Getting along super good. We had poster on from Pittsburgh last week but I forget his name. Bottom line, welcome to Bariatric Pal. Just heard from OSU Bariatrics yesterday (March 14th) I now have a firm 2-hour appointment with their staff psychologist April 25th. I had attended a seminar last Friday at Martha MorehousePavilion at OSU, took my son along . I'm widowed(almost 6 years) and he is my main support person and my best bud! That is program #2 for me, after a relationship dating back to August 2015, completing all prerequirements my insurance and they had given me, and thinking I was waiting on surgery scheduling, they "kicked me to the curb". The 3 surgeons had themselves a little commitee meeting and decided not to perform my surgery. My PCP surmised maybe they were scared of my age causing a death on the operating table, shoot I was 69 when I started going there, did they think I was suddenly start subtracting years? I wish deep in my heart I could sue them for breach of promise or something, the receptionist that called me back that day was apologetic in a very insincere tone. Left me feeling I was a defective person and said some hurtful things about my emotional and psychological fitness before hanging up. Told,me I should seek counselling, how can I do that when I Have Done nothing wrong? I'm sure I am well rid of them but it hurts to trust someone implicitly and find your trust is misplaced. And a Center of Excellence no less! Maybe I was naive about how the world really is. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

I’m taking the Pro Care Health Bariatric muti-vitamin with iron. It has everything that I need including 1,000 mcg of b12. Its in pill form or chewable. I take the pill form at night before bed and have no issues. The only thing it’s missing is calcium. And I will start that at my 1 month post op visit. Good luck!

Hello all! Got a question on vitamins pre op... i take 3 of the bariatric advantage multivitamins with iron a day and then I take an extra iron pill too since I am anemic. I also take a biotin barimelt too. Should I even be taking the multi vitamin preop? and do I need to stop them before surgery? I asked the surgeon... sent him an email... waiting for response. Just trying to see what others have done. My surgery is april 2nd so just a little over 2 weeks away.

New here & 1 week post-op with a bit of a freak out

I think you will find that you've set a goal that you will breeze by. Also, there is no "typical" bariatric surgery patient. Each and every person is unique with unique circumstances that have brought them to the journey. I highly recommend that you watch this YouTube video. It will show just how much weight is a very individual problem The surgery changes more than just your stomach size. It causes biochemical changes that work a little differently for each and every person. The key thing is patience and perseverance. Follow the program religiously, track your intake, and exercise. Let things happen as they're happening. 16 pounds after 1 week is a lot when you consider the average weight loss through diet and exercise alone is only 1.5 - 2 pounds a week. So you just about blasted through that average! I am new to the weight loser's bench myself and the biochemical changes that I spoke of have already started happening. I began being aware of them when I began my first few walks around the hospital. My first walk was around dinner time on the floor so there were all kinds of smells. For the first time in my life, the smells were only pleasant and did not trigger a desire to eat. I was merely content to enjoy the smells and keep moving. I noticed that I had not only lost the feeling of hunger, but for once in my life, felt very neutral about food. -
I have heard the patches are of dubious merit - not enough research yet on what you do actually absorb, or don’t. My surgeon won’t allow them for that reason. There are great chewable vitamins out there. Flinstones chewables. Or Celebrate. Look in the Bariatric Pal Store on this site - they have a great range!

It will, a lot of people complain about the thickness and have diluted it half and half. Jersey Girl is active so you by far are not the only Garden Stater.it is good you had a good experience and have a great surgeon and a decent office staff to work with. It sounds strange but we do some times have newbies coming on who have not made a relationship with a surgeon.so hearing about good Bariatrics and good, locations are cool. Please, please, please search for "stalls" on this site or generally in reference to bariatric surgery. They are common and sometimes last for weeks. You didn't gain all your weight on a daily basis and you won't lose it that way, either. Many people do recommend taking your measurements, as even when the scale isn't showing a loss, your measurements often will. But, generally, be patient and follow your program--you'll start seeing changes again once your body has caught up to the rapid changes in your lifestyle. -
Good news my friends. I received a call from OSU Bariatrics this afternoon. I have a firm 2 hour appointment with their staff psychologist Dr Kramer Wednesday April 28th. I am tearful as I write this for my dreams may not be in vain, my hopes will not be trampled underfoot. underfoot. My journey may still have A bright brilliant culmination. Has anyone had this surgery and NOT told friends or family? I got sleeved 3/8 and have told 2 best friends. They both have gotten the surgery done 3 years ago. Every time I would bring up the topic of Bariatric surgery I would get the negative comments of “thats the easy way out” and “just exercise”. I don’t wanna hear anyone’s mouth. I’m not embarrassed about the surgery at all. I just don’t have many supportive people in my family.

Was this surgery enough for you?
XYZXYZXYZ1955 replied to frust8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been assuming I'd get the abdominal "apron" removed eventually--I have plenty of rashes and so on--and I believe my insurance will cover that. Beyond that, I'd like to have my breasts lifted and filled out and have my upper arms done, but I have no idea if I'll ever actually have the money for that. I'm looking at the Bariatric Pal's Mexican hospital, though--those prices might be something I could do. Too soon to say, though. -
Yeah you're still too young for the middle age spread and besides it sounds like you are doing all the right things. Enjoy you little ones, take them for walks in the fresh air, it will do all of you good! And give them each a hug from the Bariatric Godmother ME Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

Like I told her-- at 72 --I am old as dirt. Strange though my former bariatric practice aka "the dirty dogs " did require those of all their patients. They did not require life style trainers, exercise physiologist or extensive nutrition consult which I noticed several people have had to do. It must have something to do with how they want to prepare you.l still find Bariatric Pal helpful[emoji7] I've learned things here nobody else thought to tell me. 4.5 Months – Eating Too Much?
Healthy_life2 replied to ToughButFair's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The dreaded stretched sleeve debate..lol I'm going to copy my response and keep posting it. What you are describing is normal for the sleeve. It's not "stretched" this is the progression out from surgery. The restriction is still there. After surgery your restriction is tight. The restriction will change. Surgery few oz Might get 600+ calories first few months 4 oz five months to a year 6 oz to 8 oz 1200+ calories One year out half a plate. five to ten years a full plate "Grazing" is usually the cause of weight gain. You have a new point of volume and sensation of full. If you eat high calories throughout each day . (calories can be combination of good and bad food choices) It's the same effect as if you didn't have surgery. An excess of 500 calories will cause you to gain weight. A tip that may help: Try eating every 2 to 3 hours. Protein first and eat vegetables until the point of full. The bulk and fiber of the veggies will help with hunger. I can eat 5 to 6 oz of protein with a cup and a half of chopped salad. takes a while to eat but, it keeps my weight down and I feel full. Medical professional explanation to back this up below: Dr. Matthew Weiner Published on Mar 16, 2015 "Stomach Stretching" is the term used by many weight loss (Bariatric) surgery patients to explain the changes in their appetite and food consumption after surgery. Dr. Weiner explains what's really happening and how to prevent it. -
Hello everyone. I took my first step towards bariatric surgery today and registered for the information session. I am 27 years old weigh 270 lbs my highest of 280 and I am only 5 feet tall. I live in NH and will be doing it through Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. I have been debating surgery for years now. I have a few friends who have had surgery and have never regretted it and my doctor finally recommended me tok a weight and wellness center saying that she said most likely I would be a prime candidate for surgery. Anyone have any advice, suggestions, words of wisdom, etc. For someone just starting the journey? Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Allie589 replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ugh, weight watchers. I have joined it so may times over the years, it’s embarrassing. I drove by it the other day and I happily said, out loud too, never again! My goal is a healthy relationship with foods, eating the appropriate amount of real, clean food. I hated how WW always pushed fat free cheese and artificial stuff. Saying no more to weight watchers was actually a very cathartic moment for me. My bariatric support group and this site are where it’s at for me now! No more counting points, EVER!
