  1. Same here ... I'm just at the 2 month mark and have gotten very used to my routine. I bring an Ensure Protein shake, A Greek yogurt and lately have added in a small banana for some difference. I find that and the Vitamin Water zero last me for my full shifts ... Hope it helps!!
  2. Low fat Greek yogurt with cup of blueberries: breakfast. Lunch and dinner I'll have four fish fillets (broiled) and a can of yellow or green beans. Total calories is about 800. Adding my cheats (sugar and half and half for the morning coffee) and the calories in the chewable vitamins and calcium supplements problem gets me to 900. For snacks I'll slice an apple or a pear. Still at a thousand calories, and protein runs between 80 and 90 grams.

  4. I had my surgery on 21 July and today I had my first setback. I was placed on puréed foods and I started eating my first meal of cottage cheese and yogurt today. Everything was great. My third meal of cottage cheese and protein felt weird on the way down . I had a uncomfortable pain in my center of my chest that felt like I needed a burp but I couldn't. 20 minutes later I have nowhere I puked uncontrollably for about 10 seconds and it was like fraught. Please somebody tell me I'm not the only one that have this concern or feeling
  5. well to be honest with you I was on clear liquids for the first two weeks after surgery. the third week I was on thick liquids like yougurt and sugarfree pudding. I had sugery the 1st so I am a little bit further out than you but I am almost able to finish a yougurt I usually leave maybe a ounce left in the cup. For some reason or another yogurts with fruit seem to feel me up faster. When I eat vanilla yogurt I usually finish all of it. Any way so I guess if you are doing something wrong than I am too. So good luck I really don't think that either one of us is doing anything wrong. The most important thing is to eat really slow and listen to your body when it says its full put it down.. I think your doing well though..
  6. My hubby is 36 and weighed 360 before and then 336 on surgery date. He is 3 months out and is down to 269. He works out for 30 minutes 3 to 5 times a week. He did have several weeks where he battled severe nausea so he did not eat very much during that time. I am a woman and am about 2 months out and I have lost 76 pounds but only 45 since surgery date. I work out 6 days a week and eat less than he does. Everyone is different and losing weight differently. You have lost a lot of weight. The worst thing to do is to compare yourself to others. Keep doing what you are doing. ON the Protein shake part, we only do 1 a day. It has 30 g of protein and 160 calories. It is a pre mixed shake called Premier Protein. We prefer the chocolate or vanilla flavors over the strawberry. We also have the unflavored unjury brand of Protein powder than can be mixed into food or beverages. It only has 90 calories per scoop. We pretty much eat fish every day. We get about 12 to 15g of protein with our fish per day. Greek yogurt and cheese sticks are my go to Snacks. The yogurt has about 80 calories and somewhere between 8 and 12g of protein. The cheese is 80 calories and 5g of protein. We also eat fat free turkey lunchmeat slices (the thicker cut ones). They have 25 calories per slice with 5g of protein.
  7. I have not been able to tolerate protein shakes since surgery, I couldn't even handle mixing powder in with smoothies so I totally get it. My go-to has always been string cheese. I buy huge packs of it from Costco. You can try Greek Yogurt too.
  8. Hi all, I'm a new member. Im having a problem disgesting everything except water and yogurt. How long does this usally last and when are you able to add more to your food intake. I'm hungry!
  9. So i am on week 4 of my whole lap band experience (2 weeks liquid pre-op diet, 1-week post op liquid, 1-week soft/mushies). I have lost almost 40lbs since i started and it feels great. Weight loss has slowed a little lately but i'm not too worried. What i am worried about is the amount of food i am allowed to consume while still unrestricted. When i was on liquids (post-op) i was allowed 4-6oz every 2 hours or more. Suprisingly i did just fine on that, i mean i still got hungry at times but then i just poured myself 6 oz of strained cream of chicken and ate it over the course of 20-30 minutes as directed by my post op instructions and i was good for a few hours. This week i am allowed to start having soft foods (yogurt, pudding, mashed potatoes, refried Beans, ricotta cheese, etc..) but i am only allowed 1/4-1/2 a cup of food according to my sheet. Well i have been sticking to it but 30- 40 minutes later i am hungry and my stomach is growling. Now i have been good. I never cheated once on liquids which was amazing and i pride myself on that. I feel it shows that i am ready to change my life. My problem though is that i am still hungry and i have another 90 minutes to go before i can eat. So my question to those of you that are doing this or have done it is how much do you eat? I was thinking about eating more to feel more satisfied, but last thing i want to do is to start restretching my stomach. I have been really good and i am seeing my surgeon Tuesday so i was going to ask him the same question anyways but i figured what the Hell i'll ask here too. I was even thinking about going back to my liquid diet protien shakes since they kept me fuller longer. I'm very confused and it gets a little annoying some times trying to stick to the post-op instructions. Any input is greatly appreceated.
  10. I was banded on the 8th and not really hungry. I sip on the protein shakes pretty slowly. In the morning I make a big one with protein powder, scoop of Greek yogurt, skim milk, banana, and fish oil (you can't taste it). It has 36 g of protein in it and I sip on it all morning. For lunch I have creamed soup, and later for dinner a low carb slimfast chocolate shake. I have sugar free drinks, jello, and popsicles for in between, so I haven't experienced any real hunger pains yet. I am sure that eventually this is going to get really, really old. Just glad my dr. is only making me do the liquids for 2 weeks, then on to mushy foods.

    Yogurt Melts

Yet saw on dr oz. take any kind of Greek yogurt and put in a plastic bag. Clip the corner and squeeze bite size drops on a cookie sheet. Freeze for 2 hours and then suck on them. Can put in baggies for easy snaking. I like this idea for a healthy snack for the kiddos too!

    Almost 2 Weeks Post Op

I was allowed to have milk at day 4, just depends on your doctor. You may want to make sure you tea is decaf, caffine tends to increase your hungry- I've been dealing with that myself lately. Soft/Mushy stage: thin creamed potatos (made mine with chicken broth and added a little cheese- YUM), yogurt, SF pudding, thinned oatmeal or grits, mushed up soft cooked green Beans, baiscally anything that is of the yogurt consistancy. Beware as you enter into this stage people who have seen weight loss tend to see a slight increase. Just stick to your basics and you will be fine. Right now concentrate on healing your body.

    What's your "splurge"

SPLURGE ONE: In my magic bullet -- Greek Blends Non Fat Key Lime Yogurt with 1/8 cup of frozen strawberries and a little bit of banana creme Muscle Milk. Yummy! SPLURGE TWO: Jello SF Double chocolate Temptations Mousse with a scoop of chocolate Protein powder and skim milk... YUMMMY! They are both insides the lines but feel like I'm definitely doing something out of bounds!
  14. I take Vitamins & supplements every day and don't have a problem. I do take the morning doses with a cup of coffee, the warm drink loosens the band just enough that they don't give me problems. Afternoon and evening doses I usually take with Water, but if I'm feeling tight.. I take them with hot tea or hot water & lemon. Some people do have issues and there are chewable or liquid versions of most things. At the beginning, I had trouble getting Calcium tablets down, I tried cutting them and putting in a spoonful of applesauce or yogurt.. even doing that they still hurt going down. I switched to chewables and no more pain. I'm back to whole tablets now, the Citracal Petites and it's clones work ok. You'll have to talk this over with your surgeon and see what they suggest.

    What Have You Heard?

I always mix them in with my yogurt.
  17. Just wanted to say hello and that this has been one of the most challenging things for me. At this point I'm sipping on fluids, soups in protein shakes every 15 minutes. It hurts a little sometimes a little bit more going down in my chest area. Trying to incorporate that applesauce and plain yogurt since last night. Hope all is well for everyone on this journey. 1 Week Post-op Summary

I am one week post op tomorrow. My experience is similar: 1. Walking is what got me feeling better. I can also tell that it helps with digestion. 2. I have had some constipation as well but was lucky enough to read that ahead of time so I made sure to have a stool softener on hand. 3. Burping was very bad on post op days one and two. Days 3 and 4 was gas rumbling in my stomach with was somewhat relieved with Gas X. Days 5 and 6 I have some burping and minimal gas. 4. I haven't felt full on hunger yet. I've tried to stay ahead of the curve. But that doesn't mean I still don't crave everything else. I wanted to slap my husband for eating the pizza I ordered for him and my daughter for dinner. lol 5. I am able to tolerate liquids very well and am able to keep down all meds and vitamins. I haven't thrown up. 6. I've experience sleep changes. It takes me a lot longer to fall asleep than it used to. 7. I am healing nicely but have one spot that is bigger than the rest and much sorer than the others. I have trouble sleeping on my side due to the uncomfortable way it makes me feel. I am set for my post op visit tomorrow and hope to be cleared for the next diet phase yogurt, cottage cheese, pureed foods. Sounds like you are on the up and up as well! Congrats!!!

    Tablets and capsules

I can't swallow pills for 3 months. All my vitamins are chewable or sublingual. Any capsules I open up and eat with a spoon of yogurt. Anything else would have to be crushed.
  20. Bring an empty water bottle (or dump it out in the bathroom before security) and some of the individual packets of Crystal Lite. When you're on the other side of security, tip the Crystal Lite into your water bottle and fill at a water fountain. That's what I do, I carry about six of those packets with me for any trip. Based on what I've seen from other frequent flyers, one thing that will surprise you is how LITTLE you need to eat on the plane now. I always, ALWAYS over-purchase in a panic in the airport (protein bar, drinkable yogurt, nuts, spare water) and then end up carrying it around with me the rest of the trip. It's also annoying because some airports now require you to pull snacks out of your bag during screening (they won't tell me why). More and more I've found myself just doing the water bottle/Crystal Lite and a small bag of cashews or something. If I'm on Alaska Air, I'll buy one of their in-flight cheese plates. If you're seven months out, there's little you need to worry about after landing. Before four months out things get sticky and I advise that people check a bag with things in it like protein shakes and jerky and other stage-appropriate foods. But after four months you can pretty much source anything you need onsite.
  21. I can’t take it. I can’t consume one more chemical food-like substance! Protein shakes... blah! The thought of them make me nauseous. Creamed soup? Gross, SF pudding? Why? There is no nutritional value. I’m 11 days post op. Feel fantastic! I’m getting in my water, and I can drink normally. I’m on full liquids but all I really want is plain water. I have had some Greek yogurt, but two bites and I’m full. I’m lucky to finish the single serving container in a day. Just frustrated I guess... I just want some cheese, chicken salad, and green beans, lol

    "Powerful Yogurt" brand

My flavored greek yogurt has 12-15 g Protein and under 15 carbs. I often take plain greek yogurt and add flavored Protein powder to it making it over 40g protein for only about 8 carbs.

    Dumping :-( *sighs*

All I can say is at the 3-4 week mark for me I was the same way. I lived on yogurt, cheese, crackers (not on plan but they helped my stomach) and only Nectar Chocolate Truffle protein shake. Talk with your Dr. It will pass. It is very frustrating but it is the healing process.
  24. Hello VSG Family, I am 6 days out and I restarted the full liquid today. I found a really great Greek Yogurt I enjoyed during my Pre-op diet, Fage' with the little fruit flavor contents but it has small/tiny chuncks of fruit. Any suggestions on yogurt choices I totally can't eat plain yogurt.
  25. You could add some Torani Sugar Free syrups to the plain yogurt while in this stage. I also brought vanilla greek yogurt and ate that without any issues. My NUT told me that the carb/sugar content in the Greek Yogurt is okay as sugar/carbs in dairy is different than sugar/carbs in other food items.
