Weight fluctuates for many reasons. Water retention, constipation, hormones etc....especially if you're weighing every day or several times a day you'll see the fluctuations. I suspect you're going into your "Dreaded 3 week stall" a little early. It happens to 98% of us, and the cuplprit is glycogen storage due to starvation mode. It causes weight to stall or even gain a little when it happens. You're not doing anything wrong at all. Just stay the course, make sure your're getting all your Protein and fluids, and if the fluctuations or stalls bother you, try to stay off the scale.

Amount of weight lost in four weeks?
Kindle replied to New nana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I rarely weighed myself that early on, but I dug up some of my old posts and found these stats... 1 week...up 5 pounds 7 weeks....down 17 pounds 10 weeks......still stalled at 17 pounds After that I lost fairly steady and only had a few 2-3 week stalls along the way. But as you can see if you fast forward, my slow start does not reflect my overall success..... Down 78 pounds (surgeons goal) at 6 1/2 months Down 88 pounds (personal goal) at 7 1/2 months Currently down 97 pounds at 9 months Just keep on your plan and remember you are in this for the long haul and the numbers on the scale really aren't that important. As for my scale, I don't even own one. I weigh myself once a week on the dog scale at work so I have something to post on here. I weigh fully clothed, with shoes or boots, sometimes in the morning, sometimes after lunch. The accuracy really doesn't matter to me because I measure my success by how I feel, how my clothes fit and NSVs. Good luck! -
Embrace Your Stall And Enjoy Your Success..inches Will Equal Lbs.
TheSkinnyCow73 replied to BluebonnetMagonlia's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love this!!!!! I had the same 3 week stall happen to me and it was soooo frustrating! Even though we are losing inches, there is something about that dang scale and its numbers that make it all the more real that the weight is coming off! I keep having to remind myself that I didnt gain it overnight and I am not going to lose it overnight! Keep rockin' that sleeve! You look wonderful!!!! -
oh yes .. it's the famous 3 week stall .... if you do a search on this site for that ... you'll find tons of info on it ... pretty much we all go through it ... just the body's way of trying to understand the shock you just put it through ...

Going off of my plan definitely helped me break a 3 week stall. I ate more and more carbs. It's all about mixing things up and keeping your body guessing so it doesn't reach homeostasis and has to constantly readjust. When I was in Weight Watchers I was taught this...there it is called the Wendy Plan.

I have read several other posts about the 3 week stall. I had surgery 4/18/17. Lost 15 lbs my first week, 7 lbs my 2nd week...and one whole pound this week. I'm going back to work in the morning. When should the weight loss start increasing again? PRE SW 306 SW 297 CW 274 Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

So my surgery was January 20th. Everything went really well. I had some issues initially getting in all of my liquids and protein. My NUT wants me to get 60-64 grams of protein a day. I've been hitting that plus close to 64-72 ounces of fluid a day. I'm still on full liquids. I lost 7 pounds at my 6 day post op visit and now NOTHING! I started exercising this week and have made it to the gym 3 times this week in addition to increasing my walking! I'm assuming this is the 3 week stall, but I'm only 2 weeks postop. Did anybody have issues right out of the gate like this? I'm getting super paranoid I'm not going to lose anymore weight!!!!

It’s only been 3 weeks. You’re still healing. There are literally thousands of results online if you Google “3 week stall.” -
I don't get how this is possible. I'm 5 weeks post op, and I'm eating between 500-700 a day. I'm getting my Protein and Water and all that jazz. I've been at the dreaded "3 week stall" since June 5th and since then I have gained 6 pounds. What is going on???? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

In addition to the dreaded 3 week stall you may have pin pointed why the scale is showing a weight gain; you're bloated and constipated. There are many solutions to that; colace stool softener, milk of magnesia, miralax, benefiber, prune juice, a tsp of epsom salt in organic grapefruit juice to name just a few. Since you can't exercise, walk. Walk at least 30 minutes every day and drink you water/fluids. It will all get the plumbing moving. Most importantly stay off the scale. It will make you insane. Take your measurements instead. and every month take them again. Even when you are stalling if you are on program, the measurements will change when the scale doesn't.

Only 0.7 in a week?
bostongirlforever replied to sparksrn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Omg! I totally went through that at the SAME time! 3 week stall I hope it doesn't last that long for you. But...I'm 9 weeks out and it's coming off crazy fast for the past two weeks. Totally normal. That's what my doc said when I called and told him about the no weight lose situation -
It's the 3 week stall, just a reality, learn to live with it, but stay on program. Mine lasted about 8 or 9 days, I didn't lose an ounce e. Then it started up again and has been steady. But you already know about, so why are you venting. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

are you happy with the decision to have the sleeve procedure done, what has changed in your life and why you would do it again? Please rant.
sharonintx replied to sittingpretty64's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Everything already stated above is true. I didn't realize how much I relied on food. I knew I ate too much and I knew that I had an emotional attachment to food. It was where I ran for comfort.. After surgery it came to my attention that food had more control over my life than I realized. I'm only a little more than 3 weeks post op. It has been very hard to change my relationship with food and I've only just begun. The 1st 2 weeks were the worst. I had to give myself a good talking to and make myself accept that my affair with food is over. Permanently. That being said, I don't regret getting the sleeve for one minute. I'm having the dreaded 3 week stall right now. It's just ridiculous. But I know the scale will move again soon and I know that my new eating habits are in my best interest. If you do your homework and prepare yourself for the huge changes you are about to make, the sleeve is great. Just make sure your ready because there is no going back. -
Anyone having surgery on Sept 30, 2015?
mykdzmom replied to LoseItKacy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello @@hbsk and welcome. I was sleeved on 9/30 as well. If you are following your plan, just stay the course. I gained all 8 lbs I had lost on my pre-surgery diet back afrer surgery from the IV fluid in the hospital. I lost then froze (stall) for 7 days. The scale has started to move again now. Don't give up! You can search this site on stall or 3 week stall and you will find it is not common. Good luck on your journey ☺ -
I'm So Depressed! Weight Loss is So Slow!
SeahawksFan replied to sukik's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 5.5 weeks out and have lost 16 lbs since surgery. I too started at a low BMI. But I also lost 10 lbs the two weeks prior on the low carb diet. Of course I would love to be lower but I am over half way to my goal and I know it's going to be slower the closer I get. I am doing cardio and yoga 6 days a week as the doctor hasn't cleared me for weights yet. If you ever want to email or chat since we're so close on dates let me know. I also know that around 3 weeks I only lost 1 lbs that week so I was pretty bummed but I came on here and read about the 3 week stall and it made me feel sooooo much better. Happy Holiday you got this!! LA -
Not So Supportive Support Group
virgorooster posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone. I read the forum daily, but never post. After an incident last night, I felt compelled to. A little about me: I'm 34 and was sleeved on 12/16/15. My SW was 295 and CW is 271. I had my surgery through True Results. I had been depressed lately because I went through the 3 week stall. I really wanted to talk to others that knew what I was going through. So I planned on going to True Result's once a month support group meetings for guidance and support. I live with my cousin who had the lap-band 5 years ago, but it didn't work so well for her. She decided to have a sleeve revision when I had my sleeve. I asked her if she wanted to come to the support group at True Results with me and she said yes. We went and when everyone introduced themselves, I realized that I was the only person who had the sleeve. They were so anti-sleeve and found myself defending my choice all night. I heard things like "with the sleeve you gain all of your weight back after a year", "the enzymes grow back within 6 months to a year, "the sleeve is too invasive", and "the science proves that the lap band is superior". I felt vulnerable already because I feel like I'm not losing like I should, especially after my 3 week stall. They just made fun of me for whining about not losing weight fast enough. They were even rude to my cousin because she wanted the revision. I left even more discouraged than when I came in. Three of the women monopolized the discussions with any and every thing that popped into their heads. I was only able to speak during my introduction. I didn't want it to be all about me, but I didn't feel like I could get answers or just let how I felt out. We are all there for the same reason. Our surgical methods are different, but that shouldn't have mattered. Rants over. Thanks for reading. -

Thanks everybody, I hadn't heard about the 3 week stall. This makes me feel better. Whew. Just have to wait it out I guess.... Lisa -
Sounds like the famous "3 week stall"... Yes, I can see that you're not exactly 3 weeks out but you're pretty close... There are plenty of posts and articles around with information on this... I think there's one titled "Embrace the Stall" or something similar... Maybe that has some information you can use... Physical therapy may re-start things for you too...

I think just about everyone on this forum has hit the dreaded 3 week stall. It will pass. Don't get frustrated and try to keep a positive attitude. -
I agree....try not to over weigh yourself or you'll go nutty over it. Your setting in for your 3 week stall (definately a thing) so try not to panic. The losing will resume. My important rule of thumb? I never weigh myself more than one time in a day (unless I weigh first thing in the morning, then shortly after have a large BM - sorry, crude I know, but I'm stepping back on that scale if I'm certain there are ounces that I've lost in that toilet!). If I step back on the scale sooner than 1 week is up, and I see the number stuck, or <gulp> has gone up, I just don't let it register. I wait until I'm sure the weight has started dropping again. Missing the "Full" signal
sweetcheeks709 replied to christina1979's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey no problem! I just want to help you figure it out too. My surgery is tomorrow. I've seen a lot of people on here say that you don't start feeling full until you move onto purees. 2T is 1 oz, and the NUT also said take 20-30 mins to eat and then wait 30 mins after that to sip water. Maybe try slowing down? Maybe you're pushing too much through the sleeve and that's maybe why not losing as much? By no means am I any type of medical professional, I'm just trying to bounce some ideas around. You're what 9 days put now? Give your body some time to adjust, there were iv fluids and meds in your system. Plus I've seen on here the 2-3 week stall, maybe you started yours early. Have you taken measurements? Maybe that will help instead of the scale? -
Should have listened to the vets...3 week stall is real!
Coachthex32 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being a high school teacher and a football coach I thought that I had a system that would work right through any potential of a stall. Work harder = better results. Well, I'm in the middle of 3 weeks post op and I have not lost anything the last 4 days. Even gained .2 during the stall. Added more Water and Protein (still in the liquid stage) and have been increasing walking times. There are probably a 1000+ posts talking about the 3 week stall and how it happens to 98% of us. SO.... here I am dealing with a stall. But the strangest thing happened this morning, pants that did not fit at the start of the week are now almost too loose! Not losing weight during the stall, but losing inches.......just like what all the vets said.
