right away, but within 10 minutes of eating/drinking. Has anyone experienced this? What was the outcome? Thank you for your time 😁

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Day 2: I'm not much of a journal type. But I used to write daily bullets on a calendar when my son was young, but I don't even do that anymore. He's 19 and my daughter is 8. So yeh, I just suck.... :(

    Restriction

I too have no hunger. What a feeling!!! Surgery was 3/11 and other than day one in the hospital I haven’t had any issues with any of the soft foods I’ve tried so far. However, I did have one issue when on puréed...my friend made an entire meal for us to help out. It was pork chops. I put 1.5 ounces in the processor with broth to make it smooth. Must not have been soft enough because half way through I got a tightness in the center of my chest that radiated across both breasts. I went for a walk and it passed in about 10-15 minutes. That episode was it. So you are not alone...everyone is experiencing this a little different. Keep up the good work!!

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

My April 2nd offering is a combine of # 1 and 10. For #1,i have a NSV, well there is a little scale in there also. I dropped a size in less than a month, Now a 20'22( 2 X )from my faithful old 26W, I'm a little perturbed I had bought a pair of pull- up denim pants, and now the pull-up is fall- down .Only wore them once, been hanging in closet, and now, short of suspenders, I can't wear them! And #10 I am proud of my 30 pound weight loss in just one, month. I have felt very hateful toward my body, I had tried. all those diets, and it constantlyfought and failed me. Thank you body for helping me now to,lose, it's got to be 50% or more working with surgery, but I think you do ❤me after all And I'm going to stop putting you down, you're a good body after all. Might rub you with some sweet smelling lotion, make you feel all soft and smooth. Lets be best friends from now on!
  20. I'm in a regretting mood lately. I only lost 10 pounds the first month after surgery, and it dropped off precipitously after that. I don't eat junk food. I'm doing what the surgeon tells me and the weight just. does. not. want. to. come. off. It's frustrating and there are days when I think, "I paid $12000 for this?!" But I can't overeat any more. I can't binge without pain. That's a huge win for me so in the long run I know the surgery will be worth it... if I can just stop comparing myself to everyone else.

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Okay I am in...I will try to do better this month then last month. Challenge starting weight 269 RNY / post op - losing WL Goal this month - Lose 10 lbs (or get in the 250s)....loss has been somewhat slower 2-3lbs a week but I realized based on my daily average I can hit my goal weight in a year if I stay vigilant. Other Goal this month is to exercise 5 times a week minimum. I was doing good last month and then just stopped for no reason 😐
  22. there's a lot of sodium in those fluid bags, and you're getting a *ton* of fluids while in the hospital. I didn't weigh myself right away after my RNY or my first plastic surgery because I knew my weight would be way up, and it was just water. I had my second round of plastic surgery this past Friday. I *did* weigh myself this morning, and I'm 4 lbs up from the morning of my (plastic) surgery, and i've been eating much less than usual the last few days. Since I've done a lot of urinating the last couple of days (getting rid of all those hospital fluids), I'm sure I was up 10+ lbs when I was released from the hospital. I'd give it week and then weigh yourself again. You'll probably be fine.

    Insurance approval

I was denied the first time by BCBS because I lost too much weight. They apparently wanted me to FAIL to lose 10% of my body weight in 6 months. I continued my monthly visits which proved that the weight comes right back and insurance approved me the second time.
  24. After a year of Drs appts and tests and after one denial...I got approved. Now for the money part...yikes lol. I know that my surgeon is requiring $1502(my insurance deductible is $1500 and i've met a good deal of that already)...now i'm waiting to hear from the hospital about what they will need up front. The surgeons part has to be paid before the surgery is scheduled and the hospital's part has to be paid 10 days before surgery. How much did y'all have to pay to the hospital up front? I'm having RNY by the way.
  25. Hi! I hear ya! Had RNY last Wednesday and gained 10 pounds of fluid in the hospital! I have just about gotten down to my surgery weight. I have a severe pain on the left side under my ribcage that really hurts when I breathe. However, I'm doing better than I expected, am hitting 90 ounces of fluids a day, taking vitamins, and trying to walk every day. I'm pretty excited I had it done, too!
