  1. I've had a pair of pants hanging in my closet for years that I thought, "If I could only lose enough weight to fit into those again, I'd be so happy!" Well, I just put them on... and they're TOO BIG!! And I'm not even done losing yet!! Loving my new life and my lap-band!!!!!

    March '07 Bandsters Union

:clap2:Hi BJ, sounds like there's a good chance you'll get your fill at 6 weeks after all, that't great. DH stands for "dear husband", DW is "dear wife", NSV is non scale victory, like even though the friggin scale doesn't move, you have lost an inch off your waist (which just happened for me). Inches gone are important because as you gain muscle mass, muscle is heavier than fat so that will show up heavier on the scale, which is a good thing because muscle actually burn the most fat. There is a thread somewhere I know not where, that explains all the "lingo". For instance, I am close, but not close enough for me to "onederland", that glorious place where the scale number starts with a "1" again. And there is a group of delightful people who started an "on the road to Twoterville" thread to encourage and applaud each others victories/goal, both big and small. AMRDMR

    Taking off my fat suit

So I'm sat writing this update whilst having a coffee, with my legs crossed :-) these nsv's really are just as satisfying as the scale victories:-) Speaking of which, 12 weeks today and another 4lbs off! Wasn't expecting that this week as it was my best friend's mums funeral this week so we all had a few drinks, I stuck to low cal/carb and non fizzy but it was still alcohol, and I slackened the reins a bit on food that day too, but got straight back to it the next day and it seems that helped damage limitation :-) Incidentally, the alcohol went down fine, I took it easy and drank Water too. I'm not much of a drinker but it's nice to know if there's an occasion I do want a drink it won't be a big problem. hair loss is in full swing :-( trying not to freak out but it's not easy! I've been here before when I did a vlcd and I didn't go completely bald so I'm hoping this time I don't either! And hoping it passes quick but time will tell. Already thinking about cutting my hair off into a short bob. I wear my hair up all the time as it makes me hot if I leave it down, but as I lose weight that's less of a problem so I think by the end of the summer I'll cut it off. One thing that has happened this week is I've started catching sight of my reflection, and liking what I see :-) I've always been very aware of how big I am (was!!) but I tried to dress well and take care of my appearance, and in some ways I think that led to me have a vision of myself in my head that wasn't quite accurate, so if I saw my reflection I'd be bit shocked/disappointed/disgusted by how large I was! Now I think I've reached the point where my vision in my head matches reality, so yes I'm still big (I'm still bigger than where some people are before surgery!) but body and mind are in sync! What's going to be interesting is how that works as I lose more weight. I just can't imagine myself slim so I imagine as my reflection continues to shrink I'll get back to being surprised by what I see...but in a good way!! Loose skin is starting to show. I was resigned to that from the outset though, and plan to get surgery to fix it when the time is right. My only real concern is my calf's as the skin there is starting to appear a bit loose and that's not an area easy to fix or to his unless I live the rest of my life in trousers! @@chrisredjeep I got Biotin from Amazon, take 10,000mg a day and I do have lots of baby hairs so it's worth a try! Sounds like you are doing really well, well done! I bet your surgeon was pleased. You are doing a lot of steps! I am getting a Garmin vivofit today actually to try and encourage me to up my steps. I've signed up for my personal training to start 1 sept, I'm looking forward to it!
  6. I'm doing good..still losing (26 pounds so far). Recieved my first fill, and am pretty darn swollen from it. I'm starting to wonder if I needed that fill..but, the surgeon seemed to think so. Really annoying not being able to get things down smoothly. Ugh. I was on liquids 2 days after the fill.. Then mushies 2 days..now on day 5 (today) I was supposed to be able to eat normal...but, it feels like I'm more swollen today than right after my fill. Can't even do mushies. This happened right after surgery..was swollen worst on day 5. First NSV..I was shopping yesterday, and realized as I was pushing the cart...my pants were literally starting to fall off me! I had to hold them up as I finished my purchases! Same thing happened with stretch pants I use to workout in... Luckily I was at home! I'm so scared to buy new clothes.. When I used to buy clothes after weight loss, prior to the band...I would always seem to instantly gain it back..leaving me with new clothes that I couldn't wear. Old fears are hard to break. At some point I need to, though... Can't walk around with pants falling off! Lol!

    Nsv- Car Shopping

That's awesome! It is nice to know you can get whatever car you want w/o having to think about the size. II drove my husbands truck the other day & he said do you realize you didn't have to adjust the steering wheel? I used to move it up high like a bus to fit in and it still was tight. Now I sit fine with plenty of room. Was a nice NSV!!!

    NSV: Massage

Eeeewwww! No thank you. With my Fibro, just the idea of some one laying their hands on me and applying pressure makes me hurt. I realize that massage is wonderful of some people and helpful. It's just not for me. I guess I'll just have to keep searching for my pleasure NSV. It's out there somewhere. In the meantime, Enjoy ISG! You've certainly earned your "massage moments". Enjoy, my friend.

    3Rd Fill And Nsv

Today i went for my 3rd fill. My dr told me and i agree i am not tight enough. I hope this breaks the barly losing cycle i have been on. I also think that cause i am so scared of being to tight and being so far from my dr that I play it safe on the fills. This time we put in almost a cc. He said he felt this would start things moving. On another note I went to a scrub shop today and tried on new scrubs. I bought one pair of xl pants and top and tried on some more. I was able to get the XL on in all brands but they was a little tight still .. but wont be long till i will need those. The xxl i have are now all very lose. It has been a long time since i work XL scrubs so i am excited by it.

    My 1St Nsv

My NSV was when my boss pulled me aside and told me to go exchange my work shirts for some that fit:)

    I dropped my pants!

Perhaps a Belt? Great job! Great NSV! :]
  12. It's me-Debbydo

    I dropped my pants!

I knew when I got dressed this morning I was in trouble. I put on a suit (one of my favorites) that I haven;t worned since the middle of August and the skirt is straight and was clearly too big. Even for my 6am half awake self. So I put on a pair of black slacks size 18 with my suit jacket and went on my merry way. I'm really inbetween a 16 and a 14 and was really holding out to be a true 14 before caving in and buying clothes. Well, what a morning it took me forever to get into Manhattan today (the UN is in town) and I was running late for my appointment. I parked at a meter and proceeded to run across 1st Avenue (4-5 lanes). I almost tripped over my pants- they slid half way down my a***** as I was running. What a laugh I had. My most obvious NSV yet!!! DH and I are going shopping this weekend.

    Little Comments/Big Hurts

That really is the key...other people striving for the same thing you are and encouraging each other along the way. Friends that you can share a little NSV with, or ask for a boost because you've had a bad day. If an ache or pain is bothering you, you can compare it to others and get some advice how to handle it. Our little cyberfamily! I know my DH isn't able to appreciate the little accomplishments like ya'll do. And Lauri, you help others on here just as much. It's a two-way street - of giving and taking.
  14. Thanks, all, for letting to "think out loud" - so to speak. On a brigher note, I did have an NSV today. I pooped without Miralax for the first time in about 7 weeks. Yes!
  15. Who'sThere

    Nsv!

I had a great NSV yesterday and couldn't wait to share. I hope to post pics soon, too. (I forgot my camera, so I'll have to wait to get the pics from our cousin.) Yesterday was our cousin's daughter's seventh birthday party. It was at a place called Bounce House in Knoxville. For those who may not know, this is a place with huge inflatable slides, obstacle courses, and bouncy rooms where kids (and adults) can play. We took my 5yr. old nephew, and since he didn't know any kids there except for the birthday girl (who was spread thin among all her friends) I was who he wanted to play with. Surprisingly, I was under the weight limit (by three pounds) and was able to play on the toys with him. What's more is that I had the energy to play with him! I climbed, slid, jumped, and bounced like a kid. It was great fun and a great workout. I definitely had my heart rate up for the entire hour. Had I not lost those 61 pounds, I would not have been able to participate. I was able to keep up with the kids, and I wasn't the adult in the corner who couldn't keep up. It was awesome!

    February 2009 Exercise Challenge

Mornin' Warriors! Rowed my butt off (literally) last night - couldn't stand up properly afterward :w00t: Getting better distance and feeling stronger every day. I don't know why I didn't figure this out sooner - my body LOVES exercise! I seem to get stronger every day, the second-day soreness is manageable and dare I say, even pleasureable (because I know I worked hard), and today I had to walk extra stairs at the train station because the track my train comes in on got changed, and I bounded up the stairs like a teenager! Wonderful NSV (TMI alert) - my 'back fat' is going away! Yep, it's not a pretty sight (yet) but it's definately less ugly than before I was banded...and I can't wait until I'm in shape to wear a low-cut or backless dress! The sun is shining, it's colder than you-know-what outside, but it's still a great morning!

    New milestone reached

Woohoo!! Congrats! This is one of the biggest NSV's I am looking forward to! That and being able to put the airplane seats all the way down without bruising my darn thighs and hips!
  18. I was getting dressed today and bent down to tie my sneakers. Legs perfectly straight. Bent over and tied my shoes. Didn't squat. Didn't bend my knees. Not sitting on the bed. Just bent over. Leaned a little further. I can almost put my palms flat in the floor. Not yet. But almost. With my legs straight. Made me realize that last night when I was out, I bent over the same way to pick up the darts I dropped. It the little things in life. Happy Saturday! Sent from my iPhone using VST
  19. Thank you. I guess I should say I feel like a more involved mom. we are always hard on ourselves as mothers..we just really love our babies, no matter how "grown" they get! I think that is an awesome NSV!! Thank you! I think you're right, we as mothers are always hard on ourselves.
  20. In Jan. 2011 I stood in a winter storm in Missouri. Hidden under a little green tent with the sweet smell of flowers and tears rolling from my eyes. I buried my 46 yr old brother due to comorbitities of super morbid obessity. I promised that day I would change my life and try to help my family do the same. I was "the small one" in a family of over eaters with thyroid, hormone and a plethora of other issues that would sabatoge any attempt to lose weight, and forget maintaining! I was depressed, stressed, and hating life. Thank God for my husband, children, and best friend. I roller coastered with my weight, no permanent loss was sustained. That's the way it had been my whole life. I had a coworker tell me that she heard our insurance had changed and she thought it would cover WLS. So off I went, and in a hurry! Mar 5, 2014 was my first appt, Mar 26, I was in surgery. I had no complications as of today. A few things I learned along the way...... 1. Stick with the plan, always stick with the plan 2. Hydrate 3. Don't be scared to try new things (Tofu, Shirataki noodles, trampolines, sky diving) 4. Be prepared, even if you are just going out for a few hours, have some go to Snacks with you in case you get delayed 5. Know where you can eat out at and stay on plan, or don't go out to eat. Big one for me due to work travel 6. Celebrate NSVs 7. Smooth Moves by the case is more economical, EBay lowest price I have found 8. When you cook, cook enough for several meals and freeze in one meal containers for later (I do a lot of soups) 9. You will stall, it's inevitable, STICK WITH THE PLAN 10. Take pics and journal, as your body and mind changes you will understand 11. Realize your hair will grow back, take Biotin, find a good shampoo and conditioner, get a shorter haircut, wear a hat 12. Plan what you are going to do with the extra years you are adding to your life from losing weight and burdens associated I'm not done, but getting close to maintenance and realizing I CAN DO THIS! Attached are a few pics: my progression in pics, my WL data, and my staples

The NSVs make all the difference in the world, don't they?!

    Nsv!

Thanks everyone! I feel even better now! I did my workout and usually I'm tired after a mile around the track and I managed to do 2 miles. Because it actually felt great! Nsv's are amazing. Lol
  23. Nearly six months out and so many NSVs I recently arrived on holiday in Europe for a week of fun in the sun, unfortunately my bag decided it wanted to hang out in New York, it took two days to catch up with me. With no hot weather clothes with me I was forced to go shop for clothes in the limited resort shops but ..... clothes fitted !! I cant believe I could actually shopped easily in these shops and found stuff that fitted to get me through. 6 months ago I would have to have bought mens tshirts and sports shorts to get me through. Still love fitting into airplane seats, no one elbows me in the side because I spill into their space, the tray table comes down without resting on my stomach and the seat belts feel big !!! Over all the general feeling of happiness is amazing. Going out wearing pretty clothes and feeling good in them, strangers compliments, I am off the alcohol and just high on life, I party longer than anyone else having the best time. Waking up refreshed ready to hit it hard again the next day.
