  1. Hi everyone, I am almost 6 weeks post op and still struggling to keep mushy food and sometimes liquids down. I can barely keep down 1/4 cup of my mushy foods and some days I can't keep down fluids. I spoke to my doctor and he wants to do a endoscope and "stretch" my stomach a bit because he thinks that is the problem with the vomiting. I am okay with the scope, but concerned about having my stomach "stretched". Has anyone had these procedures done? And what if any results did you have afterwards? I am a bit concerned and would appreciate any feedback. Thank you. D.

    8 months out

You look amazing. I can't wait to get to that point. My surgery is next week, July 10th.
  3. It looks as though I'm suggested to go on a liquid diet for five days to shrink my pouch. I will do that. I'm done eating for the day, so I'll start the liquid diet tomorrow. I do focus on Protein first, then veggies. Rarely do I eat a third item. My snacking is what my surgeon suggested, three times a day. But that was probably a suggestion for someone who is eating way less at meals. I'm just going to go back to square one. I've almost gotten there before, but come up short. Re-dedication is what's needed it seems. You've all been a help. But WHY can I eat more than you?

    First time posting! Broth prep?

Sandy- I make "bone soup". Crazy name, but the idea is that you very slowly cook the crap out of bones lol. Seriously for like a day or two. Extracts anything and everything from the bones. So you can do chicken, beef. Anything with a bone. You use quite a few of them. It turns out extremely dense with taste. Tons of minerals and nutrients from the marrow. Search bone soup or bone broth. Good luck. As an aside- I didn't prep too much for myself- some broths/ mushroom soup. I did, however, cook an army's worth of meals for my hubby and three teens. Stock piled the freezer with almost a months worth. This was I could pop something into the oven without the need to actually cook. Or they could if I wasn't feeling well.

    Hiccups?

Thanks everyone! I've always gotten then occasionally... But it's been like almost every time I drink something cold... It's eased up a bit since I've been home from the hospital. And when I do get them I take a deep breath and hold it as long as I can and before exhaling I breathe in again. It seems to work... My nurse said if they don't go away within a week to call them... Thanks for your tips!
  6. I hate to say it but I think I am regretting my decision on having this procedure done! I was never felt sick after eating before I had this done. I am about 3 1/2 weeks out, it feels like it has been months. My surgery and recovery were uneventful so not sure what is up. I have 3 small children and I am always on the go with them I guess I just need to take a few extra minutes and prepare my meals or plan my meals out for the day.

Disappointed Seems Surgery Will Be Delayed

Ty guys for the encouragement. Ladybug I keep telling myself that it must be when God wishes me to have the band but even though in my heart i know that I cant stop feeling disappointed. I sit all the time and think to myself I will be such and such lbs smaller by my birthday etc.. And 2 or 3 weeks is alot of time i could be loosing. I know it will happen cause i am not going to give up till it does but feel sad that its not going to be as fast as i wish.
  8. I have my nutrition folder and It says full liquids for 2 weeks post op. It suggest things like Protein drinks for Breakfast and creamed Soups for lunch and dinner. However it took me 8 hours yesterday to finish about 6 oz of Protein Drink. I am sipping Gatorade and Vitamin Water too. What should my goals be??? 2 oz of protein drink? and then some Soup later? I am just not sure I am doing this right. Yesterday all day I got was 200 calories in and maybe 20 grams of protein. I am almost scared to try anything like pudding with protein, it just seems to thick in mind right now.
  9. Terrib, If this continues or you are still really worried about dehydration; you should consider calling your surgeons office. They maybe be able to prescribe an anti-emetic (anti-nausea) to help. This may require an office visit. Personally, I ended up staying in the hospital for 4 days. I had major problems with anesthesia and the IV pain meds. I was so green and heaving for the first three days there was no way that I would have been able to drink enough. I had continuous IV fluids and pills for the nausea every 2 hours. It is the worst those first few days, but it really will get better. As for when I got home, sipping warm tea helped so much. I really like The Tea from Aveda, it's a comforting tea. Herbal and very soothing with a good flavor.
  10. Ti's always good to read that things are are getting better. The first week is pretty hard, then it does go easier...

    Regret

I got sick at about the same time because I was introducing new foods..I backed off to liquids for two days then started introducing foods slowly. It does get better. I'm six weeks out tomorrow and I feel totally different.I'm sorry you're not feeling well...but hang in there!

    Frustration!

So... First of all I should conitnue blogging I think it makes a person feel better! Since no one else around me understands. Second I have made this change to my life.... and I have no damn clue how to live it! I know I am supposed to have certain portion sizes and so on, however they don't tell you what calories to stay at in order to keep losing and how many carbs to take in and how many grams of sugar. I have decided to hire a personal trainer to help aid in my weight loss journey. I meet with her today at 11:30. I hope that goes well and she provides me with some good information. I have been trying to get through to my dr. His secretary is an idiot! Why are Dr's secretaries so dumb?! I want to know what size band I had put on, well I finally find out its a standard size? Ok WTF? So here I am searching on the world wide web to find out about a standard band. GRRRRRRRR :huytsao I called the nutrionist this am to find out where I am to be with calories since I was unsucessful with the SECRETARY :rolleyes. I guess I am to be taking in 1100 calories and I am not even exercising yet. Gah I am soooooooooo scared to put any of this weight back on. I have been stayin right around 872 and bumping myself up to 1100 wow. But she says I will see faster results cause at that level I am not in starvation mode! :whoo:Thanks to her I got a little bit of helpful information. I still have strong hunger pains which is weird. I cannot wait for my first fill! I have 3 more weeks though until I get it. If any of you have any information please let me know or you can add me on yahoo: militarywif3y is my id. Missyd has been a huge help to me! And I thank her alot! This will get easier? I will learn good foods and how to continue the good lifestyle change I am hoping?
  13. I am so excited and so nervous! Have to be in Dallas by 5:30 am. I live over an hour away so that means I will be getting up very early. Please pray all goes well! I've lost 13# this last week doing the lowcarb and liquid thing. Looking forward to losing a lot more!!!

    High Anxiety

There's no pain in the surgury, you wont even know it happened. You go to sleep then wake up and thats it. After they hook you to pain meds, no prob. Just be prepared to sleep alot the first 24-36 hours. After surgery I have not had any pain..just discomfort. There are a few times I strained or moved funny and it hurt but there is nothing throbbing. I take a partial dose of the pain med each night. I'm functioning really well. Been shopping, supervised yard work with my family and even helped a little. Walking fine, sleeping fine. Was banded Tues (4 days ago). Everyone is different but if you are having Anxiety take some Zanex the week leading up...thats what I did (for other reasons).

1 Day until I have CONTROL!!

The swelling does make it hard to get the fluids down at first...that will gradually get better. But that's the most important thing the first few weeks...fluids. Don't worry about protein and other stuff...just don't get dehydrated! That can cause lots of problems that you don't want. Sip Burp, Sip, Burp....walk walk walk, nap in between. You'll do fine! Right now your sleeve is in control...it's going to do some great work for you!

    No More Diet Coke!

I was a Diet Coke addict for about 20 years! One week before surgery I just stopped cold turkey and now, 3 weeks post-op, I don't even think about it. Prior to surgery I did have headaches, but now I have none. I'm amazed-you can do it too!
  20. I just started my journey last week. I am very thankful to have found this group! I will share more later. I have set up my profile and there is a bit of information about me there. I look forward to learning, sharing and all that goes with...Blessings~Melanie:)
  21. Hi! For about the last week I have had a sharp pinching pain to the left of my belly button when I bend over or roll to either side. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what were you diagnosed with??? I am hoping it is not a hernia or flipped port. Any one have any ideas? Please help. shelli:ranger:

Hello FibroDiva, Congrats on everything going successfully. I am 1 week away from my surgery. I wouldn't be real with myself if I didn't say I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Post-Op 2 weeks and having complications

Thank you for the responses. I thought I'd stop in and give you an update. Her doctor did drain the area (he got 9 or tem huge syringes full of yellow fluid out). There was another area that was not liquified, he is planning on trying again next week. She did seem to brighten up after and was moving around a lot better after that. Mom slept in her bed for the first time a few days later, and the pressure of laying on her side made the area start leaking- ALL OVER THE PLACE! It was really disgusting and she, we both, freaked out. We called the doctor and went back in to see him the next day. He's concerned. He said if it doesn't stop leaking and look much better next week, he'll need to remove the port. He'd leave the band and tubing in- remove the port for a few months then reinsert it. The thought of more surgery scares me, but mom says shes in... She's invested this much this far... I like mom's surgeon very much. He's thoughtful and checks in on her often by phone. He's was the only surgeon willing to take on mom. She 60 years old and a revision from the intestinal bypass days of the 70's. We knew she was high risk, and she is having the complications that come along with that. I'm not however impressed with the facility he practices at. She had surgery the day of that awful storm here in St. Louis, the hospital's electricity went out for 10 hours AND the generator failed for about 15 minutes. Rain poured in around the window in her room, we had to move in the dark. It was bedlam, and our nurse did not handle it well. Very stressful. The thought of another stay there is an unpleasant one. I hesitate to name mom's surgeon, mom and I both feel he's very competent. I would hate for anyone to associate her condition with his skills in the OR or otherwise. This forum, I'm sure, is frequented by his patients and colleagues. Thanks again for your replies. Rebekah

    Emotions

Yes, I was like that after one week post op & I believe it's because I was hungry, in pain with gas, etc. Now, two weeks post op I'm not emotional because I can at least have soft foods now. Keep your head up. We have to pray for better days.
