Wow. I thought just 4 weeks of liquids (also no yogurt or pudding, just liquids) before going into soft foods was harsh. Geez Louise. So for 6 mths, no salads? luv salads. And no mashed potatoes? They're on my soft food list (even tho the PA in my office HATES any carbs, the MD suggests potatoes as one of the first soft foods we eat). Good luck! I really mean that, not to sound sarcastic or anything. I hope it doesn't sound sarcastic??? Does your dr give reasons why you have to wait 6 mths for certain items? I'm under the understanding that your staples are totally healed after 2 mths - that you should be able to tolerate any food then. At least I'm praying that I can!!!

I'm still on liquids, but this is what my surgeon's program guide has listed. We have four phases, as follows: Phase 1, liquids (no yogurt, pureed Soup, or cottage cheese - only true liquids) for one month; Phase 2, purees (no fruits or veggies or anything grain-based allowed, no pureed soup) for another month, Phase 3, soft foods (no starchy veg or anything grain-based allowed) for four months, Phase 4 - starting at six months after surgery - anything allowed in moderation as long as you meet your nutrient goals. This phase is for the rest of your life. So: -Protein bars - not until stage four (six months out) as they are considered starchy foods -Peanut Butter - stage two, purees, one month after surgery -Nuts - stage four, six months after surgery -Cooked veggies - stage three, two months after surgery, unless they are starchy veg such as potatoes, in which case stage four, six months after surgery. -Salads - stage four, six months after surgery -Sashimi - if pureed, then in stage II, one month after surgery. If not pureed, then stage three, two months after surgery.

What a cute teeny taco! I use tiny ramekins the size of my cat's food bowls for teeny lentil soup & chili (doctored with said sliced avocado, shredded cheddar and a teeny dollop of plain FF Greek yogurt). So how does your tummy do with the teeny tortilla? I still can't keep any kind of bread down. Not even a teeny bite. -
At this point, most doctors want us focused on liquids and Protein, in that order. Carbs aren't important. Of course, follow your doctor's guidance if it's different from that, but since you're asking, I suppose he or she hasn't specified. Are you tracking your protein so you know how much you're getting? I use myfitnesspal.com so that I know for sure I'm getting enough protein. Your doctor's recommendation takes precedence, of course, but most of us are being told something along the line of 60-70 grams of protein a day. I know what you mean about the menu being a bit boring at the moment I try to at least change up the flavor a bit, even if I'm stuck with regard to texture (I'm still on full liquids, so cream Soups, Protein shakes, yogurt seem to rule my day). For example, my protein-enhanced cream of chicken Soup just got a bit of a Mexican spin with a little bit of seasoning. I adjusted my vanilla Protein shake this afternoon with a little bit of SF Torani Hazelnut syrup and some coffee. Haven't decided what dinner looks like, yet, but I still need about 20 grams of protein today, so I guess it will include Protein powder of some sort... If the cottage cheese and applesauce aren't working now, maybe give them a go again in a week - some things take a little longer for our tummies to accept.

I started riding a bike at GOLDS which is my gym last week. I started out at 9 miles and am up to 12 miles a day. Thought I'd start walking 15 minutes, and ride for 45 to burn off more calories. My diet's OK. For breakfast I'm eating yogurt, drink a diet drink mid morning, and then eat a small portioned lunch. For dinner, I'm counting calories and trying smaller portions. Since surgery in Sept., I've lost around 26 pounds. Should I be losing weight faster? jp

I had my sleeve done on Fri Nov 14 and had severe reaction to anesthesia. Vomiting nausea abdominal pain weakness in walking....it was miserable. Even started to question if doing this was the right decision. Then on Sunday morning I woke up and felt a great deal better.....walked around nursing station several times, even washed up and put on my own pjs and got out of hospital gown. Going into surgery I weighed 263 and on Sun I weighed 255 than yesterday I weighed 248......seeing those results and feeling better lets me know this was the right decision. Slowly drinking protein shakes but barely eating much of anything feeling full from protein drinks and water. I make have two or three spoonfuls of yogurt ....crazy to me.

So how are we doing after the weekend? I'm still doing ok. I am still struggling with craving normal stuff. My husband cooked for our family this weekend, and the smells were very much alive for me. I wanted what they were eating. Sitting at the dinner table with my cup of broth was just brutal. Counting down the days until I see the surgeon and get the go-ahead to add some good stuff. I am very nervous as part of my knee wound from my total knee is just not healing. I added some extra Protein supplements to my am milk, just to boost my healing. But I am still not seeing a lot of progress. I have a huge history of infection, so I hope there isn't something raging under there. I will see the surgeon Tues and see what we have to do this week to get that solved. Painwise in my belly I am just fine. My issue is my knee pain. I am also finding that crushing my meds and hiding them in some yogurt is working great. The best food I found for this week...Minute Maid frozen fruit pouches. 100% fruit juice, 40 calories, and they taste awesome! -
I agree with you need to increase your calories and I would make the increase in protein even if you add a protein shake. Also I would focus on green fiber and only do the carbs that are in your dairy products not white carbs. On the protein increase use greek yogurt for more protein and if you don't like the taste, just ad a spendar. Also cottage cheese has loads of protein for the volume. If you don't eat enough you will not lose weight.

yes and I still use them when I eat yogurt! Just become I like them. I got mine at Target.

Don't worry about missing out on pie this Thanksgiving!
Luvin_Life125 replied to Kate M's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ooh thanks for sharing! I am on full liquids and will be until 12/2 which makes Thanksgiving dinner something I will cook but never taste . The yogurt might just give me a festive taste while on plan! -
So I am 12 days post-op. I lost a few pounds right after the surgery while on liquid diet. Then I was stuck when transitioned to slider foods like yogurt, soup, and oatmeal. Now I am on soft foods and started to GAIN weight . I feel like I can eat as much as I did before the band and I really have to practice my will power, which is not that great or I wouldn't have gotten banded! The tightness I felt around my stomach is gone, so I feel more comfortable than post-op, but I'm scared and disappointed . Any thoughts/experiences??

7 Weeks Out and Constantly Starving!
PdxMan replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hear what you are saying, but know the blood tests are not going to cover all of it. They are not going to be testing for magnesium, zinc or any of the other minerals. Shortages of these may still cause you body to feel nutritionally deficient. You can still follow your guidelines while eating a varied, balanced plan. Many people find what works for their new tummies and stick with it eating the same thing over and over. Greek yogurt, tuna, cottage cheese ... over and over and over and ... Yes, they are meeting their guidelines, getting their Protein in and they can tell their Dr they are compliant. All the while they say they are STARVING! All I am saying is try to find other foods that work for you which may offer more balance in the other nutritional categories. You may find you are not always hungry, as you state in your original post. I can only speak for myself. Per my Dr's suggestion, I have always eaten a varied, balanced meal plan and can honestly say, two and a half years post surgery, that I have never been "hungry" like I was pre-op. No where near. -
New to this.. 4 days post op. Will I be able to eat normal food soon?

I'd have lost my mind on liquids that long. I ate yogurt, cream of wheat, oatmeal and soup...on day 7. Day 14 ushered in an era of mashed potatoes, cottage cheese and other delights. I am so grateful my group follows the new protocol. I could not have survived the old one. -
My daughter is really struggling with getting in protein. The shakes make her gag to a point she is almost vomiting. She gags on yogurt as well. Any suggestions?

So i was told that after surgery it wasn't uncommon to have the scale read higher at my first appt because of the swelling and such, however, when i went i was twelve pounds down. Now that was five days ago and now in those five days I have only lost three pounds. I am only on the soft food part of my diet so eating about two tablespoons of greek yogurt or three ounces of Protein shake. How can I hit a plateau already?

I was sleeved on June 26 and I eat when I feel hungry, a cheese stick here, a greek yogurt there, and I try to drink as much as possible. I also like nuts, so I snack on them a couple times a day, or not, depending on the day lol. You will eventually get used to the feeling when you could use a bit to eat. I feel that,,, if I feel hungry, eat some type of protein, so thats what I do. Good luck!

My nutritionalist didn't give me any restriction on yogurt like that... I just have to eat certain kinds...Kroger's carb masters ...but this was before this came out
-
I do not like any of the Greek yogurts very much. They are just too thick and strong tasting. I finally found a way to enjoy them. I dump one fruit flavored Greek yogurt in my Ninja blender, along with a little skim milk, a sprinkling of sliced almonds and a sprinkling of oatmeal and about 1/2 cup ice. I have been able to drink the entire smoothie and enjoy it! The 12-14 grams of protein from the yogurt + protein from the skim milk and almonds gives me a nice breakfast or lunch. Yay! I have not tried to add any protein powder yet, but I may try that soon (didn't want to ruin it).

@@mommyjamie yes, measure whatever amount you are given as okay to eat. If they won't give you an amount, I would probably stick with a quarter cup max to be safe. I wasn't allowed things like cream of wheat on purees (still am not allowed even 10 mos. out) but when I was on purees it was 3 tablespoons max. Full liquids was just basically sipping constantly because my full liquids was true liquids, not stuff like yogurt, jello, or anything else you would eat with a spoon.

I never took the chewables. As long as it's the correct dose of Calcium Citrate...you're golden. Honestly? I just pop them in a glass with a little hot water or coffee and wait for them to soften a little...then I munch them up and swallow them. I get the big chalky monsters that are the size of a June bug. They have the taste and consistency of plaster of Paris going down...but meh...i'm cheap. It saves a buck and it's not so bad. I used to use a pill crusher and put the powder in sugar free Kool whip or yogurt.
-
Sure do! My doctor said I can have anything I want that doesn't require chewing. I've blended up Soups, Protein shakes, etc. Mainly I stick with fat free refried Beans with some lowfat cheese, Greek yogurt, Protein Shakes (google some recipes - there's yummy stuff out there!) and blended soups that I sometimes enhance with chicken soup flavored protein powder. Use your imagination, but stick with the protein guidelines you've been given!

When do you know that youre full?
LindafromFlorida replied to mrslosing2014's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We Barely get the hiccups now at 5 months post sleeve surgery. I will share the best advice our surgeon gave us. He said do not eat 3 meals a day. Eat only when you are hungry. He gave us no Protein, calorie, or carb diet, and said make healthy choices. I keep healthy foods in the fridge, such as salmon, boiled eggs, chicken salad, tuna salad, tossed salads, cole slaw, rotisserie chicken, and I cook vegetables. My husband eats when he wants, I eat when I want. We still snack on SF popsicles. I cook no bread or Pasta. Because of diabetes we choose to eat this way and it works for us. I eat yogurt for Breakfast only because of taking medicines. I recommend eating on saucers and getting used to it. Because once you eat what is on that saucer you do not need your body to tell you that you are full. You should be full. -
Welcome Home Tiffy! I can't remember if you left before or after my gall bladder surgery. I lost my appetite after surgery and managed to lose 6 lbs. Two more lbs and I will have lost 100. I hope you had a good time in spite of all the fried food. I've been putting unflavored Protein powder in my Greek yogurt and getting in a little extra protein that way.
