Messing up my pre-op diet 😩
Whosthatgirl07 replied to Whosthatgirl07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the good tips, I’m going to meal prep the rest of this week and hopefully that will make it a little easier. @liveaboard15 yeah that’s a lot of money!! I would hate to pay that and not be able to get it. Did anyone else get a really bad headache? I’m thinking I could be dehydrated. 🤷🏾♀️ -
Hi guys! I’m officially 6 weeks post VSG. When I started the Kaiser Program in June 2021 I was 330Lbs. I’m a female early 40’s. Surgery day 2/28 I weighed in at 290. Today I’m at 273lbs. I heard a lot about slow losers on this forum and I think I’m in that category but maybe you guys can confirm. I enter the regular food phase on Monday which is the day I go to work. I moderately workout 3 Times a week. Mostly in the pool because I have osteoarthritis in my knees that keep me from running, squatting or movement exercises. I eat no more than 700-800 calories currently. I get my protein, water, low carbs in. Make good food choices in my carbs & starches. if you are a slow loser how has your journey been? And did you have a lot of stalls in between? I’m trying not to get discouraged.

Messing up my pre-op diet 😩
catwoman7 replied to Whosthatgirl07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you guys are lucky. I could have 4-5 protein shakes a day, all the no-calorie, noncaffeinated liquids I wanted, a cup of tomato juice/V8 and a cup of broth, plus unlimited sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello. No solid food at all. For two weeks. I ate sugar free Jello with abandon because it was the only thing I could have that somewhat resembled real food. I'd make a batch in the morning and eat the whole darn thing that day. I never once cheated on it, but boy---it wasn't easy. It did get a little easier after about three days because my body was in ketosis by then, but still - it was a struggle. -
One week down and 6 days to go! Prior to this, I thought it was going to be much more difficult. I have been counteracting my cravings for pizza, hot wings and Indian food, with researching ideas to make the meals I crave more "bariatric sleeve friendly". I am working out recipes and ingredients, waiting for the day I can eat whole food again. I have been able to still cook meal for my kids and I find myself making healthier choices in what I serve them. I told my wife "How can we both be eating healthier and still feed the kids chicken nuggets and fries". She agreed. This transformation will not only benefit me, but the whole family! The most difficultly I am experiencing now is trying not to fart. It's never dry and I had to wash out a pair of underwear and some shorts, while in the shower. This is the "SHARD" part.

Messing up my pre-op diet 😩
liveaboard15 replied to Whosthatgirl07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dont order anything. Stick to your diet... Its just 2 weeks. I am right there with you. Today is day 5 for me for my preop diet for 2 weeks. Its been horrible but manageable. I stick to 4 protein shakes a day and in the afternoon i have a 4oz piece of sockeye salmon with 3oz of veggies. That little meal helps a ton and its super healthy. Trust me i have been tempted hard to go to chick fil a and order a few chicken sandwiches lol. But surgery is right around the corner. Cant fail. especially me having paid $18K two weeks ago for this surgery. Worst thing that happens is they get you to the operating table, Open you up and see your liver is still huge and close you right back up. the whole purpose of this diet is to shrink that liver. -
April 2022 Surgery Buddies
LarBro replied to Crinkles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello to all of the April surgery buddies. I have been looking at this forum for a few weeks now and finally decided to create an account. I had to complete a 2 week liquid only diet. The first 3 days were awful but after I was able to make it through. I had the gastric sleeve and a hiatal hernia repair on April 5th. So I am 3 days post op. I feel better today than I was day 1 post op. I've been getting in about 55 ounces of fluids (water), and 50 grams of protein (shakes) in thus far. The trick is that I have to start sipping around 6am to reach this goal by 11:00pm Currently, I'm still experiencing gas pains and I get spasms in my stomach when I drink anything cold. So everyday I'm learning something new with my new stomach. I have my first follow up appointment next week and I can't wait to move to soft foods stage. I am sooooo over the sweet taste. For those of you who are now post op, how are you holding up? Do you still feel bloated, and are you able to tolerate cold liquids? I look forward to hearing from you all soon. -

Happy Friday!!!!! I hope the april surgeries who went this week OR today are are on the mend and doing well! I am apparently going to get a CPAP as I received a call from the CPAP Home person today and she said that my doctor had just ordered it. She said she will be in contact with me regarding when it can be picked up.🤷♀️ I spoke with the Personal Nurse Advocate on Wednesday. She was nice, but didn't have anymore information at this point than I do. 🤷♀️ She and I had a good long laugh at the fact that it was quite obvious my surgery would NOT be Monday, 4/11. 🤷♀️ She told me she would put in a call to the surgeon's practice and find out what was going on. THIS is what's going on: I'm getting a CPAP machine. 🤷♀️ Oh, and I haven't heard back from the PNA yet. 🤷♀️ I am now thinking that it might be a good idea for me to look into surgery mid-June when school ends. I know I am having a hernia repair and RNY, and in light of those facts, i'm thinking that more time to recover would likely be smarter than less time. My husband agrees. Lots of shrugging in this post...🤷♀️...I did everything I could to have this happen on Monday, but it's just not to be. Time to get the house cleaned to within an inch of its life, and just wait. It's all good. Wishing everyone a restful weekend! -

Regret is normal and part of the process for many
thinblueline replied to SleeverSk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
SleeverSk That was beautiful i am impressed with you i felt a little bit like that when i had BOTH HIPS replaced i went through so much emotionally that i ( 10 yrs, in recovery for alcoholism) i sat in my recliner and ate morphine like they were candy because i didn't want to "FEEL" so i numbed my feelings for weeks and then i ran out of pain meds and all the feelings i numbed came flooding back and let me just say i was a mess the morphine was gone they were no longer delivering them to my house and i was " on the pity pot for at least 3 weeks and wanted to die because i still had no meds and no one wanted to help me aside from my wife who anyway i was able to get my shi*t together and take the meds like they were prescribed , my life got better and i got better and if you feel like you won't get better you're wrong I'm telling you, you will it's all part of the process be gentle with yourself you deserve to be happy and deserve to be loved even though you may not feel it now theyll come a day you will look back and say " all the kicking and screaming i got through it " youre stronger then you think , so keep your head up you are so worth it. Yeah it falls off really fast the first couple of weeks. Enjoy.

Like most surgeries, my first three days were rough. I did make myself start walking right away. First day wasn’t much, maybe a block or so. I slowly increased every day. I’ve always felt gentle exercise helps me with pain control, plus it’s good for prevention of post op complications like blood clots and pneumonia. By week three I was back to work full time as a nurse.

Day 4 pre op liquid diet
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to liveaboard15's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you for posting this!!! I was looking for some tried and true options. I have to do a week of pre op liquid diet and then of course post op. Every company says theirs is the best, so to hear from ladies who actually tried some and have real opinions is super helpful. -
I'm 3 1/2 weeks away from my surgery and I'm SO EXCITED!!!!! I'm not nervous at all. Is that weird? I was a little worried about the gas pain afterwards but I had my gallbladder removed in 97 and they had to inflate my stomach with gas then, too, and I didn't have any gas pain (it was mostly discomfort from the 4 lap scars). Not super excited about the large possibility of major hair shedding, but that didn't happen with any of the other surgeries I had in the past. I also have PCOS, so I'm used to my hair shedding. I have thick hair, so nobody ever notices. And I'm making sure I have plenty of moisturizer for my skin because I've been hearing the surgery can make your skin drier and itchy, and I already deal with that. I don't want it to get worse. But even with that stuff, I'm not nervous or scared. I'm excited and READY!!!!!

hello & welcome! My husband and I are getting the bypass too. We have all our clearances finished and now are just waiting on a date. I have requested for us to have surgery the same day or close to it. We are in our 50's and are empty-nesters. Our adult twins will come to help us in the first week after surgery. It's so exciting to be doing this with my husband - it's brought us closer really - having a common goal. Good luck to you both!

Question about hair loss after sleeve
summerseeker replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My scalp was real itchy too. I am just over 4 months out and am shedding lots, I am going to have it cut short next week and I am so unhappy about it but its not the end of the world. I know it will come in again as it has happened to me before at menopause and at a time of extreme stress. -
Well done, it comes off pretty quick in the weeks after surgery
-
Amazing how each doctor says different things.. My doctor said 4 to 6 weeks..

Question about hair loss after sleeve
SleeverSk replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I found my skin very dry early on, I just increased my moisturiser use. my hair started to shed heavily about the 4 month mark I think. I don't think there is anything you can do about it. I found after about 6 weeks it slowed down but I have days were more hair sheds and more seems to come out when I shampoo.I have lots of new growth that is about 2 to 3cms long at the moment so that really weird especially in my fringe. I did cut about 6 inches off my length. Overall I have lost more than half the volume of my hair but I had thick hair to start with so only those who know me well, my hairdresser and of course me noticed. I have been taking a liquid collagen supplement and using cel shampoo not sure if they have helped though -
So I’m in the part of the bariatric program where I have to lose a percentage of weight to qualify. Now that may not sound like very much but for someone who doesn’t lose weight easily at all it’s a little bit more harder for me. This is only 11 pounds, once I lose that I do a weight check in and then I get my surgery date. Once I get closer to that surgery date then I have the two week preop liquid diet. I need help and support as to how to start the weight loss going? Should I just go ahead and go into the liquid pre-op diet to lose the initial wait to get in and get my date?

At my center, the first two weeks post surgery is focused solely on fluid intake. Protein is not the focus. They said the number one reason for rehospitalization after surgery is dehydration, so they don't worry about protein intake for the first two weeks.
