Does anyone actually like their protein drink?
Beni replied to AvaFern's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, hate every single one I have tried. Trust me, I think I have tried every brand on earth, pretty much. The only one I am okay with is GENEPRO unflavored because it tastes more like nothing and because it is concentrated you use a very small amount and when added to anything else you can't tell. -

SCARED!
Thinkingthinner1109 replied to Thinkingthinner1109's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks I just ordered some of the Genepro! -
Remember, unflavored doesn't mean there is no flavor, it means they ADD no flavor to it. To me unflavored protein powder has a creamy, almost coffee-creamer taste, kinda like powdered milk. I don't mind it in the slightest, and it is milky-looking when added to liquid. I prefer it to pre-made shakes. I use TG's, found on Amazon.com. I also use Genepro. Hope this helps!

Hi everyone! Made this in my slow cooker today. Though I am well beyond puree stage I sill eat a lot of Soup and this was delicious. Of course, I also added some GENEPRO Protein powder! Butternut Squash Bisque INGREDIENTS:32 oz cubed butternut squash 2 large shallots, quartered 2 cups chicken broth 1 tbsp chopped garlic 3/4 cup coconut milk pinch nutmeg DIRECTIONS: Place the squash, shallots, garlic and broth in the slow cooker. Cook on low for 8 hours or high 4 hours, until soft and cooked through, a knife should easily be inserted. Stir in coconut milk and nutmeg. Blend in a blender or using an immersion blender. Season to taste with salt and pepper

Does anyone know of a good Protein Shake that doesn't have artifical sweetner?
CheleLynn45 replied to Addawn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't do artificial sweetners either but I have found that I can drink Premiere Protein RTD shakes with no problem, no aftertaste and no headaches. Not sure what kind of sweetener is in them. I would have to go take a look. The back says sucralose?? I am just glad the don't bother me cause it is mostly what I use for lunches. I also use GENEPRO (an unflavored protein powder) in my decaf tea in the mornings. I use Splenda in my tea and again no problems. I can't use any of the Water enhancers or sugar free syrups because I cannot take the aftertaste and the headaches I get. You will get a lot of great answers on here, that's one thing I love about this site!! Good Luck!! -
How are you getting protein in??
Boldilocks replied to Tejee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I put this into a lot of stuff - mix it into yoghurt, cottage cheese, fat-free re-fried beans, curries, sauces, soups. It really helps me pack more protein in as a vegetarian. The scoops are very small. https://www.amazon.com/GENEPRO-Musclegen-Research-Flavorless-Certified/dp/B00K6OSDYA -
I got Genepro from Amazon on Prime Deliery. Today is the first day i used it and i feel oh so good about getting all my protein in before i leave work. Now i can focus the rest of my night on water intake since i still have about 30 ounces to go.. and if i really want something i will have a popcicle.

Have you tried an alternate protein source? Shakes made me nauseous, but Genepro is tasteless in Crystal Light and doesn’t bother me.

How much should I be able to eat
dvons replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I heard that there's some controversy behind GENEPRO. Check out MelanieSlicedThinner on YouTube if you're interested. Sent from my SPH-D710VMUB using the BariatricPal App I'm a huge fan of GenePro. I'll definitely check that out. Thanks. -
I was gonna buy some GENEPRO but I keep seeing bad reviews about it too.. Then the lady at gmc suggest the Isopure powder. The only thing I've managed to do that I can drink so far is mix it with some Water and put a squirt of watermelon flavoring in it. But still, I would like to find a much easier solution. Anyone for August 2020
kellym1220 replied to MotivatedMomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery (sleeve) was done on July 30th and I am in the midst of two week post op liquid diet. I feel great, just a little bit of itching and pain at the two largest incisions...and of course, I would love to eat something...anything!! Last night my daughter and I ordered soups from Panera (Summer Corn Chowder) and I strained mine and gave her all the "stuff" and just ate the broth/cream and OH. MY. GOSH. I was in heaven!!!! I didn't add protein powder to it because I had two Premier protein shakes already. Things I recommend: 1) Genepro Powder - I tried several protein powders but this was the smallest scoop and easiest to blend. I usually mix it in a little milk, broth or water and add it to any hot soups/broths. I use it to make Jello shooters that have protein in them, protein pudding and add to broths to make them higher in protein. 2) Use Premier Protein (especially caramel) in decaf coffee 3) Don't buy the nasty powdered soups...or if you do, don't buy too many! I have 4 boxes and they are the WORST! (At least for me). 4) Swanson Sipping Broths (45-50 calories and 9 grams of protein) Easy to heat, easy to drink. I cannot wait to get to the puree stage...and then real food!! And I am down 10.5 pounds from surgery day so a little over a pound a day. GOOD LUCK!! This is going to be a game changer! -
I couldn't do artificial sweeteners or plain water, so I drank decaf herbal teas, Vitamin water, lifewater, pedialyte, dilute 100% fruit juice, dilute Powerade, chicken broth, beef broth, Swansons tortilla soup base, and strained wonton and hot and sour soups. Added Un jury unflavored powder to the soups and it wasn't too bad. Tried isopure but it made me gag. I've heard genepro mixes well with everything and has no taste, but I've never tried it.

I was drinking them before surgery and some people say that their taste buds change! My have! I'm going to get the GENEPRO Protein, so I can get my protein in . Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

I might be older than you think.. I'll be 57 on June 12th. As to what I am doing, drink, drink and drink some more. Get those fluids in and I am still on the low side myself at about 48 ounces of water/fluid a day, as they are most important even more so than protein at this point. I only drink plain water and decaf tea. I eat, Cream of Wheat, tuna, greek yogurt, jello, cream of chicken soup, and chicken or beef broth and for a treat frozen pudding pops or outshine popcicles. I have one scoop of Genepro added to either my cream of wheat or cream of chicken soup. I am limited on my protein to 43 grams a day as I have Chronic Kidney Disease. I have not done much in exercise as its only been one week other than the walking. I do plan on incorporating more exercises even those that I can do with minimal jumping around like legs lifts and arm circles. Good Luck Every One.

Yes! You are not alone! I had a swallow study done to make sure it was not a stricture. It turns out that my pouch was just overly sensitive. The surgeon said this happens sometimes, and can take two months for some people to get over the hump. I was throwing up eight times a day at one point, while on anti-nausea meds 24/7, then it nearly stopped around week seven. I did not get my fluids, protein, or all of the supplements in until two months out. Everything turned out OK, though. I did not have to be readmitted. The first thing that felt good to me was chicken broth from Chick-fil-A. Then, chicken or tilapia. Eventually, I was able to tolerate water and Crystal light again. I found Genepro protein powder which is the only protein supplement that I can tolerate. When I use it in certain proportions, I cannot taste or smell it. Pills were also a trigger for me, so I tried liquid or chewable supplements as much as possible. I also drank apple juice or cranberry juice in the first few weeks since it did not make me sick. I am sure you are already sipping slowly. Talk with your surgeons office to make sure there is nothing wrong, but hopefully you will get past this soon. It is so difficult, good luck. 😀

Help! I think I'm dying
busybeebug replied to ginaandy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It can take a bit to feel better. Keep going slow and steady. It will get better. I can't say how long for you. Have you tried putting unflavored protien in your water?(if you are alowed) Once I started doing that, I began feeling much better. I use Genepro. Taking the pepcid can help even if you don't feel the acid. Hang in there it will get better
