  1. I love bagging up the fat clothes and getting rid of them FOREVER. It feels great! My latest NSV is weighing less than my husband. For the first time ever! I feel so much sexier being smaller than him finally.

    NSV

I had a great feeling today. I went for a walk with my parents in my neighborhood and I haven't really walked around the neighborhood in a long time. It brought back memories from over a year ago when I couldn't even walk one small flat block. Now I'm walking around multiple blocks and up and down hills. Without getting even a little out of breath. It was a great reminder of where I started and how far I've come.

    NSV....

I went to church and for the 1st time in years I knelt without leaning on the pew behind me. My gut wasn't pushing me back. Yay! I also walked out if my Capri pants! I had to bite the bullet and buy a smaller pair by 2 sizes
  6. You are sabotaging yourself by reverting back to liquids and lowering your calories. You're putting your body into starvation mode and teaching it how to survive on less and less calories. This is unhealthy and certainly not conducive to weightloss and especially long term maintenance. Not sure what kind of expectations you had, but 9 pounds in one month is a good rate of loss. Plus you are right about where most people experience the infamous "three week stall". Do a search and you will find hundreds of posts on it. Totally normal and part of the process, as is gaining a few pounds along the way. You say you drink water till you're nauseous. How much are you drinking? It should be 1/2 your body weight in ounces. If you are having a hard time with water (I couldn't drink plain water for over 6 months), you can try herbal tea, sports drinks, water flavor drops, infused water, milk, or any other non carbonated, low cal beverage. How about protein? Every program is different, but 80+ g/day works for me. just stick with the program and stay off the scale for a month if you need to. Gauge your progress with NSVs and how your clothes fit.

    NSV!

NSV - Pre-surgery I would put on an outfit and look in the mirror and first question was "does this make me look fat". Now, 7 months later I can just about put on anything and not look fat. All this hard work has been worth every second,
  8. Okay I have been doing an ab challenge for just a couple of weeks that my son sent me in an email... along with my routine exercise as well as cardio. I just wanted to post a progress pic to show that I am getting a lil cut up in the abdomen area. This is a total NSV for me. I don't know why Bariatric patients weight loss is different than when a person who has not had surgery loses weight. I am 174 lbs and I know some people that say they are 160 or high 150's and I look as small if not smaller. Can't wait to see what I look like when I hit goal weight of 150 lbs. I Just wanted to share my pics with my BP FAM. Please excuse all the mail on my dresser in the second pic. I keep my mail for centuries, lol.
  9. My weight never was fast, almost 6 months out. I lost a 3-4 lbs a week. On another note I didn't plateau like a lot of people either. Hit my first plateau for 2 weeks this month. Don't stress it. The scale will move if you follow dr plan and enjoy the nsv in the meantime. When my scale stops it seems I loose pant sizes. I was 262preop liquid 251 surgery day 199 today my high ever was 334 a few years ago and 292 last January when I started so I'll take it.

    NSV shout outs

It was my turn at work to be the weekly meeting's "door greeter" today. I work with about 100 people and many hadn't seen me in months. I had no less than 5 people say "You've lost a lot of weight have'nt you?" and "You look slim and trim!" Happy NSV for me!
  11. Had my VSG on 3/2/17; no problems thus far-unless you count clothes not fitting, LOL! Anyway, preparing to go on a 7day cruise the last week of April 2017; tried on some shorts that I've always taken on trips....Don't know why, but was shocked they were too big! Off to Target I went to get 3 pair of shorts. Normally wear a 14/16 women's/plus, so I tried a 12 women's/plus----guess what, THEY WERE TOO BIG!!!! I had to go into the misses/juniors; got a light denim in a misses 10, a dark denim in a misses 10, and a white pair in a misses 12 (different material)!!!!! WHAT A GREAT NSV TO START THE WEEK WITH!!!!!! Highest wt: 240lbs 1st dr appt wt: 220lbs Day of surgery wt: 193.4lbs Current wt: 184.4lbs Goal wt: between 150-165lbs Have a great week everyone!!!!
  12. This last Friday, March 17,2017, marked two years since my Gastric Bypass Surgery. I'm posting this mostly for myself but also for those that are researching and wondering what it might be like further out than the first few weeks or months. My whole, long winded experience: The first 10 weeks after my surgery I followed the post-op diet to a T. My surgeon had given me the green flag for a regular diet at my one month follow-up appointment and I stayed on course. Until 5 weeks later when my niece came to visit. I thought choosing to indulge a little was an okay and well-thought out decision. I wanted to be "normal", or rather, like a skinny person, meaning occasionally choosing a few bites of less than healthy foods or Desserts When post-op members say it's a slippery slope they are not B.S-ing you. I was so impressed with my new found restraint, just one fry or 2-3 small bites of dessert and I. Was. Satisfied! Now I know, I was just ignorant. My pouch was probably still swollen. What started out as a few bites a few days in a row turned into a handful of bites once a week and only if I went specifically, and out of my way, to get it. I quickly learned how many grams of sugar I could have before I'd dump and I became an expert at playing "Sugar Limbo", eating just under the amount that would make the stick (my blood sugar) come crashing down. Then I started bringing Atkins candies into my house, it just kept sliding from there. But of course I continued to be rewarded with steady loss because well duh, that's what the honeymoon period is all about. The first 11 months I weighed in once or twice monthly and saw a steady loss through the first 8 months. From mid November to February I bounced between 211.6 and 216.9 and I was consuming 50 - 125 grams of processed sugar a day. Just one month shy of my one year anniversary I moved from a state that I loved, Colorado, back to Wisconsin to be near my daughter and her growing family. I dislike Wisconsin but I love my daughter, it was not an easy decision. I was more content and regularly active while I lived in Colorado but my I missed my daughter and she missed me. I went from working with my personal trainer twice a week, walking my dog 0.5-3 miles/day (depending on weather) and hiking 4-12 miles in the mountains most weeks to sitting on my bum looking at grey, dismal skies and snow for weeks while I waited for my new grand baby to arrive. The depression hit me like a brick wall. I turned to poor food choices more frequently and it was made easier by living with someone having pregnancy cravings, who am I not to indulge or maybe even encourage those? And a son-in-law that was more than happy to participate and contribute to my coping method. For months nothing went any of the millions of ways I had prepared myself for. I anticipated returning to work for the same hospital system that I had been employed by for 15 years before I traveled but there was not a position I was interested in. I wanted to take my nursing career in a different path so I applied for 15-20 office and public health positions and did not receive any calls. I could write a short story alone just about how that made me feel. I anticipated being back to work within 6 weeks of my move and it was 8 before I even got my first interview. It went well and the feedback was so positive that I was certain I had it on lockdown. I was told I'd know in a week, two at the most. Several weeks and calls later and even more applications sent I was told I didn't get it but they wanted me to shadow for another position I had applied for. Two weeks later I was offered a position I didn't apply for and wasn't even sure I was interested in. My savings was depleted and so was my resolve so I accepted. Meanwhile my 12 year-old dog, and best friend and traveling buddy for the previous four years, became ill. I thought it was the stress of going from just the two of us in a 1200 sq. foot apartment to us with two more adults, a newborn and two cats. I continued to turn to my old friend, food, for comfort. My processed sugar consumption was up to a minimum off 100 grams a day, my workouts were scarce and I wasn't journaling any longer. I had gained 15 pounds in 8 weeks. Even with starting to work out twice a week again I only managed to maintain at that new weight. I also aggravated a shoulder/neck injury that I had gotten the previous September when I was rear ended by a 16 year-old when she was reaching for her cell phone that fell on the passenger side floor. Just short walks or holding my grand baby left me in pain for hours. When I started my new job I experienced more stress in the first two months than I did in the 2 years of travel nursing combined. It's proven to be a tough job in a tough environment. I had taken my dog to to the vet and changed his diet several times and spent a small fortune on medications but he continued to lose weight. In August I finally got my own place and had myself convinced that was going to be the cure for what was ailing my pup. But on August 26th I returned from work to find him unable to walk, he tried to greet me at the door like normal but just kept tipping over. When I brought him in to the vet I found out he had lost another two pounds in 3 weeks and in total had lost 40% of his normal weight since becoming ill. I made the tough decision to let him rest in peace. I can not even begin to explain how that has affected me. I miss him so, so much. I continued to have severe shoulder/neck pain from the simplest activities so I pursued a diagnosis. When I went to the doctor appointment and saw the scale I woke up, a bit. I had gained 21.5 pounds in 7 months. I found a safe, affordable trainer to work with but our schedules weren't going to mesh for the rest of the calendar year! I took what I could get. But I continued to fight the premise that diet makes the biggest difference. For reasons too in depth to ever post here I'll just say, I strongly dislike being told what/how to eat by anybody. Apparently including myself. Apparently even though I worked on that issue for 5 years prior to surgery, well my entire adult life really but with true intent for the last 5 years. Btw, it turns out I sustained two tears in my shoulder and that is why more than a year later it still hurts like the dickens. I have bounced between 229 and 233 since September. Admitting that I need to make more consistent and long lasting changes to my diet is the first step in getting back on track. I was told by my team that I could expect to lose 65% by now, I've lost 50% by their calculations but 55% by my more conservative ideal weight of 165. In the past I might have apologized for writing what may appear as excuses to some but not anymore. I write it as a reflection so I can see what's going on. My weight is not where I wanted it to be at this point post-op but even worse than that my life has taken a giant throat punch in the last year and in general I'm not where I expected or even strived to be. But I don't quit anymore and I sure as shooting don't let myself only see the negatives. I have a list as long as my arm of NSV's. The most recent of which is that when I spilled the juice from my fruit cup it didn't land on me but instead went right through the gap of the legs I am now able to cross due to my 79 pound loss. Unfortunately it landed on the chair I was sitting on, creating a triangular wet spot for everyone in the meeting to see when I stood up. Not being where I think I should be does not make me less proud of where I am...

    need to share...

Congratulations! It's great to see the scale move in the right direction and all those other NSV!
  16. Hi all! My highest weight has been 313 at pre op I began at 306 11/25 surgery day: 294 Current weight: 261 Today is 111 days from surgery (week 15) Loss from HW: 52lbs loss from preop: 45lbs loss from surgery: 33lbs I feel great health wise. No hair falls. I am all protein and water. I have had several stalls where I lose inches but not pounds. I feel like I should have lost more. My clothes are all too big. Many NSV's as people are really noticing my face and body getting smaller, but I still would like to have lost a lot more than this!
  17. That is very cool! Had to be a blast :-) Clothes fitting has been a blast for me also. In fact, my nsv victory this week would have to be going to a West Marine store with my hubby. Normally this store bores the heck out of me. I can literally feel the blood rushing out of my head and going into half unconscious mode and almost dueling on myself. It's that painful. However, hubby reminded me that I can hit the ladies clothes department and actually fit into their clothing now. A light went off in my brain and I did in fact find a few items for now and some potential items for our cruise in a few months. Yay!
  18. So I've been a little down (but not too much) since I've been mostly stalled for the past 2 weeks (the weight might go down a pound or two, but then I regain it back). I know things are changing though, because I've definitely lost weight all over - I measure everything (head, neck, upper chest, breast, lower chest, waist, hips, and both right and left of the following: arms, breasts, thighs, calves, and feet (around the arch).) I've lost in every category. However, I don't know why, but I haven't been trying on smaller clothes, although I haven't been this weight in over 3 years! Well, I was packing for a trip tonight, and decided to try on some old or never worn clothes, and yay! I can fit so many clothes now - old favourites, and some I've never worn. I was giggling like a schoolgirl - I wanted to take photos of every outfit! So that's this week's NSV - mostly stalled, but wearing clothes that have been buried at the back of my closet for ages! Oh - and almost all of my shoes now fit (in fact, my regular shoes are too big!). That's 2 for the price of 1! What was your NSV (non-scale victory) this week?
  19. It wasn't all that long, just about mile and a half, and it took me way too long, but I finally did a hiking trail the other day! It's something I used to enjoy when I was a thin kid. It was embarrassing having to stop every 30 seconds on the uphills to catch my breath, but I did it by myself so nobody had to see me. It felt good when I was done, and the view at the top of the mountain was pretty
  20. I am a little over 1 month post op (2/8/17)and I signed up for my 1st Boot camp! It starts April 22 so I will be about 2 1/2 months post op when it starts... 6 weeks, 3 days a week! I am ready, nervous and excited ...
  21. It's been a month and a day since surgery. I lost 23 pounds pre-op, but only 15 pounds post-up. I've been stalled for 2 weeks, although my weight has been fluctuating up and down by the same 1 or 2 pounds. I've cut back on dairy, which has helped with a lot of issues, and I'm trying to get my calories in (my NUT wants a minimum of 800 daily), which I can do, but I feel like I'm either full or eating all day. I would have liked to have lost more by this point (I was hoping for 20 pounds post-op) but I put on a pair of jeans today that I haven't been able to wear in over 2 years, so that's a nice NSV. I've also noticed that my fat seems more loose and jiggly (I was always kind of solid before), and that I've got some weird bulges in my thighs that I never had before. The inches are coming off, I just want that d@mn scale to move!

One of my sons is a phenomenal athlete (track, cross country, swimming, and soccer). Since surgery he's worked with me to find exercise I like and when I travel he sends me reminders to hit the hotel gym. Even though he can run circles around me, for months he's gone with me at 430 AM, three days a week, when I go running/jogging. One of the indicators he was most concerned about was my high resting heart rate (and my BP). For the last few days my resting HR has been really great- a huge change since last July when I had WLS. After this morning's run, he gave me one of his track gold track medals and told me that my heart is getting slower and his is getting bigger because he is so proud of his "little mom."
  23. Check the Carbs in your Protein shake, I use Whey Isolate because its lower in Carbs. Also 1 cup of applesauce has 43 Carbs so you might find a different snack that works better with your Diet Macros. What types of drinks do you have during the day? The Ketogenic Lifestyle is what I have been doing for the last 3 months and by keeping my Carbs at or Below 20 I have been Blessed to have good loses. The final piece is you might be having several NSV Non Scale Victories as your body is making the transition to fat Burning and Muscle building. Good Luck and we look forward to watching you make the transition.
  24. NSV!!! I went for a walk with the (VERY active) dog this morning and we jogged a bit of the time!! I'm so thrilled with this!

    Hey Short Ladies!

Just found some ankle length Rockstar jeans at old Navy on clearance for $15 a few days ago. And the Original jeans were on sale for 40%off. I went with the Rockstar cause they were cheaper. These are my first Jean purchase since way before surgery. (Nsv) my first 12s! I bought 2 and a size 10 to size down into. I haven't needed dress pants yet but i guess I'll cross that bridge when i get to it. Oh and im 5'2 and the jeans are truly ankle length.
